Hello there, I'm using a2 with mi 10...no such problem but when I clean recent apps, watch disconnect, but after few seconds it's connected again.. I was previously with fossil gen 5 and it was terrible experience, after few hours connection broke and it was impossible to connect again, but I can receive notifications, nothing else, here is different situation, everything it's almost ok. This is because aggressive ram management in miui...
Find everything with Bluetooth in battery optimization and mark don't optimise.. Its work for now.

[Q] Disastrous experience with Gear 2 paired to a non-Samsung phone?

Hi all!
When I bought my Gear 2 Neo to use with my HTC One M8, I knew it was not officially supported, but I read some encouraging posts here on XDA, so I decided to give it a go. So far, my overall experience has been completely dreadful:
Battery Life! When I saw 30% per hour drain on my Gear 2 (with not too much of "display on" time), I thought I've got a defective device. However, things came immediately back to normal when I disconnected the Gear from the phone. Did anyone else have such experience? Solved, issue with the specific custom ROM.
Using in conjunction with Bluetooth earpiece is a complete nonsense. I don't want to receive calls on the Gear when I have the earpiece connected to the phone. But guess what, you can't have them connected at the same time! WTF?
Where are the apps? All pre- and post-release materials suggested Gear 2 comes with plenty of useful apps, but where are they? I'm particularly interested in Runtastic, but, according to their Facebook page, their Gear 2-compatible app hasn't been released yet, and no ETA so far. Runtastic claims Samsung didn't ask if their app was available before putting its name on the press release. WTF?
No alarm functionality on the watch itself without a need in the phone, and non-Samsung phone alarm doesn't get propagated to the Gear.
I'd really appreciate if other Samsung and non-Samsung phone users could share their experiences with regards to the areas above.
Thanks!

Wow that's a lot. Let's see if I can come up with some answers..
1. I hear that battery drain is a known bug when connected to the HTC one. Not sure why it happens but it's been reported for mostly that device.
2. I'm pretty sure in order to use the Bluetooth earpiece with the Gear you need to connect the gear to your phone, go into Settings on your Gear 2, Go into Bluetooth, and connect it there so instead of having both attached to the phone, you have it Phone>Gear>Bluetooth (IE NOT Bluetooth>Phone<Gear|)
3. Samsung Apps store is not available on NON Samsung devices.
4. This is true and many people are looking for a fix. Nothing can be changed right now.

Strange indeed. Could be related to the Sense flavour of BT stack. I have a spare Google device (Galaxy Nexus), will try the Gear with it to see if the battery drain issue is cured.

According to the process described here, the audio device needs to be paired with the phone and not the Gear, while the Gear is somehow able to make the phone switch between the phone audio coming through it to the earpiece. There is also this video describing how it works from the user perspective.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work this way with my HTC One M8. It looks like it uses ONLY the "Phone Audio" profile while connected to the Gear, which effectively disables any other device relying on the same profile (e.g. the earpiece) to connect to the phone. If, nevertheless, you force the phone to connect to the earpiece, the Gear gets disconnected. I suspect, on Samsung devices, a different BT protocol (probably BLE) is used for communicating to the Gear, so it can stay connected to the phone while the "Phone Audio" is taken by another device. This could also explain the power drain above, as BLE is supposed to be much more energy efficient. The question is, of course, how to make HTC One to use it (BLE is obviously supported by the device).
It is possible to connect my earpiece to the Gear, but only as media device (my earpiece supports this profile as well). In that case it can be used for listening to music played on the Gear. But it doesn't help in the phone call scenario. In any case, the "transfer to earpiece" operation described in both tutorials (you can see the corresponding icon on the right side of the Gear screen in the video above) is not available, no matter if the earpiece is paired to the phone or paired/connected to the Gear directly (the icon is greyed out).
Again, I'll try to put a custom BLE-enabled ROM on my Galaxy Nexus (standard ROMs don't enable BLE on that device, despite the fact the hardware is present) to see if it behaves any differently.

