Hey guys,
I know its the same with the other tablets but i wanna make one just cause its easier for people.
How to unlock::
1. Turn on your device and then go to settings --> scroll down to about tablet --> Software Information then tap the Build number 7 or 8 times or until it says you unlocked developer options.
2. Go to developer options and tick OEM UNLOCK and then a warning will pop up and just accept it.
3. Turn off your device, then while holding both volume up and down, connect your device to the pc.
4. A New screen should appear saying stuff about custom roms and stuff, Jut hold and press the up button until it resets. ( THis will erase everything on the tablet)
5. if you're like me and set up the tablet and went straightfoward to unlocking the bootloader, follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/how-to-bypass-rmm-prenormal-to-install-t3891193
So you wont have any issues flashing roms a nd stuff and dont have to wait 7 days.
6. Now your bootloader should be unlocked! (To enter download/odin mode: Do the same thing, Turn off the device and hold both volume buttons while connecting to the pc then instead of long pressing up, just press up once.)
How to root:
1. Download the firmware for your your tablet, i dont know if i can link the sites but you can google it.
2. Extract only the AP portion of the firmware.
3. Open up the AP portion with 7-zip or winrar
4. extract the boot.img.lz4 out of the AP file
5. Download Lz4 https://github.com/lz4/lz4/releases to your pc corresponding version.
6. Extract the LZ4 to the same area where the boot.img.lz4 is
7. Open command prompt in that folder and then do

lz4 boot.img.lz4 boot.img
8. Move the boot.img to your tablet, open up magisk manager then clicked Advanced Settings or Advanced, then untick Perserve AVB 2.0/Dm-verity and FIle Encryption then patch it.
9. Take the patched_magisk out of the tablet to your pc and then rename it from magisk_patched.img to boot.img
10. Use 7-zip or winrar and right click on the boot.img and add to archive
11. Select Tar (This is 7-zip havent tried winrar)
12. Once its complete use odin to flash that boot.tar on the AP Section
13. You should now be rooted

If you don’t know what you are doing, I suggest not rooting your device

Hi I'm familiar with magisk and oneplus, motorola, htc etc but not with Samsung. How can I still upgrade my device without losing root?
My tab S6 lite, notifies me about an upgrade but it looks like it hasn't got an a and B psystem partition so you can love update en before reboot just use magisk to patch the bootloader and keep root. Any suggestions?

You cannot install the OTA updates if you are rooted.
Only solution:
* back up of your apps and data with Titanium Backup
* clean install of the new ROM (flashing with ODIN), once the new firmware is available on samfrew.com
* patch the boot.img with magisk, so you are rooted again an can install Titanium
* restore te apps and data with Titanium Backup
Maybe someone can make an update script once we have a TWRP-recovery.

If you do not buy new devices for sometimes years and are not a native English speaker it can be very hard to figure out what is being written in abbreviations.

Hopefully the picture shows however its just a SS of my Root Checker app showing that it is indeed possible to root the tab 6 lite (or at least SM-P610). Since there are plenty of easy to follow guides regarding how to unlock the boot loader for this device i'm going to skip past that part and jump into what actually gave me 12+ hours of frustration.
Once the boot loader is unlocked it is time to find the stock firmware for this device (which I feel its necessary to mention that there are 2 that are almost identical save for literally one number).
1. XAR-P610XXU1BTI3-20200924123941 <---- WRONG!
2. XAR-P610XXU2BTI3-20200924123941 <----- RIGHT!
once you have the correct firmware as seen above and its downloaded onto your computer open the compressed file (I used WinRAR) and you should see 4 different files.
1. AP_P610XXU2BTI3_CL19529942_QB34299355_REV00_user_low_ship_meta_OS10.tar.md5
2. BL_P610XXU2BTI3_CL19529942_QB34299355_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
3. HOME_CSC_OMC_OXM_P610OXM2BTI3_CL19529942_QB34299355_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
4. CSC_OMC_OXM_P610OXM2BTI3_CL19529942_QB34299355_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
The file needed in the next step is the one I have listed as number 1 (beginning with AP). Select just that one and extract it to your desktop. At this point you are going to need a compression software (I used 7Zip which is free). Once you have 7Zip installed right click on the AP file that's on your desktop and just below the open with option you should see an option that says 7 Zip with and extendable sidebar. On that same sidebar the first option you should see is "Open Archive" which you will want to select.
You should now be looking at a window with 8 files and 1 folder however the only file you should be concerned with is the one named "boot.img.lz4". **this is where it gets kinda funky if your not overly familiar with this process**
At this point you will want to go to github.com/lz4/lz4/releases and scroll down a little until you see a download link for a file "lz4_win64_v1_9_2.zip". Once downloaded open the zip and extract the entire folder to your desktop (it should be named LZ by default).
Open the LZ folder and take the "boot.img.lz4" file you extracted earlier and copy it into the LZ folder. Once copied simply Drag and drop "boot.img.lz4" onto the .exe called "lz4". If done correctly a new file should suddenly appear in the same folder that is now simply named "boot" but you will notice that it is now in a Disk Image File format.
(at the end of the guide ill put a URL for a video which shows exactly what I just described here, please follow the video if there is any confusion).
At this point you are going to connect your tab 6 lite to your computer and if it hasn't been done already turn on USB debugging from the developers option and install any drivers needed. Once your tablet and computer are able to communicate (i.e you can open your tablet as a drive on your computer) you will want to copy the "boot" file from the previous step into someplace you will remember (I used my downloads folder). Once onto the tablet you will now download and open Magisk Manager and proceed to patch only this one specific file that you have copied over.
Once patched you should see a copy of the boot file in your downloads folder which will now be named "Magisk_Patched". take this newly patched file and copy in onto your computers desktop.
Rename "Magisk_Patched" to "boot.img" and then right click the file. Again you will want to hover over the 7 Zip option however this time you are going to select the option "add to archive..." which is about halfway down the list. Once selected a new window will come up which will allow you to set the format to .tar. with the name set to boot.tar and .tar selected as the format hit the OK button and on your desktop a new WinRAR Archive file should appear named boot.tar.
Now is when you can finally boot your tablet into Odin mode and open Odin as an Administrator (I used the latest version 3.14.4). Once Odin recognizes your device select the AP button and select the newly created boot.tar as your input (The file location should look similar to this C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\boot.tar provided you saved everything on your desktop like I did).
Once loaded into Odin select the options tab and UN-select Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time before hitting the Start option.
At this point if you did everything correct you should see the boot file being flashed onto the device. Once completed with no errors boot the device into the normal stock recovery and wipe the Cache and then factory reset the device. On the next boot up you should see in addition to the normal "boot loader is unlocked blah blah blah" another message that says you have an illegitimate copy of android on your device and that it may not function or update properly.
Just ignore the message and after a few moments the device should continue to boot into the initial set up page. Work your way through the set up and go online to re-download Magisk Manager. This time when you open the app for the first time it will give you a dialog box that says that the Magisk Operation is incomplete and will ask you if you want to complete it. Agree to complete the process and it will auto run in the background for a moment before it shows completed.
It was finally at this point that I ran Root checker and was met with the very first picture in my post. The biggest Issue I found in all of this was the fact that aside from one single comment in a post here on xda, nowhere else does it explain that you need to extract the boot file, convert it first into an img, THEN patch it, THEN flash it..... smh I cant tell you how many times I wiped my device and had to flash the stock recovery until I got this. I hope this helps you guys moving forward and doesn't just cause more confusion but here are all the links to the videos and files I referenced in order that I mentioned them!

