Building a remote team quickly - General Topics

I am a developer who recently started working on my own, and I've come across some projects that I can't handle by myself (mostly in React). Does anyone out there have any experience with building a remote team in terms of what has worked well and what hasn't? I have some suggestions already, but I want to see what people have had success with already. Thanks!

I can suggest a Polish company called 300Brains.
I have worked with them and they do a good all-around job, and they have a good program to cooperate with US and European developers (I would link to it here but I'm new here and the site won't let me post a link). Not sure how much you know about Poland as an offshoring destination but it's rising fast.

wm6 by phil or by challhsu?

so you guys. vote which one you think is better at the moment.
and why?
Well you know which way I'm going to vote
Phil
i know you do. just trying to see what the users think about them, now that we have more than one.
And a tie?
I am using the last version of challhsu with the extras of Phil. I like much the last one of challsu, but it has much memory occupied with the Chinese sources that I do not need. In addition, she is slower in the starting and seems less fluid (at least when installing to it xt9 and other applications in English or Spanish).
I like the one of Phil, but for me it has a very important problem: It does not have services STK and I need them for my dual sim. If it corrects this and some other cochair in the beta version, insurance that I change me her to save memory.
And…
Very many thanks to both equipment for the excellent made work and to share it with the community.
It does have STK services i think.... Check the /Windows/ folder, I may have forgotten it while writing initflashfiles.dat

Now I have the challhsu rom. And I will hope to your new beta version to return to change (too many flashes in these days).
The 5 days that I walked with your ROM, I made a lot of softresets and searches by “stk” in the registry and in archives, but did not even appear to me nothing. It is certain that I did not look for "initflashfiles.dat", but as I did not find anything, and nobody responded here, I thought that you did not give importance to it. Surely that in the beta version, you will remember. And you will recover a faithful supporter. (Just in case, I also remembered you it here ).
Greetings and spirit.

I'm sorry to see that some are taking this as a competition. :-(
Both ROMs are result of a huge personal effort of their creators, and both deserve our deepest respect and support.
Let's please take it in a more colaborative way. Everybody will bennefit from the shared knowlege from these "masters".
Cheers for challhsu and Phil! ;-)
Keep the good work guys. Thank you for both your effort.

Ditto! Amen brother.
I appreciate the courtesy and the effort of good souls from this forum who sacrifice their precious time for the rest of us. Thank you very much guys (and maybe gals ;-))! Well done!
that would be a good idea! do both of the creators think that a collaboration between them would help bring out even better roms and even faster?
I don't think we would/could create a ROM together (timezones etc) but I do think that us sharing idea's etc between us will benefit everybody as a whole. If challhsu asked me for advice on how to do something i would gladly share with them, doesn't cost me anything, and in the end, we all benefit
Phil
There is no point creating this topic, it depends on users preference, as both phi l and challhsu continue to develop their ROM, it would just get better and better.
However, I truly appreaciate both of them for their hardwork. To me, both you guys are the best. No one is better than the other
Yea, both Guys (or teams) are nice...and do a good work. And more Developers =>more Alternatives...and everybody have different needings.
Still waiting for the Ultimative SuperPerfectRom for SmartPhone... but i dont know how it looks & feel..
Sancta Maria Mater Patientiae (ma quantae patientiae)
…ora pro nobis…
To seeing.
Nobody is going to leave littel morals advices and is going to think freely on which it seems to him each ROM, the comparative improvements that would implement and advantages of each one?
If saints us allows it, to me it would enchant to me to be able to follow a testing debate “collaborative” and contrasts between the two roms that allows:
- To improve both.
- To help to decide as will be more effective for the new people whom they wish to change the ROM or, even, for us when our necessities change.
- To generate different rom versions, adapted to the most frequent necessities (by profiles?).
- To help both teams to take the best decisions.
- And a long list of others of advantages.
Of course, if someone feels offended, that does not go this way. That here we are all very thanked for to both equipment and nothing else far from our intention that “to judge them”.

Website ONLY with/for ROMs!

Hi folks,
It just came up in my mind. You ALL cook great ROMs! Some with more features, some with less features, different "tastes", different colors. Still you are ALL great and I really appreciate your work!
If somebody would make a website where you can host FOR FREE all your ROMs, keep an archive, give you the opportunity to post/host your ROMs directly by you (not some guy posting ROMs from different sources), would you be interested? No spam, no blinking ads, no timed-downloads, no download limit, etc.
I didn't found ANY website "specialized" in ROMs but I'm willing to make that for free, because this is my job (code websites). I'm thinking at ranks, comments, categories, etc. For sure, the discussions will be made here on XDA, but for some reasons I feel the need of an "index", where you can just open the website and see the latest ROM made by your preferred chef, in a "non-forum" view.
Still, I don't want to work 2-3 days for something that you - that are the heart of this "ROM cooking world" - wouldn't use/like.
What do you say? Anybody interested? It sounds very interesting for me!
P.S. for moderators: I know that this topic should be in the "general" section but I've opened it here as most of the chefs kinda read only this section of the forum. Thanks!
Do you mean something looks like this?

No, something totally different, where each chef can post its own ROMs and all the files/articles are published in a "news-like" website.
Why would we want to keep up stuff in two different places?
Its tough just keeping up with one forum! I dont think I want to deal with two of them!

I'm not talking about DISCUSSIONS, just about files. Like keep all the files, of all ROMS, in one place, with the opportunity to vote the release, comment (not discuss!) it, find older files, etc.
For me, as a visitor, is hard for me to read 200-300 pages of discussions in order to see what's the latest build, what modifs does the latest ROM has, etc. If that ROM would have an "older"/anterior post, I could see what was in the old ROM and what's in the new one. All this in a more "web-like" way, without digging in a forum.
im keeping my roms on xda as usual, but i dont mind if you want to post mirrors on your site
if it's worth anything, I think it's a good idea

I agree its tough to find what you want in this forum! But who is going to maintain the website? I think its a good idea too! But who is going to do it? I know fi1p does that on his own, and there is one more person that I know of who does that too.

