For some reason, on both my and my wife's phones, when we have RCS on, the RCS message gets received in a timely manner, but the notification can happen hours later. with SMS the notification always happens immediately. They, of course it both using the Google Messages app.
I opened the ticket with Google and got nowherem They told me to leave feedback for the developers, which I did. The Google forum didn't help either.
Any ideas? For now we're just using SMS.

Have any of you heard of this?
Yesterday my phone decides it's NOT going to send SMS through the stock messaging app. I don't get an error, it appears as though it sends, but my recipient never receives it.....most of the time. Sometimes they go thru, sometimes they don't. It seems to mostly NOT go thru.
If the SMS does NOT go through, I can never see it in Google Voice.
If I use the Google Voice SMS app on my phone, recipient receives 100% of their SMS, same with Web interface.
If I disable my Google Voice account via the web and sign out via my phone, my recipient receives 100% of their SMS using the stock app.
I have all the settings nailed. Google Voice is set to sync, background data enabled, etc.... It was, has been working flawlessly up until yesterday with nothing on the phone changing.
I have wiped, reflashed, tried different ROMs, etc....
Today I called Sprint, they re-provisioned things, then basically said since it's a third party app they can't help. I want to beat my head against a wall here.
Anyone have any idea of what the problem could be?
I can't offer any help but I can tell you I saw the exact same problem all day on the 16th and 17th. I've since switched the Google Voice app to use it's own notifications and turned off the text notifications. For the time being, I'm not even using the stock messaging app.
I remember Sprint having an SMS problem a few months ago one afternoon, but it wasn't specific to GV. Maybe something in their GV integration system is a little wacky right now. People said they got about half of the messages I was sending before I switched to the GV app full time.
Good to know I'm not the only one. Looks like a couple of other people have the same problem over in the Google help forums. I de-integrated my account for almost two days, I'm getting ready to re-integrate it now, we shall see what happens. The support for these phones is god awful. If this doesn't resolve it I'm driving to the nearest corporate store and returning it through their window.
LOL! I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, but if you do decide to "return" it, you may want to attach a brick or something. This phone feels way to light to do any damage without a little extra help.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Here's a little update. Not really a good one, but whatever...
All of the text messages I had tried to send though the stock messaging app must have made it to Sprint at least because they all just dumped en mass upon their intended recipients. I got a pile of very confused responses.
Maybe the issue has been resolved. I'll switch my settings back and experiment a little.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
That didn't happen to me, but it does appear that my texts are going through. There's one person who says she never gets some, but I can see they're sycning to GV now, where they weren't before. Everyone else is getting my texts too. I have no idea what happened but I'm a little at ease knowing someone else had the problem. I hope it never happens again, I rely on SMS for my business.
Might be a slow work day, so I'm hoping I can get rid of some the little bugs that have been bothering me....
1. Sometimes I will receive the same text message multiple times, up to about 10 but it's usually only one or two duplicates. This can happen over a period of about 20 minutes.
2. Messages get delivered several hours later or only after a reboot. There is not usually any indication that the sms failed to deliver. I sent a text yesterday to my brother, and it seemed to go out fine with no error message. After rebooting my phone today, I shortly thereafter received a confused text asking what I was talking about. The text I thought I had sent yesterday now appeared in our conversation with a timestamp of when I restarted my phone.
3. The stock messaging app doesn't give me any notifications at all. Obviously, that's not acceptable, so I'm stuck using a 3rd party sms app (handcent). Don't know if this is related, but I use Google Voice for my voicemail and that also doesn't give me notifications (have my voicemails sent to my gmail account as a workaround on that). If I open the apps my voicemails and texts are there, just no notification from the phone.
I know at least the first two issues could be an issue with the carrier (at&t), but I had none of these problems with an iphone prior to switching or when using the mediocre AT&T Messages app on this phone.
I was hoping these problems would magically disappear after rooting and installing a new ROM (viperXL), but that hasn't been the case.
Thanks for any help!