[GUIDE] Use Research Download (Spreadtrum ROM Flash)

How To Use Research Download!
Hey all! I was looking around the web and i didn't seem able to find a actually proper tutorial on how to
use research download for flashing phones and such. It not necessarily difficult it just took me a while to
figure out how to use when i first started using it so i thought I'd make a tutorial for anyone who doesn't
know it
Glossary
Flash: To overwrite your phones existing software with another.
Rom: Firmware for your phone.
.pac file: File in which research download uses.
Before this it is important to have the VCOM drivers for you phone installed on your computer. (Links Below)

}
To start go ahead and press the first gear button. This will open up a browse menu
Use the menu to browse for where your .pac file for your phone is saved. These files are usually given
from the phones manufacture. The browse menu can only open .pac files.
Once the file is loaded you can tell, you will be able to see the name on the bar (as shown).
Next press the second gear to open up the settings menu.
1. How much to port (self explanatory)
2. Bautrate. Leave this at 115200 unless your phone manufacture said otherwise. This works for the SC6820.
3. This will be automatically selected once you load the .pac file.
4. Where all the files are stored. You can actually extract these once you load a .pac file hehe .
5. Name of Each file. If its ticked it will be flashed. You can untick things you don't want to be flashed.
6. This is just if your going to build a .pac file from parts, don't worry about it that's a whole other thing.
Once your don't editing the settings you can go ahead and press Ok.
After your done press the arrow like button. This will start the process and have it ready for your phone.
Take the battery out of your phone now for at least 15 seconds. Place it back and plug in the usb while
simultaneously holding the volume down button. You should see in research download that it has started
flashing! ( You can let go of the volume key now ) When it is finished just press the stop button and
disconnect your phone! :victory:
Feel free to ask questions, but PLEASE don't quote this whole thing. Quote sections!

Fail: Preserve Calibration fail (cannot find nv item in nv) What does it mean?
I just made up the PAC file with NV = mtd6.backupfixnv.yaffs2.img extracted from other phone (same model). This is what was supposed to be done isn't it? Is the error saying that I got a wrong nvitem file or something?
I couldn't extract nvitem.bin file so I just pointed it to the mtd6.backupfixnv.yaffs2.img file.
Thanks ...
Good Guide!
All steps are described clearly...
But in the case of Spredtrum YXTEL G926 (Clone of Galaxy Ace) we have to UNCHECK all the items in Calibration Tab also....

I'm trying to unbrick a chinese elitek f6658 device. The only rom i've found for this device is this Elitek f6658 .
There should be a .pac file in order to flash this but in the rom package i can't find any, only a .p5c file. Tried to extract all the files inside in order to create a .pac file as mentioned above, but i can't find 1-2 .img files that are needed for packaging and the result is an error when trying to load the packet file. Anyone have any idea how can i restore this chinese brick?

Make sure you have ALL the drivers installed correctly and that when u first connect it its showing up as somthing like "Spreadtrum phone" connected in your new devices popups. Probably good to restart the computer after you install the drivers. Are you using 64 or 32 bit? Ive had lots of troubles lately with 64bit windows 8 because drivers would not install because of signature verification. Works better on windows 7.

