Experience with GPS and compass - Moto G8 Plus Questions & Answers

Hello,
Since my old Moto G5S+ have problems with My current Moto G5S+ has problems with GPS breaking off during navigation.
After research I found out that it could be the missing compass.
That's why I would now like to switch to the Moto G8+. However, I have not found any experience with this.
Do any of you use the MotoG8+ for navigation and have there been or will there be problems?
Before I buy the phone, I'd like to do some research.
Best regards
Mallefix

External GPS Antenna?

Does anyone know if there is an external GPS antenna available for the Touch Pro? I was looking at all the posts on this forum, especially regarding lag time on the Pro and GPS and I wondered if this might help to reduce it?
I also want to say at least once that I have lurked here for years and apprecaite all the good know how that is here.
Also want to say that with CoPilot 7 I have not had a terrible time with the Pro. It does take it a good 60 seconds to find some satellites, but once it does the program works well. I do like my Pro quite a bit, having previously had 2 ETEN phones, a G500+ and then most recently an X500+ and I do think the ETEN GPS works better.
Using an external Bluetooth GPS receiver with SirfStar III chipset will eliminate problems with GPS lag.

sat nav with gps or external gps

Hi all,
not been here for ages. anyhow,
i am getting a varioIV on saturday, i was wondering should i carry on using my sat nav (if it works) with the external gps unit or use it with the phones gps.
i ask because i have breifly read about lag with internal gps, and it would be no big issue for me to use the external still.
if i want to use the internal i can use it with google maps or something.
i am actually dilemming over the touch pro or touch HD.
any suggestions greatfully appreciated.

Use either depending upon the access of the situation.
An external unit will provide a faster performance and a better receiver thereby returning better precision. When not in a car and at a much slower pace, use the internal when you need a quick fix for a location.
GPS issue
Great Question, the forums are full of fear for the built in gps on touch pro devices! However the vast majority of these quotes are 2008, I just picked up an 02 serra (touchpro) and it works great, the first ever gps link on googlemaps took about 5 minutes and the second ten miles away was around fifteen seconds. My tomtom gps receiver has been gifted to my (happy!) eleven year old!
Hmm, if you ask me, I would recommend trying the internal GPS first to see whether it works to your liking or not, then buying an external receiver if it doesn't.
See, I prefer internal GPS due to sheer convenience. I only have to charge one device and I only have to carry one device. However, it is true that external GPS receivers are just way better. I have an i.Trek M6 GPS receiver that works so well, it can get a signal deep inside my house, and it can do it quickly. The Touch Pro, on the other hand, eh...
Concerning the Touch Pro/HD, I would prefer the HD, but that's because I love WVGA phones. They're definitely not for everyone, though, and I would suggest you research each device carefully in order to make an informed decision.
thanks for your suggestions guys,
i have co pilot from my old vario 2 days just move it along with each phone.
i will keep this in the car and use that. then when im out and about i will use google maps with the internal gps.
as for my decision, i like them both i am unsure of the size and practicality of the HD but love the screen and hope the interface is good.
but i really love the qwerty key vario 4.
and i know beleive the HD is free on t-mobile woohoo.
it is also the carrying aspect HD big (ish) and the touch pro fat(ish) i think i will go and see them in the store.
thanks....

GPS software

Hi!
I want to buy a 2nd hand Touch Pro, to use as a GPS.
I want to know what's the best and fast GPS software for this device.
Thanks!
tomtom seem to be liked by many
google maps
its free
Navicomputer is awesome if you don't have a data plan. Hell, it's awesome if you do have a data plan.
Hum tomtom or navicomputer... ok.
What about IGO?
Do you think that is a good device to replace my touch dual?
The earlier problems with GPS lag are solved??
Thanks!
I just bought Copilot Live 8 for $24.99. It's on sale right now and was $20 around thanksgiving. The reviews I saw for it seemed pretty good too.
sorry to change the subject, but why not buy a stand-alone GPS device? it will be cheaper and you'll most likely have a larger screen and a louder speaker than what's on the touch pro.
I also think that if u want to use it only as gps, just buy a gps, it's better then any pda. If u want to use the other functions of the touch pro tho, the gps in it is not that bad
and to the question - i use IGO 8, very good software with very good maps
If I buy the TPro, it will replace my Touch Dual.
Then, I wont need to have a solo GPS device.
OK, between TomTom or IGO, wich one is faster?
Depending on where you're located, I would also add Garmin Mobile XT if you're in the US.
It performs just as good as the Nuvi standalone units and uses the same, trustworthy routing system.
It also has nice online features, such as traffic, gas prices, google local search, etc.
I also love iGo's interface, especially since you can have different skins to make it even better. The biggest downfall for me is the routing. Some of the routes it has picked for me just don't make sense. And also the ETA on trips always seems to be off until you're close to your destination.
I liked iGo and Destinator! I used them on the Kaiser and liked how they work!

