Not sure if it is supposed to be disabled on purpose or not.
Assuming you're a local admin and it's a windows machine, you can enable the USB-controller device by going in the control pannel -> devive manager. Locate the USB controller and if disable, right-click on it, enable.
That's also a good way of "reseting" your device if you encounter errors with it.
Yeah, its windows xp sp3... and required hrdwares are also present in the machine.. but it doesn't show any "usb controller" in device manager list(supposed to be there in last)...I installed the chipset drivers in that pc...successfully... but then too not showing the PD.
There are a handful of ways to disable usb in a computer. Easy way would be to unplug it directly from the inside of a PC. It's also possible to disable it through the pc's bios. And it can also be disabled by disabling the driver like the one mentioned above. Also it could be disabled through registry and group policy if on windows machine. There are alot more ways to do it that I didn't mention.

I would first update the usb drivers. I dont know if its your computer or one in a lab or whatever but if its running XP. Its a good chance the drivers havent been updated in awhile. When you say disabled, do you mean when you plug in a usb stick nothing happens or do you see in device manager that its disabled. Also it would only be relative to the motherboard controller if your using a front access usb port, as a back usb port is built in, have you tried other ports? Lastly there is always the bios, bios is probably hasnt been updated in awhile if this is not your computer, but make sure any usb controllers and or legacy usb devices are enabled.

So I am trying to USB tether right? but, for some reason it won't even setup a connection and when I enabled Dedug mode for USB that seemed to get it working. Honestly I don't want to do it that way. I pay for my tethering plan unlike most people on here with T-Mobile.
What I am trying to say is that out the box USB tethering does not work.
Now with Debug enabled I can do it, but when debug is enabled my damn Win 8.1 64 bit flips out! Seriously I don't know what the hell this damn phone is doing to my computer but it forces my CPU to go up to 100% usage!!
I have a 2500 $ laptop bought this year and its a Sager. This laptop has never had an issue until I tried to USB tether while on debug mode...
I need to know how I can just tether this stupid thing to my laptop without using debug OR other apps. I wanna go 100% legit for once! Use every thing how its meant to be used!

Is this some kind a joke fellas? NO ONE has seen their computer or laptop flip out when this Nexus 5 starts tethering? Guys this is a major issue that forces my computer to slow speeds once the tether is activated. When the connection is severed my computer works like normal... I was doing tethering on my laptop with a Photon 4G phone and never once seen this issue... I wonder if it has to do with using the infrastructure of the Nexus 5 vs using something like PDAnet or something. Which I can use because I bought it. Easytether sucks though... Well sometimes it sucks.

I've tethered a bunch on Windows 7 tho. Never had a hitch problem. Don't know what to tell you.
I just ran into this exact same problem. WiFi tethering seems to work fine, but enabling USB tethering slow my PC to a crawl. Task Manager is particularly slow to respond while USB tethering is enabled. I've tested with two PCs, and have gotten the same results.

Well then is anyone able to point me toward the correct drivers? The ones that get installed automatically have caused this problem for me now on three different machines, two running Windows 7, and one running Windows 8. The tether works, insofar as I can get online and view websites, but the system slows to the point of unusability at the same time.

I'm not trying to make ADB or fastboot work. They work fine with no issues. As does MTP. I have trouble when USB tethering is enabled, exclusively.

Neither the drivers linked, nor the Google drivers as provided in the Android SDK, are the correct driver for the "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device" that appears when using USB tethering. If the answer to the problem is "we don't know, use WiFi tethering instead" then so be it, I'll make do. It would be nice if even one person could come in here and say "I have a Nexus 5 and USB tethering works fine" though, since if this is indeed a "driver issue" there must be someone out there who has this working fine.

I have a Nexus 5 and USB tethering works fine.
that being said i am using vista, using a usb 2 port on my laptop, usb debugging is not checked, using naked driver v.73
posting this while usb tethering.

Sorry to raise a thread, but I am having the same issue as the OP with a Nexus 5 and Windows 8.1. Thethering on USB causes the machine to slow, CPU to spike, although the internet connection is established. Has anyone found any fix? I have tried resetting the device, using it on another machine and it still has the same issue.
As soon as the Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device is listed in Device Manager, my machine spikes. Have tried uninstalling the driver and letting in re-install as well. Driver for the NDIS piece is from Microsoft. Can't find anything else.

i have the same issue, always have done and the only solution i found was just to use wifi tethering. tried changing drivers but nothing has worked.
i have this issue on a samsung galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition P605 uses the Remote NDIS driver like the nexus 5 wifi teathering perfectly fine USB Teathering is bad the driver will dropout or if i unplug the tablet from the computer it will either speed back up or act as if it is still connected.... when rebooting it will not reboot if i have unplugged it and it still thinks its connected but if i dont unplug it and reboot it will blue screen with a usb bugcode or something like that....
ps sorry for posting to this post even though my issue is with a SGN10.1 2014
Had anybody figured out a fix for this crazy issue? I've been trying to fix this for a while now but nothing seems to working!

