I am a big fan of dark mode. I prefer all of my apps to be set to dark mode when possible. That's why I'm pretty excited about the new dark mode coming in MIUI 12. I have MIUI 12 running on my Xiaomi Mi 9T and have been using the new dark mode. In this thread, I'll share some photos so you'll know when to expect when your phone gets the MIUI 12 update.
To turn on Dark mode, go to Settings > Display > Dark mode. This menu will have the following options:
Dark mode
Adjust wallpaper to Dark mode
Schedule
Individual apps
Adjust contrast automatically
The new Dark mode is a forced themes that is applied to all of your apps and system pages. This means that even apps without a dark mode setting, will now be able to have dark mode.
These two screenshots compare the default Chrome dark mode and the new system dark mode .
Here is an example of an app that does not support dark mode. The Google Photos app does not have an independent dark mode, like most other Google apps. Instead, this app relies on a system-wide theme in order to have dark mode. These screenshots will show you Google Photos with the default themeand with the system dark mode .
Individual Apps
If you only want specific apps to use dark mode, you can toggle them individually in the settings menu. Some times you'll come across an app that just looks better in light mode. Now you don't have to sacrifice your light mode apps when you turn on system-wide dark mode.
Scheduel
I personally have been using the scheduler to switch on dark mode at 8pm every night, as the sun starts to go down. It's much easier on my eyes when using my phone before bed, or in the middle of the night. The schedule feature is very easy to use. You simply set the time that you want the theme to go on and off. It does not have different options for specific days of the week.
Adjust wallpaper to Dark mode
I was curious about the feature that adjusts your wallpaper to be dark mode-friendly, so I gave it a shot. When you toggle this feature on, MIUI will darken your wallpaper. Here is a side by side example of dark mode without wallpaper enabled and with wallpaper enabled .
Contrast and Colors
MIUI 12 is designed to adjust your display to extreme or soft light. The colors and contrast will be more or less intense based on what the situation calls for. It's a nice feature to have and improves your ability to read what's on your phone in different lighting situations.
So that's all the new stuff coming in the dark mode update for MIUI 12.
Hey, Can you please tell me which apps are by default turned on Dark Mode in the individual apps?
Actually i am facing a problem, I am an Android Develper and one of my App doesn't support Dark Mode but in MI devices it is forcefully switched to Dark Mode and showing weird UI. So i just want to stop that by making my app by default turned off in the individual apps settings in Advanced Dark mode settings in MIUI 12

I am having a similar issue. My app has a dark theme, but somehow Miui 12 decides not to use that, but instead use the force dark (Check out https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/look-and-feel/darktheme#force-dark). If you <item name="android:forceDarkAllowed">false</item> to your theme, then it shouldn't use the force dark, but I haven't tested it.

That's a shame, I am also still searching for a way to fix this. It is pretty annoying, my apps are receiving bad reviews because of a messed up view, even though the issue seems to be with MIUI 12.. I have never received any complaints about this for other Android skins (even though the apps are available for almost a year already, with 50k+ installs).

The only way i think is to follow the Light And Dark mode guidelines and start designing accordingly. My app is supposed to give dark theme so even if the theme if light I am using same colors which fixes this problem.
But yes I agree that can cause problem to many many andro-devs
Hi @XDARoni
Which files I must edit to customize the colors of the dark mode? Some backgrounds are just too dark almost black and I'd like to change them to a dark grey instead. Similar to the current background color here at XDA forums.
I have full read write access to system, vendor and product partitions on my Android 10 device thanks to my new script that you can find here :

Hi All, i made a terminal emulator which acts as a live wallpaper. Check below for more details:
Fully customizable terminal live wallpaper.
Terminal Live Wallpaper allows you to show useful information with style. It acts as a command line tool ( terminal ) and can execute and display almost any command supported by Android.
Number of commands is not limited, terminal live wallpaper will circle through all of them and display their results. Also it will simulate manual human command input. Use settings screen to change commands, text font, color, size, background color, background image and many more. All options can be combined in a infinite way.
Unleash your inner geek!
- Demo commands for both rooted and not rooted devices
- Switch between commands with screen tap
- Change text font, color and size
- 12 cool fonts
- World Wrap
- Set background color with transparency
- 8 included image backgrounds
- Option to set any image from device as background
- Set top offset
- Light weight and battery saver
- Supports all screen sizes and orientations
I encourage you to investigate it and try different combinations and parameters. :good:
NOTES:
- When selecting a color, click on circle to confirm
- Use transparency with background color to set color filters on image backgrounds
- Please be careful with commands, specially if you have root access. I am not responsible for damage which could be caused by inappropriate use.
Download it from Google Play. Just type "Terminal Live Wallpaper [Sorry cant post links yet, because im a boon]
or use this link: play_google_com/store/apps/details?id=com.atridhr.terminalwallpaper [replace _ with . ]
Let me know what you think of it.

