I have been searching around for something like this but the best I could find is this archaic abandoned app called beatmaker but I can't link to it. I know it exists in the Google Code database. It's not a bad start though I'm looking for an app like that but hopefully with some more advanced features like what's found a device such as the Boss Dr. Sample. (I can't link to show what I'm talking about, just look up the SP-202, I still own one of those.). I'd be very willing to beta test this and I am now producing music on my MotoXoom using Caustic 2 and would like to have something more interactive to use than just the sequencer in Caustic. I would be using my Samsung GTab with ICS on it (AOKP CM9 build7) as my primary test device.

Have you tried "Su-preme MPA"?, it's more like an AKAI sampler but might be what you're looking for. I agree my app is not meant for this kind of live performance.

Yeah, what I'm looking for is something that is directly interactive with the samples. I'm giving SU-preme MPA Lite a try. The price for the full version seems kind of steep but I don't even know if it's worth it for me. Thanks for the app suggestion.
P.S. HEY! I'm a huge fan of Caustic! Been working with with it for over a week now trying to work on new material since I got my MotoXoom. And I'm far from saying your app is not meant for live performance. I truly believe I can use it when I get to the live performance aspect of my music. It'd be a great sequencer for songs. I hope to see you improve upon it, especially with tempo changes.
There's an article from geek.com/androidpolice.com outlining Focal, a new camera app from the CM team. It seems awesome, especially for our device which has always had issues with the camera as compared to the stock camera app.
One of the best parts is that it is modular, so any dev can enable special features specific to our device, like zero shutter lag that we don't really get on AOSP camera app.
Just thought I'd share with you guys!

DISCLAIMER: I just found the APK because I searched for it. I found it, it runs, so I'm sharing it with this community. I haven't tested it extensively, so don't come to me if anything happens. You do this on your own.

Is there a version for the Epic 4G Touch (Sprint SGS2)? If so I'd love to try it out/test it out.
Spring Samsung Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710)
CyanogenMod Version: 10.1020130705-UNOFFICIAL-d710

i would say "ban this troll!" but this was well executed so i'm ok with it lol.
my first thoughts were like uh source isn't even out yet
update from the focal apk: it runs. overall works. focusing is meh on this device, everything looks kind of faded. it has issues connecting to the camera after a few tries...
anyway, i would only recommend using the apk for fun just to try it. there's obviously a crapload of bugs left that the CM team are already aware of, and they're working tirelessly to fix them.

Was very excited when first heard of this, figured since I'm using the unofficial CM build for this (SilverL's 4.2.2) that we might see it integrated into one of the builds.
Guess there are more issues than it's worth and we likely won't be seeing it fully operational?
Surprisingly its not just our device that its really buggy for. Other legacy devices are having a hard time getting it to work, and we're always waiting for the sensation to get fixed so its worse for us.
However the issue is with the focal app itself. I don't blame the cm team. They're going through a lot of awesome stuff right now, and I believe they're writing the focal app from the ground up, as compared to before where they were building on the aosp camera.
Anyway point is that its buggy for all cm users. Especially legacy devices.
But time fixes all bugs
Oh good, hope! I still love our "legacy" device more than 80% of the current tech that's out there, so glad I haven't had to buy a new smartphone in so long!
Hi,
Since the N5 has good camera with numerous functionnality i was wondering which camera app fits the best to it ?
I'm waiting for my n5 to arrived..
But i like camera FX, can someone try it on its nexus 5 and report if it's working well or not ?

Stock Camera App

I've tried CameraFX and Focal, and the pictures come out darker in low light and less precise... It seems the optimisation is built into the stock app at the moment so there's little point going 3rd party.

I'm looking for third party app since stock doesn't allow us to choose ISO for instance

What about focal? Not sure if it works for the nexus 5 since I don't have the phone yet but focal has been pretty good for me on the n4

The stock Android app is rubbish and fiddly to use, but ive not found a third party one that works very well yet. As has been said they seem to be optimising the camera in the camera app rather than in the firmware and Kernel. Rather cheeky for a Nexus..

It doesn't work on the N5 so save your money.
Having tested a few 3rd party camera apps on my N5 yesterday I can say they all seem to be bugging out a bit at the moment.
I can also say, for gods sake, why are there no 3rd party camera apps for android with a UI that doesn't make me want to claw my eyes out. All I want is something neat like camera+ for iOS, is it too much to ask?

Sounds like opportunity knocking, better get yourself an Android SDK and a few development/programming books and crank out such an app - there's money to be made, man!

Does that mean no 3rd party cam app will likely ever operate acceptably with it?
Hope not, I was counting on some manual control options (that aren't in stock) to try and squeeze out some quality from this cam.
Give Focal a try.
I'm generally "not happy" with the camera so far (understatement). So far "A better camera" is the best. Here's what I've tried, I'll try to be brief:
Stock camera sort of focuses but can still be blurry, and sucks at low light and the menu stinks.
Focal isn't able to focus well.
Moto X camera seems to work but is lacking in options.
Camera FV-5 looks like a nice camera app with tons of features, but had a couple force closes and the demo is WAY too limiting to see if I can actually get a decent shot out of it. If android had a longer return period for purchases I would try it out.
A Better Camera does a good job of focusing and taking a sharp picture. It's fast and so far, has some nice features, the UI looks a little low res, but that's pretty minor.
if anyone has any others to comment about, please share.

The phone has been out for less than a week. Give the devs the chance to at least update the apps.
If you're new to the nexus line, better get used to this. Your phone gets android updates first, which means that at Day0 of each update a lot of your 3rd party apps will stop working
Maybe the camera app from LG G2 is worth a try?
The camera apps are buggy. Maybe due to the bad auto focus in the stock camera ? Hopes this gets fix because when it focus right the pictures are gorgeous from looking at the screen.

