Just picked up my Gear s3 Frontier and it is going into a overheating/cool down mode frequently. Is anyone else having any issues like this?
I don't have any 3rd party apps. I notice it even just playing with settings but especially while making calls and things of that nature.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
i Would bring it back

Just picked up? Was it charging? I only noticed once or twice the watch getting hot when i left it on the charger after it is fully charged. Never saw cool down mode tho.
Mine just warms up a bit when charging.
Sorry...by picked up I mean purchased.
It wasn't directly after purchase. I got it at a T-Mobile store not that they are network specific. I was using it for a call because my phone had died and it was on LTE/standalone. It kept dropping the call and went into powersave mode. After a minute it would change back into the standard mode and say that the device had cooled down.
I rebooted it this morning and used it on standalone for about half of the day and it didn't go into this overheat prevention mode but I also didn't make any calls. I just wondered if this was a known issue. When it happened, it kept happening everything I used it again even after 10 minutes or so had passed.
Thanks!
It's happened to mine a few times but definitely not frequently. The funny thing is that it's happened while the watch was just sitting on my wrist with no apps in use. I've only noticed it because it vibrates as if a call is coming in only for me to see that it's overheated. It doesn't feel physically warm when it happens so I guess that's a good thing.

I've never been able to overheat my S3. And I live in a hot climate (ie. 81 today). And I routinely have long phone conversations in standalone mode. The watch has never gotten more than slightly warm.
Mine has a issue where every time I connect Bluetooth or just have it on it gets really hot and "cools down" won't stop until Bluetooth is off. Samsung gear s3 at&t

Where did you change these backup settings, on the watch?
My interim solution for Samsung Gear S3 Overheating
Hi,
I had the same overheating issue too.
But I am using an interim solution personally to get my Gear S3 Frontier to full charge.
When I want to charge my Gear S3 Frontier, I turned my Gear S3 to airplane mode.
In 3 occassions, I can get to 100% charge without getting the overheating notification.
However, in one occassion, when it gets to 100%, the overheating notification does pop up.
Note: I am still observing this method. Would be glad to hear from you if this method works, assuming you choose to use this.
My explanation:
If you are charging your Gear S3 while you are moving around, your Gear S3 is continuously scanning for your phone, and also receiving signal via GPS, Bluetooth & WiFi. So it is still doing a lot of work in the background.
Why airplane mode:
Turns off all tranceiving & receiving of signals. Minimize the stress to the Gear S3.
Logically, when you are charging your Gear S3, you will not be using it, right? So, no harm turning to Airplane mode temporarily. A bit troublesome, but for me, it solves the problem of not getting to 100% charge.
On the other hand, I do believe the overheating notification serves as a signal to the Gear S3, to stop the charging process due to whatever reasons. It might be a safety feature.
Just my personal opinion.
Thanks.
From, Ronald

I just bought Samsung Skyrocket phone from ATT, initially after about 20 mins of video or voice chat phone was getting really heat up at the back by the camera. I exchanged the device but still the same issue. Is this just how Skyrocket works or is there a setting which can be changed? It is getting heat up than normal phone
Mines been fine. The only tome it'll her hot is if I'm playing gta + charging the phone.
Or if I'm talking + charging; and even then its after like 5 minutes of use

They get warm under constant use. Make sure your battery is seated well. If it causes issues with the phone exchange it again, otherwise I think it is normal for these phones.
Any phone will get warm (not hot) with prolonged use. My inebriated girlfriend kept me on the phone for 2.5 hours last night. I wouldn't say it was ever more than "warm." By no means uncomfortable.
Same problem. After 15 mins of talk time i wouldn't be able to hold the phone close to my ears. I don't two devices can be wrong, its probably something wrong with the manufacturing of Skyrocket. I am very disappointed and returning this back unless someone here has a trick to reduce that heating? Thanks
Try charging and running GPS at the same time, and you can cook your hand. I was guiding my wife yesterday trying to find car dealers and with the phone plugged into a car charger + running GPS, I had to set it down because it was getting too hot to hold.
Doesn't seem much different from any other phone I've used GPS extensively on, other than it got to those temps a lot faster than most. I mostly figured that was related to the fact that it's such a thin device.
If I use navigation while I'm driving, it gets more than warm.
If I charge it while navigating, it definitely gets really hot. I believe it may even overheat and the GPS turns itself off temporarily for a minute.
It gets warm during phone conversations.
Other than that, it stays cool doing anything else like playing a video for even hours.

