Selecting SIM before placing a call - Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Questions & Answers

Hi all, just got this phone. Previously on my MI 8 I was able to long press a number and then select a sim to place the call. That doesn't seem to work as the pop up menu that shows on long press does not have this option.
I've already set a SIM for a particular number but no matter whether I dial from Favorites or from Recents it still ignores that setting. Any idea how I can dial a specific number from the non-default calling SIM? Thanks.

Works with MIUI 12 so you probably have to wait for an update.

Dialing "p" for wait

Hi,
in the old (and current I believe as well) Nokia phone - and most other pure mobile phones for that matter - you can dial a "p", typically by holding down the "*" for a while. The "p" makes the phone wait a little while before continuing to dial the rest of the number.
I need this feature!!!
I am using some prepaid phone cards for which this feature is really necessary.
So, anyone have a clue how to get a similar functionality on WM5? The "p" certainly does not work ...
Thanks in advance - Andy
if you're dialing live, you can dial only the connection number then open the keypad to dial the rest of the keycode manually. If you want to automate it, create a contact with the full number and you can enter in "p" there.
I have a contact for my voicemail which dials the voicemail and waits and the pin + #. this works great with voicecommand cause all I have to do is say "call voicemail" and it'll dial, enter in the password automatically and I don't have to touch the phone at all...
Interesting ... I did migrate all my number from my previous phone, where i had the "p" included in the number. The numbers also seemingly came up correctly on the PPC phone. However, when I tried to dial the number, it would not take the complete number with the "p" - I cannot remember exactly what it did, but it did not dial the whole thing. Thats why I thought/ hoped that there is another way. I guess, after what you are saying, I should give it another try ...
And yes, the application that you are describing is very similar to what I want to use. There is a prepaid international call provider, which has a local dial-in number and lets me call abroad for very little money. I call the local number - the service provider recognizes my account by the incoming phone number of my mobile - and then I dial the destination number. For the recognising part however, it is needed that the phone waits a little before it continues to dial the destination number.
Alright, alright .... works! Thx for the assurance! Tried it again and it just takes a lot longer - the pause is longer - than it used to be on my Nokia. Also, I do not hear the dialing tones after the "p" anymore, which probably put me off before.
Thanks! Thread closed
Try replacing the "p" with a "," . It will pause for a few seconds once the other side picks up the phone.

[Q] How to automatically select a SIM for calls or texts on a DUAL SIM phone?

Hi,
I have a Xiaocai X9 dual sim phone. I have two sim cards with complementary contracts. The first sim comes with free texts and internet, while the second sim card comes with free calls. However, if I accidentally use the first sim card for calls or the second for texts and internet, it can get pretty expensive.
I use MIUI and often it automatically selects sim card 1 instead of 2 for calls. Therefore, I need a way to disable or block all outgoing calls on sim card 1 and ideally all outgoing texts and internet connections for sim card 2.
Please post here if you know a solution. Thanks!
Does anyone know a handset or app which allows you to restrict calls to small set of numbers, while allowing SMS to any number?
I've been playing around with my HTC Desire S, and you can use Fixed Dialing Numbers (FDN) to restrict calls to a small set of numbers, but that also restricts SMS to that same set of numbers.
I'm using miui v5. While making call it asks from which
Sim you want to place call. Also for sms while sending sms you get 2 options sim1 sim2 select appropriate option to send sms. I have not seen any song to set default option for sms/call

I also use MIUI v5. There are certain scenarios when MIUI automatically starts a call with sim1 without the prompt. Furthermore, there is also the risk to accidentally select the wrong sim card for a call or a text message - as it happened to my once. I therefore still try to find a fool-proof solution - either an app or an OS.
Hi guys
I have the same problem and seriously want to solve this problem with miui v5 on TCL s950
when I'm trying to make a call from contacts list it use sim1 automatically!
If it haave any solution please help....

HTC U11 Voicemail Setup On Stock Dialler

Hello,
I have just taken delivery of an HTC U11 6GB/128GB Dual SIM (all stock / not rooted) and find I am having issues with the HTC stock dialler and Voicemail setup. Basically on the stock dial pad I do not have the voicemail icon on key "1" so I cannot press key "1" to access my voicemail. I have checked under settings for voicemail and my provider and number are set correctly . I have installed a couple of other diallers from the Google Playstore and they have the key "1" voicemail shortcut that functions and dials Voicemail correctly. I have also tried with a couple of different provider SIMS and in all cases with the HTC Stock dialler no voicemail shortcut.
Can anyone offer and advise?
Many Thanks.