This is true, but there are good people around who can make them available for outsiders like us... The problem is Runtastic app for Gear 2 or Fit (not to be confused with Gear 1) is not available yet, according to Runtastic themselves, and no ETA so far. This is despite Samsung press releases. Had I known this before buying my Gear, I would have given it second thought...

This is particularly annoying. What I really don't understand is why any other app notifications do get to the Gear, but alarms (even from 3rd party apps) don't. I'm completely baffled by that!

THX,that's encouraging to hear. :good:
One thing I've noticed w/my M8 & GEAR FIT:
If I'm not using the FIT (leave @ home etc...., out of range), the battery life takes a little bit of a hit. Otherwise, yesterday for example, battery life was stellar, still @ 50% after 18 hrs of total phone on-time.
Apparently, the FIT MANAGER app cannot be force closed, only disabled, so, I'll just do that when not using the FIT.
As for the GEAR MANAGER (for GEAR/GEAR2/NEO) it can be force closed.
So,I'm remaining optimistic regarding battery life once my GEAR2 arrives, especially since such is a YMMV, not only w/this discussion, but battery life in general.

I was quite surprised and satisfied with it as well!
I downloaded the sdk and was able to view the log of the gear and I can see there are a lot of errors for s health and other samsung services so if official support comes through from samsung, id imagine battery life will get better.
OK, reading all the replies, it is apparent nobody else has the same kind of dreadful battery life. So it must be the custom M8 ROM I'm using (Insert Coin). I'm going to reflash a different one (will try Android Revolution HD, as this one is supposed to be as close as possible to stock) and see how it behaves.
I did try flashing a BLE-supporting ROM to my old Galaxy Nexus, but it couldn't connect to the Gear. The Gear Manager was stuck forever while attempting to connect.
OK, with Android Revolution HD 5.0 for HTC One M8 the battery life is MUCH better, I think it'll stretch to 2-3 days the way it's going now. So one annoyance is solved.
However, the others are still pending resolution. The one I'm particularly annoyed by is the issue with Bluetooth earpiece. I just can't use the Gear if I have to answer the phone on it or on the phone, as I've been using Bluetooth earpieces for the last 12 years (since they appeared on the market more or less) and don't see myself changing it just because of this Gear stupidity. I'm investigating possible solutions (e.g. using Tasker or similar apps). Will post results here.
Another update, just found what seems to be a perfect way around the Bluetooth earpiece problem. A combination of Tasker and Secure Settings allows me to switch from Gear to my earpiece on incoming or outgoing call and then back to Gear when the call is finished. Seems to be working very smoothly! At least now I can wear the Gear throughout my workday and handle phone calls normally.
Looking for resolving other outstanding issues, the next most pressing one is alarm notifications.
Hoping to get working Runtastic when the company releases the app.
Last, having all these health functions (sleep tracker/pedometer/HR) and not being able to use them on the phone is pretty annoying. Hoping to get S Health eventually working on non-Samsung phones...

So does anyone have a doc'd process and prerequisites on how to make these two devices even work. I have seen countless youtube videos with people walking through what the thing does and even paired to a htc one m8. I have done all the side loading of the APK's etc. Staging stuff where they suggested and so on. Still coming up with it not working. There is some magic that I am missing some where.
so far I have done:
Installed the Stubpak.apk one by one. Then installed Gear Manager, The phone see's that gear2 then pops up a Parsing Error and goes into the gear manager app pairing screen for ever. Nothing happens after that.
If anyone can shed some light that would be great.
Thanks in Advance.
how do you do it?

Hmm I thought your "solution" was a different custom ROM? Even if I sync an account with few (10) contacts it's the same issue for me...
dlog_system only shows Power Manager messages all day e.g.