6. Go to "Download" tab and Click "Scatter-Loading" Button, move to folder created in Step 3. and select the file "MT6753_Android_scatter.txt". Press the "Download" Button
7. Power down your Cube T8 tablet. After power down, connect it to a USB Port on your PC (No, you don't need to power it up - leave it powered down!). After a few moments, the flash tool should recognise the tablet and will install twrp recovery and should show "Success" Screen
8. Remove tablet from PC. Boot into Boot Selection by pressing Volume-Up and Power button simultaneously, Select "Recovery" and wait for twrp booting up.
9. In twrp, Install Zip File downloaded on Step 1. This should be found in Folder "MyFavorite"
10. Reboot device. By selecting "Reboot" in twrp, the device will hang. But don't worry; just press the power button for about 10 seconds for a forced reboot.
11. Voilà, you have a rooted Cube T8 Plus
Thanks for the guide. Can you provide more mirror? Uploaded is currently blocked in my country. Google Drive would be sweet.
Thanks.
Anybody tried this?
It works perfectly, but I had to disable the driver's signature check.
Now I just need the modified scatter file to get a better memory repartition. These russian guys on pda.ru found out how to repartition the memory, but the file is now disappeared from internet http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=695306&st=560#entry44767726
Yes !
it worked for me but i didnt succeed in installing the right driver (package given in this post was correctly installed) for tablet in off mode,
so i had to force download of recovery and if SuperSU install (with error) when i launch it it warn for binary installation.
but root is effective and i can now use soft like adaway or else that need complete root access :victory:

That's weird, it worked flawlessly for me.
By the way, the internal 2 GB storage is way to small for me, I need a bigger partition and since the 4pda guys deleted their scatter files, I'm trying to create it by myself following this guide, I hope to not mess up things
Ok, I found the scatter editor (that was deleted too). Here you can download it. OP, if you want, you can add it in the guide.
Thanks for your feedback and your work Dyonysus, i assume all errors was consecutive to Kingroot installation (he didn't succeed in rooting but i left it installed when i flashed the recovery as i checked sometmes if a root policy was avaible)
This root guide can be used for Cube T8 also?
I also confirm this method works perfectly. Good job finding this.

So, have you succeeded in repartitioning the internal memory? If yes, did you face any issues or errors in the process and is the device stable and working as fast afterwards?

Unfortunately I didn't. I got a bunch of problems tryin' to forge the new scatter file and, when I finally got a decent one, the damn tool didn't flash it properly.
If someone could find those two files or just ask those russian guys to upload them again, it'd be terrific.
Hi,
This post is a subject to change (grow), since I will keep it as a record for my tips for this fine tablet.
Installation of TWRP recovery and increasing /data partition (YES! That's possible)
I've succeeded getting TWRP, root and larger /data partition, so after screenshot I'll put detailed how-to. Sorry for duplicating first post, but I'd like to have everything in one place in the way I exactly did it.
Warning: this method seems to be blocked in some newer OS updates, see this post for reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64801688&postcount=25

You need SD card for that.
Cube T8 Plus TWRP and root:
1. Download SuperSu and copy it to the root of SD card (without extracting): http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
2. Downlad Utility/Driver to PC: http://uploaded.net/file/eyo5yt8c
3. Download Cube T8 TWRP recovery to PC: http://uploaded.net/file/o54jinin and unpack.
4. Install driver on PC. Depending on Windows version, if the driver installation fails, it may be necessary to disable signature check (google for that).
5. Run flash_tool (downloaded in step 2). If it doesn't run, try copy it to the root folder of your hard drive, eg. C:\SP_Flash_Tool_exe_Windows_v5.1516.00\, albo D:\SP_Flash_Tool_exe_Windows_v5.1516.00\
6. In "Download" section choose "Scatter-Loading" point to "MT6753_Android_scatter" from /Recovery (downloaded in step 3), press "Download" button.
7. Turn off the tablet. Connect it via USB to PC (tablet needs to be switched off!). After short while, flashing tool should recognize the tablet and start flashing automatically, installing TWRP recovery. After that you should get "Success" screen.
8. Disconnect tablet from PC. Run it in Recovery by pressing VOLUME_UP and POWER simultanously.
9. Using VOLUME_UP, choose "Recovery" and confirm it by pressing "VOLUME_DOWN". Wait untill TWRP starts.
10. In TWRP choose 'install ZIP' and point to "/external sd/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip"
11. After installation is finished, choose "Reboot". Recovery will hang, but do not fear Press Power for 10s to force turn off. Then turn on the tablet.
Your tablet is now rooted!
Change partition size:
1. Download and copy to the root of SD (without extracting) Resize_v22.4.1-signed.zip: (take attachment from the first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/guide-how-to-resize-data-internal-t3180978/ )
2. Run the tablet in Recovery by pressing VOLUME_UP and POWER simultanously.
3. Using VOLUME_UP, choose "Recovery" and confirm it by pressing "VOLUME_DOWN". Wait untill TWRP starts.
4. In TWRP choose 'install ZIP' and point to "external sd/Resize_v22.4.1-signed.zip""
5. In one of following windows choose the partition size. I recommend between 8GB and 10GB. WARNING: If you choose less than the current size, you may loose your data. More than or equal to 8GB is a safe value.
Enabling Multiuser accounts:
1. The device must be rooted
2. Use any root explorer to edit /system/build.prop.
3. Add to the end of a file:
Code:
fw.show_multiuserui=1
fw.max_users=5
4. Reboot
Info: After first try to swich to guest the device force rebooted, but then it worked well.
Disabling killing background apps
If you encounter situation in which apps are being killed right after they are put to background (each application switch using recent apps causes application reinitialization), just make sure that Developer Options/Apps/Don't keep activities is switched off!
Permamently disabling pre-installed chinese apps (they will not reappear after full reboot)
There are 6 chinese apps pre-installed, which can be easily disabled. You can try to simply uninstall them, but you'll find that after full reboot they reappear.
So the best way to disable them is to use any root explorer and get rid APKs in /system/vendor/operator/app. I myself renamed app folder to app.old. They do not appear anymore.
What to do if tablet seems to be dead (black screen - no reaction), but it just misbehaves
Couple of times I've had a situation in which the screen was blank and I couldn't wake up the device. I could however run recovery, so the first time I performed reset from recovery and it helped.
Next time I found out that it's automatic brightness that fails and causes the screen to go blank. So the solution is to press power button, make a swipe gesture from the top to show brightness slider (you will not see it, but it works even on the lockscreen), and try to blindly press this slider. It should be about 2,7 cm (1,06 inch) from the top, with ca. 3cm (1,2 inch) margins on the left and right. Then stop using autobrightness with slider set to zero.
Thanks a ton
Amazing , followed your instructions and my tablet is now rooted and also has 9+GB of data partition. Thanks a ton.. Keep up the good work.
--Rao:
after using the resize script it not remount the partition and android not start. Android ask for a password to "decrypt data" but the problem is that the partition is missing.
Any suggest about this?
thanks
For the moment i can resize partition up to 6 gb using a edited scatter file
Please can I use this safely on the original Cube T8?

