Hello XDA community hope you're all doing well! I recently installed an after market double din deck which is android 9 pie by witson. I decided to update the firmware to a 10 after booting everything on screen is stretched or not even fully showing instead everything looks cropped. I am not sure what to do. The OEM is unlocked. I was wondering if any one of you guys may know what I can do to resolve this issue would be very much appreciate it! Thanks for your time
First, that's not Android 9 Pie. That's Oreo 8.1.0. And I'd be willing to bet that any update to that unit is going to STILL be 8.1.0. Was the update you applied one supplied from Witson directly, or a custom build of some kind?
What is the MCU type, are you sure this is a MTCD/E?
Take the time to read the forums.

Hi all,
I'm in the process of upgrading from 7.1.1 to 8.0. But before I do so I'd like to know if there is a way back.
Reason: currently 7.1.1 seems to be incompatible with my car media (disconnects repeatedly). I have the hope that 8.0 heals this. But if not, I must go back to the older version to have something to discuss with the manufacturer of the car because they do not (yet) support 8.0.
Thank you all very much
Thomas
Yes you can go back you just need to flash a 7.1.1 firmware/rom
Thank you very much for this answer, Chris.
But when I do this, I probably lose all my data and apps and have to reinstall that stuff again, right? And, do I have to root the phone?
Thanks again

You will lose all but you don't have to root the phone.

If OP is careful flashing they will not lose any data or apps. May not lose many settings either.
Thank you very much!
This gives me a bit more of confidence to try 8.0. Anyway, is there a good step by step instruction how to do it and where to get the flash ROM?
Have a nice weekend!
Don't upgrate to Oreo on Sony Xperia XZ!

Just a warning... I upgraded to Oreo when it first came out earlier this week. When I did , the Bluetooth metadata stopped working in my car unless I go through this really circuitous sequence of steps evry time I have to reboot the phone. Additionally, I when from 2.5 days of standby time to 8-10 hours after the update. I've looked at the battery usage info and it claims that the biggest battery user is Android itself! So, I feel that Oreo is only half baked at this point. Stay with Nougat for the time being.

Basically you need to DL flashtool, install drivers, download your firmware and create the ftf. Start here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/help/missing-t3599732
You probably need to snag the nougat version. Last I had to change version in xperifirm:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334653
Maybe wait a few days to make sure no one finds any issues. I will try to post back if I find any.

Just upgraded yesterday, a little wary of 8.0.0 too. So far so good, no battery drain as has been seen in many past Xperia updates. I will check bluetooth (Ford Synch). Have you verified your car stereo works with other bluetooths? Have you tried unpairing then repairing?
Yes of course I unpaired etc. and yes, I tried an Xperia XA, too, and this works fine. It's been a long way of discussions with the manufacturer already. I had 7.1.0 and 7.1.1 already running with my car, but since the manufacturers software update the state is ridiculous. Bluetooth is losing connection again and again during the first 5 to 30 minutes. After that it sometimes becomes stable. InControl does not work at all and Jaguar does feel responsible in any way.

I had issues with my Bluetooth audio and my XZ1. Problem and solution may be similar. For my XZ1 I enabled the developer tools and changed the Bluetooth audio profile from 1.6 to 1.4.
Downgrade Xperia XZ from Oreo to Stock Version
Please help me .. !!!! .
After updating it to Oreo, my phone's heating up so quickly.... I urgently need to downgrade it to the stock version. Please help me asap.
I have been having issues with the rca inputs mainly and was told to do an mcu update. I cant find any concrete files to use and they have not supplied me with one. I was trying to connect subwoofer to radio and used a y splitter with rcas to plug into the green out. No sound at all and my ground is good and remote wire functions correctly. Tried different rca cables as well. Im at a loss on how to update this. Says its hf s8 series h2023. Kernal version 4.4.167. Mcu version MTCE_HF_V3.18a_1. I have a 2013 wrx base without navigation. Im trying to use an aftermarket sub and amp as well. It wont let me link the radio but its the seicane 9.0 android for 2012 forestors the 360$ usd one.
Today I got MTCE_HF_V3.3 so if you need one send me PM
I can't post link here
Hello everyone. I received an updated Firmware directly from seicane for their head unit. This is Android 10 update for the 2/32 GB unit. Everything seems to be working great so far on unit. If you would like to try it for yourself please feel free to download and install. I'm not too tech savvy so if you have any questions I'll answer them the best I can. Thought I would share for anyone to update their own unit if possible
PLEASE BE ADVISED YOU USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
I will not be held responsible for any damages done to your own unit.
Thank you!