Same problem here.
I can also use ADB shell with the drivers but when I enable USB Tethering the computer starts to slow down and CPU to 100%
(Using OnePlus btw)

I was able to solve the problem by changing the driver of the device. In case anyone is interested, here are the steps
Plug the phone to the USB and enable USB tethering
Go to Device Manager. Under Network Adapters a "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device" should be listed. Right click on it and click on Update Driver... > Search on the computer > Choose manually from a list....
Here, uncheck Show compatible hardware, then go to Microsoft and search for "Remote NDIS Compatible Device" on the right. Click next and Yes in the warning message that appears. Now the computer should behave normally.

i'm trying to connect my shield to my computer to do some basic android development (i have an app, it works on other devices, want to test it on the shield).
my problem is, when i plug it into the computer, nothing happens. to clarify, i don't mean that the drivers don't install correctly and then i can't do anything. what is happening is actually nothing. the computer (windows 8) does not recognize anything is happening, the device manager does not see any new devices even after scanning for hardware changes.
the shield is in development mode, and has usb debugging turned on, but i don't get any response anywhere. the shield does at least appear to charge over the usb cable, but that's it. listing adb devices also provides no output.
do you guys have any idea what might be going on that the device isn't recognized on any level that i can tell?
It sounds like either the USB port or the cable you're using is faulty.
Have you tried switching USB ports, to see if it's recognized then? And have you tried using a different cable?

If youre just trying to connect thru adb you need the universal naked driver. If the shield isnt being mounted try a different usb port and make sure youre using the shield cable as well. My samsung cable will charge it but i cant transfer data with it.

Hi everyone. I post this topic in here, because I don't know where else I could do it, because my device is of a not much known brand. I own a Krono Net 1032, chinese tablet, is rooted via magisk, and everything was going ok with it, until several days ago, when I tried to connect from pc, to adb via wifi, but it didn't connect (adb debugging was enabled and adb returned me 10061 error); action that was performed right without any issue till that day. Uneasied, I tried to connect it via usb, but not only won't connect to adb, but it won't be detected as mass storage... even is not detected as anything. Now, really worried, I tried to connect it by changing usb cable... the same; tried connecting on another usb ports...the same; tried connecting tablet on another pc... the same; tried connecting any peripheral via otg... peripherals won't work; I disabled and reenabled adb debugging... the same. It barely charges, but if I move the tablet, stops charging.
The alarming behavior is that, for I could get root access, it should be connected on preloader mode, for can flash it; so if I told you that this tablet is already rooted, is because in the past I could connect it on that mode and my pc did recognize it with such mode. But now, not even pc recognize such connection.
I suspect that is a hardware issue, but I don't know if that could be happening because of usb port solderings or an usb controller ic issue; and I don't want to open it and try to repair, without before read your opinions.
So please ¿What can be happening there?

I would do, if my device would be detected on fastboot mode or preloader mode, but none of those usb connection modes are detected by pc. So I don't guess it's an operating system issue; or better said, i'm afraid of doing that, and find that it remains the same. But I'll consider it as my last resort (because i've made many customizations that I don't want to lose -root, gravity box, lsposed, etc-). Anyway I think the reason of what could be happening, would be maybe worst than that (I think is a tablet's usb port issue). Thanks for your opinion.
PS: I forgot to say something that confuses me too much but at the same time, gives me hope that this isn't a hardware issue: Wifi adb isn't working too,and something weird, remote control from pc (eg. via teamviewer or anydesk) doesn't work also.
Don't think device's USB-port is defective, that of all things the lanes are broken, but not the power related connections.
I rather think that USB is not configured correctly in Android's build.prop file, expected USB- setting in build.prop always should be

I tried adding that line, and rebooted the device, but nothing happened, is still without usb support... But wait a moment, about it ¿is there any specific place to paste that line, or can be pasted wherever inside this file
Did you verify that buld.prop got changed?
Not already existing key-value pairs typically are added to end of build.prop file.
Ckeck for existence of these 2 key-value pairs too:
persist.service.adb.enable=1
persist.service.debuggable=1

No, is not recognized in fastboot or preloader. That's why I suspect of tablet's usb port, which would be probably the worst scenary to me. The weird thing is, if the suspected problem is related to hardware ¿Why adb via wifi is not working too? ¿Isn't that a routine separated from usb adb? or definitely ¿if usb adb is not working, wifi adb also stops working?

Yes, they are already written there, but none of the expected happened (which comes alive again its usb port).
If my problem would be hardware related, I mean, if the problem is at the usb port (i think it is, because, despite it charges when cable is plugged, if I move a little the tablet, it loses charge connection. I tried several cables and happens the same), if sadly i'm right, I think that, being positivist, it would be just solderings retouch on the usb port. But investigating, I can see that micro USB type C (female) connector, is not so easy (even is complicated to not say hard) to resolder, so ¿is there any technique?¿Do i need a hot air gun or something like that?¿or is that only solvable by swapping its main board?
Anyway, If my problem is of hardware, none of the options could be nice.

