Floating Windows in MIUI 12 - MIUI Central

Among some of the many new UI features in MIUI 12, Xiaomi phones will be receiving updates to floating windows. Floating windows aren't a new concept in Android, but MIUI 12 brings some major improvements to this feature. The new floating windows can be accessed from your notification bar or recents menu. A floating window will put an app in a smaller window that can be seen layered over another app. In this thread, I'm going to show you the floating windows in action, and all the features they come with.
These screenshots show the floating windows being used in combination with different apps.

Accessing Floating Windows from Recents Menu
An easy way of turning your open app into a floating window is by opening your recent apps menu. Once you see the list of all of your apps, you can press and hold on the app until you see the additional options appear. From here, you'll be able to lock your app, launch in slip-screen mode, launch as a window, or access the settings for that app. The animation below will show you what it looks like to launch a windowed app from the recent apps menu.
Accessing Floating Windows from Notification Shade
Being able to launch a floating window from the notification shade is a much less-intrusive option. If you're watching a video or a stream, and you receive a notification, you no longer have to navigate away from your current app to check it. Press and hold on your notification to open that app in a window. Now you can respond to texts, emails, tweets, or calls, without interrupting your current app.
Floating Window Gestures
When you navigate to settings > Special features > Floating window, you'll find a list of the different gestures available.
These are the gestures that are available for floating windows:
Open floating windows
Moving floating windows around
Closing floating windows
Viewing floating windows in full-screen
Minimizing floating windows
This gifs shows the different gestures in action:
Split screen open and expand:
Launch floating window from recent apps:
Expand floating window:
Minimize floating window:
Floating Window Settings
MIUI 12 has a settings menu dedicated to floating windows. In this menu, you'll find options to view tutorials on how to use different gestures that will manipulate your floating window. You'll also find a section where you can toggle specific apps to use floating windows from the notification shade.

Annoyingly floating windows only works when you have the miui launcher set as default. if you switch to nova launcher for example it's no longer available.
On the plus side miui launcher is actually decent now as you can set Google discover as your feed and you can also switch to app drawer mode as standard.

I wish I could disable this pointless "feature".

I use nova launcher and the floating window feature and for me it works. I just had to enable MIUI optimization in the developer settings.

Hi I have a question. When I swipe notifications to bottom, floating window and app which belongs to swiped notification also open on miuı 12. This looks meaningless for floating window. does anyone have this problem

Omg, are you crazy? Floating windows are awesome feature! Even before, if you choose option to resize window in spite of manifest you could enable dual screen and use youtube (without background work) with any other application.
And now I can "float" any window, like game, support chat, delivery status etc.

Is there an option to quickly return to home page? Quick navigation and quick bookmark access is what keeps me using Miren, but that browser hasn't been updated in ages.

Great idea! Thanks. Will look into it.
Update
Beta 1.0.1
releasing the tab quick control will now bring up the standard window with open tabs in which you can close tabs by swiping them "away"
fixed "find on page" menu item text
It seems to work pretty well on my GN running the Revolution HD rom. The ONLY issue I see is that either the unused space in the controls need .. controls or needs to be made transparent. The shadow close to the edge of the screen where ones finger is ... is a bit ugly. But since it's a beta ... FRIGGIN awesome job!
Running great on my GN
Can I reguest a feature? Custom UA-string would be a killer feature
Edit: another feature request: custom download folder would be great also.
Works on my GSII with CM9 (4.0.3)

I would like to request the ability to permanently set all webpages to be non-mobile.
Works fine on HTC Desire running latest ICS 4.0.3.