Gear S3 constantly overheating

Just picked up my Gear s3 Frontier and it is going into a overheating/cool down mode frequently. Is anyone else having any issues like this?
I don't have any 3rd party apps. I notice it even just playing with settings but especially while making calls and things of that nature.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
i Would bring it back

Just picked up? Was it charging? I only noticed once or twice the watch getting hot when i left it on the charger after it is fully charged. Never saw cool down mode tho.
Mine just warms up a bit when charging.
Sorry...by picked up I mean purchased.
It wasn't directly after purchase. I got it at a T-Mobile store not that they are network specific. I was using it for a call because my phone had died and it was on LTE/standalone. It kept dropping the call and went into powersave mode. After a minute it would change back into the standard mode and say that the device had cooled down.
I rebooted it this morning and used it on standalone for about half of the day and it didn't go into this overheat prevention mode but I also didn't make any calls. I just wondered if this was a known issue. When it happened, it kept happening everything I used it again even after 10 minutes or so had passed.
Thanks!
It's happened to mine a few times but definitely not frequently. The funny thing is that it's happened while the watch was just sitting on my wrist with no apps in use. I've only noticed it because it vibrates as if a call is coming in only for me to see that it's overheated. It doesn't feel physically warm when it happens so I guess that's a good thing.

I've never been able to overheat my S3. And I live in a hot climate (ie. 81 today). And I routinely have long phone conversations in standalone mode. The watch has never gotten more than slightly warm.

My interim solution for Samsung Gear S3 Overheating
Hi,
I had the same overheating issue too.
But I am using an interim solution personally to get my Gear S3 Frontier to full charge.
When I want to charge my Gear S3 Frontier, I turned my Gear S3 to airplane mode.
In 3 occassions, I can get to 100% charge without getting the overheating notification.
However, in one occassion, when it gets to 100%, the overheating notification does pop up.
Note: I am still observing this method. Would be glad to hear from you if this method works, assuming you choose to use this.
My explanation:
If you are charging your Gear S3 while you are moving around, your Gear S3 is continuously scanning for your phone, and also receiving signal via GPS, Bluetooth & WiFi. So it is still doing a lot of work in the background.
Why airplane mode:
Turns off all tranceiving & receiving of signals. Minimize the stress to the Gear S3.
Logically, when you are charging your Gear S3, you will not be using it, right? So, no harm turning to Airplane mode temporarily. A bit troublesome, but for me, it solves the problem of not getting to 100% charge.
On the other hand, I do believe the overheating notification serves as a signal to the Gear S3, to stop the charging process due to whatever reasons. It might be a safety feature.
Just my personal opinion.
Thanks.
From, Ronald

Time to change device!!

After nearly 2 years I have had enough and will change.
The whole time I had the watch with Huawei P9 > Nokia 8 > Honor View 10 > P30 Pro there have been issues with the bluetooth constantly disconnecting and removing from trusted device unlock.
To happen with all these phones is clearly something wrong with how it connects to Android / bluetooth stack.
I love the watch so put up with constantly going into Wear app and "reconnecting" but now the battery is draining at an insane amount.
At the start I could manage 2 days without charge, now I am charging it before sleep and waking up with 23% left.
you know i guess there might be something wrong with your device because my hw2 always stays connected to my phone and in the past year I have only noticed one or two times of disconnection, and i wear it at least 8 hrs a day.
It most be your watch
I agree with Kianush, must a problem with your watch. I have a Huawei Watch 2 Classic and I've never had those issues. I do charge before going to sleep, but even doing sleep monitoring in the morning I have usually 75% and it lasts thru the day.
As I say battery was very good until recently so maybe it is on it's way out.
The bluetooth has always had disconnection issues for me at random points in the day.
Also seems it can't handle other BT devices connecting to the phone - i.e. earphones or car head unit will make it disconnect and then it will not reconnect and I need to go into Wear app on phone and reconnect which of course means Smart Lock needs to be added again.

