System wide immersive mode possible on Android 11 - Google Pixel 3a Questions & Answers

Currently using Android 11 beta and it's brilliant, only problem I can find is I can't set a system wide immersive mode and I'm worried about screen burn, just wondered if anyone has found a way to activate immersive mode. ADB commands don't seem to work.

Unfortunately as of this writing there's no solution to this. I am considering switching to iOS if my phone will no longer allow me the choice to hide the navbar. Samsung allows this. I don't understand why Google can't give a simple option in settings. This problem needs more attention. Here are links discussing this issue:

Trying to run apps and games in fullscreen automatically

Hey guys,
I've searched the net and couldn't find a solution to my problem. I'm trying to run certain applications and games in full screen, I don't want to go into the quick settings each time I want to go in full screen. Is there a way either using xposed or otherwise to enable automatic full screen? Sadly immersive mode in gravitybox doesn't work with the shield.
I don't know why Nvidia didn't enable this feature under their power control settings, I'd expect to see that right below Resolution Rendering but nope... It's kind of an essential feature.
Thanks and happy New years!
Hi,
Maybe a Xposed mod?
I checked already...no

App Settings has an option to launch an app in immersive mode (http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.mods.appsettings)
But, I don't know if it's compatible with Marshmallow.
I'm currently running the LTE 32gb version so no marshmallow for me yet. Immersive mode doesn't work, does it work for you? I think Nvidia shut off immersive mode in place of their full screen mode. I'm just wondering how to activate full screen mode without actually having to go into the app. I even tried using Tasker's autoimput plugin too..to no avail. I tried App settings and gravity box, neither of them work. Immersive mode just doesn't work.

If this does't work.... I haven't tried yet App Settings.
I think, for now, you have to activate the full screen mode manually from the quick settings panel
Meh...yeah I guess I'll have to do that for now, I'll keep at it with autoimput.
Merci mate!

Since the shield has immersive support/Fullscreen support build in maybe we can get this working with tasker somehow ?
app settings 1.11 and 1.13 works fine on LP and I would assume on MM as well, assuming you have the correct xposed installed for your OS.
both are unofficial, do a search here on xda to find it.
I use it on my LTE shield with 5.11 to fullscreen apps automagically with zero issues.
if that is too much to deal with for whatever reason, there is also this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.hidesoftkeys

How to disable full screen mode for certain apps?

I have an app that is not working properly on my new 7 Pro and it turns out full screen mode is the cause. Searching the settings shows it, but it doesn't really seem to be there. How can I do this?
Download immersive mode manager from plays store it allows you to choose what apps you want to be fullscreen etc.
Thanks, not there's not a way to do it natively, without installing another app? That seems stupid.
Full screen for display
Newbie here.
My full screen for display was working great. Went to verizon to get a sim card for my cell service, and now the 3 buttons on the bottom of screen that should toggle in/out when prompted are there all the time. Do you know where a setting is for this?

4.4.4 was that Last great version of android. It gets more restrictive and worse with every update. I'm excited to see if Huawei has an os. I'd rather be able to do what I want, even if china spys on me.

Planning to get a new OnePlus 7. Just curious is there a pocket mode available which prevents screen from unlocking when it's in pocket.
yes
if prox sensor is cover you can't wake up the screen touch it. this is by default. But if you push power button that doesn't matter
How can i enable it? I can't find it in settings>Utilities

This outta do it. This app works for ROOTED AND NON ROOTED devices. I really wish Oneplus would carry some of these features on to their new phones. I don't think that will ever happen. The best I could do on my Oneplus 7 Pro was to download the "joneplus Tools [ADB/ROOT]." This app (download from play store or link below) allows you to set a pocket mode quick settings tile which is pretty handy if you don't want it on all the time and can quickly toggle it. Its got a bunch of other cool features that you don't need a root for either . Such as call recording. Without root you can turn on call recording in the native stock dialer for all your calls if you wish. That last part does require the Tasker app for the call recording which is a single $3.49 purchase. Totally worth it in my opinion since it offers tons of features for people who dont want to root. So Just download this app from the play store or apkmirror.
I would add the links but I'm a newbie and they won't let me yet. It really is worth it.
After you have downloaded jOneplus Tools [ADB/ROOT} connect phone to computer to add your ADB permission as I said you don't need to be rooted., but inorder to be able to open the app you just have to run one adb command which is in the instructions of the app. This app is really handy, it features:
-Enable Call Recording in stock app (always on)
-Allows you to edit your quick tile settings count.
-Change Animation Settings
-Turn on/off Navigation Buttons
-Enable always on OTG
-Enable Android P Navigation Gestures
-Switches to monochrome mode from application or QS tile
-Access hidden menus & more
Hope this can help someone....

Sorry about that . I never used it and I'm surprised really. It was oversight. I apologize. I just assumed it worked unun-rooted. My phone is not rooted and I never tried that.
I use this app to record all my calls automatically and to change animation scales. That I confirm works on non rooted devices.