I've been really wanting more Quick Controls, so this is fantastic so far!
I do have a few thoughts; hopefully you'll find some of them worth doing:
1) Could you provide an option to use the volume rocker for other uses like page scrolling or tab switching?
2) A very minor point that drives me crazy is that if I select the menu option from the quick controls, the pop-up menu list always pops up on the left side of the screen -- it'd be nice if, when I use the quick controls on the right, the pop-up menu list (i.e. the option I get when pressing your "!" button) would pop up on the right so I could easily reach it with the same finger/thumb I used to activate quick controls.
3) I'd love a quick way to access notifications when full-screen browsing -- perhaps something in quick controls or the pop-up menu to pull down the notification shade -- or maybe even better, an option to launch an application from quick controls or the pop-up menu (since I could then use something like status bar expander to pull down the shade).
4) Some sort of quicker toggle for inverted screen -- I like the black background for battery savings on AMOLED screens, but it's annoying how it also inverts pictures. So, if I want to quickly see a picture displayed properly or if a page just doesn't seem to be displaying properly when inverted, it'd be nice to have a quick toggle to take me back to the normal state instead of having dive down into accessibility options.
5) I suspect this might be difficult -- but I'd like to have the option to customize the tab that gets focus after closing another tab (like in Tab Mix Plus for Firefox). Right now, I'll sometimes open 5-6 tabs in the background from a single page. I'll go to one of the pages, read it, then close tab and end up back at the original page. Then I'll have to switch tabs back to one of the other background-opened tabs and repeat the process -- taking up extra time, even if I use the tab switcher instead of using the X or back button on the quick controls. Instead it would be nice if after closing a new tab, I go directly to another of the new tabs, until all the new tabs have been closed and I'm back to the page from which I opened all the new tabs. I guess a tricky part is keeping another desirable behavior -- when opening a link from Gmail for instance, closing the linked page should still bring you back to Gmail.
6) This is probably something that requires root and even then I'm not even sure if it's possible -- but it would be super-cool if you could add extra browser buttons to the soft menu area on the Galaxy Nexus -- an option to put a frequently-used button like a refresh button or bookmark button or whatever.
Suggestion: Some way to close all tabs quickly. When I reach 16 tabs, swiping all of them closed is a pain.
Any words on why all the permissions are needed?
I'd just like to know before installing.
Nice job, I was just playing on my transformer and thinking having this would be nice.
One thing that would be a great feature would be an option to hide the Galaxy Nexus navigation buttons at the bottom. You would need to add a home button to the quick controls, so not sure exactly how hard that would be.
Small Beta 1.0.2 Update
* added option to set the User Agent String (Settings -> Advanced)
* cosmetic fixes: new icons, removed background controls (see screenshot1)
* switched the "add new tab" control and the "show tabs" control for easier access
BTW the option request desktop site is still used. Selecting this option will toggle the User Agent setting for the current tab. All pages loaded in that tab will listen to the new setting (this way one can set a tab to load mobile pages when the default user agent is set to desktop or vice versa.
Thank you all for the feedback!! I certainly will use a lot for the upcoming version. Great suggestions.
great work appelflap. thank you man!!
when i have auto rotate on and switch between portrait and landscape mode the webpage reloads. is this a bug ?
when you view a flash video (plugins on demand) in portrait mode turning to landscape mode reloads the page and you must start the video again..
Thanx for the great app, works perfectly on Galaxy Nexus.
Would it be possible to add an option, that clears cache and history automatically whenever I am closing the browser? This is something I am definitely missing on most mobile browsers.

I use a virtual trackball app on my galaxy nexus. Is there a way to add cursor support into this browser app? Thanks.
Not working on my Galaxy S2.