I had always the problem of it disconnecting randomly as well (and I changed a bunch of phones in the meanwhile as well). But, after all, it is still good looking
I bought a fossil gen 5 the other week and I sent it back... It was slightly faster (I recently installed on the HW2 the janjan ROM+KERNEL) but, I couldn't stand how it was looking with a part of the screen that actually was bazel (at least the HW2 fake a big crown ) So, waiting for next-gen or I'll buy a Ticwatch pro LTE that has 1gb of ram as well (processor wise, won't change anything in term of speed) but it has a bigger full screen

Yes, I like the watch very much but the disconnection issue is just annoying, somedays it never disconnects and other days its every 10 minutes even under the same circumstances.
I decided to try Galaxy Active 2 for now, doesn't look like Huawei will make a HW3 with Wear anytime soon.

Yes, I am also slightly nervous about Tizen but watched a Youtube video of Tizen vs Wear vs Android on several devices and it seems to be very similar in use + I found an app that synchronises data to Google Fit.
However I do use several Android apps on my HW2 such as Keep Notes and Fotmob, plus I like the media controls so I will need to fully test this with my P30 Pro before deciding to keep the Active 2.
So I have had the Galaxy Watch Active 2 for a week now and all I can saw is WOW.
This feels like huge upgrade from Huawei Watch 2 in nearly all areas.
The watch itself feels premium, feels more like a real watch on the arm.
The colours are bright and vivid, the speed the watch operates at puts Wear OS to shame, the speaker is great and so many more options with sound and notifications and pretty much everything.
My initial concern was about the lack of Wear OS store and while I do not have Outlook or Fotmob apps everything works., the main app I miss is Google Keep Notes.
I can control my music on my P30 Pro, I can respond to messages in Whatsapp or SMS with voice or type.
Ok it has Bixby instead of Google Assistant but I never used it and I can achieve some similar results such as "set alarm" etc.
It is the first time I tried a non Wear OS watch and I am pretty surprised by it and can't see how Wear can catch up, it is just too slow and dull in comparison.
Plus it has wireless charging and you can backup the watch ready for if you need to wipe or transfer to new phone.
I loved my HW2 for a long time but now GA2 is the new king (although nothing still has the UV sensor I had on my MS Band 2)
Does anyone have any other idea's about what to upgrade to? I'm not a fan of Tizan, but do we wait for the never appearing Pixel watch? Has anyone else updated since this thread started? If so, what to and how is it?
Apart from Fossil there were no real options hence my semi forced move to Samsung.
I like it and it performs much better but I miss some apps like Keep Notes.
And Bixby is useless.

I have a mi 10 Ultra on AT&T in the US, ask me anything

5g low band works. I'm in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I get about 55mbps which doesn't sound fast but it's massively faster than I get with LTE personally.
Camera is incredible. I went to the zoo yesterday and have tons of high quality animal pictures. In good lighting, up to 10x zoom doesn't look like zoom at all. One thing I've noticed is it doesn't seem like the camera glass has a good oleophobic coating on it, super fingerprint magnet.
The included case has a small 1mm or so lip to protect the camera but it's not much. It's a good case but not great. Keep in mind this and the screen protector are supposedly antimicrobial too.
A lot of bloat, easy to uninstall the majority and you can use the xiaomi adb tool to disable (wouldn't recommend uninstall) the rest. A little difficult to work around some of the software limitations but I've got it almost completely how I want it now. I've never had a xiaomi before.
Feel free to ask any questions.

Hi there, great to see another US user. I am on Cricket, which is the same thing as ATT, basically. I was wondering two things:
1. Do you have a noticeable lag in getting notifications? Meaning, do your notifications all show up after opening the actual app you are expecting notifications from? This is a problem for me on mail apps and Messenger, for example.
2. Can you send MMS images through the stock messages app or Google Messages? I cannot get images to send no matter what setting I go into within the settings. I might have to open a new thread on this issue.
Thanks.

No notification problems other than when I have battery saver on, seems to disable all kinds of sync so you only get emails by opening Gmail and forcing a refresh for example. I've never had battery saver be that aggressive on another phone, but it's not a huge issue for me. Notifications work fine otherwise.
No issues with google messages either. When I get home and can type better/longer messages than on my phone, maybe we should compare settings and see if we can find what's causing that.
Just a wild guess but you don't have this enabled do you? Maybe this causes an issue when it's incorrectly detecting your sleep schedule?