[root] ulefone armor 2 - easy rooting procedure [SUPERSU]

Hello mates! What a heck of a problem rooting this fancy brick, right? Not anymore ! The guides available in here are very confusing and lack of simple information. I'm just trying to help.
Special thanks goes to sumec100 who made me into the first steps of this process.
Rooting the Brick
*What will you need in a first moment:
- SDK MANAGER AND PLATAFORM TOOLS ONLY https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html#downloads *end of the page, 132mb archive* (Plataform-tools is attached in case you can't find it)
- SuperSU: https://mega.nz/#!t2wGDbhL!H07JxlbmLH2tFQD7Frx2BKlJp0AyDthXkbEj6sw4z08 (this one worked out) (Leave it in your SD Card before start the process)
- TWRP ported by Jemmini from 4pda and translated to English by TuksOID. : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Uwkl_2vqHfXkbLGmF-gKbs63UxVKmw_T
- ADB Driver Installer: http://adbdriver.com/downloads/
- ARMOR 2 Latest Drivers: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B8NC4kBpjQhYdDNhdzdUdTRsRFE&usp=sharing
0) Go into your Ulefone Armor 2.
Settings >About phone > Tap ''build number'' 8 times until you see ''now you are a developer''.
Developer options> OEM unlocking (yes) >USB Debugging (Yes)
After all drivers are installed in Driver_Auto_Installer you downloaded from ulefone.com keep ADB Driver Installer open and plug in your phone on your PC. It will auto detects your MediaTek device. Just click ''Install'' wait until it finishes and close it. Now you are properly connected to your phone.
1) Open ''cmd.exe'' as an administrator.
Type: cd (path you unziped plataform-tools inside SDK tools folder) kind of looking like this: ''X:YOUR PATH\tools\platform-tools''
Put the recovery image you downloaded (I suggest you to rename it as ''recovery'') in ''plataform-tools''
2) Back to the cmd in the way you leaved it do it:
adb reboot bootloader Press Enter. The phone will reboot in fastboot mode. (I suppose you did not shut it down, please don't)
fastboot flashing unlock Press Enter. The phone will prompt you. Read the content of the text if you want. To keep going press ''Volume Up'' DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img Press Enter. Now the TWRP will be flashed. Note that I used ''recovery'' as file name.
After the successful flash:
fastboot boot recovery.img Press Enter. TWRP will now start.
3) Unplug your phone.
Your TWRP will show a ''Enter Code'' prompt since your device stills encrypted. Press ''Cancel''
Drag the bar to allow modifications;
Press ''Wipe'' in the main menu;
Drag the bar to do a Factory Reset (THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL);
Press ''Install'';
Select the SuperSU file you downloaded in the above. (I hope you copied it in your SDCard. If you did not, You can plug your phone in your PC, mount your Storage via TWRP, copy the zip file and keep going);
Drag the bar to flash SuperSU zip file (DO NOT select any parameters)
Press ''Wipe Dalvik/Cache''
Press ''Reboot System''
Wait for it.
If you had a successful boot, now your device is rooted. Cheers !
Did your device don't boot in 15 minutes? I'm quite sure you messed up but keep calm, don't panic!
Unbricking the brick
*What will you need:
SPFlashtool: https://spflashtools.com/windows/sp-flash-tool-v5-1728
Latest Ulefone Armor 2 ROM: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8NC4kBpjQhYdEJTdTdpazVGQjg
The software is quite of auto-explained. Please, Do not use the Ulefone's SPFlashtool, use the one I provided. (I DID NOT CREATE IT)
Shut off your phone
In SPFlashtool set the ''scatter-loading file'' inside the ROM zip, Click ''choose'' and locate it.
Keep it ''Download Only''
Click ''Download'', SPFlashtool will be waiting for your device. (REMEMBER YOU NEED THE DRIVERS I QUOTED ABOVE FOR ALL PROCESSES)
Plug your phone.
Wait until SPFlashtool say it is finished.
[*]After that your phone is brand new. If you want to try again just go up and follow all steps again (Correcting mistakes, of course)
Known Issues
-Latest Magisk is not working with our Stock ROM. It bootloops.
-Latest Nougat Xposed Module Bootloops our phone too.
Any doubts or corrections please, say it !

