Hi guys,
I'm an Android poweruser, but definitely no guru, so I decided to share this problem with you guys. Although less urgent, it's still bothering me.
I've recently (a few months ago) purchased my TF300t. For me, it's the perfect device. However, with all it's quad core magic, the browser frequently hangs on me. Sometimes, it just works perfectly, but other times it freezes for about 5 seconds after which I receive the force close image. Would I press wait, I could continue browsing. Until, of course, the next pageload. This might seem like something minor, but it completely ruins the experience of having a great quad core tablet.
Here's some facts:
It happens all around the web, although some websites seem to trigger it the most. An example of this is the website foodgawker.com, which is a responsive website. However, this website never gives problems on my S2 with CM9.
It happens randomly. At one moment it may happen each pageload, or it may not happen at all for about 15 pageloads. Feels random.
Other browsers either give the same problem, or a terrible browsing experience.
Yes, the problem occurs after a factory reset
Yes, I've upgraded to the latest available firmware.
After a lot of dialoque with Asus, I sent it off for repairs. But as expected, all they did was wipe everything on it, and the problem still exists.
In the meantime, Chrome for Android seems to have been updated, and the problem is less apparent.
My questions:
Does anyone else experience these kind of problems with their TF300t?
Would unlocking it and installing CM help?
The reason I'm asking is because I want to determine whether or not this issue is hardware related. I don't want to be messing with custom software when I'm not totally sure the hardware's fine.
Thanks in advance

Yes, exactly so in the stock browser or clones. Hitting "Wait" often seems to fix it. Just shifted to Chrome and haven't seen it happen. Got to say not impressed by the browsing experience with any browser - slowwwwwwwwer than I expected.

So you have exactly the same problem? That kinda saddens me, since exchanging it won't have any use then. Are custom roms known to fix this?
I also have this issue....however after using the "brows2ram" app and root access, it seems to have 90% disappeared.
search XDA for the brows2ram app, install, reboot, and grant superuser permission and it seems to help a lot.
after a lot of reading here and the TF201 (prime) forum it is a fairly common issue and most of the users believe the 5th companion core is to blame.
basically downloading/scrolling (two main things in browser) are both handled by the companion core...so when this is done, it boggs down the processor.
i have yet to hear if someone experiencing this on stock OS also experiences is on a custom ROM....would love to hear this.
but if you can wait, Jelly Bean should be here pretty soon....and since jellybean was built around the nexus 7 which has almost identical specs, all lag should be gone. i expect JB to be here by september....hopefully.
in the mean time, brows2RAM has helped tremendously and makes me not even have a desire to unlock and ROM this thing.

This helps me out so much! It would explain why browsing is the only thing lagging, and games like Dead Trigger work flawlessly. I also forgot the Nexus 7 also has Tegra 3. I'm guessing Jelly Bean will work flawlessly on this tablet.
Thanks to your post I'm going to stop trying to solve this with Asus, as they'll probably won't admit this. I'll keep using chrome until the official update is here. I don't even think I'm going to root, because Chrome works acceptably!
Thanks!
Edit -> Also; September? Asus is that quick? I guess being used to Samsung, anything is quick.
I'm running hydro on tf300 with the stock web browser
the pause and wait option does still happen, but very infrequently
when I was on a stock rom, it happened all the time
now with hydro it rarely happens
And how is fluidity of web browsing? Because for me, even on Chrome, the experience isn't what I'd expect from a high-end tablet.
Try Ics Browser + and enjoy.