If you read my first post...I'll do everything, because I owe a webdesign/webhosting company, so making a website is not so "rocket-science" or me.
I kinda have some spare time this weekend so the idea was to use this spare time to make this website.
As at least 3-4 of you find this idea interesting...I think i'll do it.

Yeah, but some of us (including me) are from Europe, so a US domain would spoil some google rank and search results...
htcroms.org (organization?)
htcroms.info (the cheapest)
htcroms.mobi (the "mobile" one, same price as .org)
htcroms.biz (it's not a "show-biz" website so this is kinda inappropriate)
.org and i'm with the other chefs i'd keep me roms here but if you want to post info on your web then feel free

htcroms.mobi because we talking about a mobile phone
htcroms.mobi
htcroms.mobi - my vote !! It's good.
So
.org - 2 votes
.mobi - 2 votes
Other?
.net exists already
so .mobi should be best
I think .mobi is good for the topic so yea its a good idea.

ROM chefs who need hosting

I've created a new high performance hosting site for WinMo and Android custom roms. It is still however in beta but I expect that it will be finalised before the end of June
The servers (Yes I mean that in plural ) that are being used are located in Dublin, Ireland (My hometown) so as to ensure brilliant speeds for both the US and EU. This service is of course free however there are certain rules that must be followed to preserve the integrity of the site. For example, I will not be allowing full scale discussion like here on XDA to make it easier for people to navigate ROMs.
In any case, when you host a ROM on my infrastructure you get both regular HTTP download and bittorrent download as a backup so your ROMs will always be available. No more rapidshare! Devs get unlimited space for their ROMs and those with more than five distinct ROMs get their own subforum to release their ROMs on. Again, I would like to stress that the primary aim of this site will not be ROM development as is XDA or MoDaCo but it's aim is to be sooner or later the comprehensive database for custom ROMs on both Android and Windows Mobile.
In any case, the site's URL is http://www.smartroms.com I hope you do find it useful, if you encounter any bugs or the like please send me a pm and I will look into it
Nice idea. Good luck with it. I'm registering just now!

Can you let me know if the registration page redirects you correctly? I noticed a few times that it kept hanging on redirecting during testing but it disappeared after I made a few seemingly irrelevant code changes.
Anyways, give me feedback!
It redirected me fine. The only tiny thing I'd say is that once you register and you are redirected to the login page, instead of your username being pre-filled, it puts your email address in.
Some less 'savvy' people might stumble on that and wonder why they can't log in.
As I say it's no biggy but you know what some users are like

No bother. It might be a PHPbb thing. I used to run a PHPbb board many moons ago. They have changed a bit since then. lol
I really like the idea.
Thank you for providing a fast platform
Nece one, will check out soon. Thanks!
Sounds great, Roms with *****ing
Moved as not ROM Dev.
B.t.w already a hosting solution http://www.xdaroms.com/
Appreciate the offer and contribution.
Yup! A central place for finding ROMs should be brilliant.
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general

that's really bad... for a hosting site
I've been working all night migrating the server to vBulletin instead of the phpbb system it is now. That's why it's slowing down from time to time. I thought it would be safer to work through the night as less people would be accessing the site but I suppose I thought wrong
In any case the site is hosted across multiple servers for performance and redundancy reasons so when the site is finalised there should never be any speed issues.

[Q] Darkyy Rom ported to i5800, for 800€, who wants to contribute?

Hi guys
Darkyy is very busy doing his i9000 stuff,
but he is willing to do bit of overtime on i5800 if 800€ is collected.
Lets see who is interested in tasting bit of the dark(yy) magic
let's get SAMSUNG involved, they're paying € thousands every month for the crap we get
I pledge 10€, can't afford more as a student currently. Keep em coming, modding for the I5800 has to start

i dont think this is a good idea donations are to be given
this system becomes like a sale and its against the forum rules to do any sale on the forum
I do agree. I think people should not do things for money, that's not why we do things for.. And anyway, he can't do anything interesting right now, since we don't have 2.6.32 kernel sources..

Many interested hackers simply don't have a I5800, we can't expect them to buy it so I don't think donations are that bad. I'd prefer to give my money to gsam and precurse though Let's wait for 2.2 and see what can be done.

As far as I know Android (c) is for free. I'm not sure if this step is according to google policy. Anyway - thanks for the proposal - I would like to use stable and light ROM + I would like to choose what to install on it.
I like signatures like "you can buy me a beer". But I do not like "if 800..." anyway - you didn't input a time period ...

I just want Samsung to give me a light and stable 2.2 ROM - because I have paid for it. Plus Android is for FREE. So ? Will he share his income with XDA and Google ? If not then it's not nice.

hi
what is being asked here is like a sale being done ie it looks like asking a price for the services this is like a sale a donation is different it is given by one individual to another in appreciation of his work done and it is not asked as is the case here and doing so is against the forum rules & to my knowledge the I5800 is the cheapest phone in the market at least when i bought it it was
morality is a good think but a faster i5800 is an even better thing
I don't see anything wrong with motivating a very busy developer
for most people who can contribute,5-10€ is not the end of the world and they would rather pay this than having a crappy phone

8. Donations.
We appreciate all donations to xda-developers.com, it keeps our forum online and well maintained. As a user you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work. However donations up front are not allowed, this forum is about sharing, not about getting paid to do something, that's what your job is for.
