Hi,
Is there an app or way to add some padding to the bottom end of the display so that the apps don't go behind the round corners of the display at the bottom?
Like the navigation bar but without the navigation. I'd still want to use the gestures...
Thanks in advance,
B

yea that's a bit annoying .. you would think that the clowns that designed curves and rounded corners would be a bit smarter.

isn't that something that android should support?

I am hoping someone knows how to get out of that black "window" screen (the one that only shows the information in the window) when on a phone call. I had to press 1 for something and couldn't figure out how to get to the dial pad! I thought I was loving this case… now I am not so sure… my city on the smart screen was correct this morning but now the temperature won't update! I might end up turning off the smart case…

I think I figured out that the black screen came up because I folded the front cover flap around to the back while I was on the phone. I guess the magic works that way, too! Lol!

Yes.Some covers have the magnet so strong it acts from the back side too.
Agree. Get used to folding it flat so the spine sticks out left, and when you lay it flat the magnet doesn't interfere.
Try not to round out or create additional bends in the spine and you will be in good shape.
My other black cover (the other cover vendor in my case recommendations post) is constantly triggering black and the window which makes my gold cover even more sweet.

I am laying it very flat on the back but it immediately triggers the black screen. Maybe because it is still so new. It looks goofy if I talk with the cover open. I know you can talk with the cover closed and that will probably work in most instances except when you want to access other functions while still on the call... Because if you open the cover while on the call problems ensue... I will figure it out...

I figured out what you meant. You have to fold the front cover back in a way that makes it offset to the left underneath. As long as it doesn't meet the back exactly centered it doesn't trigger the black screen. The only problem is that my hand is kinda too small to handle those extra millimeters on the left! Still figuring it out!

You get my poor use of the English language absolutely correct. (No excuse, relatives came over in 1620 so I should know how to write )
It is a learned behavior to get the left offset trick to work consistently

Hi guys,
Do you know if there is some way to customize the smart cover window? Change background, add widgets and so on. I can't find anything like that in settings...

There is permanent solution albeit it needs a little handiwork http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63927325&postcount=36

Unfortunatelly there is no options to customize this window, I'm very sad, my previous phone was an LG G Flex, and there was several customization options for this window.
Hi all.
Sorry my first post on reddit so hoping it is correct
Im thinking about buying the Oneplus 7T pro Mclarn. But I have read some posts about the round edges on the screen.
Are you tired of it?
Thanks!
Regards Daniel
Nope
No. They don't bother me even after ~3 months of use. Wouldn't mind them even when the time comes for a replacement. But I'd prefer a flat normal display if it was offered.
No.
No.
I was very annoyed by the rounded edges on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge but I barely notice the edges on the OnePlus 7 Pro.
I thought they were going to annoy me initially but to be honest, I don't even notice them anymore.
Nope
Haven't even noticed after a few months...
I consider myself round edges hater. It's just stupit. I wish the screen was normal.
That being said, the display is just too good... I'm unable to get annoyed by the round edges when everything else is just so good.
My main problem with the edges is the issues finding a working screen protector. Whitestone dome was tend to break on Pixel 2 XL even if i treated the phone very carefully.
I was sure OP7's rounded edges will cause problems, but luckily enough, Whitestone dome glass on this phone holds fantastic. No flaws whatsoever!
YES ! It's horrible! And the phone has round corners too ! That it's ugly too.
Yes and I find it pointless. Just as pointless as curved screens.

