Notification LED on G8+ - Moto G8 Plus Questions & Answers

I know the notificaiton LED is designed by Moto only to indicate low charge etc, but is there any root-free option to get that light triggered at all?

Only root.

Huh?
A notification LED? no such thing on my G8+
charging, low charge or whatever, never seen a LED blinking...

Its there. Do a YouTube search. A user got it to work with a Tasker script

I was able to create a Tasker setup so when I get an SMS the LED will stay lit until I open that app.
To turn on the LED:
echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/charging/brightness
To turn off the LED:
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/charging/brightness
echo 1 to 255 for LED brightness
You can really use your imagination with this. I have it set to have a brighter LED when I receive a missed SMS. And a not so bright SMS for other related event.

I got it to work with rooted G8+ by using this guide

[REQ] Blink LED for notifications for more than 5 minutes

It's really bothersome on the EVO how LED notifications only flash for 5 minutes then stop. Would love an app that creates its own LED notification and flashes it indefinitely until viewed. I know there are other notification apps on the market, but I'd prefer one that doesn't try to create other notifications (in the bar, pop-up, etc.). Something that JUST does LED, so I can then turn LED off in Settings, would be preferable.
Also would be nice to disable the LED while charging, or to be able to interrupt it, but I have a feeling this couldn't be done through the SDK.

I'm glad you posted this gripe, I have always wondered how long it will blink the LED but never thought to stop and time the LED- I would always clear whatever alert out of habit.

I would love for someone to be able to figure out how to do that. Its just too damn bright if you are using the phone while its charging and the lights are out (for example using it as an ereader.)
I would like the LED to flash while charging for notifications, does anyone know what colors the EVO's LED can actually flash besides red, green, and orange?
I also would REALLY enjoy all of the previously noted requests. But I'd rather not root my Evo just yet...would it still be possible? (like, could this possibly just be an app?)

Light Flow App on MT4GS

I miss two things about my G1...dedicated number row and my LED that could flash multiple colors and would continue to blink until I actually acknowledged the notifiaction instead of discontinuing after 2 minutes. I don't really find that helpful at all for me.
I did find a decent enough solution to the latter with Light Flow.
To use the Light Flow App successfully on this phone I had to to do the following:
1. Be rooted of course
2. Run Light Flow in Compatibility mode.
3. Enable the mixer for all notifations that I want to be notified for. I cannot actually mix the Amber and Green to produce any more colors but with the mixer feature turned on, I am able to select one of two colors for Notification and then select whether I want the LED to Blink or be Solid for a notification.....
For example: with mixer enabled, I have SMS flashing green but I have emails coming in as solid green. I have have low battery blinking Amber but I have solid Amber for a missed call.
3. Disable all the notifations you do not want enabled. For example it comes with notifation for loss of signal enabled by default and if signal is dropped for a second it was continuting to blink until I went into notification.
Couple other items of note:
1. If fastboot is unchecked the Light Flow App will aquire root access on it's own after a reboot. (the led will blink until Light Flow aquires root acess) However, if I have fastboot checked and I reboot it seems like sometimes Light Flow won't aquire root access until I open the app once which will initiate it to aquire root.
I should probably add that my notifacation LED now blinks or stays solid until I acknowledge the notification which is a decent enough compromise for me although I would love being able to have more colors like on my G1.
I'll edit this I find out any more but I've been using it for a bit and it's working out ok for me so far.

Works great on un-rooted Galaxy Nexus as well, thanks for opening my eyes for this great application!
Thank you so much

