Anyone building a custom rom? Will there ever be one? - Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite Questions & Answers

I recently got this phone for €310 during my student exchange. (Erasmus) I think I did my research pretty well and decided this phone would be the best pick for me. However, there is no custom rom and pretty much no one is talking about the phone at all, let alone customization of it. Custom roms are kind of a deal breaker for me, so do you think buying this phone was a mistake, or is it too early to judge?

And I expect to have custom rum soon (xiaomi.eu). I hope I'm right.

at the moment there are no kernel sources for mi 10 lite, we will have to wait a little bit longer

There is already rom for mi 10 lite 5g https://sourceforge.net/p/xiaomi-eu...ty/?page=0&limit=100#5efc51c58a699d0b315a30f4

Inquiries about the Mi Mix 2s.

Hello I am interested in buying the Mi MIx 2S 8GB 256 GB, but I have a few concerns.
1- i found this out on frequency check:
frequencycheck.com/carrier-compatibility/Y0VKtoe/xiaomi-mi-mix-2s-premium-edition-global-dual-sim-td-lte-256gb/etisalat-egypt
I would like to know if its true or not, that it wont support LTE band in my country ( although the band is listed in the Device description)
2-Do you have any idea when to expect a global rom ?
3-I am buying it from JD.com - Because AliExpress and Gearbest are very pricy. So i was also wondering if it would be easy to install Google services and use the phone normally and get rid of Xiaomi bloatware or some of it at least, until global rom is available.
4- Is it true that It should be easier to make custom roms and thus installing them for this device, wouldnt have to wipe phone every time i do so, or ??
5-What are Mi Mix 2S Daily MIUI Builds that i found here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-mix-2s/how-to/mi-mix-2s-daily-emui-builds-t3775064
is it worth it or waiting for an official global rom is a better alternative ?
Thank you.

1. Can't help you there sorry:/
2. As soon as they start to sell it officially in countries outside China, I don't think there's already a date for that
3. Yes, it's easy, you can read about it in the xiaomi Reddit wiki here. lots of information there for other topics too
4. I think it should be easy because of project treble. My current understanding is you only have to wipe the phone completely if you go from miui to a aosp or cm based custom rom or the other way around, if you flash for example resurrection remix and then want to flash omni rom you don't have to do a full wipe
5. I don't know about these daily builds but I will test them as soon as I get my 2s
You can (according to stuff I read in other forums) use the chinese rom without any issues if you install the playstore and so on described in 4. I will do the same

I didn't quite understand the part Resurrection remix part? what is that ? Could you explain a bit more?
Also when are you expected to get your Mi 2s?

Resurrection remix is a popular custom Rom, that was just an example to tell you that you don't have to wipe everything when you go from one custom Rom to another, but a factory reset is, as always, recommended. Wiping the whole data partition is only necessary if you want to flash miui after a cm or aosp based custom Rom or flash a custom Rom when you are coming from miui.
It will arrive within the next 20-30days according to the shop it ordered it (tradingshenzen).

I never used it before but I checked on reddit and other forums and most of the people from germany buy on tradingshenzen because we get a 2 year warranty there. The price on gearbest will be lower in a few weeks for sure

You can try to use the code GBMBP on gearbest, on many phones you get some discount
Edit: Just checked it, seems like the code is expired
Frequencycheck has false info for Mi Mix 2S, claims it doesn't support any LTE bands.

I asked their local distributor in Egypt ( Although they don't exude much confidence, but they said for our 4G networks that seems to be the case although the bands of our LTE are on the lower models as well.
I am still debating it any way.

I tried to google a little bit and this is my conclusion:
These and these are the Bands used in Egypt and here are the bands supported by the mi mix 2s. According to wikipedia GSM 900 and 1800 are Band 3 and 8 and both supported by the standard version of mi mix 2s.
For 3g you need UMTS 2100 which is B1 and also supported by standard 2s and for LTE you need LTE B1 which is supported too. I'm not 100% sure about it, maybe just create a question thread on Xiaomi reddit forum to double check

Yeah those are the answers I found, But here in Egypt everything tech wise is a bit vague and no official website can be really trusted, which is why I didn't wanna risk it from the beginning ,but the price will probably lead me to that eventually If the flash sale plan doesn't go through.

Verdict about MiA2 Lite.

Hello! I have been using A2 Lite for about six months now. I liked Mi phones. But I think A2 Lite is not up to mark as per the price charged. Especially, Android One experience. It lacks lots of features as compared to other MI phones in this range running on MIUI.
What are your thoughts on this?

That's the point of this phone. Stock android with no features. That's why you do your research before buying something. You could've bought Redmi 6 Pro which is basically the same device with MIUI rom.