web browsing seems fine on hydro
there are still the normal hick ups from time to time
the difference in speed and fuidity between hydro and stock is night and day
after being on hydro for about the last month
I really don't know how I could even stand the stock rom
on hydro everything is super charged, super fast, super smooth
I've noticed the same problem on the stock rom, for that reason I switched to a early version of cm10 with jellybean. Haven't seen it happen again ever since
Hello Everybody
I am unable to use Google Chrome browser in my mobile phone.
I heard that the blank page issue in Google Chrome only dogged the nVidia Tegra based devices.
But even i am facing the very same issue and the work around mentioned where not useful.
I had to kill the application and re-open it to use it.
I can't use more than one tab in Google Chrome.
I have upgraded my mobile phone to a powerful HTC One X from Google Nexus S to use Google Chrome too.
As Google Chrome functioned very slowly in Google Nexus S.
But now Google Chrome in my HTC One X is unusable.
Can anybody suggestion solutions ?
I will explain my problem in depth now.
1 --> Open Google Chrome
2 --> Visit www.slashdot.org or any website
3 --> Open new tab and visit altavista.com or any website
4 --> Click the tab number button and switch to first tab.
Expected behavior
First tab should be loaded now.
But instead of that, first tab would reload into a blank tab.
Then i can switch to second tab either.
Even if i close all the tab, i won't be able to visit any sites in new tab there after.
So, i have quit Google Chrome by pressing the running application button.
Running 2.20 version of stock software.
This issue has been reported to Google and is known, star these issues so Google will work on them.
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=130607
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=113204
Also, if you look at the reviews of the Google Chrome reviews on the Play store written by HTC One X users you will see many people are having the issue.
I'm having the issue on a stock One XL 2.20, I've simply gone back to using the stock HTC browser for now.
As above, I have noticed this behavior as well with Evita on stock ROM.
Here are some more details :
The blank tab appears to indicate a crash in Chrome. Once the blank tab appears, you cannot close tabs or close Chrome without the application manager.
How I avoid the issue:
Always close all tabs before leaving Chrome to use other apps.
Use ES Task manager to clear all cache before starting new Chrome session. I do not suggest using task manager for any other purpose.
The issue appears to be a memory issue. If I forget to clear cache and Chrome crashes, the only way to get Chrome operational again is to restart my Evita.
Hope this helps.

Same problem here, just popped up today for the first time though.
I've had this issue with Google Chrome on my stock AT&T One XL for at least 2 or 3 months. I got sick of it very quickly and switched back to the HTC browser. I still use Chrome at least once a day or so but it crashes too often to be my main browser now.
you would think chrome browser would be the BEST for our Google phone by now, like it but thats the reason why i stack on stock browser too
I experienced the Chrome issue on my AT&T HTC One X with the 2.20 ROM since day 1. I rooted the phone and unlocked it, then installed CyanogenMod 10, and the problem seems to be fixed.

WAs the issue fixed on cleanROM? i recently rooted and went to cleanROM and the chrome issues have been bothering me from day one but havent' tried it yet since I rooted.
Hello Everybody
Thanks to everybody for sharing their thoughts.
I am not interested in rooting / modding my mobile phone as of now.
Even though i am not new to this, i just find it too cumbersome and provides less incentive.
I thought the issue in question happens only because of nVidia Tegra Drivers.
Experiencing the same issue even in Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 based mobile phone, frustrates me.
I am not sure whom to blame for this.
It would have been great if HTC put a work around for the Google Chrome's incompatibility issue in it's flagship mobile phone.
I hope Samsung Galaxy S3 users would happily be using Google Chrome in their large screen mobile phone.
The issue is still piggy back in elavate Jelly bean build is unacceptable.

The browser works great on cleanROM EXCEPT for chrome has horrible horrible battery drain. Even with "scroll tilting" off, it still uses 10+%. I suspect because its constantly refreshing and syncing with the desktop..which is a shame because its what I WANT it to do.
Also, makes my HTC one x very warm, i haven't had that issue since I first got it, and disabled GPS

