Unbricked my phone, now what ? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I apologize in advance because i'm not a native english speaker and i'm also not tech savvy at all so it will probably be painful to help me.
My OnePlus 6 hard-bricked today and I had to do the MsmDownloadtool thing in this thread because my phone wouldn't work again. Screen was black, even when plugged the LED wouldn't light on and my PC was identifying my phone as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008".
So I did everything to get it back on, it worked and now I'm stuck with android 8 and OOS 5.1.5. I'd like to be able to update both android and OxygenOS automatically and not manually (which I wasn't able to do even though I followed the upgrade to latest Oxygen OS by using full signed zip thread). If someone could help me or point me to a tutorial I can follow or something It will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

So I does not find updates when you tell it to update? I do not have much experience with msmdownload, but I had good experiences with flashable zips of official roms.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/oneplus-6-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3792244
Read the instructions carefully. I would recommend to start with your current 5.1.5 and let it update itself. You should not try to skip versions.
Edit: On second thought, maybe you could get away with getting a OOS 9.0.0 upgrade package and install it through updater up? This will definitely save you some time, but I am not sure it is the safest approach.

It does find the update that I manually put on the root of the phone, but when I launch it it tells me the update has failed.
I'd love if it updated itself but it doesn't for some reason. When it checks for update I only see the current version.
I hope I didn't mess up the unbrick :/

I Guess you should flash 9.0.9 before turn on A10.

Ok I will try this. Thanks.
Edit: Just to be clear, flashing an OS means you put the zip files in the root and manually update for the phone, right ?

Maybe this version is so old they do not expect people to be upgrading form that.
That link that I sent you. Go there, get an incremental upgrade package from 5.1.5 to 5.1.11 and install it with the updater app
Here is a link to that package
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903980707
Then get this android 9 upgrade package (or find it yourself) and flash that through the updater app.
http://oxygenos.oneplus.net.s3.amaz...2_OTA_005_all_1808301533_d0d4304454bf4157.zip
It should update automatically after that.
I would not recommend skipping android versions. It may be fine, but it might cause problems