Hmmm...then really whats the point in having this phone when other phones do not have this pbm
have not had any issues with the phone, only been warm when tethering via hotspot
Mine gets pretty toasty when charging and talking and using GPS, but I've got a case on it as well (which probably isn't great for the battery) but I don't notice the heat as much because of the case.
Check your actual battery temperature and see what it is when it is warm and post the results here
Mine gets warm if it's sitting in my pocket in an area w/ spotty connection. Needless to say, my battery also drains very rapidly when this happens, too.
dumb question..how do i check?
Mine gets heated under extensive use...I used wifi and slacker for 3 he's and if was warm.
rocketed to da sky using mah brain and mah thumbs...
I tried the following:
i) rooted the phone
ii) removed all att apps
iii)disabled 4g
Used for 15 mins to make a call, still same issue it gets rediculously hot. I can say for sure it is definitely gets hot than a normal phone.
Wanted to give ONE last try, exchanged the phone at att store and this phone also had same issue. I gave up and returned the phone. I might get a S-2.
I would just wait...at this point there are at least 3-6 new devices coming out and the sr and s2 will be old news

I got a new skyrocket from AT&T and have exactly same issue - when I try to use GPS and talk on the phone while driving, it gets really hot.
Exchanged 2nd time Yesterday & if it continues, need to get something else -- surprisingly all the sales guys in the att store say that they haven't heard this problem :-(
I hear you guys complain about it but I no have teh issue

See the problem is, because of the nature of smartphones, and that android is actually a linux os, many problems people face are'nt actually hardware problems. They are problems caused by installed apps and settings the user themself had done. Dumbphones, blackberrys and iPhones lock off this functionality, which is y I don't consider them a computer in ur hand, android is. That being said it is both a blessing and curse, this flexibility we have

Just wondering if anyone else has a similar issue - every so often it will just decide to reset, and get into the unpaired mode. On the phone I have to un-pair, and re-pair the device.
It happened to me only once. I think it is a memory issue. If it gets more than it can handle, it resets itself but this is just a wild guess.

I am observing this too, not very often though. I do lose BT connectivity sometimes, however, which is fixed by switching BT off and on again in the watch settings.
Happend to be me once too but was not such a big deal had to restart it and then wait untill the apps got back to the watch.
But might be that the watch runs out of RAM as thearif suggested.
So what would be the best way of resolving this - have less apps installed on the watch?

I have a hunch that this may happen when the watch has been out of Bluetooth range of the phone too many times. I have had this happen unpairing happen on several occasions, usually when I have gone up- and downstairs a few times without my phone, or if I leave my phone in my office at work and go to pick up print-outs....
For me this happens even when the watch lays next to the phone. It doing it few times daily. Goes off and then back on. It doesnt loose pairing or connectivity, well... only few times i have had to reboot the watch to get it ON (or turned off the Bt from the phone).

I have this problem few times also. It happen often when I change or modify watchface on Sony app editor.
Maybe I am just crazy but I swear, probably 10+ times a day I feel a single vibration from the T-Mobile Gear S2 that has no notification tied to it or anything I can tell that should be a reason for it to vibrate.
I turned off automatic heart rate checking.
Anyone else feeling like they're crazy?

Yeah this happened to me a few times this week. You're not going crazy. Really odd though...
When you lose connection with your phone's bluetooth it does a single vibration. That could be what you're experiencing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_vibration_syndrome
That could be it too loll
Next time it happens, check the back of the watch to see if the heartbeat sensor is on. It happened to me today and it made me wonder if it vibrates when it tries to take your pulse and can't get a reading.

I get it once an hour ornso, but it's the activity reminder telling me to get moving. Could be that.