I really like this live wallpaper, thanks for sharing.
When I doing some changes in the settings, the app sometime FC.
If you make resizable custom background image it will be perfect, because actually when the custom image not exactly fit on the screen I got black line in the top and bottom.

Hi l3s,
thx for your reply and report.
Wallpaper is made to center all custom images, but im not sure what happened in your case. Nexus 7 is a special case because its high dpi (not many device have 320dpi), anyway i will try to fix this with new update.
Until then, you can try using bigger image, or try to crop that one to 1280x800 resolution.
Hi, i will periodically share some new ideas and screens about different ways to use this live wallpaper, so here's one:
CLOCK MODE
Set font to Android Nation
Set font size to 100 (adjust to screen resolution)
Set Input command "date" (only this command)
Set Word Wrap to true
Set font color, custom image and color filter (optional)
See attachment to check what i got
As i have said before, ill keep posting some "interesting" ways how i use Terminal Live Wallpaper, so heres an update:
Alien mode
1. Set odd looking font, like Alpha Sentury
2. Font size ~140 (more or less)
3. Word wrap true
4. Custom background
5. Set background color filter to black with small transparency (this makes a darker image background)
6. Set font color to gray
7. Put many input commands
Check attachment to see what i got.
Awesome

Tholotis, blurring the line between perfection and reality. Literally.
Tholotis is minimalistic app that enables you to blur, dim, and save your wallpapers.
Done blurring and dimming? Let BackDrop™ take over, an algorithm that produces pixel perfect wallpaper optimization.
Moreover, make your homescreen glow by tinting your wallpaper in your favorite colors.
Complete feature list:
- Pick current wallpaper or select from gallery
- Blur, dim
- Tint (Paid feature)
- Crop, rotate image
- Produce pixel perfect wallpapers with BackDrop™
- Set wallpaper, save to gallery
- Share
.....
"Tholotis" is a transliteration of the Greek word "θολότης", which means "blur".
Much of Tholotis' design was based on Roman Nurik's extraordinary app Muzei.
Tholotis is not a "cheap copy" of Muzei. Muzei is a live wallpaper, while Tholotis is a tool for blurring images and saving them in your Gallery. Tholotis just resembles Muzei in the sliders layout, the resources of which were directly taken from Muzei since it's an open source app. Everything else is entirely my creation. Credits were given to Roman Nurik in the Play Store app description.
wow You're in xda portal
nice app thanks

Nice app. 3 additional sliders to saturate R G B colors would be nice.
Hey Chris95X8.
I remember your work from SE X8 times..
I see you made big progess That's great!
Really nice app!
Any chance for saturation sliders?
Great app! Works very fast and effortless :good:
Small feature request: Would be great if "Save to gallery" option would only do that and not also set it as wallpaper.
awesome thanks
Nice app
I like the app but I am getting FC when applying the wall. Anyone else ? Nexus 5 stock 4.4.2.
Looks really nice!
Maybe add feature to add text? With some nice fonts.
I'd like to see an option not to automatically apply the wallpaper.
Great app. Works very well. Thanks for sharing!
Version 1.4 features a new option to save a blurred image without setting it as a wallpaper, as requested. Long press the checkmark button, and the image will be saved.
Also, I will not be adding extra sliders for saturation and/or other effects. It goes beyond the app's purpose.

