Tasker - Turn ON LED - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.
I'm trying to use Tasker to turn on LEDs at my will. I have successfully used LED Notifications, but I do want to just turn it on.
In "Alert" there is an option called "Set Light" in which you can set a value between 0 to 255 to different parameters. None of 'red', 'blue' or 'green' seem to work. It does work in my XPeria P (LTi22), so I know that's the option.
Am I missing something? Has anyone managed to do this?
Thanks!!
P.S: For anyone wondering, a possible scenario is: I have a LED Notification set for when my phone is fully charged. Works well unless I already have my led blinking. In that case I miss it unless I manually unlock my phone to see if there's the "Charged" notification in my status bar. On my XPeria on the other hand, if there's any notification, Tasker will turn it off and then set the LED to a 255 blue.

No one? Come on guys, please!

As far as I know, this is a limitation of stock KitKat and the Nexus 5, which do not allow the LED to be in a constant 'on' state, only pulse. Also, it is based on notification priority, the first notification received is what the LED will show. And the Nexus 5 will not allow the LED to be on while the screen is on.
I have not been able to figure it out using Tasker, but I assume it would be possible with an Xposed module, if someone were inclined to write one for this purpose.

As far as I'm aware if the screen is already on the notification light will not work.
I couldn't get it to work at all, but in the end it is.
Not certain this works - but under your phones settings go to Accessibility and at the top you should see SERVICES section. Listed under there should be Tasker, set it to ON
Hopefully this works for you.

That is what already happens by default, why would you need Tasker to accomplish this?

Try lightflow app - it will cycle thru' the notifications, with different colors for different notifications (depending on how you set it up)

Ya. That's ok. But I wanted to set the notification light with tasker. I myself found the method for that. Thanks anyway!

I gave that as an example. I just wanted to know how to set notification LED for the notification from a specific app. That's it.

[Q] Settings for Notification LED?

This is my first motorola phone in a longg time, so apologies if this is some well known thing.
Is there a way to change the settings for the LED?
I like that FB is blue and my texts are Green, but then my emails seem to also be Green... Would rather Gmail be red or something.
Thanks!

Where are the controls to turn on these light notifications (for received text, for example)? I didn't know the default settings used the notification light at all. If I had, I might not have gone looking for an app
To answer your question, there is an app called 'Light Flow' that allows you to customize the notification LED for different events. You can change things like colors and flashing speed for different app notifications (text, gmail, calendar notification, missed calls, low battery, etc) and also add other apps so that their notifications can trigger the LED.
There is a 'Lite' version of the app that is fully functional so you can try it out. I just started using it but I really like it so far.
No idea, mine were on by default haha.
But thanks! I'll go check out the app.
I don't think there is a way to control the LED without a 3rd party app.

Lightflow is awesome!
I now have my led turn orange when charging and green when charged! How did Moto forget something so basic?
Hi:
Thanks to Vector for pointing out Light Flow. Between the mysterious, single, unread text message imported from my old phone and all of the emails sent out by groupon et all in the middle of the night, the green light was flashing all night.Thankfully, Light Flow has a sleep mode that turns the light off at night.
I was ready to return the phone as it was keeping me up. Really appreciated!

[Q] Disable S6 LED Charging Light

Does anyone know how to disable the red charging light on the S6 edge? I don't want to turn off LED notifications all together, just don't want that bright red charging light.
Try accessibility settings and turn on notification reminders I think that disabled the charging status.

Kind of a hacky work around but it totally works. Unfortunately I don't actually want notification reminders from all those other apps so I had to go through and turn them all off. Thank you!
Otherwise, just use Light Flow. It's great and let's you customize what colour each app has etc.

I was considering that but wasn't sure if LightFlow was working yet with the S6. Can anyone confirm that it does?
Sometimes the notifications would stay and not reset for mine on Telus. I'm using light manager and it's working great. I can't believe the lack of control for the LED on this phone...

Light Manager works for everything but charging status. I have contacts changed, call color changed, but for some damn reason the charging setting won't stick

Light flow actually works for charging status as well. I've set a red light with a custom interval of 50,10000. Basically keeps the light off.
I can't seem to fix this problem. None of the apps suggested here will turn off the stupid red light and the fix with notification reminder doesn't turn off the red light either. The only way I've found to get rid of the red light is to completely turn off the led light which isn't really a solution.

I have LightFlow installed and deleted the notification for charging. This made my light turn off when it's plugged in. If that doesn't work maybe set the notification, but set LED to off?