That board seems to be a spare part of a nokia device. It would be very good if only was disconnecting the suspected bad component, and connecting the new one. But I opened this tablet and what I saw, is that seems, that usb port is integrated with the mainboard.
If it were micro USB 2.0 I'd do it myself.
USB Type C on a motherboard I'm sure that I'd destroy somwthing.

That's my worry, because it's USB type C.
There are two types of Type C connector:
Real, USB 3.0 24 pin
Lite, USB 2.0 12 pin
I'm not sure that I'd even want to tangle with the 12 pin.
I have an update about this topic. Well, I took courage and disassembled as much carefully I could, I tried to get as much tools I could (besides solder iron, magnifying glass, focal illumination, soldering paste, etc.). I could saw that usb socket pins were tiny but accessible, so, also as much carefully I could, I resoldered them, I cleaned them, and reassembled the tablet.
To be brief, after that treatment, the battery charging was more consistent, more stable (now I can move the tablet without losing charging connection) but it still, doesn't want to be recognized by the pc, wheter if it's on fastboot mode, or normal mode (with tablet on). I must clear that my pc, recognizes other android devices that are plugged into it, but this one doesn't. So, that's very wird to me. My only explanation for that, is that its usb controller IC is working bad or could be broken, but if it would be broken, how could be possible, that tablet still can charges its battery? What do you think about it?
PS: I didn't see too much pins, so I think it has 12 pins.

I was seized by a big doubt since this problem happened. ¿Is wifi ADB bound to usb adb? I mean, if USB ADB isn't working, ¿Does wifi adb stop working too?
Another question is: Before this, I remember remote control worked on this tablet (control tablet remotely), but now there's no way to make it work ¿Can be this related to the original issue?
Even worst ¿Can the initial issue, be related to a ROM corruption issue? I say "worst" because if it is, I don't know how to reflash it without usb support.

You should be able to do this without root.

Ok, I did all that, with a terminal emulator. Without root permission, those commands do nothing. So I invocated root access by typing "su" command; then root request appeared, I gave it to the app root access, and then all those commands worked ok. After corroborate the right wifi adb connection (after enable on developer options "usb debbugging" and all those stuff). I tried a remote control program called "scrcpy", and it worked as expected in a normal condition, I mean, I can see on my pc, the tablet's screen and also i can control the tablet from it, but after that , I'm still wondering, why all other remote control programs, like team viewer and anydesk, don't want to control this tablet, hmmm... ¡anyway!
That news in general to me, is an advance, and is good, but i'm still wondering why usb connection isn't responding (mtp, adb, fastboot nor preloader mode) , not even its OTG support and I'm pretty sure this tablet has it, because with it, came additional an OTG adapter, so why would do they add an otg adapter if tablet wouldn't support it?
My s22 ultra suddenly does not work on dex. Theres no way to access the sd via a pc either.
I was using this exact setup and it worked fabulously.
As far as i know i went to bed one night and it didnt work the next time i went to use dex.
Reboot phone and pc? Is the phone recognised when connected? Try another cable, does it work on a different pc. Do other USB devices connect ok etc etc
i have rebooted both phone and pc. Same cable as when it did work infact the samsung original that came with the s22. My s9+ does not connect. Both phones DO charge via usb c.
I have infact reinstalled my pc and resest my phone to factory trying to fix this.
Still to no avail.

its a brand new laptop and it does power the phones. and it all did work fine. i can even power my usb c vape through the same port

actually i just thaught of this, the last night i was using it i had the standard popup on my phone asking to allow dex to run. An ok responce and cancel or not now responce, i dont remember exactly.
Could this have done something if i hit cancel
also could there be something in the pc bios i may have not realized could effect this. Since i was on the same night trying to boot to a usb linux pendrive

could it have anything to do with the phone usb connection settings. When you plug in a usb otg it normally would give an option for transfer or charge etc on the phones pull down menu and all its doing is saying fast charging

well i can access the standard usb port with an sd card reader. read write and even installed windows off it. So this usb to usb c should work fine.
If it were just the usb c hub blown this would not be the case.

im currently trying to see if i can run a lubuntu through usb bootable key and try to access the usb c ports from that.
I have been reading about my laptop and apparently it has a reputation of usb issues. lenovo x1 yoga gen 2 on win 10
Solved. During a bios update it appears the bios setting for thunderbolt usb-c was changed to disabled. As soon as i discovered this and rebooted it worked so if anyone is having issues with this they may want to check there bios settings.
4 days of struggling over. Dang its nice to beat a computer once in a while.

Do you have Link to Windows enabled on your phone? If so, turn it off and try running DeX.