[GUIDE] Debranding to C432 and updating to B361 (Nougat) for EVA-L09

Like many people here, I was eager to get onto Android 7 but the issue I faced was the fact that I got a branded phone and a long wait till I officially get the Android 7 update. Looking through this forum I was very put off on manually updating it to Android 7 with so many threads about bricked phones. However, the urge to get onto Android 7 was too great so ultimately, I decided to do my research and just do it. I am not new to flashing and custom roms but I am new to Huawei but I had confidence that I will recover if I do brick my new P9. In the end (after a few bricks and a couple of mild heart attacks), I got there and to get there, I needed to grab information from multiple threads. So I have decided to put together this guide so people have a singular guide to debrand and get onto Android 7. Below are steps and threads I took to debrand my C34 to C432 and update it to B361.
What listed below is what I did to get onto Android 7, this may or may not work for you so use this guide at your own risk.
Using this Guide - Please read through this guide BEFORE attempting it. There is a lot of large files to download so I recommend that you download everything you need before you make a start and a fast and reliable internet is strongly recommended.
Prep Work
- Backup all your data because your phone will get wiped.
- Make sure you have the stock recovery already flashed and make sure your phone is not rooted (may not be necessary but this was the state my phone was in).
- Get yourself a bootloader code from Huawei. Go to http://www.emui.com/en/plugin/hwdownload/download, you will need to create a Huawei ID if you haven't already done so. Click on the Unlock Bootloader link and fill out the form, you should get a bootloader code almost instantly after submitting the form.
- Download and install HiSuite (http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/index.html).
- Download the SRK Tool from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66737472&postcount=2
Now lets make a start.
1. Download and flash the dload-huawei-p9-eval09-eva-b136.zip from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/stock-rom-dload-file-p9-eva-l09-b136-t3382818. Instructions on how to flash this is in the first post. After flashing, you should be on the L09C900B136 firmware. NOTE: If it boots up to a white screen asking you to enter password, reboot into recovery by holding volume up when you powering up your phone, do a wipe partition and factory reset. You may need to reboot your phone a number times before the phone boots up correctly.
2. After flashing and booting into the L09C900B136 firmware, you will need to unlock your bootloader and install TWRP. You can use the SRK Tool to do this, please have a look at this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66737472&postcount=2) and watch the video on how to do this. NOTE: You only need to unlock bootloader and install the TWRP recovery.
3. After your phone has been unlocked with TWRP recovery installed, download oeminfo-huawei-p9-eval09-c432.zip from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/c432-oeminfo-flash-twrp-t3384903 and flash it via TWRP. To get into TWRP, power off your phone and go into recovery by powering up your phone while holding volume up.
4. Once you flashed the oeminfo file via TWRP, power off your phone and repeat step 1. So you need to flash the dload-huawei-p9-eval09-eva-b136.zip file again via the dload method (power on the phone while holding volume up and volume down). NOTE: When you flash this firmware again, it will lock your bootloader (Fastboot will tell you that the phone is unlocked but I assure you, your bootloader is locked) and restore to stock recovery.
5. Once your phone has booted back up, go into the phone settings and you should see that your phone is now on the EVA-L09C432B136 firmware. To test that the firmware is working as intended, go into the phone settings and go into Updater, updater should pick up the B182 firmware and you should be able to update it to B182 without an issue.
UPDATE: A number of people has reported that they are getting the B166 update instead of B182, if this happes, do a wipe partition and a factory reset after updating to B166. When you get back in, you should be able to update to B182 via Updater in the Settings menu. If this method does not work, you can manually update to B182 by following the steps here: http://www.carbontesla.com/2016/11/download-huawei-p9-b182-marshmallow-update-europe/
6. After your phone has rebooted and you are on the B182 firmware, you need to now update the firmware to B361 via Huawei Updater 2.0 using this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70594380&postcount=2.
After all that is done, you should now have a debranded UK C432 P9 running EMUI 5.0.
Special thanks to @paulobrien, @somboons and @KrAzYtHeBoY for their guide, tools, files and video to make this update possible.
Props to you sir. I will try this when I get back. I don't have any doubts now after reading this guide.
Does debranding will affect warranty of the device? Mine is quite new.

Its very likely that debranding will void your warranty since you will need to unlock the bootloader and flash a firmware that is not the same as your original model.

Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the guide. I've recently been battling away trying to go from C34 to C636 - still never got to the bottom of it.
Is that a typo in your post for your original model number - C43? Or did you come from Optus AU C34?
Either way - have you had any network issues in Australia with the new firmware?
Cheers.

Yep, its a typo, thanks for pointing it out. I have no issues what so ever, everything works perfectly fine and there has been no drop in cellular reception, wifi reception, GPS accuracy and etc. Apart from the build saying L09C432, you wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

Legend. Appreciate the reply - it was tough to find experienced Aussies on the same starting build/carrier.
Now I just wish I hadn't wasted the time going for the Asia Pacific variant!
Will get stuck into it this evening.
Thanks!
Great guide! Reading through it seems easier for it to be managed through hisuite/windows but I have a big issue. For some reason my computer won't recognize my phone! I installed the beta and am on build number EMUI-A168-L09C900B040SP11-log and since doing this stupid move I have been unable to connect to a computer nor install other builds or rollbacks directly on the device so I just feel like smashing it and claiming the insurance. Is there any advise that could be offered to maybe force a firmware upgrade?

Ha I don't have a clue how I ended up with that build but I've regretted my decision to install a beta version of the nougat every day since. I will try this method this afternoon and see how I go!

I cant promise you that the guide I put together will work for you. If its a Nougat beta firmware then you would be technically doing a rollback to MM. Just a bit of a warning, a lot of people who try to roll back to MM, usually encounter problems, annoying problems. Unfortunately, I dont have much experience with this phone or how Huawei does things so I cant help you much. If I am in your shoes, I wouldn't attempt to debrand and flash Nougat using this guide.