Some very basic features, like scheduling a SMS, adding speed dial number, double tap to wake etc. Its camera's hardware is good, but it's software is not.

So, why dont you try custom rom? Btw, sms scheduling works with non-native app. Dt2w - Iam using fingerprint unlocking, the fastest. And I dont think miui has this feature.

Redmi 5A and Note 4, both have Dt2w, and they both run MIUI.
I bought this phone specifically because it didn't have MIUI on it.
Stock Android, unlockable bootloader. It's the first phone I've had that gets security updates too.
I've had it for a few months now and I still love it.
MIUI suck, give so many features that u might never use.
Those features consume CPU and battery, while stock Android has lesser feature but any feature you want you can just get them from PlayStore.
My last Xiaomi phone (Mi 4i), became super laggy until cannot unlock the screen.
Turn out it was MIUI fault because it became normal again after I flashed it with custom ROM.
From my point of view it's the perfect Android terminal.
I only miss one feature from MIUI : Scheduled turn on and off :crying:

Try flight mode, almost zero consumption. -+1%/night
This phone absolutely lives up to its price point of the $159 I purchased two of them at. Great screen, great battery life, decent processor that can handle mostly everything except high end gaming, metal body, 2 of 3 American LTE bands for T-Mobile, FM radio, IR blaster, security updates monthly with Android One. MIUI is a dumpster fire and if you wanted MIUI you should've bought a Redmi.
It's a great phone.
I'm still wondering why so many people who prefer MIUI over stock android bought the A2 Lite instead of the Redmi 6 Pro which is even cheaper. Personally, I wouldn't even touch a MIUI phone with a pair of pliers.

I am one of the users who has the problem of slow wifi in 2.4ghz when the bt or gps is active. The problem arises from the month of December following the update to android P. From December to today Xiaomi has not produced any patch to solve this serious problem. For me this is a serious bug and leads me to say that it was not a good buy.

I flashed a custom rom on mine and have no such problem, actually no complains about the device. It's just hardware, with a proper OS on it (stock is never that) it works really good.
I bought this smartphone right after it was available version 4/64. I can tell is the best smartphone i never had, The best quality/price ratio, Battery last 9 hours sot, now you can install many custom rom, gcam makes photos great.... its fast and the display is great. Im totally satisfaited with this device. If you miss Miui than its you that bought the wrong models phone

[Mi MIX 3] MIUI 11 and Android 10

Hi, i think almost everyone here heard about the upcoming MIUI 11 update (rolling out from middle October in China). I'm pretty excited about that, but i have a question i cannot answer myself. Will the MIUI 11 come with the new OS Android 10 or will it come just as it is without OS update? I'm asking that because of two things:
1) I've read somewhere that Xiaomi already confirmed Android 10 for our device.
2) Instead the MIUI 11 Beta, avaible in China, is actually based on Android Pie
So...what are your toughts about that? Feel free to answer!

this is true for beta version, (mi-Globe / EUROM)
yes im already on MIUI 11, but it still based on Android 9 no doubt.
but the introduction of new features makes you want to use this ROM more and more (personal opinion)
system-wide dark mode still misses some notif/popup windows (its still on light)
AoD new styles are great, very artistic
they said MiShare is faster, cant feel it. but its not slow. i think it feels the same as V10
and the other features were there just before we hit MIUI 11. I guess this would benefit the stable users more.
its actually not a night and day change. you kinda appreciate those little adjustments. icons, stuff like that. not much for themes tho
its one of those regular updates that you want to jump into. and yea its kinda pretty cool.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I'm sure i'll like it too! Just hope they'll push Android 10 before Android 11 lol. I'm okay with Pie, it works good and has a HUGE amount of apps and will support them for long time for sure. On the other hand, this device in Global version was born with Pie so...would be nice to see at least one major update. I've heard somewhere that Xiaomi launched Mi MIX 3 with Oreo in China so basically Android 10 would be the last OS update even in EU/Global version because of some strange thinking about their update politics

This is so true. I've learnt the lesson with Honor 8. They wanted to kill the device but after a lot of time and people's petition they finally released oreo. Now i'm at the first experience with Xiaomi but as i've read around they're used to update frequently their devices. Don't know so much abouth their policies about updates though, so we can say i'm just hoping that the "Two major updates" rule will be followed

It usually gets to a point when a device is dead unless community keeps it alive. And that is awesome. I actually choose my devices partly attending to their development support. I still have my old hammerhead, 5 or 6 years on, and it is running nice pie roms and surely some 10's will come. Last google firmware is marshmallow. That is really cool
Still, of course it is good and nice that a newish devices keeps being updated by OM.
In my case, more than android version I wish xiaomi updated kernel source, but that is way too far fetched I'm afraid.
Right now I'm using MIUI 11 9.10.11 beta version and it's based on Android 10. I'm on the MIX 3 Android 10 close beta group and get updated everyday. This rom is quite stable and the only bug I found is the incorrect display of RAM which has no influence on my daily using. Magisk worked perfectly and I got 68HZ display so smooth XD.