There are a lot of reports of missing voicemail notifications on Nexus 5. I think I've read them all on this forum & some others including CyanogenMod threads about the Nexus 5. My specific problem:
On my Nexus 5, Voicemail SMS messages are being received from my carrier (O2 Ireland), appearing properly as unread SMS in my default messaging application (Handcent).
Every time they do, there is no notification icon in the drawer and no notification tone.
In my attempts to fix the problem:
I had this problem on stock KitKat when the phone was new with the 4.4.2 release, up through the 4.4.4 OTA upgrade, and continued to have the problem after installing CyanogenMod 11 with both the M10 and M11 releases.
I have disabled notifications in both Google Hangouts and the default SMS app ("Messaging").
Switching between Handcent and Messaging as my SMS app has no effect on the problem.
Using Google Hangouts as my SMS app is not an option for me, and Google Voice won't work with my phone number which is outside North America.
I have tried setting "Reminders" for unread SMS in Handcent, but it does not send reminders for notifications that never happen in the first place.
My current workaround, which is a poor one especially because it relies on keeping the phone display active all the time, is to use the Handcent Widget on my home screen which always displays the number of unread messages. At least this way I can see when the Voicemail text arrives, with an unread message count on the Handcent icon.
I am hoping to find any of the following:
Why the phone software (Android and/or its applications) gets the voicemail SMS but suppresses the notification
An APK or Market application that I can use to work around the problem
A software patch for this problem, or even a different ROM that has the problem fixed
One thing I have not tried is eradicating Hangouts from the phone. I wanted to start this thread first to see if there's a better way. If there's no suggested alternative, I'll try this and then post the result.
removed Google Hangouts, still nothing
More information: I have removed all the updates relating to Google Hangouts, rolled it back to the factory version, and removed the APK. Testing it at every step showed no change to the voice mail problem. So Google Hangouts may not be "stealing" the notifications but it doesn't mean the phone isn't hard-wired to deliver them to Hangouts or Google Voice.
I am following up with my carrier on this thread to see if there is a way of fixing this problem at the service level; it can be found by searching the O2 Ireland Community Forums for Nexus 5: no voicemail SMS notification (I can't post the link here).
Also, I am surprised not to have had a response at all from the community here. I have always believed xda-developers was a resource for developers at any level, even those like me who are at the first stage of trying to learn how the phone works. Even a tip about how phone notifications are delivered, and what might be getting in the way of them here, would be a help.
Handcent no voicemail notifications on Nexus 5
Problem was eventually solved by installing Chomp SMS. After seeing the same problem on both Handcent and the stock messaging app I had decided it wasn't likely to be an application problem: in hindsight, that was wrong. Nexus 5 appears different than other phones in that each incoming SMS from the Voicemail number replaces the last one. That tends to make the messaging app not issue a notification... but Chomp SMS must work differently since it isn't subject to that problem.
While still on Handcent I found the workaround of deleting the Voicemail message thread or last & only Voicemail SMS after every Voicemail notification. That forced the next one to be treated as "new" and triggered a notification every time. Today I wouldn't wish that workaround on anyone but the Handcent developers.
BTW in last few months of experimentation SlimKat has turned out to be a better choice for the Nexus 5 than CyanogenMod.
This has happened twice now. The first time I thought it was a fluke, now a second time in two days I am getting concerned. I am using Google Messenger for SMS/MMS. The problem is that somebody sends me a text message and I reply to their message. My reply goes to a completely different person and the original sender never receives my reply. These are not group messages, just a single SMS.
Anybody else having this issue? I will have to switch back to my Nexus 6 if this keeps happening.
Known bug. Use Hangouts for SMS until it's fixed.
I got a text from amazon that my packaged was shipped at it showed coming from my brother. I too am using messenger. I don't like hangouts...
Yep same here, it's broken. I would say use Textra for a similar feel to messenger. Hangouts is broken too, but in a different way. It will send photos sideways if you use the paper clip in a message thread. If you use the share function in gallery it will send it fine.