I got theme and icon on mine but it may have came through when I flash B361. I went from a full factory reset on B136 to B182 to B361, not once did I stop to check to make sure all of the apps are installed, I only started setting up my phone and have a browse once I was on EMUI 5.0. It may be un-necessary to flash B166 if flashing B361 give you themes and icons.
If someone could double check on this when following this guide and report in, that would be great. I am not willing to test it out by rolling back to mushmellow.

Are you on an unbranded device?
If so, the official Huawei support page offers a rollback package if you updated to the Nougat beta.
Make sure you go to the page specific to your country.

Broken themes/icons seem to be caused by missing assets in the /CUST/ partition. I managed to get around it on my broken C900 firmware by separately flashing the /hw/normal/ package specific to the build. These can be found in the filelist.xml in the [WAREHOUSE] post - but you need to change the URL manually to grab the file.
SmartPhonesFan said:
So B361 will? Didn't know that.. Didn't want to risk it it took ages to download.. I had 3 folders in B136 but I flashed it via dial pad options.. Not 3btn..maybe if I would flash via 3btn it will give it back then and I wouldn't need B166..
Cannot be bothered.. It's done now..
Nougat best..

It makes no difference if you use the 3 button method or via the dial menu, both does exactly the same thing. I am only assuming that Themes could be installed when I flashed B361, I was not paying attention to the apps that was installed but I think this may be the case because I believe the Theme app was updated for EMUI 5.0, again all assumptions here.
Can I jump directly from b136 to b361?
Thanks in advance.

Try wiping partition and a factory rest and see if you get the B182 update. If not, you can download the B182 update and flash it via dload but if that does not work, you can try doing it via the Hisuite and Updater method.

Oreo update not coming?

InoHello everyone.
It has been a long time since my last post....
I bought my HTC U11 128GB/6GB last August and I find it awesome. Since the announcement of the Oreo update being rolled out, I became impatient to try it. I checked and checked for updates... but nothing. Right now it's running Android 7.1.1, SW version 1.27.400.21, with the October 2017 security patch.
How can I find if there are other updates that I didn't receive? How can I find my model number? How can I force the updates?
Info: My phone is already unlocked (it's the first thing that I did after receiving it).
Edit: with Simple CID Getter I found out that my CID is HTC__060. Is it the DUGL/India model? If yes then I guess that the Oreo update didn't arrive yet?
Thank you in advance to anyone that can help me.

I just did a backup. Downloading the first files to upgrade from 1.27.400.21 to 2.31.400.6 now. Do I have to flash all the files? OTA, recovery, boot and firmware? Or only the OTA zip is enough?
Edit:
I tried to install the OTA Zip with TWRP and it gives me an error message. I think I will wait until the official OTA arrives (hoping it doesn't take too long).
The wwe version has only just been updated so you'll probably get the update in a month or so once the carrier is happy with the release. My advice is to wait. Do not root and s-off for it.

You can try to connect through the VPN that allows to select server located in India.
Had exactly same problem as OP.
Solution with VPN worked for me. And phone updated to Software version 2.42.400.3

Downloaded the first time with VPN, tried to install it, but it didn't work (I had TWRP, and after reboot I got the message that the update was corrupted). I flashed the recovery from the Google Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...EYtQ_tRcOSJ0vWcvk8a7TK8Hk/edit#gid=2137120377
using:
Code:
adb reboot download
and then:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_1.27.400.21.img
I checked for updates and it asked me to download it again, no VPN needed. Downloaded it and tried to install it (much faster). Phone restarted, update started, and after a few seconds I saw a black screen with a red triangle.. it looks the same as when it's in recovery mode.... Had to restart the phone again.
I'm trying again to download it and I'll check better if I can see the error.
Edit: It goes fast from 1% to 24%, then it stops at 24% for about 19 seconds and then black screen with red triangle...
Any idea what the problem could be?