Try Lenovo Super Camera app. I used it on S3 and it kept crashing however on N5 its working a lot better than the stock app. I didn't try all mods and effects however I tested HDR mode and kind of liked it better than stock HDR+ but YMMV ... so give it a shot ... installs like a regular apk. Please post your experience here as I just got my phone a few hours ago so still looking for best apps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2427015
P.S. By the way I am using 3.1.3 and since its working I am not going to bother updating to 3.5.5
My problem is the lack of burst mode on the stock camera. Other than that and the limited settings, I'm quite happy with the way the shots come out. I've tried a few 3rd party apps so far with burst shot but they all seem to be geared towards slower phones so they tend to severely reduce output quality to compensate.
Come on Google....sort the camera app.
Maybe a petition might help?

Thanks. Another thread pointed to a v2.2 at this link . Not sure what changes there. Will continue to play with this.
What is the difference in the versions? Will things like auto HDR work?
I don't know the change, you'd have to reference the Russian forum and even with Google translate I haven't quite tracked the dialog. aHDR is working fine, based off another XDA thread the slow-motion camera isn't working.
Hey guys, sorry to give you a screenshot of the picture comparison but I'm a bit lazy today and forgot to turn off the geo-location tags. Hopefully i get some more shots in later this weekend and post back later.
I'm using the v1.4 the original GCAM app from the XDA article. I can't say that I trust the v2.2 from the Russian site at the moment so sorry again. If it gets updated and the XDA article says it was updated I'll be more willing to try the v2.2 app.
What you see is the Essential app on the left versus the GCAM app on the right. I prefer what I've seen from the Essential app but in actual usage the GCAM works much faster and believe it or not feels more stable. As you can see there is definitely a difference in picture quality especially around the glass and text. Mind you I'm coming from a Pixel XL so that is my frame of reference as far as what I should be expecting from both apps. From looking at the picture versus what my eye is seeing the GCAM is more true to my eye, however I find the light/dark balance more pleasing on the Essential app. Personally I really hope Essential gets it together because from what I've read the GCAM software doesn't make use of the monochromatic lens and I think that if someone can combine the best function of both apps we as the users would be the real winners.
If I can get more shots without the metadata in it I'll be sure to post them up. Otherwise I'm subscribed to this thread so I can keep up with the latest updates for the GCAM app.
I cannot get this to install for some reason. The when screen is unresponsive when I try tapping the install button.
Edit: toggling unknown sources again seemed to do the trick
Just messing around with my Essential camera between GCam 1.4 (aHDR first) and EP (HDR second)... You can clearly see the difference in low light...
Neither are great but GCam turned out better.
The next 2 are from my OnePlus 5...GCam 1.4 (aHDR third) and then OPO (aHDR last)
Man OPO looks worse (and even GCam is somehow worse on it as well...) also it looks like OPO goes to the pink side with Gcam but not its stock cam. The EP Cam just look bad all around lol.

Honestly I don't think Essential is better. :-/
I think I'm going to return mine.
The download links are unable to locate mirrors so I cannot try either version of the camera app listed in this thread. Am I missing something or were these files already taken down?
Got mine 2 days ago and installed the 2.2 Gcam. Personally I don't notice too much difference but then again I'm a colorblind old man. Just had this happen when I opened the Essential Cam and a reboot fixed it. I haven't been able to reproduce it yet.
I tried the 4.4v with zero shutter lag that B-S-G had posted on another forum here. So far it seems to be working quite well, it's nice to have the google interface again and it seems to take better photos, though I'm terrible at photos in general so it's hard for me to tell.

The name is a misleading, the variant linked in the article is 1.4. "4.4" I believe refers to the Google versioning of the app, not the port versioning.
Hey guys and girls,
just wanted to know if the gcam mod for op6 will get better when Google releases the official gcam app for the pixel 3. or will it be easier for developers to get better results for the op6 gcam mod?
will the devs of gcam mod stop their work on the present mod because it is based on the sd835 gcam app? if so then why do the devs even work on the mod now and up until the official sd845 gcam app instead of saying "there will be no gcam mod for the op6 until Google releases the official gcam app for the pixel3 (sd845). we will begin working on this project once the 845 app is available".
are the devs working on the gcam mod just because they are so kind/helpful/... that they spend lots of their free time just to get a working mod right away instead of waiting for the actual app that Google will release shortly? or will all the development into the present app help the devs once the sd845gcam.app is out?
And when did Google release the gcam app for the pixel 2 last year - together with the phone release or was the software available before the phone release?
lots of questions,
would love some clarification!
thanks so much,
v.
The whole thread belongs in the original thread. How a forum should work, so you speak to the developers directly..
1: it might
2: it might
3: they would probably stop using that base.. But keep some things in the code. (might)
4. Well... There are things you just don't know if they even will work properly or not when developing something. There are people in this world that just want to TRY make stuff better or just have fun with it. It's like saying there is no need to save people from starving because we will never succeed... And we therefore don't even care for trying..
5. Sigh... .. Peace out.
thx for answering,
I did think about posting my questions in the thread you mention. but I figured it's too much off topic. I didn't want to interrupt the actual development thread as I'm not helping the thread with useful info regarding the mod.
thanks for your reply,
v.
Well, it's good but the autofocus is slow and not accurated, sometimes got tint pic and the Portraid Mod is bugged (crashed and freeze). Other than that, the CameraAPI is not used so no full features like 4K 60fps etc. and more scalable resolution for photo camera.
This is a very important question, to the point if i keep the phone or not....