[Q] Bluetooth Bracelet Software Tweaks

Not completely sure if this is the right spot for this, but since I'm looking mainly for an Android fix, I figured it would be the best place to start.
Months ago I found out about the Sony BT wristwatch they manufactured to work with their line of smartphones. I came across and application made here on XDA that expanded the functionality and even worked on multiple OS's. Since the model I am looking for doesn't exist any more, I stumbled upon a similar device that is a bluetooth bracelet and I am curious if anyone has, is, or would consider working on a similar app to expand the functionality to show more than just who called you

[Q] Will a custom rom help with input lag?

Hi,
I just purchased a Moto G XT1032 (Canada Telus Prepaid if it matters) and it came with 4.4.4 out of the box. I'm coming from a Nexus 5 and I understand the Moto G is not built to compete with the N5 but I'm disappointed with the touch response or I think "input lag". Although I have a Nexus 5, I've never rooted or flashed any custom rom before so I have no idea if that will help on the Moto G.
I'm satisfied with the performance of the Moto G except when it comes to just the general input lag which I'm not really sure is a result of the cpu/gpu/memory. I have an older slower single core Windows 7 phone which is able to keep up with my finger location.
To demonstrate my issue, if you go into developer settings and set pointer location on and then move your finger quickly across the screen, the pointer location is always about half a centimeter behind my finger trail. On the N5 the pointer location is always tracking my finger. I can't outrun it. This happens at all time, even right after a reboot, so it's not due to cpu/memory suffocation. I just wonder if it's Android in general throttling the system to keep the system from avoiding lag or if it's just a touch driver issue?
Would trying a custom rom help? My brother has the same Moto G and the input lag is the same on his so I highly doubt my device is defective. I have a few more days to return the device. Again I'm not complaining about the performance of the device in general, I just wish it would register my finger movements more quickly. I play Wordaments a lot which isn't an intensive game, but the audio/visual feedback of my finger movement does help me keep my rhythm/tempo going. Even on my very old Windows Phone 7 LG Quantum, which is a single core 800MHz or 1GHz, I can score better because of the audio/visual feedback is faster. Also tried a new game last night called Sky Force 2014 and found it very aggrivating to play on the Moto G. The ship I'm controlling moves delayed compared to my finger location.
I do not have the maginification gesture set to on, so it can't be that either.
Thank you.
Edit: Just tried the same stuff on my mother's Samsung Galaxy S2 with 4.1.2 stock which is a slow device and it had just as quick finger/pointer location tracking as my Nexus 5. So this must clearly be a touch driver issue. I'm just looking for someone who can confirm that a custom rom can improve the touch input lag on the Moto G, so I can better decide whether to keep it and try experimenting with it or rather just accept that the touch hardware is capped at this speed and should return it.
Edit #2: The N5 and SGS2 have screen protectors, while the Moto G's and the LG Quantum are bare glass. The SGS2 is 480x800 to the Moto G's 720x1280 so it does have an advantage in that the gpu has less pixels to draw but still in the case of the pointer location it's not really drawing much, just a cross-hair and pointer trail.
I think you have a defective unit. Return it and get another one. Mine works like a boss so... Good luck
I have no imput lag too, maybe it's just your device and you should try warranty.
Thanks for the input guys. I must be quite unlucky, I bought the other one for my brother over a month ago and they both behave the same. He came from a Samsung Discover so he doesn't care.