Sorry, don't think I can be of any help here. Have almost no experience with this sort of things.
In my case I did not do any tweaking with the original OS.
First tried to explore any possible option to get it "official" way.
My only guess would be to try to roll back to the original state and to have no trace of tweaking.

Yes, I will try to do a factory reset this weekend. If it's not working, I will try to follow the instructions on the other post to flash a RUU.
Edit: I did a factory reset, tried to update to Oreo, it still stopped at 24%. I flashed the latest RUU I could find on the spreadsheet, and then after 2 updates I'm finally on Oreo!!!

Downloading it now. I will be really interested to see if they managed to address the stand-by bug that was causing excess drain and upgrade the modem firmware to improve connectivity. Those are the two main remaining issues with this phone. Hopefully they also implemented a method to force applications into full-screen, but I'm not holding my breath on it.

Already disappointed on the modem firmware front. No upgrade there. Also, no ability to force full-screen. Going to pass judgement on stand-by bug after 48 hour or so, unless obviously an issue.
The fact that it was not released to beta first makes me think it may just be an official release of the beta

I sure as hell hope not because the deep-sleep issue is horrible. You lose an average of 1.5-2h of actual SoT and the drain is regularly >1% per hour in stand-by.
I just keep getting an installation error, now I have a permanent notification telling me that the installation failed.

you are probably on Rooted device, or activate usb debug mode. Try to unroot if you are

I am on 8.1b1 rooted. I flashed the stock 8.1b1 boot img to remove root. Then tried to sideload the 8.1 official OTA zip, and I get this:
E: Package is for source build essential/mata/mata:8.1.0/OPM1.180104.010/144:user/release-keys but expected essential/mata/mata:8.1.0/OPM1.180104.010/144:user/test-keys

Not sure what else I can try short of the full flashable build image once Essential posts it to their website.

I was in the same boat as you. I was on 8.1B1 rooted so I fastboot flashed the boot.img, then rebooted , downloaded the OTA which wouldn't install.
Went back to boot-loader, flashed the boot.img to both slots, rebooted, took OTA, and it still won't work. I get "couldn't update installation problem"
I didn't have an issue getting the last OTA, the same way.
I dunno
Edit: Mine just did a factory data reset on boot up. I think I'll be able to install the OTA now.....

Yea..not looking to start over.
The OTA I downloaded was off the reddit announcement thread. I'm assuming that guy pulled it off the device. Essential said they were going to post "sideloading files" also. So, I'm hoping that those are somehow different. (Otherwise why wouldn't they just throw a link up there)
Wonder if Essential pushed it since Pixel is now offering pre release of Android P?
My radio has noticeably improved, instead of VZW its finally showing Verizon wireless. And the new developer options are nice

My install wasn't working either at first (same boat as you guys, Magisk rooted with custom kernel). At first I just did a Magisk uninstall and reboot but it wouldn't install. Thought maybe I still had a custom recovery installed, but there was no TWRP in recovery. So, I just did a sideload install of the 8.1 beta using adb and then rebooted. That put me back on stock 8.1b1 and retained all my settings/data. Then I made sure my settings were correct in developer options (USB debugging, etc.), and it's finally installing. Not sure, maybe I just didn't hold my mouth right the first couple times, but it's working now.
Can anyone tell me if stable has multitouch issues that were on beta?
Rooted 7.1.1 took the update just fine, lost root and twrp
Looking at META_INF\com\android\metadata, it's expecting essential/mata/mata:8.1.0/OPM1.180104.010/144:user/release-keys but, based on the text at the top of the screen when sideloading, the device is at ssential/mata/mata:8.1.0/OPM1.180104.010/144:user/test-keys. Changing it is pointless, since META_INF\MANIFEST.MF contains a SHA-256 hash of of the metadata file. I'm going to try recomputing the hash and updating the OTA zip.
Edit: Didn't work. But has someone on reddit confirm Jank4AUs situation.