Tasker - Turn ON LED

Hey guys.
I'm trying to use Tasker to turn on LEDs at my will. I have successfully used LED Notifications, but I do want to just turn it on.
In "Alert" there is an option called "Set Light" in which you can set a value between 0 to 255 to different parameters. None of 'red', 'blue' or 'green' seem to work. It does work in my XPeria P (LTi22), so I know that's the option.
Am I missing something? Has anyone managed to do this?
Thanks!!
P.S: For anyone wondering, a possible scenario is: I have a LED Notification set for when my phone is fully charged. Works well unless I already have my led blinking. In that case I miss it unless I manually unlock my phone to see if there's the "Charged" notification in my status bar. On my XPeria on the other hand, if there's any notification, Tasker will turn it off and then set the LED to a 255 blue.
No one? Come on guys, please!
As far as I know, this is a limitation of stock KitKat and the Nexus 5, which do not allow the LED to be in a constant 'on' state, only pulse. Also, it is based on notification priority, the first notification received is what the LED will show. And the Nexus 5 will not allow the LED to be on while the screen is on.
I have not been able to figure it out using Tasker, but I assume it would be possible with an Xposed module, if someone were inclined to write one for this purpose.

As far as I'm aware if the screen is already on the notification light will not work.
I couldn't get it to work at all, but in the end it is.
Not certain this works - but under your phones settings go to Accessibility and at the top you should see SERVICES section. Listed under there should be Tasker, set it to ON
Hopefully this works for you.

That is what already happens by default, why would you need Tasker to accomplish this?
Try lightflow app - it will cycle thru' the notifications, with different colors for different notifications (depending on how you set it up)
Ya. That's ok. But I wanted to set the notification light with tasker. I myself found the method for that. Thanks anyway!

I gave that as an example. I just wanted to know how to set notification LED for the notification from a specific app. That's it.

[Q] Disable S6 LED Charging Light

Does anyone know how to disable the red charging light on the S6 edge? I don't want to turn off LED notifications all together, just don't want that bright red charging light.
Try accessibility settings and turn on notification reminders I think that disabled the charging status.

Kind of a hacky work around but it totally works. Unfortunately I don't actually want notification reminders from all those other apps so I had to go through and turn them all off. Thank you!
Otherwise, just use Light Flow. It's great and let's you customize what colour each app has etc.

I was considering that but wasn't sure if LightFlow was working yet with the S6. Can anyone confirm that it does?
Sometimes the notifications would stay and not reset for mine on Telus. I'm using light manager and it's working great. I can't believe the lack of control for the LED on this phone...

Light Manager works for everything but charging status. I have contacts changed, call color changed, but for some damn reason the charging setting won't stick

Light flow actually works for charging status as well. I've set a red light with a custom interval of 50,10000. Basically keeps the light off.
I can't seem to fix this problem. None of the apps suggested here will turn off the stupid red light and the fix with notification reminder doesn't turn off the red light either. The only way I've found to get rid of the red light is to completely turn off the led light which isn't really a solution.

I have LightFlow installed and deleted the notification for charging. This made my light turn off when it's plugged in. If that doesn't work maybe set the notification, but set LED to off?

I used Light Manager. I hated both the charging and charged function. I Enabled the LED for both. Go to the Color selection and make a custom color. When you go back out to the HEX code selection, type in all Zeros. Should be Black. Save and test. Should make it go all quite.
I have the exact opposite situation: I would like to turn off all notifications LEDS but have the charge red/charged green light on (on my S6). I'm using Light Flow, is there an easy way to do this without manually setting it up for each individual app?
I came to the same solution as ChroniclesOfRedick:
Setting a custom color with 0x000000 and Priorty Low for the Charged Battery ist the trick with Light Manager!
Works with galaxy S7 and Android 7.

Is it possible to disable LED completely?

Recently I got a U11 and installed LeeDroid rom with root. Personally I do not like LED, and I wonder if it is possible to disable LED completely. I am aware that I can disable LED notifications sent by apps, but I could not find a way to get rid of LED alerts for charging and low battery warning. Or is there a rom that has this functionality?
Well, no way to disable LED? It's especially annoying at night...
a very black tape could help you out

Yes, https://www.google.nl/search?q=htc+.....69i57j0l2.6107j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
You can change when to flash and which apps will flash the LED when there are new notifications.
From the Home screen, tap > Settings > Sound & notification.
Under Notification, tap Flash notifications. Choose whether to always flash the LED or flash it only when the screen is off.
Tap App light notifications.

I know that setting. It is already set to "Off", so no app is flashing LED. My question was how to disable LED completely, even when charging.
