Huawei Mediapad stock ICS 4.0.3
Only real mod done Xposed Framework but no modules are active.
Any 3rd party app I try that uses the Google maps for it's map function won't show any maps in it.
Yet Google maps itself does. the Google is at version 6.6.
I know there's a newer version but when I update to that, when I try to open Google maps it shows a screen
that has a button "accept & continue". When I click it it shows a notification saying it can't connect to network yet everything else CAN connect to the network.
I don't really care whether the google maps works or not but I need it to work for where I do use it in the 3rd party apps.
Has anyone heard of this problem? Or has any kind of idea of what to do?

Just use "OSM" you ca download it using the F-Froid store. In my opinion google the maps ap is really crappy. OSM provides online + offline maps so you wont need a internet connection after downlaoding the maps you needs.
The app I use the most that uses maps is Waze and that has it's own map system but I do like to use other apps that use the google map service.
How would that F-Droid help? It looks like it uses some other kind of system. The other apps I use look like they call the google service.

OSM uses free "open source maps" that means O.S.M.
I can't seem to find this OSM or openstreetmap (which I see other apps referring to) on there anywhere to even try it.
Have you downloaded F-Droid app and installed it on your phone?

Oh, ok. So it works like the Xposed Framework.
Some apps are only available through this F-Droid interface itself then, correct?

You have to try it as I use another phone, but i install it always in that way no matter which phone.
I think I'll save that for a last resort
I haven't been having much luck getting things back to the way they were after I try something new.
If I can't find ANY other way to fix google's map service then I might try that.
Thanks.
Anyone else?

That means u use google's maps by choice? :crying:
I'm only using the google maps in the apps that call on google's service.
Waze it what I use most and it has it's own map system.
I want to save it as a last resort because I'm afraid of breaking anything else and not being able to get back.
Well I uninstalled the Xposed Framework and tested to see if that was what was doing it but it isn't.
So I put it back in.
Comeon! Someone has to have an idea on what could be causing it and how I can make the Google maps work right in other apps again.

Ok LS.xD, I did a little more looking at FDroid and from what I've seen it looks like it's kind of a separate market for apps.
If I were to install it would I still be able to use Play store?
And if I install it and find tha open street maps will that replace the ggogle map api service for 3rd party apps?
If it does and I eventually find a fix for the google api and decide I'd rather go back to that will uninstalling it return control back to Google?
I tried installing the gapps package for ics hoping that would overwrite whatever the problem is to no avail.
I've had over 150 views on this and no-one can give me any ideas?
What would you try if it were your device?
Hello everyone,
I'm using P40 Pro. I installed GMS before 3 weeks, it's working good for me. I don't get any GMS error notifications I did software update it's still working.
But I have problems with apps notifications, I don't get notifications for like:
-Twitter
-LinkedIn
-Workplace
-Spark mail
-Other apps
Battery opt. it's not a problem, I think it's a main problem with GMS.
I would like to know if there is anyway to get all notifications working normally? I don't want to use AuroraStore or freeze my GMS.
Or it's better to get back on stock HMS and use ACMarket, Apptoide, etc. to get my notifications working 100%?
Thank you.

Notifications are broken for many apps with HMS-naked install .. so it is far from 100%.
I am using HMS+microG and it fixes notifications with many apps ... but not all unfortunately ... maybe 60%
1. HMS-naked (broken notifications)
2. HMS+microG (notification fix – generally ok)
3. HMS+GMS (for google apps and broken notifications)
4. HMS+GMS+icebox (for google apps and notifications)

Download & install Huawei multi-tool on your computer: https://pro-teammt.ru/en/multi-tool-huawei-honor/
Connect your Huawei to your PC and open the multi tool.
Go to the "Modifications" tab

Why S20 Ultra 5G? That thing has so many issues with exynos and camera autofocus.
I got my Gmail working fine on my Outlook.
I'm a bit confused why some people get different results from GMS HMS + icebox
I'm pretty happy with the 2 setups, the only annoying thing is when I need to update my apps on aurora store it's not automatic. I have to grant install one by one ?

gmail isn't gonna work so use "Outlook" app or something else and add your gmail account there. Works great for me.
Playstore isn't gonna work if you freeze Google services Framework. Obviously. You gonna have to use Aurora Store or Apk Pure. The point of this operation (freezing GSF) is to get notifications working. I had problems with notifications when having BOTH Huawei Mobile Services AND GSF.