(GUIDE:) How to ROOT the TAB S6 - SM-T860 (Wi-Fi Model) - (12/10/21):

Hello all,
BORING INTRO STUFF (Safely Ignore This):
I couldn't find any guide that was current enough to make me feel confident in going through with rooting this tablet. So because of that, I decided I would make on my own guide for those that needed this. I tried multiple guides here and all of them resulted in a boot-loop.
VERY SMALL PSA: I'm apologizing in advance if this guide is both pointless and longer than it needs to be. I figured it would be useful as a future reference in-case anyone needed this.
THINGS YOU WILL NEED:
* TAB S6 - SM-T860 (Wi-Fi)
* This can be done on Android 9,10 & 11 (Process is the same)
* Your specific firmware downloaded (*DO NOT SKIP THIS*)
* Tablet is charged to at least 50%
* Maximum of 20 minutes to both read & follow the process
* FIRMWARE: The link below is the firmware I used. I would still advise you to both look for your specific version and to use the link provided below only if your tablet is exactly as followed:
* (T860XXU4CUI4) - BUILD NUMBER
* (ANDROID 11) - ANDROID VERSION
* (XAR - CELLUAR SOUTH) - SERVICE PROVIDER SOFTWARE VERSION
( https://samfirms.com/SM-T860/KOR/T860XXU4CUI4 )
* SAMSUNG USB DRIVERS: ( https://developer.samsung.com/android-usb-driver )
* ODIN: ( https://samfirms.com/download-odin ) Latest is 3.14.4. Use that one or the newest one
* TWRP (OPTIONAL): T860 (Wi-Fi) ONLY. DOWNLOAD VERSION "twrp-3.6.0_9-0-gts6lwifi.img.tar" OR THE LATEST ONE AVAIABLE.
* MAGISK APP: ( https://magiskmanager.com/downloading-magisk-manager )
* LZ4 TOOL: ( https://github.com/lz4/lz4/releases )
* 7-ZIP: ( https://www.7-zip.org/download.html )
HOW TO ROOT:
1. UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER: *** THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DATA *** (GO TO SETTINGS > ABOUT TABLET > SOFTWARE INFORMATION & TAP BUILD NUMBER 7 TIMES. GO TO DEVELOPER OPTIONS > TOGGLE ON OEM UNLOCKING) TURN OFF THE TABLET. AT YOUR PC, HAVE A CABLE CONNECTED TO THE PC. WHILE HOLDING BOTH VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP, PLUG IN THE CABLE. WHEN THE SCREEN TURNS ON, PRESS AND HOLD VOLUME UP.
WHEN THE SCREEN CHANGES PROMOTING YOU TO UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER, PRESS VOLUME UP. ONCE BOOTED UP, GO THROUGH THE SETUP AGAIN AND MAKE SURE Wi-Fi IS CONNECTED. GO BACK TO SETTINGS, ENABLE DEVELOPER OPTIONS AGAIN AND THEN ENABLE USB - DEBUGGING.
2. EXTRACT THE BOOT.IMG.LZ4 FILE AND MOVE IT TO YOUR TABLET: After 7-Zip is installed, the LZ4 Tool and the firmware you downloaded is extracted somewhere, open the extracted firmware folder. Right-click on the AP file and select 7-zip then open archive. Look for boot.img.lz4, drag it inside of the LZ4 Tool. Once done, drag the boot.img.lz4 on top of the LZ4 executable. It will be extracted as boot.img. Right-click the boot.img file and select 7-zip then add to archive. Change "Archive format" to tar and rename it to boot.tar. Finally, move it to your tablet's storage.
3. DOWNLOAD THE MAGISK APK: Install the Magisk apk that you downloaded and open it up. Within the app, select install, uncheck recovery mode and press next then check "Select and Patch a file". Locate your boot.tar file that you moved into your storage from earlier and wait for Magisk to process it.
4. USING ODIN: Go ahead and locate the new file, it starts with Magisk (NOT THE BOOT.TAR FROM EARLIER SHOULD START WITH MAGISK). Once done, move the Magisk tar file to your computer and turn off the tablet. With the tablet off and Odin open (Run as administrator) , press and hold both VOLUME DOWN & VOLUME UP then plug the cable from your pc into your tablet. With Odin open, go into the "options" tab, uncheck "Auto Reboot" and Select "AP". Locate the Magisk tar file you moved from your tablet and then press "Start".
ONCE IT SAYS "PASS" THEN STOP AND READ THIS BEFORE CONTINUING. *IMPORTANT*
PRESS AND HOLD BOTH POWER AND VOLUME DOWN FOR 7 SECONDS. THE SCREEN WILL TURN BLACK. VERY QUICKLY WHILE STILL HOLDING POWER, PRESS AND HOLD VOLUME UP INSTEAD. PRESS POWER TO THE BOOTLOADER UNLOCK PROMPT AND YOU SHOULD BE IN RECOVERY. THIS SHOULD BOOT YOU INTO STOCK RECOVERY. USE THE VOLUME KEYS TO NAVIGATE, SELECT "Wipe data/factory reset" then press the power button and select "Factory data reset". Finally, select "Reboot system now" and Wait for the tablet to reboot into the OS.
5. FINISHING UP: After the tablet has restarted back into android and you took a couple of minutes to go through the setup one last time. Scroll up into the app drawer and make sure that you see the app "Magisk", go ahead and select it and press ok to download Magisk. Afterwards, open it up and Magisk will ask you to reboot to finish setting up root. Press ok. Once restarted you are done with the rooting process.
Lastly, as an optional step you can install TWRP.
6. TWRP INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL): With the tablet off and Odin running on your pc, go ahead and press VOLUME DOWN AND VOLUME UP at the same time then plug in the data cable from your PC. Press VOLUME UP to go into download mode. Once in download mode, select "AP" then select the TWRP tar file you downloaded and make sure to uncheck "Auto reboot" from the options tab in Odin. Click start and after it says "PASS" unplug the data cable. On the tablet, press VOLUME DOWN AND POWER to reboot and when you see THE SCREEN TURN BLACK, QUICKLY PRESS AND HOLD BOTH POWER AND VOLUME UP. You should be in TWRP and you are now officially done.
* From now on, I would recommend you use the Magisk app or some reboot app to boot into recovery as it is difficult to use the button combinations to access recovery.
* IF YOU'RE NOT USING MAGISK TO REBOOT TO RECOVERY, I WOULD USE THIS APP INSTEAD: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eypcnnapps.quickreboot&hl=en_US&gl=US
Credits: If all went well then I appreciate you taking the time to read through this guide carefully. Hope it was as clear as possible and that you found it helpful. I will be editing this post from time to time to make it cleaner.
Again, Thank you and if you have any questions, I will answer them when I see them.
THANK YOU SO MUSH IVE BEEN STRUGGLING SO HARD TO GET ROOT ON THIS TABLET FINALLY THANK YOUUUUUU
by the way guys, when it says to reboot to make magisk work.
you are risking a bootloop.
Oh by the way, aside from TWRP being wonky thank you for the guide I had been playing with the idea of rooting this thing for over a year now. You made it easy.
I go through all the steps and it works fine. Once I try for TWRP I end up with
"partition recovery
Reason recovery: Error verifying vbmeta image: invalid vbmeta header (6)
CUSTOM recovery
VBMETA T860XXU4DVG6, 54204454R"
From that point it just loops back to that message and downloading mode until I wipe it all and start over again. I TWRP a no go for the S6 now? I guess I can dig around on their site as well. Any input anyone wants to throw my way will also be appreciated.
Hi Sadistic - ,
I need to start with a complement. This is a really clear guide.
But, When I get done with step 3, the Magisk patched boot file has a .img extension
On step 4, Odin is expecting a .tar file extension so the file doesnt show up.
Did I miss something?
Thanks