Does the crash occur with any image or a specific one? If it is a specific image, try to send it to me so I can test myself. This is weird because I also have a Nexus 5 stock.
It is the stock yellow Kit Kat wallpaper I have in my download folder on internal memory..I have downloaded it somewhere before I got Nexus 5 and transfered it later on to N5 from my good old N4 ..Here is a link to my dropbox with all the stock wallpapers https://www.dropbox.com/sh/o97pbheqtt59u61/BAbFrkYkYa
Its no big deal , it will FC but also it will do what it should do, meaning all the adjustment and also setting up the wallpaper. It just FC's with that.
Anyway thanks for your interest. I also have Muzei app installed, maybe it has something to do with this. Crash report sent couple of times.
Thanks

Nice one Chris! Fovero
Tholotis' core was entirely rethought and reworked, and now uses a powerful algorithm called BackDrop™ which produces pixel-perfect wallpapers in order to make your device look gorgeous.
What does this offer that Blurone doesn't? Genuine question. Picture blurring has been around for a while.

BackDrop™, dimming, and much better design. That's what it offers. Oh, and no ads either.
Pixel perfect wallpapers... Are you saying the already existing method/s (prior to BackDrop) were not producing good pictures?
As @MattKneale previously said, picture blurring has been around for a while... And it seemed fine . Anyway, there is always room for improvement, I guess :good:.
Don't get me wrong, I am not attempting to bash your work in any way. It is awesome, keep up the good work
The app is available on the Galaxy App's app market and works on Samsung's touchwiz android 6.0 (some say you can side load the apk on touchwiz android version 5.1 and it will still work; app won't appear on the galaxy store unless you are on android 6.0 though)
It, of course being by samsung, DOES NOT require root and can be uninstalled if you don't like it.
Just look up "Good Lock" on the samsung app store (Galaxy Apps); it will say "update" instead of download since it's an update to the System UI, and your phone should reboot.
Confirmed working on tdunham's deodexed MM rom. Should work without any issues on stock none-rooted.
Here's a video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ0P1S9jom0
(pokedex animations not included )
Just tried it. Tried it for a few minutes. And uninstalled it. Too many bright colors for my taste.
Colors can be changed by going into the Good Lock settings, then selecting the routines menu and editing default. Darker colors are on the left while lighter is on the right. If only the recents menu could be changed so easily.
Also the bokeh is ****. Not only does it cause lag upon opening the drawer, but it looks incredibly ugly. It's nowhere near as well implemented as iOS and even if it was, it wouldn't fit with material design.

I was happy once I figured out I could change the color from the butt ugly purple they started me on. Now I'm back closer to the stock MM color.
Your second point, are you talking about the app drawer on the lock screen? I didn't personally like that. You can disable it, though. If you go into routine just like changing the color and at the last setting page it has a little screen with the sections for clock, notifications, and app drawer. Uncheck the app drawer and it is gone.

I was referring to the notification drawer. Though I also dislike the other areas that Samsung has shoved bokeh (blur) into, like the power menu.

Ohh OK, I understand now. I don't mind the blur too much and haven't noticed any lag from it yet. Overall, I think it is an improvement on TW...even with the crappy recents.

You can set your own lockscreen background with Good Lock. After you install Good Lock it will change but if you go and set your lockscreen background again, it will stick.
Is it just me or while using good lock, and when you go into the recent apps and you hit clear all it doesn't clear all and it just clears apps that are visible in the recent apps menu?

I am very glad to see asus has kept a notification LED, as some other phones have dropped this option.
Question, is it multicoloured?, i have only seen it light up RED when charging in videos.

Oh my, I'm so tempted by this phone. The only thing I'm wondering about is whether I'd miss not having an AMOLED screen.... The rest of the specs are of high appeal!
not having an amoled screen is not a problem for me , as you can read in my signature
Great thats another tick
Can someone who owns this phone confirm what colours the LED supports and whether its possible to assign different colours to different apps? On my Samsung S5 I have blue set for email, green for Facebook messenger and white for WhatsApp among others. I want to know if its possible to replicate this configuration on the Zenfone 6. Thanks.
If it is an RGB LED use Light manager, im using on my S8+ and its excellent.