Same issue for me. Very strange!
Noticed that when you are actively in a call, however, the VM icon does appear above the 1 key when you click on the keyboard. Slightly pointless at that stage though!! Also no way to assign a speed dial to slot 1.
Probably something to raise with HTC directly?
Same for me. I tried to raise a case with them but for some reason the online form didn't seem to get through.
I will try again and send this link!

Likewise on my Sprint phone

Maybe it's just a problem with the phones bought direct from HTC or SIM-free? Mine came from HTC.
Had a reply as follows anyway, so fingers crossed for an update soon.....
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with HTC dialer of your HTC U11.
Thank you for informing us about issue with the voicemail icon and attaching the screen shot.
We have forwarded all data to our developers and expecting Phone app to be updated.
Please, for now use any third party dialer from Play Market.
Also, you can add the voice mail number as a contact and set speed dial for it.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you may have experienced.
Well, I have the U11+ with Oreo 8.0 and this issue is still there.
Maybe if you are back in touch with HTC you can mention this.
For now I'm just using speed dial 2 as my voicemail link.
Just installed the latest update 1.23.709.3 and this issue is still present.
Would be nice to see this fixed!
I was checking the information under the Phone Identity in Settings, and I noticed that under Slot 1 Phone Number, it is shown as, 'Unknown' !!!
Maybe this is the reason (bad coding) why the phone can't set up the voicemail dial feature when hard pressing 1 on the dial pad.

Nope. That isn't the reason. The same happens on my U11 64gb wwe and both my HTC m9's, one Dutch and one UK wwe. All phones show the phone number as "unknown". All phones have the voicemail on #1 speed dial for any carrier as normal.
It is the responsibility of the sim card to instruct the phone towards the correct carrier settings. It could be either the phone or the sim card.
Check the sim card in another device (must be network unlocked) and see if the problem occurs there, if so then the sim card is the problem.
If the test phone has the correct carrier settings and voicemail speed dial works as intended then the problem is the U11.
As for sprint and verizon, if those phones were issued by those carriers then the vmsd will work as the carriers preconfigure the device before shipping.
Have you checked both sim slots?.
Have you spoken with your carrier?.
It could well be that the problem is related to the dual sim feature.. More investigation needed i think..
Did HTC offer any fixes?
My wife just received an unlocked dual SIM U Play and we have the same issue. Carrier is set up. Voicemail number is correct. Voicemail icon does not appear against #1 on the dial pad unless a call is underway.
Press and hold #1 results in a request to select which slot (only 1 in use). Pressing slot 1 results in "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
The only solution I found was to use speed dialing, and assign number 2 with the voicemail number.

Question Dual Sim problem. Tmobile is Unlimited and Verizon is 5 gb a month pre paid.

T-Mobile is Unlimited and Verizon is 5 gb a month pre paid
So when I make a call using google voice it will only dial out of the sim that I set as primary.
I set T-Mobile as primary because its unlimited data.
If anyone has a option on choosing the sim you want as you are making the call let me know. Maybe a different phone dialer that lets me choose if anyone know of any.
Previous oneplus 8T I was able to set a specific sim just for Mobile data and choose what ever sim as the call is made.
For the moment I just linked both sim phone numbers to my google voice so incoming call are coming in through Verizon but outgoing calls are through T-Mobile.
Any questions or ideas you have let me know.
Long press on the call button? Its what I do
I can put in a number then long press on the green button and lets me choose.

Thank you for letting me know, it work as you say for the regular phone dialer but not with the google voice dialer.
Google voice app still chooses what ever sim is set as primary sim.
I'm still looking for a solution to get google voice to use the sim that is not the primary.
Solution:
Switched to google dialer and in settings > Calling accounts = you can change the "Make calls with" to either "sim1" or "eSIM" or "Always Ask"
So now I can choose what sim to use with the google voice app.
Sweeeeeet. Now under each contact I can set a specific sim to call if I don't want to choose on the spot every time I call a contact.

Question Dual SIM: Default SIM when calling

I have two SIMs and in settings phone is set to always ask. When selecting a SIM during calling, is it possible to mark the selected sim ad default for future calls to that number (like Google dialer does)?
I think it just does it. I never had to set any defaults
It does not.
It asks for which sim, I chose sim 1 but then second time I call it'll ask again
it asks but defaults to whatever sim you've chosen earlier. so i can just dial

As you can see im always asked
I am using Google dialer due to dual sim. You can select the "calling account" and pick the sim you want to use as default. Texting is tricker. Messages won't do MMS unless you have that sim picked as primary (using it for data). Had to get a third party app to overcome that. Currently using pulse sms.