Yes, step 2 is moving the extracted boot file (re-named to .tar) to my tablet and then patching it with magisk.
The patched file from Magisk has an .img extension.

Ah I see, I would try to do step 3 again, take screenshots of the end result from magisk o:
Let's just cancell this. it was over 20 days since I asked for help & now I'm getting asked for screenshots.
I have moved on.
I probably should have put that in my reply.

seems like after rooting mine the storage has been cut by a big margin, from 128 to 32gb. any way of fixing this?

SM-X200 (Galaxy Tab A8) Root Guide

New to this community I hope this post is welcome here. Thanks to many of you I got a successful first time root and thought I would make a decent guide for others that stumble across this eventually.
This guide is for Windows only. I'm sure it would work similarly on Linux, but this is specific to Windows.
I AM NOT RESPONSABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE OR BRICKED DEVICE. That is always a risk you take with rooting, altering any software/firmware. This method did work for me, and if followed correctly it should work for you. Make sure you are using the same device this guide is for. That all being said, if anything goes wrong, this device is very easy to fix bootloops, soft bricks etc. Carry on.
YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA AND YOUR TABLET WILL BE RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULT!! BACKUP ANYTHING YOU DONT WANT TO LOSE BEFORE STARTING THIS ROOT.
YOU WILL NEED A COMPUTER. This is NOT a hardware only root, in this guide, again, we will be using Windows 10.
Before starting anything, this will be the software list you need to download and install before moving forward...
The latest release of Magisk: GitHub - topjohnwu/Magisk: The Magic Mask for Android v.25.2 was the latest release at the time of this post, it might be updated when you are reading this. It should still work the same.
Odin: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachments/odin3-v3-14-1-zip.5158505/ this should be a direct download link. If you dont like that, here is a link to the XDA fourm itself, make sure to download the Odin3 3.14.1.zip, ( 3.13.1.zip is not a link, reddit just highlights it because of the .zip, you just need to scroll down and find it in the forum, should be 1st or second in the list) NOT THE PATCHED VERSION.
The Firmware for your device (SM-X200) This is where I got mine, mind you it's the USA version: https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-X200/XAR/X200XXU1AVC1 If you are out of the states, there is many other sources for your exact firmware version, just type the second half of your build number (starting with "X200...etc.' into the browser followed by firmware then "download". The build number can be found in the software information inside of the "About tablet" section at the bottom of your settings.
The Samsung USB drivers: Samsung Android USB Driver | Samsung Developers You will need these to ensure a proper connection between your PC and tablet
And finally, this is optional, this already patched boot.img file already converted to .tar: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Rm4BPaIVXWClhjKFencRnheJlDB3RRVm/view This is a working boot file, at least for me and many others on XDA, feel free to make your own if you wish, it will be explained in the guide below.
P.S Using the boot file above will save you some time and may help you avoid errors or crashes inside of odin or on your tablet. Also, better for those not as experienced.
The Guide now starts below.
Enable Dev options. (This is done by going into the "About Tablet" section at the very bottom of your settings, clicking "Software information", then clicking build number multiple times until a prompt shows up saying you are now a developer, or have unlocked dev settings.)
Enable OEM unlock inside of Developer settings.
Power off device, then hold both volume up and down buttons and plug your tablet into your PC to boot into download menu
Hold volume up once in download menu, to start OEM unlock prosses
When unlocked, the device with automatically factory reset
Set up device, Enable Wi-Fi either during or after setup prosses.
Re-Enable dev settings (as we did in step #1), and make sure "Enable OEM unlock" Is on and or grayed out.
Download latest firmware for your device and extract it using 7zip, (Link for firmware is at the begining of this guide) there should now be a list of 4 files starting with BL_, AP_, CSC_OMC, and HOME_CSC. (We won't be using HOME_CSC, more on that later).
Using Odin, install the AP BL and CSC . In the BL slot, click the BL, then go to the extracted firmware from earlier and select the file the file that starts with "BL_X200". Then give it a second to load in, move to the AP section. Click AP, then select the file from the extracted file again, that starts with "AP". And for CSC, select the file "CSC_OMC..." Not the "CSC_HOME..." After all the files are in the correct slots, click Start at the bottom of the Odin3 application.
Once odin is finished, you need to boot back into stock OS by holding down volume and power button to get out of download menu, if prompted to push power button during boot, do so.
Go through the setup again, enable Wi-Fi and check and make sure OEM unlock is still grayed out and enabled.
Download Magisk From there official GitHub on to your tablet (Link above)
Install Magisk
IMPORTANT!!
This is where you have two options, either skip these steps, and use the provided boot.img file, or make your own (this is harder, you may run into errors and issues, but most of you have been doing this much longer than me, this is just a guide from someone new to this, so I thought my incite may be easier to understand) SKIP STEPS #14-#21 if you chose to download the provided boot.tar file at the beginning of this guide. (I would recommend reading them still, because understanding the prosses will help with a successful root, whether or not you choose to make your own boot.img file, this advice is from experience. Knowledge is power, right?
14. If you choose to make your own patched boot file with magisk, go back to your PC, extract the "AP_X200..." file inside of the firmware file you already extracted, send that file to your Tab A8 (again this is for the SM-X200 ONLY!) via plugging your tablet into your laptop (MAKE SURE ITS POWERED ON AND UNLOCKED)
14.5. You will be prompted to allow data transfer between your tablet and the PC something like " allow this PC to access...etc". Allow it. Open your tablets root storage from the file manager on your windows computer. This PC, then select your tablet. You should see the root files.
15. Return back to the folder of the extracted AP_X200... file you extracted previously; it should be in a standard file format now, not a .tar file
16. Find the "Boot.img" file, copy it and return to your tablets root file
17. Paste the boot.img file you copied from the extracted AP_X200... file, into the root directory of your tablet. Then unplug your tablet and return to your tablet for the next step.