No notification problems other than when I have battery saver on, seems to disable all kinds of sync so you only get emails by opening Gmail and forcing a refresh for example. I've never had battery saver be that aggressive on another phone, but it's not a huge issue for me. Notifications work fine otherwise.

I see. That means I would have to turn off power saving mode? I was trying to save battery on everything else while getting my notifications in a timely manner. I've had a Mate 10 Pro before this and I thought that was aggressive.
It's alright. I've messed with it all morning and all I did was reinstall and allow all permissions again. It works now. Turns out the other party didn't turn on data on their iPhone.

Perhaps. but I'll look for this and keep an eye on it. Thanks, I didn't know this existed.
Just got the phone and using on T-Mobile. Noticed I'm not getting any notifications even though I've set Gmail to sync, permissions on, no restrictions whatsoever as I can see. What's going on.

Do you have battery saver on? What about that sleep mode thing in the screen shot above?

Both battery saver and sleep mode are toggled off.

Oh I bet I know. Try going into each app's settings page and turn notifications on if they're off, and if they're on, change the notification priority to high.
It's annoying but once you do it on apps you shouldn't have to do it again. I have no idea why it's setting some apps to not have notifications by default or setting them as low priority so they can't pop up or make any sounds.

I've toggled them off and then on again and it seems to be working now. I will report back if I'm still having problems. Thanks
How are the notifications? I had a mi mix 3 and had nothing but hell trying to make them work, I now own a oppo find x2 Pro and again I'm having issues (Chinese version) so am looking at moving this on if there is no Rom flashing available soon and was waiting for a oneplus 8t but this new MI 10 ultra excites me, I just can't have yet another phone with notification issues.
Thanks

Seems like I still have the same notifications issues as I did with my S20 Ultra. Sometimes I get the notifications on my lock screen and sometimes I have to turn the phone on for them to popup and appear. I learned to live with it on my Samsung so I guess I'm okay with it.
While I'm here I highly recommend not ever enabling super battery saver. All it does is keep you from opening most apps and when you turn it off you have to reconfigure a lot of things on your phone, especially if you use any Google services. Not worth the trouble. Regular battery saver should help enough.

Yes, you just have to download miui hidden settings, go to apps, show system apps, then open the launcher app settings and change it there.
Personally can't wait for a custom ROM on this phone
After getting up and started using the phone. I noticed the phone behave likes it was on 60hz even though it's set to 120. Had to do a reboot to get it to act normal again. Anybody else notice this too?

Didnt even realise until today i couldnt change the default SMS either, so no launcher or SMS other than default, its like a bloody iphone this LOL
I assume these can still be changed in MIUI on the note 10 Ultra?
Can it be unlocked and a global flashed? (Not had a xaiomi for a few years)

I assume you mean Mi 10 Ultra?
Haven't run into any default apps that can't be changed yet. Some require a little work like the launcher but that's it. It can be unlocked after a waiting period of something like 15 days, no global ROM yet but there is a xiaomi.eu custom ROM and you can be sure more custom ROMs are coming.

Note 20 ultra Smart view and another problem

Ive received my note 20 ultra around 2 days ago and successfully rooted it with magisk. Now before i rooted it and maybe even after, smart view and samsung dex was working. Now it just connects and disconnects. Ive tried resetting network setting and adding a code to the build prop nothing is working, hopefully somebody can help me out. Also another problem is when ever i turn on my phone after i fully powered it off it says [PDP] Back up files detected. What does this mean??
I'm assuming you checked the functionality of the device before rooting for a few days?
Smart view sucks with this phone. I sometimes get flawless functionality, sometimes it can't even find devices it's paired with before.

Yeah i guess but the thing is i had a oneplus 6t before this and it was working perfect, does this phone have just the normal screen cast by any chance?
For anybody facing the same issue all you have to do is add wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable to your build props reboot and your good to go