Same here it is the connection dropping, you can switch it off in the settings, silly should show something
When your connection drops it will vibrate and once again when it connects, when you reach 25% 50% 75% 100% of your step goal it will vibrate.
This could be some of the instances you are noticing.
Hello, I have the AT&T Gear S2 SM-R730A with the recent update that just came out yesterday. Anyways, i have been using it at work and I have to leave my phone in my locker so the watch isnt connected via Bluetooth. It will last only 5 hours this way and this is with a few texts and emails and no calls. I tried shutting Bluetooth off and still same drain. I also shut off gps still same. Wifi has never been on and neither has NFC so its not that. Any suggestions?

Something after the update killed my battery overnight (less than 4hrs). I decided to quickly do a hard reset before going to work in an attempt to figure out the issue. Additionally, it’s overheating on both chargers I have. I removed a few apps & watch faces I haven’t used since buying the watch. Battery life is back on par. I’ll probably attempt another hard reset this evening & not rush it.

Im packing this piece of garbage up and selling it. I had for a week and the battery life is horrible.
Another HD reset and better selection of notifications cleared the battery drain and over heating.
I shouldn't have to deal with all this for the price you pay for a watch. I'm paid for it out right I've only had it for 4 days I'm taking it back and buying the LG Google watch
Short Version
Ok guys, I know I'm not alone on this and I can't find anything on it so I decided to start this thread. I believe the most recent TMobile update that occurred 09/2017 for the Samsung Galaxy s7 has either broken my Bluetooth or is causing some process to lock up and continuously use the CPU once I connect my Gear s3 to my Galaxy s7 or disconnect my Gear s3 from my Galaxy s7. The symptoms are the inability to smoothly stream music via Bluetooth, increased battery drain on the phone because now I can only make it about halfway through my workday vs more than a full day like it used to be and an unresponsive phone most noticeable during the time shortly after connecting or disconnect from my Gear s3. I've had my Gear s3 now for roughly two months and this hasn't been an issue up until this last week of 09/2017. The only thing that has changed was I did a TMobile software update within the past week or so.
Long Version
As I mentioned up above I've had my Gear s3 Frontier was for roughly a couple of months now and everything worked perfectly when connecting and disconnecting from my phone most of the time. The few times I've had an issue it was with the Gear s3 battery draining faster than usual and that was able to be addressed with a restarting of the Gear s3. However I'm having connectivity issues with my Gear s3 and my Galaxy s7. The Galaxy s7 seems to be struggling to disconnect and reconnect to my Gear s3 because the streaming of my music starts to skip and pauses for periods at a time and I can't get the screen on my phone to come on during that time because the phone is working overtime doing something behind the scenes for a minute or two. Even once the phone becomes responsive again, the music continues to periodically skip and the battery on the phone is draining much faster than normal. When I'm at work I stream music all day and occasionally turn on the screen of my phone to check a message that I may not be able to fully see on my Gear s3 so outside of that the screen on the Galaxy s7 remains off. I typically work 10-11 a day while streaming music via Bluetooth the entire time from my sd card via Play music. By the end of my workday, I typically have 27% to 35% of battery left on my Galaxy s7 and this is what I'm used to. What's weird is that prior to me streaming music when I connect my Gear s3 to my Galaxy s7, everything appears to be ok, but once I start streaming music and then I get too far from my Galaxy s7 causing the two devices to disconnect via Bluetooth then connect remotely and reconnect via Bluetooth upon coming back within range of my Galaxy s7 that's when all my problems start. Since today is a non-workday for me, I plan to do a little bit of further testing and see if I can determine what exactly is causing the battery drain. I used to be really savvy at this troubleshooting stuff when I had nothing but time on my hands to install apk that could monitor things but not anymore. So if you guys have any recommendations for diagnostic/monitoring tools that don't require root then please let me know.
The quick fix:
My fix to this so far is to turn off Bluetooth on my Gear s3 so that my watch is forced to connect remotely and only then do my Galaxy s7 symptoms go away. I've already ruled out the portable speaker as the culprit because the same issue exists whether I'm streaming music to my portable speaker or streaming music in my car. I figure since the phone seems to be the one that's causing all the headache then it must be the phone.