I have been using Google Messenger since it came out on two other devices and have never experienced this issue until using it on the S6. I have found if I clear the app data for Messenger messages show up from the correct sender temporarily. WTF?
I came here to post something similar. I set up my dad's S6 the other day, and today he told me that if he goes into the Contacts app, selects a contact, and hits the text icon, it picks the wrong contact to send to. I tried this on numerous contacts, and it happens on all of them. If he adds them manually to a message through the Messenger app, this doesn't happen. Bizarre bug. Any ideas?
Happened again yesterday. A coworker sent me a text and it showed up from a completely different person. Guess I have to back to hangouts for now ugh...
Recurring Problem
I highly doubt the problem will be fixed soon. This bug has been blatant in all Samsung products I have had since 2007; however, it happens somewhat seldom and slightly random and the only idea I have for reproduction is:
Receive a message from person A
Read message from person A
Receive message from person B.
Open message from person B while still in the thread with person A's SMS.
reply to person B.
Watch as person A reads your reply to person B and person B never gets anything.
I'm not sure if this always reproduces it, but when I saw this happen AGAIN with my new S6 I was instantly reminded of my past with Samsung products - even prior to Android.
Same Issue--- Almost 2018 Now
I use a fully updated LG RIsio (low grade phone I know), and and the latest version of FB Messenger app for SMS. Several times in the past few months I have constructed a text for a recipient, with the intended recipients name on display as a write, hit send, and suddenly the completed text is sent to a seemingly random contact in my phone, and the deed is done.
This is insane. How do I stop this. I am gripped with the fear of something incriminating going to a family member or a coworker or manager. Why am I not hearing more about this in 2017? Most of the posts on it are from 2010. Did it never get fixed? Did it come back?
Please advise. This is the kind of oversight that can potentially ruin lives and merit a class action lawsuit.
For some reason I am not receiving all text messages . Random texts will not show up on my phone even though they show sent on the other person's phone. Getting frustrating bc I have missed some important texts. I googled the problem and it there was an article from 2 days ago about the issue without a fix available. FYI I am on the TMobile Galaxy S8+ ....anyone else experience this issue? Anyone know of a fix?
i doubt its the phone its probably a bug on your account from tmo
We need to get this to thread going. It's a big discussion topic on Reddit and articles are showing up on Android sites.
I'm with Telus in Canada. I've been using the Android Messages app. I have no idea how many texts I'm not getting but there's one friend who's asked me a couple of times if I got their text and I've said no. I've seen screenshots from them that show the texts they sent. That person actually uses an S7 with default Samsung Messages app.
There's another case today where my kid's school sends messages to parents via both text and email. I always get their messages twice. Once via text, the other via email. Today I only got an email message, so clearly it's not just texts from one person not getting through.
Just received some texts from two days ago. Not all texts, but the last few that never showed up. Maybe something is getting fixed?
As of yesterday I still have been missing some texts daily
Did you recently switch from iPhone? Sometimes iMessage messes up senders that use an iphone, and you wont get it.
On the flipside, though, there does seem to be an issue with texting anyways, or MMS. Like the videos look like ****, or, I have even seen messages that delayed WEEKS come through. For example, my wife uses Handcent, I use Samsung Message app. Over a month ago, my brother in law sent her a pic of our dog, which she forwarded to me...but I didn't get it until a month later, when she accidentally opened the stock messages app, instead of the Handcent app she usually uses. Then, I got all the damn replies a month late from the related group messaging.
This was happening to me weeks ago so is nothing new. Unsure why it's suddenly become such a worldwide issue in the last few days.
I've tried every SMS app going as well as the stock one and it doesn't matter which I use. The messages still didn't arrive.
My S8+ was bought factory unlocked in the UK and it's on the 3 network.
This definitely exists. I have narrowed my issue to long text messages that would be split into 2 or more. I have since switched to the Android Messaging app and no longer have the issue..... I would try it...
My issue existed with the native Samsung Messenger app.