18. Open magisk, click install on the top option, to the right of "Magisk" NOT THE ONE THAT SAYS "App". Then click "Select and patch file" find your "boot.img" file you previously copied over to your tablet in step #16/#17, its often in recent files, but should always be in the tab "Galaxy tab A8" You can find that tab by tapping the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner. Once there, select the "boot.img" file.
19. Once you find your file, click "Let's go" back in the main Magisk screen
20. Once completed, it should show that it installed the patched boot.img file in your tablets download directory. You have now successfully patched the boot file. If you get an error or a crash, try again. If you keep running into errors, make sure your file is the correct "boot.img" file. Don't be shy, re-read the guide, start over, if necessary, we haven't gone too far yet to try again.
21. Plug your tablet back into your PC, go back to your tablets root directory via your computers file manager, open whichever file Magisk installed its patched "boot.img" file (it should be in the downloads folder of your tablets root directory) copy it to your computer. You can move it anywhere but if you move it back to where the other firmware files that we downloaded and extracted are, you will need to right click the file, hover over 7zip, then click "Add to archive". Then, in the section of the options where it says "archive format" change the file type to tar. You will need to do this step either way, but make sure it's done BEFORE moving it to the other files we extracted earlier, because it will prompt you to replace the file, we don't want to do that.
22. Now take your tablet, unplug it if it's still plugged in, and power off. Once it's powered down completely, hold both the volume up and down buttons like earlier to get into download mode when unlocking the OEM, and plug it into the PC (WHILE STILL HOLDING THE VOLUME BUTTONS UNTIL THE MENU APPEARS). Once the download menu appears, (should be familiar by now) click once on the up-volume button, and you will now be ready to download your files to root your device! Yayy!
23. Open Odin3, and it should have on the left a, "Log" info box, "<ID: somthing/somthing> Added! ("something/something will be numbers, just make sure it says added, that means it sees your Tablet is in download mode and ready for your patched files"
24. You will see 4 slots to the right of the Log page inside of Odin. They will read (top to bottom) "BL", "AP", "CP", "CSC, and "USER DATA". Only BL, AP, and CSC will be used in this prosses, and should be the only ones with check marks to the left of them. If the check marks are not checked, check them.
25. Now, (don't worry almost done!) In the BL slot, click the BL box, go to the extracted firmware from earlier (Step 8) and select the file the file that starts with "BL_X200". Then give it a second to load in, move to the AP section. Select it, then find your boot.img file you made using magisk, or downloaded via the link at the top of this post. Select it, and now move on to CSC. Click it, find your "CSC_OMC" file (you might get away with using the CSC_HOME..." file, but at this point your tablet shouldn't have anything you want to save, as it should have been wiped when unlocking the bootloader, so just take my advice and use the stock CSC_OMC file.
26. Now, you should have files in the BL slot, the AP slot, and the CSC slot. Double check and make sure there are nothing in the "CP" slot, nor the "USERDATA" slot. Once you are ready, and all files are in the correct slots, and your tablet is ready to start downloading, (should have an empty progress bar under the "cancel" instructions on your tablet screen) go ahead and click " Start" at the bottom of the Odin application.
27. This prosses should be relatively quick, less than a minute, but in my many tries, sometimes it was quick, other times it took a minute or two. Once done, the Odin app on your PC should read "Pass" in a green box towards the top right corner of the app, under the Odin logo.
28. Proceed to shut down the device, by holding down on the Power and Volume Down keys, once the screen goes black, lift off the power AND volume down key, and immediately press down on the Power key (again) and the Volume UP this time. (Some guides have said it's not necessary to release from the power key when the black screen starts, and to only change from the volume down key to the volume up key, but in my experience, this may lead to a bootloop *Don't worry, it's fixable*. So, I recommend you lift off both and then immediately start clicking the power *again* and volume up) This should bring you into the system recovery menu. Use the volume down key to scroll down, and the volume up key for up, the power button is to select the option in the menu. Scroll down to "Wipe data/factory reset" and select it. Confirm when prompted, and it will reset your device using the firmware you just installed.
29. Setup as usual, enable the Wi-Fi, double check that OEM unlock is still enabled and grayed out in the developer menu (you will have to re enable the dev menu). Then go to Chrome, type in "Root checker apk" and download the apk, should be available in the first or second result of Google. MAKE sure to allow Chrome downloads, it will prompt you when the apk is downloaded. Open it, and check for Root. This is when I got a pop-up from Magisk, but it may happen at any time. Whenever it happens, just follow its instructions, it will reboot your tablet, then when it's powered back on, go back to root checker. When you check for root, wait a couple seconds, a pop up should show up with a count down, allow it, and it will show that you...are now...ROOTED!
YAY, you did it congratulations. This took me probably 12 hours and many different forums, because there has been a great debate on how to do this properly, but from what I've experienced this is all the right info and guides shoved into one. Many thanks to the XDA forums, and especially user "tofor" on the XDA forums, for the patched boot file when people where still having issues making their own.
I may make a YouTube video explaining all this, but I'm not super into the idea. We will see, depends how this post does and if people still need help. Again, I'm not a pro when it comes to rooting. I'm a nerd, I know my way around tech, but I was an iPhone kid, so I grew up with jailbreaking, which was 100% easier cause most the work was done for you. That all being said, I'm sure I missed some terms, or dint explain something perfectly, so please, to all of you who are much more experienced with this, FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME!! Have any questions, I'll try to get to them, but I'm not super active. If I don't get to you, I'm sure somebody will. I really hope this helps; this was hell for me.
Great job on the guide! Worked perfectly for me on the 1st try!
Thanks for the guide, also there is TWRP out there now for this tablet