I used Light Manager. I hated both the charging and charged function. I Enabled the LED for both. Go to the Color selection and make a custom color. When you go back out to the HEX code selection, type in all Zeros. Should be Black. Save and test. Should make it go all quite.
I have the exact opposite situation: I would like to turn off all notifications LEDS but have the charge red/charged green light on (on my S6). I'm using Light Flow, is there an easy way to do this without manually setting it up for each individual app?
I came to the same solution as ChroniclesOfRedick:
Setting a custom color with 0x000000 and Priorty Low for the Charged Battery ist the trick with Light Manager!
Works with galaxy S7 and Android 7.

Does Light Flow NotificationFunction for the LED's

I wanted to see if anyone is using Light Flow for your Led and sound notifications.
It works fine. Light notifications are turned off by default. I'm using light flow legacy
Thank you !
Just downloaded it and tried it...not impressed. The colors are a bit off. They were great on my S6, but it looks like the LED on the Pixel has some sort of filter or something over it and it dulls the colors.
Pixel has LED support by default. You don't need to use crazy hacks like lightflow to make it work.

You do if you want to actually customize it at all.
When I installed light flow. My gmail notifications sounds, lights and vibrate settings functioned as intended. I had many issues with getting full functionality with any of sms notifications. I contacted the developer about my sms notification issues and his replay with a work around works.
This can be used with any app, BUT YOU NEED TO FOLLOW EACH STEP FOR EACH CONTACT or Notification.
From the developer: 10.25.16
I'd recommend the following.
1. remove the contact specific notification you have set up and the standard text message notification.
2. get a text message from the contact you want specific notifications for and don't yet read it.
3. go into lightflow, notification settings and press "+" and select from all installed apps and select messenger.
4. Press "+" again and select from an outstanding notification and select the unread text message and select it and click add.
5. Find this notification and click on it (then press the pencil icon in the title to give it a meaningful name)
6. Enable the "notification person matches..." switch
7. Finally in notification settings click on the 3 lines with an arrow button at the top and drag the contact specific notification above the default messenger notification.
Messenger and be replaced with any app that you want notification from.

Replacing apps with ones that support the control of custom LED notifications isn't a viable solution for most people. How would you replace the Phone app if you want custom notifications for missed calls and voicemails?
You don't seem to have any interest in helping the OP, so I am done here.

It certainly is viable, especially when doing so increases functionality.
And yes, you CAN replace the phone application. There are HUNDREDS of alternatives.
Do we have to use Legacy?
I am using the regular one, and it is not working for me.
Did you have to set any special config options? In the device settings page?
Edit: I realized hiding notifications for LightFlow in the settings app (to hide the persistent icon) disabled the LED, so switched to legacy.

Ambient Display Customisation

Hello,
Since there's no more LED in the Pixel 3, I want ambient display to turn on when notification come in (as they normally do), but stay on till I wake up device and dismiss the notification, then turn off when there's no notification.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to enable this via tasker or any other app.
Is anything like this possible?
Thank you!
LED blinker pro has been talked about. Give that app a try.

That would be a great alternative to the always on display. I would love to know if there was a trick to make that work. Otherwise, yes, there are a bunch of screen led notification apps on the play store, but I haven't found any that play nicely with the default lockscreen. Some notifications work well, others dont. Give it a try though.

Yes you can do this via tasker.. in fact the latest versions have it built in.. just look under settings for "custom setting". Click the little search icon under name and it will help you find it by toggling it.
I just set it to enable ambient when a notification comes in and then turn the screen on once (you can turn ambient on when the screen is off, but it wont actually work until the screen has turned on once), and disable it either when the notification is cleared, or when you unlock the screen. Seems to work well...

I just want to:
- Thank you for the idea. I was a little bit concerned about the lack of notification led, and also didn't like LED Blinker Pro and similar...
- Note that actually you don't need root to let Tasker toggle Secure Settings... You just need to grant Tasker permissions to change Secure Settings via adb (tasker help guides you to do so). It was quite straighforward, and now my phone acts exactly as I wanted!
Thanks again.

I have root - but can you please explain how you got tasker to do this for you. I haven't used tasker since the Android 2.2 days so I'm basically a newb. Or, I think you can simply export your tasker profile so I can import it directly. Whichever is easiest for you.
Well... my profile fits my needs, but may not fit yours... Also I must do some fine tunning, as it stills doesn't act as I would love. Sometimes AOD is not deactivated, and I must find why. But 90% of the time it's working Ok.
Anyway, I PM you my config so you can test it.
Let me export and send it to you.
You can enable ambient display to show when you get a notification through System > Display > Ambient > New Notifications.
I've just created an app called Pixel Pulse. I could use some testers if anyone is willing to give it a try. You can select the apps you want to have the app pulse your Ambient Display. There's paid customization for icons and colors but the core functionality of the app is free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
If you had previously purchased Ambi-Turner, it has been updated for the new permissions, but because it was written for 8.0 and when Google's ambient display worked differently I decided to leave it as it is. You may however transfer your purchase status of Ambient Display to Pixel Pulse using both apps.