Hello everyone. Swipes is my new app that replaces my old app Kakudo. I felt I should create a new thread because the app is 100% completely build from scratch and many of the features have been changed. As a thank you to everyone who supported Kakudo, if you had previously bought Kakudo Pro you get the entire complete unlock of Swipes for free. All you need to do is have Kakudo Pro installed on your device and Swipes will unlock for you.
Anyways here's what it does:
Swipes brings faster app switching and multitasking to Android. With Recent App Cards you can change between your recent apps with a single swipe from the edge of the screen faster than any other way. The Favorites drawer let's you add your favorite apps, toggles, actions, widgets, and shortcuts to have access to them anywhere and anytime while using your device. When upgraded you can create as many Favorite Lists as you please and with up to 8 different swipes you have easy access to all of them. With the Quick Launch feature you can add your most used app to have it 1 swipe away at anytime.
The free version includes access to the Left and Bottom Left Swipe areas for a total of 4 swipes. With a one time in-app purchase you can unlock the Right and Bottom Right Swipe areas for an additional 4 swipes. The free version also restricts favorite lists to Apps, Toggles, and Actions.
and why it's different:
Gives you 3 options for the side areas. Allows for multiple areas to be active at once. Multiple favorites lists. Faster app switching, instead of cycling through all your apps if you pass one you can go back and it's an easier motion to cycle through apps. Option to quick launch most used app. Recent App Cards look like they belong in android and not windows 8. Toggles indicate status.
I use this app everyday and the way I set it up is I have two favorite lists, one opens on the up swipe and the other opens on the down swipe. The regular swipe does recent apps cards. I mirror the functionality on the left and right swipe areas so no matter which hand I have my phone in, I don't have to reach across the screen with my thumb. One list contains the apps I use the most often including Chrome, Netflix, BubbleUPNP (for chromecasting), I put a brightness and toggle because I go in and out of the office frequently, I also put a direct call shortcut since I call work everyday when I am outside the office. My other favorite list has my morning routine apps in it so when I wake up I can quickly go through all the news and stuff.
Let me know how you end up using it and maybe I can add features to make it better.
Download here
Great Works. With both left and right bottom swipe area, plus diagonal side wide are the best upgrades from Kakudo!
I once experienced a crash (Swipes stopped) with the latest version of Dolphin Browser when doing diagonal wipe. But I cannot replicate the crash again so it could be a rare occurrence.
Highly Recommended!
It recently came to my attention that if you bought Kakudo Pro and download Swipes it may not work. I am working on fixing this but for now if you had previously bought Kakudo Pro you have to Uninstall it then install Swipes and open Swipes, then download Kakudo Pro and open Swipes. Everything works correctly if you do it this way. I am looking into why it might not work the other way.

UPDATE:
With the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop the method used to access recent apps has be depreciated and no longer works. Because of this the recent apps option in swipes will not function on devices running android 5.0 or above. In the next update for swipes this feature will either be changed to open the stock recents window or hidden on devices running android 5.0 and above. I do not know when I will release the update as I am currently working on all of my apps to update them for Lollipop as well as a new app.
I will continue to look for other ways of continuing the functionality of the swipe for recents if not for everyone who uses Swipes but for me as I still find myself swiping from the side to switch back and forth between apps while using Android 5.0

[APP][4.3+] New launcher for WeTek Core

If you wanna help debugging this new launcher I have created feel free to download it and report in this thread any error or crash you might experience.
In case of crash try to replicate it and, please, include logcat.
You can't use this launcher on the Play running WeTek OS because it requires at least Android 4.3 for the notification APIs but if you are using my CyanogenMOD build you can use it on the Play as well (but you might need to use a keyboard to access some of the functions since they are mapped for Core's remote).

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Instructions
Download the zip file containing the apk, unzip it and install the apk using your preferred method (using adb install, copying it to a MicroSD card and installing it using a file manager, etc.)
As very first thing allow the launcher to access the notifications in "Settings -> More Settings -> Sound & Notification -> Notification access".
I have created this launcher for being light and very easy to use, in fact using the Core you will do most of the actions using the * (star) button (if you don't have the Core's remote you can achieve the same with F6 button on a keyboard).
In the top row you have the notifications, you can click with OK button on them to open them in a popup or you can dismiss the selected notification without opening it using * button.
In the second row you have the highlighted apps section, the middle icon is the app drawer. From the drawer you can add the selected app to the list of favourite apps (the third row in the home of the launcher) by pressing * button, you can also long press OK to access to the app information menu where you can uninstall/disable the app, clean the cache or data, move the app to the sd, etc.
The third row, as previously said, has a list of favourite apps. You can re-arrange them by long pressing with OK on one of them (you will see that the app rectangle has a blue border, meaning it's been selected), moving to the position where you wanna put that app and long press OK again to swap the two positions (it's easier done than said), if you long press with OK on the same selected app it will clear the selection.
To delete a favourite app use the usual * button.
The last row has three icons, one for the connectivity (showing if you're connected by ethernet, wifi, or not connected at all) that will launch network settings when clicked; one that will launch android settings and another one that shows the weather and, once clicked, will show a popup with a 5 days forecast (from this popup you can toggle C/F degrees by pressing, guess what? * button