Notes: What's posted below is a work in progress, but it should suffice to unblock efforts to build custom ROMs for this impressive tablet. This is unofficial and unsupported, so the usual caveats apply. Since we don't flash the bootloader, you...

On step 25 for "Then give it a second to load in, move to the AP section. Select it, then find your boot.img" when I try to add the boot.img in the AP section it does not show the boot.img for me to select like it does with the other files.
Edit: I found out I needed to select the .tar and not extract and select the boot.img
Edit: Rooted doing what I need now! Thank you for such an awesome tutorial!
Sorry new to rooting here, for Step 8 do I need to go to the blue download screen for Odin to work? My odin is stuck on setupconnection
I only want to change the ''tap'' sounds when the display is touched. Do I really need to do all of this (root access) or is there an easier way to do that? This seems like a lot of work and I use this tablet regularly.
Hello and Thank you for your work.
Do you think your guide works for android 12? knowing that I found my version on samfw.com, namely the X200XXU1BVI6 version (CSC European Union). Thank you.

yes the only thing i did was
extract the boot.img from the tar
put it on my phone patched it with magisk
put the new patched file on my pc.
created a new ap tar using all the old files it had except i added the new patched boot.img
after all files are in i created the .tar
used the same BL_X200XXU1BVI6_X200XXU1B
used the new ar has all original files except the modified boot.img
used the same CSC_XAR_X200XAR1BVI6
it worked super su says its rooted. been at it all morning coudl not have done it without this guide
Got as far as step 28, where things went a bit off.
After the download from odin was complete, the device immediately shut down and starting going through a bootloop without me having touched power or volume at all.
Then after getting into the system recovery menu and doing a factory reset, it didn't reset the device with the firmware and when trying to power it on it just remained in the same bootloop as before doing the factory reset.
I'm using the boot.img file with firmware EUX - SMX200XXS1BVJ1 which I'm pretty confident is the correct version as it matches the build number on the device.
This is what I get on the system recovery after doing a factory reset.
at step 28 your supposed to
"Wipe data/factory reset" and select it. Confirm when prompted, and it will reset your device using the firmware you just installed.
it reinstalls the tablets new firmware
edit - it wont just start up the tablet like everything is brand new out of the box. thats why you need to "Wipe data/factory reset
I did factory reset. That's what produced the lines after -- Wiping data...
After factory resetting it doesn't seem to install anything and just goes right back to the system recovery menu. Rebooting the device at that point just has it going back into a bootloop.
Got it working.
Had to redownload the firmware from step 8 onto the device and then use magisk to make my own boot.img
Things to note in case anyone needs them is that the file magisk makes might not be called boot.img, in which case you do need to rename it to boot.img for it to work and also if you get stuck with being unable to access the download mode on your device, you can use FRP HiJacker to fix it.
I'm also stuck on "SetupConnection" in Odin. I enabled USB debugging, but that didn't seem to help.
Worked, thanks for this tutorial and your work with it.
regards
mkpcxxl
Hello, I conjured up the Android 13 on the A8 today. But unfortunately I can't get it rooted. The root checker says it's not rooted. What do I have to do to make it count as rooted again?
I got it solved myself and now have Android 13 on Samsung A8 (x200) and rooted :-D
Worked for me.
I initially had issues and thought I had bricked it, but a combination of Odin issues and possibly cable/bad firmware issues caused the problems and not this guide.
Nice one.