Yeah I'd be happy to see this trend go away and return to 16:9 display where all content scales correctly.
I'm Happy with edge to edge screen. NO to curved screen. Also a smaller phone/screen. Trend it's going to 7" screen. That's to much! Phone do not fit in any pocket.
A LED, like a thin line, on one side or both sides to signal notification, ..
Maybe to implement the new model of battery which it will be smaller and light weight.
I hate the rounded corner and edges. I'm going to get the 7T when they get TWRP working for it.
I love it, it gives a much smoother feeling. I reached the point , that I'm even looking for rounded corners in the apps, but unfortunately there's no always choice. Firefox, dialer, contacts.., etc look so "not matching" with the phone, with the sharp corners. I wish I could be able to make my own apps and rom too
I also thought at the first time, that it's not nice, like an old tv, that had this rounded corners and I was afraid that it gives that oldschool feeling, but I was wrong, saying after few months.
Didn't take long before I ordered a rear case. Found it uncomfortable without.
I think it makes large phones feel smaller and elegant
So no, I like it
I'm good with it, good thing as I'll hang on to it for a while
Personally not a fan of the rounded edges, but I'm fine with it relative to damned notches. I refuse to buy any phone with a notch and am glad to see that trend generally leaving.
Sad to see hole punches sticking around and made the choice to get the 7T Pro much easier (than waiting for the hole smacked 8).
Yes, I'm not a fan at all, it interferes with the way I like to hold the phone. I got used to them and now only sporadically I have issues with accidental touches etc., but I would prefer them to go away.
Definitely no longer a dealbreaker, because I love the phone otherwise, but annoyance nonetheless.
So after fully setting up with all my apps, I find that the swiping is a bit crappy. The nav gestures doesn't seem to be that responsive. Even when typing using Fleksy, swiping to space works 7 times out of 10.
Does anybody else have this experience? Should I just rip off the screen protector?
touch / swiping works fine, no issues here

The screen protector is fine, among the best I've ever seen and I'm thankful for buying a phone that doesn't make me rush to buy a tempered glass and a case.
The problem is that Xiaomi won't let you set the sensitivity of the nav gestures and they only work on the bottom part of the phone, so you can't swipe to back anywhere on the screen, only the lower parts. As to why they don't let us tweak that is beyond me.
Yeah, I've already reached out to the Fleksy devs and just have to play around with their sensitivity.
The other thing about nav gestures is I just have learned how sensitive (or not) the side gestures and bottom gesture area.
Would prefer if I can tweak the sides to be a bit more sensitive and the bottom less, but ehh have to live with it I guess.
And yeah, after how ever long it was since I posted this, have to agree that the screen protector is quite good.
The quality of the screen protector itself is utter garbage, I agree. It's plasticky, picks up smudges and skin grease very easily up to the point it becomes difficult to use the phone in direct sunlight if the screen brightness isn't high enough.
But as for swiping... I haven't noticed too much, I find it even better and more responsive than my previous phone (Realme 6).
Does a bare screen without any protector feel/look better in any significant way?

Without the protector the screen feel sticky... Not a smooth swipe especially when your finger a bit wet...
hi guys, is possible to hide punch hole? i think on the op8 you can do that (i think it makes a black bezel on top and move down all icons in a "new" status bar). if so, can you share a screenshot if you can please? I'd like to buy this phone, but only if i can hide the hole, i hate them... thanks!

Yes. Goto setting>display>advanced>front camera display area. This is where that option is.

thanks you rock!!
This is probably a small thing to other people but it is not to me.
I selected the Sony XPeria 5 III specifically because based on looking at photos I believed it had a rectangular screen (IE, no rounded corners). After setting mine up today, there is a small but definite rounded edge to the screen. This is the case even if I disable the Android-level screen corners (`adb shell settings put secure sysui_rounded_size 1` / `adb shell settings put secure sysui_rounded_content_padding 5`).
I am now thinking this is not something Android is doing but is the physical shape of the screen. If I take screenshots, the screenshots do not have corners, and if I shine a bright light on the screen when it is off, there is a difference in texture between the screen and the bezel, and the "screen textured" part has curved corners.
The rounded corners really bug me when I am trying to read. Is this the actual screen shape? Am I just screwed?
Looks slightly rounded to me... which I hate.
The Note 10+ and the Note 20U are both square cornered, a rarity.
I wonder if there's some way I can just make the device pretend it's 5 pixels shorter at the top and bottom, so I can't see the curves.

So it turns out there used to be an "overscan" property you could set with ADB
Control android screen display with WM – Android Helpdesk
That could make the screen slightly larger or smaller than the displayed area, like
adb.exe shell wm overscan 0,-10,0,-10
But Google removed it in Android 11! The wm tool is still present but it appears the only thing it can do is set screen scaling, which is not useful to me. I saw a thread where someone suggested there was a way to get overscan back, but it required rooting.
But this is a Sony device, so rooting is gonna break the camera, right?

I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Many vids don't extend to the corners anyway.
Truth be told the case I use on the N10+ actually covers a small portion of the display's corners. It's required for proper protection.

As it turns out I don't watch videos on my phone... I spend 90% of my time on the phone in the Kindle and Libby ebook apps, where it just floods the screen with white... so the corners stand out really strongly.

Dark mode would help; don't burn up your retinas. I hate white screens...