If this bug is caused because of Tegra driver issue, then why this issue occurs in our Snapdragon based HTC One X?
I'm not sure if people are just really downplaying the bugs their experiencing, or maybe Canada just got a big batch of bad phones but it seems nobody online is having the problems me and a few friends are having with our phones. When 5.0 first arrived I was shocked to find I experienced none of the bugs that everyone was complaining about, 2 weeks later and my phone in unusable. A factory reset seems to clean things up but within another week my phone will become unusable again. I thought maybe my phone had broken until I spoke to some friends and found out that multiple (5+) are having the exact same issues. So my question is what's going on with the n5? How is yours working? I'm extremely disappointed this time around after the great experience I had with the galaxy nexus and n4 and would even say I was a nexus fanboy. After having the n5 since launch I have decided that I will no longer be buying nexus phones, as I have has nothing but problems with the 2 n5s I have owned.
A quick list of some of the bugs I've been experiencing are:
Terrible Battery
Immense lag / lack of response in general.
Facebook Messenger chat heads seem to close themselves about 75% of the time.
Getting the keyboard to come up is a game of hit and miss.
The Wallpaper changes itself to black (my indicator things are about to get crazy)
Data/WiFi often just stop working, while icons in the status bar appear normal
About 1 in every 4 notifications I get fails to actually send a notification.
I get a constant "attempting to reconnect in x seconds" while connected to my moto 360.
My navbar/status bar often disappear.
And the annoying "bug report captured" bug that has been persistent since I got the phone.
I've had these problems on stock 5.0, 5.0.1 as well as all custom Roms up to 5.0.2
I've even tried going back to KK, while greatly improved, I still experience much of the same problems.
Does anyone else have these or similar problems? Has anyone found anything that runs stable? Or is it just time I move on and get myself an HTC?
Using my N5 in germany and it's the best phone I've ever held in my hands Running CM12 (based on Lollipop) for now. Have also been using stock Lollipop for a few months. Both run extremely stable. To be honest: I never heard about your issues. I'm not that big of a fanboy. Never owned a Nexus device before, but I guess I'll never move away from Nexus
Just my honest opinion about the device
By the way: I've got a moto 360, too. And the connection is great - up to 10 meters at least and no random disconnects
I have zero issues with mine, but I'm on stock 4.4.4 so that may have something to do with it. I'm not a fan of Lollipop at all. Too many bugs, and I don't like the look of it.
After one year with my Nexus 5, running stock no root, never a problem. I'm a former owner of HTC flagships phones, never a problem with them.

Using Stock 5.0.1 rooted and with ElementalX kernel is good for me and have been using that setup for over a month now. No issues like what you're describing at all. :S
No problems here like that. Bug report issue is normally a poorly fitting case
Hmm... So it seems that the only people that are having these bugs live in my area... Do you think its possible we all got a bad batch of n5s at the rogers store here?
Edit: everyone experiencing these issues has bought their phones from rogers stores here in my city.

Yeah the devices purchased at the play store seem to be fine now. At first, me personally, I had tons of bugs at release. But those issues have been fixed with updates. Mainly concerning the signal and camera speed.
Thread cleaned.
If you think a report is breaking the rules or shouldn't be there for any other reason please report it and move on, antagonizing them adds nothing to the forum but makes our job harder. Thanks, Tijmen.
No issues here besides the occasional Mobile Radio active wakelock, which I did also see occasionally on KK. I did have some memory leak issues on 5.0.0 but either 5.0.1 fixed it or me removing some 3rd party background services did.

Rebooting is normally my go-to solution for problems but it doesn't seem to help these bugs. I installed CM Security and it constantly warns me about my CPU usage/RAM and battery Temperature. The culprit almost always seems to be the Facebook app (sometimes using 250+ mb of RAM just for background services) Could this be a bug with the Facebook app making my phone perform poorly... Does anyone know of any solid alternatives to the official Facebook app?

Fast for Facebook I'd a good alternative
I've been without issues since the factory images were first released, running CM12 CAF builds without issues (besides cm12 bugs)
So call me crazy but I deleted the Facebook and Messenger apps about 6 hours ago and have had 0 problems since... I'm using the official Facebook "Lite" apk I found online and while it is very ugly, things are running much smoother, just hoping that maybe this will solve the bugs I've been experiencing and I'll be able to help my friends get there phones back to a usable state.