20151029:
- Added a colored circular reveal animation in the home section when interacting with objects that launch something
New version.
4.2
And for 4.2?
It is not possible because the notification listener requires 4.3, and integrated notifications is one of the best things of this launcher imho
This is what I want! Works on any android box?
Thanks for the launcher
the link is broken
I would recommend advertising this as a TV box launcher and keep developing on that niche. There are not nearly enough decent TV box launchers available. The one that Tronsmart uses is really good, but that's the only other one that I like. I didn't know what this was, but if people know its a TV box launcher they may be interested.
Launcher look fantastic, but link is broken. Please, fix it

All About MIUI 12

MIUI 12 is the newest update coming to many Xiaomi phones in 2020. This update brings several new UI changes to the OS, that have big improvements over the previous MIUI 11. In this thread, I’ll go over some of the new features in MIUI 12 and how I use them.
Visual Updates
MIUI 12 has a lot of updates to the user interface, and plenty of new features to explore. You’re going to notice a big difference in the way your phone visualizes data. When you’re checking your battery usage, storage data, about the phone section, or any of the many settings menus, you’ll have access to detailed and clean data visuals.
Another visually pleasing addition in MIUI 12 is the new live Wallpapers called Super Wallpapers which use animated satellite imagery sourced provided by NASA. The Super Wallpapers bind the user experience by a connected movement across different sections of MIUI 12, from the always-on display to the homescreen.

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Here is a list of some of the best new UI features in MIUI 12:
New Design and animations
Visual representation of data
Dark Mode
Super Wallpapers
Functionality Updates
Some other new features in MIUI 12 include the new app drawer which automatically classifies apps in different categories – just like the POCO Launcher – making the sorting of apps much easier. MIUI 12 also brings the very useful floating windows, because who doesn’t like to scroll through Twitter while watching a live webinar or use two social media apps at once.
The new app drawer can be activated by going to settings > Home screen > Home screen and then selecting With App drawer.
Use the tabs at the top of the app drawer to see different apps in specific categories. I have found this feature so helpful in finding apps that I'm looking for. Some apps have very similar icons, which make them easy to miss when I'm scrolling through my drawers looking for what I want. Now it's much easier with the ability to tap "communications" and quickly be able to find discord, snapchat, and messaging all on the same page. It saves time and is a big improvement over MIUI 11.
Ultra battery saver is a new aggressive power saver mode that unlocks a much longer battery life for your Xiaomi phone. To enable this mode, go to settings > Battery & performance and toggle Ultra battery saver.
While this option is on, your phone will restrict the most power-consuming apps features and decrease your device's performance. You'll be left with basic functionality like SMS, network connection, and calls. This new mode has a huge impact on the amount of time you can squeeze out of a low battery.
One of the design elements that can be seen in a completely new avatar in MIUI 12 is the new Control center. The Control center has been isolated from the notifications panel and replaces the traditional quick settings tiles we see in Android as well as in previously released versions of MIUI. You can access the notifications by swiping down from the left side of the display’s upper edge whereas the Control center can be opened by swiping down from the right side of the display.
The Control center features a grid of quick setting shortcuts with the most important ones such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and mobile data shown in the form of rounded rectangular buttons with a tiny arrow in the bottom corner which can be used to show available Wi-Fi connections or Bluetooth devices on an overlay card. Another nifty addition is the new slider for brightness which is now placed in the center of the control center and is relatively more easily accessible than before, especially on phones with big displays. The Control center can be expanded by a downward swipe on the bar below the brightness slider and icons can be arranged manually based on your preferences.
MIUI 12 adds floating windows with the objective of offering the same multi-window experience as on a desktop. Supported apps can be opened in the form of floating windows that occupy only a small section of the display and can be opened on top of other apps. The Samsung Experience UI and its successor One UI have supported a similar feature called “Pop-up view” for many years now. Xiaomi’s version, on the other hand, feels much smoother and responsive, even in the beta build.
Click here for video demo of floating window
The floating windows in MIUI can be resized so you can continue working on another app in the background. To initiate a floating window, you can go to the Recents menu and tap on the Floating windows option on the top left. Alternatively, you can also launch floating windows by long-pressing on an app preview in the Recents menu and then tapping the picture-in-picture icon or by tapping on the floating window option in the Control Center.

Hi there! It should be already working.
Are you sure Shizuku service is running? Please note that while attempting to pair, whenever you visit developer settings, you must keep going back with gestures or on-screen navigation back button. Switching directly from settings to Shizuku App using gestures or recents doesn't work.