China vs Global ROMS

Hello. Im planning to upgrade my phone to a 'gaming phone'. Which as follows:
Red Magic 6, Lenovo Legion Duel 2, Xiaomi mi 11 Pro, Asus ROG 5, Black shark 4 pro?
The main problem is with software updates. From what I can find online, about 3 of the 5 phones listed, have really bad support. Pretty sure some older models are still stuck on android 9 and 10 on the global versions. While on the CN version, they are regularly updated.
So I was wondering if I could use the CN ROM instead, if support for the global ROM dont exist. If anyone with experience could share the pros and cons or insights, it would greatly appreciated.
Sorry if I sound really noob, because when it comes to mods and stuff, I have no experience at all. I would have gone the easier route with samsung, but these phones have specs that I am interested in trying out. Just that it would suck if I missed out on future android updates, like android 12 or something.
Thanks yall.

I think global roms are better than China roms here's why
First reason why global roms has google apps pre-installed
While china roms only have google apps installed on older china roms devices the newer phones with china rom does not have google apps pre-installed u could try flashing a custom rom to get google Apps pre-installed but I don't know exactly if it's gonna work
Second reason why global rom Is better is the bugs
On china rom their more bugs than global rom
Third reason why it's better is how it feels global roms feels better than China roms because global rom feels faster than China rom

LineageOS

Hello,
I wanted to see if anyone made LineageOS work on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra SM-N986U1. I would consider it a nice replacement phone for the ZTE Axon 7 I have currently but I can't find anything so I am posting here. I currently have the DooGee S95 Pro that I am trying to get the LineageOS GSI of LineageOS 18.1 running but it won't boot.
Thanks!
Good question, wrong thread man
Oh sorry what place should I post it then?
Don't get this phone if you want custom ROMs. I couldn't get Lineage GSI to work but if you can then it's not going to be as good as Lineage built for the specific device.
OnePlus 9 Pro or even literally anything else would be a better choice.
Hello,
Hardware is better than the DooGee S95 Pro by a lot, I can get the GSI to load on the DooGee S95 Pro and wanted this phone because the bootloader is unlockable and we can then have custom rom. I like this phone because 5G, SD card slot, Note series with Stylus, wireless charging at 15w, NFC, and really nice screen. Any recommendation on a better phone then? I am running LineageOS on the ZTE Axon 7 and havent found anything better... sadly.
Apparently the OnePlus 9 Pro doesn't have an SD card slot, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has pretty much every great hardware feature I could want ( no mention of a notification LED but yea ) but no mention of good software like LineageOS on it... Q_Q
So nobody's going to port over LineageOS? Too bad.
get a xiaomi if you want custom roms man,.i had plenty on k20pro
I was working on it for a bit but i cant get 18.1 android 11 to boot. it goes straight to bastboot. ive spent hours on it but no luck. 17.1 i got going but ril is all borked, no wolte (which i guess is a samsung wide thing with LOS so i dont know if it is even fixable) no 5g and because lte doesnt work phone calls drop to 3g AND SMS only works on EDGE connections lol. then i got bored and have been playing with smart home crap but thats a story for another day lol. its sad but i think the custom rom scene is dying. its a shame really. all us developers made imprvements and then the big companies copied them and now no one except the REAL nerd hard core users feel the need to root or flash a custom rom on their phone. years ago it was almost a requirement to have a good experience on the device. hell los invented the notification quick tiles.. anyways i had 1 to many beers and went on a tandget there sorry, i'm going to bed now.
if anyone feels like it my WIP tests are on my github
github.com/Albinoman887
its a huge mess with many branches for each repo that are just tests or crap or dont even compile with non descriptive names for comits and stuff but there things that are worthy. (DUB3 kernel merge comes to mind)
I truly like LOS. If some developer could get a stable 18.1 version for the Exynos Variant, I would unlock my phone, and change the OS to LOS

Hello,
What's required to make LineageOS actually work? What help is needed? I'm not an android developer but it would be nice to know what I can do to help.
Thanks
P.S. I also have experience installing GSIs on phones and in my experience the GSIs won't load on Android 11 if it's either the wrong partition type OR for the Android 9 device I have it wouldn't load 11 if the bootloader code had been modified with Magisks and I had to put the boot code back to stock and then it booted so it might be something like that.
Hope that's a little helpful. I know this thread is getting old though...