This is not the issue, we're trying to replicate the functionality of the LED pulse so that we can see missed notifications. Ambient display only wakes for a few seconds and then never again.

I was talking exactly about that when I told you to customize to your needs. In my "ON" profile, I just want some apps notifications to trigger it. If you can't deselect some apps, you could try to open the .xml file with a text editor before importing, and delete them there.

Doesn't really work on my PIxel 3a XL (Android 10).
Pixel Pulse is installed and enabled, battery optimazion disabled, Pulse interval set to 8s, gmail and WhatsApp set to "Pulse" and "Show All", Display > Lockscreen > Always on disabled and Display > Lockscreen > New notifications enabled.
But does not pulse. New notification is shown for some seconds (like without Pixel Pulse), after hiding, maybe the pixel pulse notification will show up one or two times (but faster than 8 seconds!) and after that nothing more.
AmbiTuner also doesn't seem to work.

[APP]AMOLED Notification Light "NotifyBuddy"

Original Thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/themes/app-amoled-notification-light-t3943715
So I was annoyed not having an LED notification light on oneplus 6t so I tried to make one of my own.
As OP6T has amoled display whenever a desired notification comes the app brings in a black screen with notification LED looking animation.
Though this is tested on OP6T, it should be working for most Android Oreo and later phones.
To use it:
Install App.
Disable Ambient Display and any battery optimisation for the app.
Give notification access permission.
Select apps you want notifications for, by choosing a color (Only apps you set a color to enables LEDs).
Note: 1. On successfully selecting a color for an app the text in which the App name is written should change to that color
2. Don't enable the LED for the "Phone App" as it will interfere when an incoming call is coming! Will fix this in next build
Thats it.
Note: To turn off the LED and to unlock phone double tap anywhere on the screen.
Also on pressing power button once the LED stops and on pressing it again it will bring you to lock screen.
App now available on Play Store, please rate and share if you liked the app.
Play Store Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xander.android.notifybuddy
Working Video: https://youtu.be/vFKiHS_ZD-k
If the app is not working check whether the Notification Service is running under Developer Option > Running Services, this service is required for the app to work as intended.
If it is not running after various troubleshoot measures, maybe send the logs.
Changelog:
Implemented burn in protection
Fixed proximity sensor bug
Switch enables LED with default color
Added search functionality
Now App list is sorted in alphabetical order
Fixed power button
Added settings for changing time interval and stop timer
Major bug fixes
Added System Apps
Added a switch to turn on/off notification LED
Give your feedback!!
It would be cooller if it would use the edge lighting.
Great app, love the simplicity.
Is there any way to show the notification first (like stock configuration) and then show the flashing "LED" after a few seconds?
Nice app. Been using since release when I saw it on the OnePlus 6t forum. Only issue is when you dismiss the notification (double tap) , screen goes into full brightness first before dimming down. At night, it's hard on the eyes. Hope you can fix it (add auto brightness support so it follows the screens brightness after unlock). Cheers mate and keep up the good work.
Good to see your thread here for OnePlus 7 Pro! Cheers
working thx ?
cut u get it to work wiht eged light??
Nice! It working good!
"Is there any way to show the notification first (like stock configuration) and then show the flashing "LED" after a few seconds?"..also my question..
Sometimes the LED flashes even if there is no notification
This is AWESOME!!! Could you make it so that
1: It doesn't flash the white bar across the bottom first
2: not go full brightness?
Thanks
This is an awesome app. Would be amazing if you can use it with the edge lighting.
Brilliant, thank you. Gome through countless apks trying to get a notification led. Thanks
Oh, one more thing, would it be possible to add an on/off switch so you can easily turn it off if you don't want to use it?

I don't want to customize edge lighting. I just want to make it work as notification.

Great app, love the simplicity.
Is there any way to show the notification first (like stock configuration) and then show the flashing "LED" after a few seconds?

thats exactly what the app does. it lights up the edges of your phone for a notification and you can customize each color per app, etc.

Really? Mine doesn't. It just gives the blinking led at the top of the screen. Where's the settings to turn that function on please?

i'm talking about the app ALWAYS ON EDGE in the play store, which is the app i recommended because the poster i quoted asked for that function. so yes, the app always on edge in the play store will do what you want as well. it has a ton of options in the settings.
i also used this one notifybuddy
but went back to picel pulse untill this one support missed call's
pixel pulse works with orginal notification system