I used Light Flow on all my phones with notification LED. You can not only assign different colors to different apps, but also different colors/pulse patterns to different notifications of the same app, based on the notification text/subject. It's great.
I'm aware of the versatility of Light Flow / Light Manager however I want to know what colours the physical LED can support. Guess I'll have to wait until more forum members buy the phone as there don't seem to be many at the moment.
I had significant problems with lightflow, it used to be ok, then started crashing and playing up constantly, hence i switched to light manager, i suggest try both.
+1 for the main OP

Red, green and yellow.
no blue , didnt get it to work when I tried very quickly .
in Zenui there is no built-in support to adjust the LED color but maybe using Light flow or whatever apps it can be done.. although for me I am not interested at all in this so havent really tinkered with it.

There's no Always On Display, though, so a customisable LED becomes more useful. (I don't think there's any AOD, anyway?)

Shame there is no blue. Makes me wonder what the cost difference would be between an RG and RGB LED. Still nice to have one and hope at least 3rd party app customisation will work. Odd they are one of the few who bothered to include it yet they didn't put any effort into making it more effective.

DarQ provides a per-app selectable force dark option for Android 10 and above.
It uses a root or Shizuku (ADB) service to apply the theme seamlessly and quickly, without needing an accessibility service.
DarQ also provides an option to apply the system dark theme (as well as selectable force dark) only after sunset and before sunrise, protecting your eyes when it's most needed.
Please read the Frequently Asked Questions sections in the app or here for more information and some answers to questions
Download from GitHub releases
Source available on GitHub
Screenshots:
Examples of apps with force dark enabled:
Changelog:
v2.2 & v2.2.1
DarQ 2.2 is a maintenance release with Android 13 support and a fix for location related crashes for the Auto Dark Theme option.
2.2.1 fixes a crash introduced in 2.2
v2.1
DarQ 2.1 contains a few new features and fixes:
Backup and Restore your config to device or the cloud
A rewritten Xposed module with the ability to make even more apps work with force dark, including Snapchat and an option (enabled by default) to fix the inverted (black on dark) status bar icon colors.
Fixed crashes related to navigation in the app
Fixed a crash where requesting root could cause a crash
Improved some Material You theming throughout the app
Please note, if you use the Xposed module currently, your settings may be reset by this update. Read the instructions in this post to workaround this.
v2.0
DarQ 2.0 is a complete, from scratch rewrite of DarQ, with a lot of improvements:
DarQ 2.0 has an entirely new design, with Material You elements and Monet (wallpaper-based) colours.
The ADB script is now gone, and instead Shizuku handles the service on non-root devices. If you don't know what Shizuku is, think of it like a Superuser app for non-root devices. Start Shizuku via ADB on a computer (or even on your phone on Android 11 and above) once per boot, and any app that uses Shizuku can use ADB services.
The Accessibility Service has been replaced with a ProcessObserver, using the Shizuku/Root service. This is much quicker than Accessibility, so apps that previously were opening too quick to be supported may now work.
Improvements to the auto dark theme at sunrise/sunset to work better on different devices.
Improvements to the Xposed module for apps that try to block the use of force dark, preventing them from doing so.

Apologies, I read this thread while half asleep
Absolutely awesome! Great work man! I'm on a Pixel 3Xl, dp4.
Looking forward to try this now that q is finally rooted for pixel 3 I just might jump on it again if next beta release is good ?
It forces the app drawer arrow to show. May be @Quinny899 can do something about it.

Thanks.
Works well! Thank you!
This is awesome already!! Few apps that I use very often that it did not work with: whatsapp, maps, google search
Unfortunately not working for me. Root & accessibility access given. DP4, GSI on a treble enabled device.
Toggling 'Enable Dark Theme' has no effect & 'Force Dark Theme' option won't let me toggle the switch but it shows 'Restart any apps to apply this change' message when tapped.
I selected some apps & toggled force dark manually from dev settings but the selections don't seem to apply that way too.
If you need logs let me know. Thanks
I see in the screenshots the dark mode is like a "grey" mode. Can it be #ff0000 black?

Not unless Google themselves add this. This app only activates the built in dark mode force which isn't full black

It activated whatever dark mode the app can support. I have some black and some dark. No choice between them, but some are black. It depends how the app is built. I have a few news apps that go black, and few others are dark.

There was a comparison done between full black and grey dark implemented by google recently. Practically, there is no difference in battery consumption for the two. But if you like the full black for aesthetics, then you are out of luck.