Too bad, i'd rather used Playstore due to purchases that i made using it. I would rather not having notification to avoid the hassle with in-app purchase issue
If you freeze gsf with MT8 and unfreeze it, are there any problems. I tried something like that, I had icebox installed too, and after unfreeze at 6AM in the morning I've got a train of non-stop notification that my device is not certified by google.
Was that a side effect of freezing or just my playing with the services too much?
@sheikgr is right. But I did it slightly different, before unfreezing in icebox i opened Google Play Store - From the left menu i choose Play Protect and I turn off that function at all. Then i did unfreeze. Gmail/Maps, GPS itself.. all works fine.
But if true is what @madmack is claiming, i think its better to keep services freezed and simply to use bluemail/outlook instead of gmail. Because even if gmail is showing notification its always informs much much later than it should

Hi, I have a problem with some location based app, like Tripadvisor, after unfreezing: in place of the map, I get the message "Play services are updating" and the app can't get position.
If I freeze, some apps ask to enable high precision positiong by google and can't get position as well.
Did you experience these bugs? Thx

Hey all,
I've successfully installed GMS using the method described on Youtube.
I've also frozen Google Services Framework using IceBox to enable push notification.
Now here is the last piece of puzzle: Google Maps Timeline doesn't work! With all possible GPS settings already turned on, Timeline is empty. As If I'm at home all the time.
Anybody had the same issue with the TimeLine?
Many thanks!

Do gps absed apps work fine after freezing gsf? Correct me if imwrong but the only draw back is lack of Google Play (paid apps if anything, since we can use alt stores)
Yes, other GPS apps are fine, its just the Google timeline that doesn't work or Playstore. I have 3 gps app screenshots attached and they all sow my location, maps, waze and here we go.

Thats perfect, i assume Uber works too? I can live without timeline tbf (though i wonder if timeline updates are captured if we re-enable gsf?), do the photos themselves store the gps information succesfully in the Huawei gallarey app? And i guess there are no issues if we reenable the service through the multi tool? Sorry about the million questions
Yes, Uber works as does the photo location, see below screenshots.
If you enable gsf for any reason, just disable it again after. I have had no problems but there was a report that someone did but i don't know if the disabled it again or what the circumstances were.

I can't get Tripadvisor to work: it asks to enable high accuracy and never get position. Do you have such a bug?
Hi,
Short story - I cannot freeze or disable google framework services
long. I installed google services on my device without knowing about icebox when I've got it. A few days ago a made the time to reset and start over(factory reset) and try the new version of installing google services but first I made sure to install Icebox and set it as owner (with the idea to freeze google framework services after I am done).
But Icebox cannot freeze it, I froze the huawei update service (to stop a stupid carrier update) so the app works.
I also tried Multi Tool 8, it sets gfs as frozen, but the service is still running ( I even get the Enable button in setting - apps) and play store is running as normal.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I have gfs frozen for the moment, I didn't unfreeze it to see if I get the google not certified.
I use Aurora Store to update, it works well.
Maps with timeline works.
Contact sync doesn't work, even manual sync fails, something went wrong when I installed google services, last install worked well, now it just fails.
I don't use Gmail, (use stock app - feeding data to huawei:silly - email with gmail have a delay.
I want to move away from integrated services like google backup or huawei and use third party - I was trying Backup Your Mobile -Artur Jaszczyk - but after a few runs it fails to start the daily autobackup even with battery optimizations set. I also failed to restore some contacts and sms after a wipe, had to use an older backup.
Still looking for a good backup third party solution (I miss titanium back that ran like clockwork on my S6)
A few days later, yes, freezing gsf will f**k up things, maps will stop working, some google apps will not update from aurora store, and unfreezing gsf will make app store start giving you non stop notifications that your phone is not certified.
Contact sync with google is not working any more (sync error), this will be the fifth wipe in 2 months. Samsung Note20 Ultra is looking nicer by the minute (can you still root those S20, N10 ?)

Freeze again GSF. Go to Aurora Store and update Google Play Services. Unfreeze GSF. Restart.
Everything will work perfectly, push notifications, banks, location, everything. You will only get those Play certified notifications(which are different from the other that say "require an action"). You disable them and you have a 99.99% perfect phone.
Also if contacts sync doesn't work then just install again the contactssync.apk(after clearring cache, data and uninstalling the old one).
*Finally, everytime you open Maps it will say "you don't have play services" but you just press ok and everything works fine.
Thanks for the info,
Fixed the contacts syncing app (Uninstalled and reinstall worked - only tried to clear cache before)
I froze GSF again, the only minor thing now is map timeline (sometimes it works) but I can live with out it.
Later edit - contracts tried to sync but failed.