Keyboard typing not recognized by apps in OOS

Hi - I am running OOS 10.3.1 on my OP7P. I am currently using the GBoard keyboard, and I have also used SwiftKey.
I have been experiencing a problem where I go into an app, start typing on the keyboard (say, entering a search in the browser or replying to a text message), but the keys are not being recognized in the app. If I switch to another app, the keyboard typing is recognized again. The keyboard typing is also recognized again when I switch back to the application that didn't recognize the keys a moment before.
This problem occurred with GBoard and SwiftKey, so it looks like it is an OOS issue - not keyboard related.
This seems to occur most frequently when bringing the phone out of sleep, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
I have been seeing this problem for over a month now, and some of my friends with OP phones have seen this as well.
Has this keyboard issue been previously identified?
¿GJ?
Has anybody else seen/debugged this problem?
I have seen this keyboard problem referenced by other users on Reddit, so I know that I'm not the only one having this issue.
¿GJ?
That happens to me randomly, mostly when I'm typing something on a site in any web browser. I still haven't figured out why it happens.
Happend to me randomly in messenger apps and in-game chats as well.
I am using fleksy keyboard.
This happens to Ice Bear when an app is open in the foreground and then locking the OnePlus 7 Pro for a few minutes. If Ice Bear recalls, this has happened since OOS 9.
I may have found a potential solution, which was posted here on Reddit.
For the TL;DR crowd, set up an ADB session to your OP phone, and type this: adb shell settings put global policy_control null*
Apparently, there could be an issue on our phones with immersive mode combined with gesture navigation, which this command is supposed to fix.
I can say that I haven't seen the keyboard typing problem reoccur since I sent this command to my OP7. I will keep y'all informed on how this works for me long-term.

Ah..so immersive mode and gestures combined causes the issue. Ice Bear will also give the solution a shot and will report back in a week.
Edit: For anyone wanting to execute the ADB command from their OnePlus 7 Pro, use any terminal app. Grant root with: su
After, type: settings put global policy_control null

Oh, yeah - I forgot to mention root is required to execute this command.
Update: I haven't seen this issue reoccur at all since I made the patch.

Themes / Apps / Mods Zui14PcModeSwitch Pre-release

Update : I've finally managed to do it without need of installing "Setedit".
As I have repeatedly read of users being disappointed with the lack of PC Mode in ZUI 14, so I decided to look into this.
My application simply does this with no other manipulations than a simple click on the application.
The first time you will run it, this will ask you permission to modify settings but your device will go to the desktop mode before you have time to do it.
When you will be in desktop mode if you run again on the app. You will be asked again and have to allow permission to modify settings. For a strange reason that’s only really required, for going back to the classic mode.

are you saying that if we use your application we dont need to use the staredit hack ? we simply run your app and it switches to PC mode ?
does your app switch to pc mode even when the tablet is not connected to external monitor or TV ?

staredit hack ?!?
Yes like, with setedit you will be able to switch to pc mode even when the tablet is not connected to external monitor or TV.
no, your apk file app-debug.apk.... if we install this apk file we can switch pc mode on and off ? or do we still need to do all the other stuff as well ?

If setedit is installed and if you have already run it once to change zui_pc_mode. Install my app, allow it to change system and you can turn PC mode on and off just by launching it.
I can confirm this works great. Typing this now from within Desktop mode!
Incase the app not working like mine I keep pressing but not working
You need to long press the then select app info then permissions then select modify system settings then click accept. The app will now work
Also thanks on the creator of the app because I don't need to use set edit to just go on PC mode
I wanted you make an update that I can add a shortcut on the control center
Here a GitHub and the Pre-release
It worked very well, you can download it that works. Thanks to the app developer
I just uploaded a new version.
Contrary to what I had first thought. The only really useful element in the source code of setedit, is as far as we are concerned: "targetSdkVersion 22" present in: build.gradle.
The shared key, present in the Sources of Setedit, pushed me to do the same. For this new version made available to you, I did not make this mistake, since nothing prevents you from compiling yours with your own key.
Hi, thank you for the PC mode APK. but somehow when I tried to go into the menu, all the icons are somehow overlays and it is not showing the full icons and it is making it hard for me to identify or click.
And problem is that my game used to be in portrait mode in PC mode but now it is not and the game somehow just grey screen upon starting the game.
Any idea why is it so? Thanks.

Hi,
I haven't noticed any of these issues on my device: TB-J716F ZUI 14.0.127.
Which one is yours ?
Have you tried changing the font or icon size?
Have you tried rebooting to see if the problem persists?
@ferreol-fr
Thanks for this app, it works well and has made me see for myself how pointless this mode is now.
Fwiw I also have the half icons on apps screen in productivity mode and it persisted after restart/font size tweaks..
Thanks, app works fine on Pad Pro 2022 SD870.
I mostly use it in portrait mode for writing and manga reading so PC mode will be a rare but useful mode when I need it.
Hi OP, thanks for the app but i'm also facing the same issue with the menu overlay. I've tried changing the font, font size and restarting but it's still the same

Are people able to get the video output working on the China rom? Mine hasn't worked since the beginning, thought this mode might get it working but alas no.
I have manage to resize manaully the window to portrait to able to run the game without issue. But is there any way that the system is bale to resize it automatically?
But I am still not able to resolve that overlapping icon in the menu. Tried to find way to resize the menu but somehow it doesn't let me resize.
Is there a function or setting that I can set to automatically resize all open window to let say half of the screen in portrait mode?
Thanks
Does not work on j716f zui14