Hydrogen os to OOS

Hello guys, i bought my oneplus 7 pro from china and it comes with hydrogen os and i am trying to get rid of it.
I already tried to download the official package from OnePlus website and i tried to flash it using the recovery but it gives a pop up saying that i can't downgrade.
could anyone suggest me a good way to switch to oxygen os ??
Thanks in advance!!
Probably it's because they listed a lower version there.
Head to https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/oneplus-7-pro-global-repo-oxygen-os-t3930585
Download the latest zip and use the local upgrade method.

Use fastboot mode : https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-pro-t3931424
Will definitely work
convert it with the international firmware converter

Usually flashing the stock zip via the systems updater should work but i guess if it doesn't then download the fastboot version and try.

If you're on a newer version of hydrogen, you need to unlock bootloader to go to a lower version. Dont forget. But might be better to wait for the next update of OSS and then flash internally. To be safe. Im rather new with oneplus too

i already unlocked the bootloader, but i don't want to risk everything so i will just wait for the newer update.
I have a follow up question. I might be wrong at any step so please correct me if I am.
From what I remember, during first boot of android people are supposed to log into their google account. So if I end up flashing OOS by local update option, will they ask me to log into my google account? I'm still in China and I don't know if I can actually skip that step and keep using my phone (log into google accounts later on after I connect to my VPN).
I don't want to risk changing OS and not being able to use my phone until I leave China.

So far I did not install OOS. My H2OS is too fresh and I still need to wait a bit for new OOS updates. However I'm getting 2nd one for my grandfather tomorrow and I'll check how it goes then.
Yes, I'm in TJ.

Need help rolling back/unrooting my phone

I rooted my phone last week because I wanted to use substratum to theme my notifications. Since then, I've run into a bunch of frustrating problems.
Current Model: OnePlus 7 Pro 12GB version, build xXx_NoLimits_7.7 on OOS 9.5.11-GM21AB
Problems:
Phone used to be 9.5.11-GM21AA but now it's 9.5.11-GM21AB - does this affect anything?
Substratum hasn't worked in stock+root, and 2 different ROMs I've tried
Favourite app of mine doesn't work properly and I think it's because I'm on build 9.5.11 and not 9.5.10
How I messed it up: Started by rooting and trying to install Renovate ICE Rom, installed the wrong file which converted me to 9.5.5-GM21AB. Then I updated to 9.5.11 but it remained AB. I tried several times to unroot, roll back and get to 9.5.10AA but it always kept itself at 9.5.11AB. Sometimes my wifi would break. I currently have xXx NoLimits Rom installed.
Desired outcome: I want to unroot and roll back to 9.5.10-GM21AA stock
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks, that was super easy. MSM automatically rolled back my phone to 9.5.3.GM21AA.
I have one more question - if I want to update it to 9.5.10GM21AA, how would I do that? If I update through the system, it will take me to 9.5.11, which I do not want. If the process is easier if I'm rooted, I already did that. To top it off, my substratum is working now after I reset my phone to how it is now. All I need is to update it to 9.5.10 and I would be sooooooo happy .
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply! I thought as much. Can you clarify if these steps are right?
Go to https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=294300
Download the one I want (9.5.10AA)
Move the file to my phone's internal storage
Update via Local Upgrade
Is this correct? Will I still have root after I do this?

You will unrooted after the upgrade as itll flash completely stock.
Just re-roof after it and your good to go!
Hey @virtyx I copied the exact zip file I downloaded into my root directory for Local Upgrade but it wasn't recognized. I then tried to just flash the zip through TWRP but it said it was an "Invalid zip file format".
Do you know what I'm doing wrong?

For my purposes, 9.5.9 and 9.5.10 are good. 9.5.11 reverted something with the brightness and so I don't want to use it.
I found a zip from the OP site for 9.5.9 so I was able to update to that one and since I got root/substratum to work without issue, I'm happy to stay at this build. In my eyes, my phone is absolutely perfect now and I am extremely happy. The only thing I would change is the size but that has nothing to do with the software/OS. Thanks for everybody's help!

I don't blame you, 9511 isn't as smooth as 9510.
also noticed 9510 had better battery life.
I might roll back myself