I have a problem with apps which use Maps to show map inside them: these apps can get the map they need and there's the message "Play services are updating" in place of the map itself. One example is Tripadvisor, which can't show the map of a restaurant location nor get position.
Does this "Freeze. Update services. Unfreeze. Restart" solve this? Can you try and see if tripadvisor shows maps or can get position?
Thx

Yes If i freeze I get notifications
Hey guys,
So I sideloaded GMS on my p40 pro with redskull's instructions on youtube and didn't have notifications after that. Then used Multi tool 8 to disable gsf and then enable it again. Notifications came back, but location services aren't working correctly. In google maps, I have my location, but no arrow on the blue dot, so I can't see which direction I'm facing. Other apps that use google's location services don't work at all, they stall at "google play services are updating".
Is there a way to get location services in other apps working?
Thanks in advance!
disable Google Services Framework then works.
Thanks for your reply. I did that and it worked.
So now the play store isn't working. Are there any other disadvantages by disabling gsf?
If you need Playstore -> activate gsf then deactivate again
I don't know what sideload meant, nor why would you disable anything, but on my P40 I got maps and notifications working. I used another guide.

Any idea why Gmail notifications aren't working after disabling gfs?
Duplicate post
While we wait that @stewakg posts mentioned guide, disabling GSF still does not work for applications like Tripadvisor which require Google location precision to work. Such applications continously ask to enable Google precision and do not acquire position.
Any solution for this?
I am sorry all for late response.
This is guide I have used. I got European model bought in Germany. I have maps, play store with pay(can buy apps and games) and notifications.
Also I'd that helps, I got YouTube Vanced and microG installed.
Hope this will help someone. Cheers.

Okay, I got the apps I needed working with Google Maps integrated in them. Maybe this will work for you. (I am still having issues with notifications for many apps with GMS installed.)
I have a C636 variant running 10.1.0.131. I started by following Redskull's guide here: https://youtu.be/4vki3DasrYc
That mostly went fine. The Play Store was still a bit buggy and I was still getting lots of notifications about running Play Services on a non-certified device.
Once I installed everything I needed from the Play Store, I then used Multitool to disable Google Services Framework (com.google.android.gsf). While GSF is disabled the Google Play Store does not work, as most of your know. Google Maps integrations work in all of the apps I've tried so far: Lyft, Bay Wheels, Gig Car Share, Lime, Bird, Revel, Zipcar, Getaround, Flywheel, Transit, Swarm/Foursquare, and Yelp.
Notably, Spin does not work. It keeps telling me "For a better experience turn on device location, which uses Google's location services" and no matter if I hit No Thanks or OK, it keeps popping up over and over again making the app unusable. Bay Wheels has a separate bug where it cannot access the camera to unlock a bike, but it gives the option to enter the bike number instead so it's not a big issue. QR unlock works with Lime. That's all I've tested so far though.
Google Location Services does not work
No matter how you got GMS onto your Huawei Phone / Tablet that doesn't come with GMS, no matter what workaround you use to get everything working (i.e freezing GSF to get push notifications working), there doesn't appear to be any solution for GLS. It simply doesn't work. Any app that relies on it exclusively is broken. For instance Google Location Sharing, or Google Timeline. Probably others, but those are the ones I use the most. Google Maps, Waze, and other navigation apps will just use your GPS to get your location (which doesn't work if you're in an enclosed building with no view of the satellites). You can try to turn it on: Settings->Location->Location Services->Google Location Accuracy->Improve Location Accuracy, but it will turn itself off shortly.
My timeline works fine and "improve location accuracy" was on by default when I just checked. I even turned it off and on again and it stays on.
Mine works as well as does location sharing.

OK, that's great. Maybe you could tell me how you accomplished that? A working Google Location Services is probably the last thing I need to get going on my P40 Pro+. With GSF frozen, "improve location accuracy" keeps getting disabled. If I try to share my location, I get "Location sharing isn't enabled on this device. Fix", but Fix does nothing. With GSF unfrozen, I get a never ending stream of Google Play Protection messages (which can be turned off, but I'm sure still affect the phone), I can turn on Location Accuracy, but Location Sharing still says "Location sharing isn't enabled on this device. Fix" and a message "Unable to get an accurate location" when I press Fix even with a good GPS lock.
I didn't do anything other than follow the guide from 26th sept, I don't freeze play and canceled the notifications as per the guide. I also manually manage maps rather than let it be automatic.

With Google Services Framework unfrozen, Google Play Books no longer works. And even though Location Accuracy is enabled, I still get the ""Location sharing isn't enabled on this device. Fix" message when I try to share my location through Google Maps. Do you know what versions of Google Play Store, Google Play Services, and Google Services Framework you have installed? Are any patched or are they all unmodified Google apps?