Hey! Do you still have the file?
Since getting my phone only a few weeks ago I've not received the android 10 update (I did get the last android 9 one) but I'm really happy with everything at it stands.
I've had no bugs or issues at all and so why move to android 10 anyway?
I disabled the main Google app, Chrome etc as don't use any of these and I've seen on a previous phone that this can affect the OTA updates.
Just wondered how happy others are with 9 or 10 hence this thread.
I made the upgrade to 10 and have no regrets. All runs smoothly. I too did not receive an OTA update. Have you unlocked your bootloader? This would cause this.
For the average user though, there is little front end difference from 9 - 10. Basically, if you want to upgrade, the manual process is super easy, and doesn't even require a computer to do. If you are happy with 9 though, don't feel obligated to upgrade

It's funny as I thought I'd give it a try today so enabled Google (main app) and Chrome (plus updates), then ran a scan for any available updates....
Shocker, Now I get the notification and huge download. This is the second phone I've had that I've done this trick on so it seems like if you have either both or one of these apps disabled then you'll be skipped for OTA updates.
All installed now to 10 and yup looks pretty much the same. I'm really happy with the way ASUS ZenUI works also. Better than fully stock but not even half as intrusive as say Samsung.
I Haven't updated yet because there is no fully working GCAM on Android 10, and also no custom Kernel available yet, two features that are important for me.
I have updated. So far so good. No issues related to Android 10 itself. Two things I'd like to be fixed:
1. Every time I type my PIN-code I have to press "Go" button
2. Clear RAM shortcut doesn't clear RAM after update, just opens the proprietary tool for it.
If i knew what i know now i would never updated to 10.
- Gcam doesn't work or work really bad
- Phone stutters a lot on a game i usually play, like every x seconds
- Night photo quality is really really bad

Asus has posted an image to downgrade to Android 9. Look for "Version Android Q downgrade to Android P" at the Downloads section: https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-6-ZS630KL/HelpDesk_BIOS/
Don't know if it works for v.73 though.

Thanks, i wasn't aware there was an official way to do it.
I will wait for a couple of weeks to see if Asus came up with a fix at least for the camera. If not, i will be forced to do it.
Android 9 performed better. 10 has a few stutters and freezes at times I think it's using more ram with this update.
I hope they can fix some of these issues in a patch the microphone bug when making a call and the lag and freezes are VERY annoying

Hi guys. I've revisited this topic several times, but keep coming back to it. I'm looking for any custom recovery that will work on my PX5. There are lots of TWRP images floating around the internet, and I've probably flashed and tested every one of them. I know I could build it myself, but I simply lack the knowledge. I read that Malaysk's PX6 rom includes TWRP, and I even tried extracting the recovery from that and flashing it, but no dice. If anyone knows of a working build or would be willing to assist, please let me know.
Malaysks ROM contains a modified recovery, to enable booting a modified android system. TWRP is useless in these devices, losing the ability to flash the MCU.
If wanting to backup/restore, consider OTG instead.
I should have put that in the original post: I'm aware of losing the MCU update ability, and it's not a concern for me.
M8 if you find something concrete i want to know it please. The thing that you loose the mcu update i don't think it's a problem since if you want to do that, you can install the normal recovery then update mcu and then install back the modified one. Or the mcu is in the recovery partition?.
Anyway to have the ability to do a full twrp backup in an external sd card is damn crucial and time saver and i wonder why the rom makers don't have that in all their roms.
Atm i am with Android 8 with halk9 rom in my px5 and i had deticated to it ton of hours of micro tuning and it's running great, but i really im afraid to even try to test a 9 rom and if is not good then roll back to 8 and do everything again... Some people we have life also and we are not passing our life infront of a screen lol or in car situation alone in the car for hours with the neighborhood thinking "what a crazy guy"
Anyway I'm with you in this.

You're exactly right, and I've done it dozens of times with no issues. You also hit the nail on the head about saving time. I flash and reflash so often, either due to a new rom or messing something up. Sitting in my truck for an hour or more setting everything up again is getting old.
I've made a couple of lazy ports with Android Image Kitchen that actually booted. No touch screen though.. waiting on an OTG adapter to see if a wired mouse will work. Even if mouse support works, it's a long shot if anything even works properly. I'll post any progress I make.
*edit*
Mouse did not work. If anyone is interested, I could upload the recovery image. I lack the knowledge to make it work at this point.

I don't know if this will help, but here are my experiences updating my Samsung Galaxy A32-5G from Android 11 to Android 12 earlier this month.
Did Google screw up on your upgrade of Android 11 to Android 12?β
It's unclear to me, but did you upgrade (OTA) to A12 from 11? And, more importantly, if it wasn't an OTA upgrade, if I may, how did you go about obtaining it for your handset?

Sorry I wasn't clear. I apologize. I didn't do anything special.
I just ran a normal standard update process from Android 11 to Android 12 over the air where I ran a check in the settings for what was available and the phone said the Android 12 update was available to me from the carrier.
This week I ran another update the normal way over the air as shown in these screenshots but this isn't the Android version but the software patch level version - but the point is I just do normal updates over the air whenever they're available - just like everyone else does them.
thanks, and apologize for not seeing your help!
For sure, I'm the same model, but we're TracFone(pre-paid) variant of Verizon, I guess? But, I see some other folks using pre-paid variants like Mom's here, and they're bragging about it, getting 12! So, if anyone has a way, or knows the secret handshake requirement, I'd be grateful, as I'm not seeing much about workarounds, I think they're called ? In a last ditch effort, could I get the firmware specs from you on your 12 update, build #, etc., which should get me going somewhere. Thanks! es
All the fun stuff is rooted on A11 ;-)

too cool with that, and i'm still not seeing that secret passage we catch ourselves looking for, in my case some geek notes on how to get 'r done & get Mom's "new one" rocking on A12 all day, & everyday, baby!! Thanks, to you for your help and input, friend!