I know it's really late in the game now, but have you tried starting in safe mode to see if you have the same issues? It could be an app causing all the grief.
Hello.
After selling the OPO, I'm struggling to decide if i should buy the LG G4 or the Galaxy S6.
I decided to buy the S6, then i noticed it has the famous RAM issue that i didnt know about before.
I really like everything else about this phone, but this issue sounds like a deal breaker. I heard that Samsung released some updates to fix this problem.
So I wanted to ask: did Samsung really fix this problem? if ill buy the S6 and update to the latest firmware, will it be snappy and with lots of free RAM?
Thanks in advance
Ram management got a little better in the latest firmware but not totally fixed like what we all want.
I read that the leaked marshmallow for note 5 have fixed the ram issue.. sooo fingers crossed ram management for s6 will also entirely be fixed like what we expect.
Better try an s6 in the stores before buying.
What is that famous RAM issue? I didn't read anything about that, neither noticed this on my s6. Which conditions do you have to see it?

It just kills apps a lot faster than say my old M7. When listening to Google Play Music just on the way home with no interactions it would just randomnly stop playing. Even more annoying is when you are casting stuff and it decides to go bye-bye, as if you want to pause it you have to reload Netflix or whatever to put it back in the right spot. Hasn't plagued me too much recently, don't know if it's because of the update or me just consciously rebooting/closing apps. Also recently I've noticed app optimization popups, so could be due to that?

Mmmm, something similar happen to me with chrome explorer, when sometimes I swapped to other app with an open Web page, when I returned to chrome it restarted itself with no open pages (I lost the open page I was reading)... It happen for some days some weeks ago, before battery app optimization functionality appeared... Since several weeks this issue didn't appeared again...

It's way better now and you can't notice it since everything loads instantly on this phone. For me it's not a deal breaker St all.
With Android 6.0 I think it'll be fixed.
Thw only time it annoys me is when I alt tab from a game, power off my phone and then it relaunches it.

I.e. you open your whatsapp chat, write a message and don't send it, leave it in the drafts... after some minutes or half hour of phone use (sometimes a simple call can be enough) when you get back to it, it's gone. Was one of the major things pissing me off.... In my OLD s3 with cyanogenmod, if I don't reboot the phone, the draft message on whatapp can stay a WEEK or more. Just one of few... most you only realize in particular but boring situations.
But like it was mentioned it is WAY better now, in the beginning was really a problem. Now with a custom rom it's way less noticeable
Hello, two months ago I got my 12gb oneplus 8t.
And recently been getting constant freezes and reboots. These normally happen when unlocking the phone and when I have some backround apps running like strava (but there are times, when there is basically nothing running in the backround). Out of all freezes only 1-5% are reboots. Out of all unlocks, 10-20% are freezes. What could be causing them? What's interesting that they started happening in 2020/12/10, when messenger servers were broken.
I tried to do a factory reset, but that didn't help.
My phone isn't rooted, I have yt vanced and I bought that phone from ali. I know a weird place to buy, but the price diferance was almost 200eur. But it isn't the "global version", where they ship a china rom oneplus to the EU, open the box and install the global rom.
Edit: I forgot to mention I am running the latest version of Oxgyen (the freezes didn't stop after the latest update). Am I the only one with these problems? Should I install lineage OS? As I quite like the launcher.

If a factory reset didn't solve the problem, may be it is a ROM issue. Try downloading the ROM again from OnePlus website and do a clean installation.
I'm also having the OnePlus 8T and never had such issues. There are bugs like screen yellowing randomly and others, but no freezing/ rebooting problems.

That yellowing in Chrome is a Chrome issue. You have to disable 'Dynamic Color Gamut' under chrome://flags/.
I'm talking of screen yellowing throughout the device. It happens at random and is present everywhere.
