What's the sensor in between 108mp and 12mp camera? - Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro Questions & Answers

The sensor in oval shape with 2 dots, what is it? I've searched online and found nothing that points to a TOF sensor. Does anyone knows what it does? infrared, perhaps?

Must be the same as located on the right from the cameras on MI Note 10/Pro.
Laser ?

laser? what for? never heard or read about a smarphone having a laser.

For autofocus. It has been a thing since the LG G3 in 2014.

[Q] Nexus 5 OIS fisheye

Hi,
when using a fisheye or any other add on lenses on the nexus 5, the ois makes the image shake and unfocused. Does anyone know if it is possible to turn ois off?

There is a thread in general advising that the Nexus 5 isn't designed for add on lenses. Perhaps the magnetic ring around our camera is for OIS and that the magnetic lenses cause an issue? I don't know I have no interest in it so I haven't read the thread, but have a look.

Dual Lens Question

Hi,
Huawei says that both lenses combine to take richer photos.
Does it really work that way? What happens when u take a photo with one of the lenses covered vs uncovered?
I seem. To see no difference. So to me it seems the second lens is useless. Only for bokeh?

Ultra-wide angle camera color science is off?

Apart from the frustrating fact that you can't record video and that the ultra-wide lens isn't very wide, the colors and seem to be extremely off in the comparisons I've seen to the point that I don't know if it's solvable through a software update. Maybe fixing the distortion and the super low saturation through software will somewhat save it, I don't know. Heck, even Mi 9 has a clearly superior ultra-wide WITH recording. What do you think? Does anyone that has the phone have a different experience? I want to buy this phone, but at this point in my country it's about the same price as a S10+ (Exynos) and I'm struggling to make a decision.
I wish GCam mods come early to save this mess.

I cannot answer specifically to the 7 Pro, but I can tell you that the colour science is off on my now-sold Galaxy S10 Plus Exynos version. Switching between the main lens and the wide angle lens in the same exact lighting and spot yields different colour reproduction. It might be down to the actual lens used in junction with the software, but I can safety say that this problem isn't exclusive to the 7 Pro if anything.
Also, don't buy the Exynos version of the S10. It has garbage battery life, and has different camera lenses to the SD version that have shown to be inferior to the SD version.
There is a setting in the camera called "Ultra Wide Lens Correction." I wonder if testers are switching this setting to see if this is the issue. I just got mine, but it's night time right now so I will need some time to test (but I only have the LG G7 ThinQ to compare to.)

Yes, but at least every other wide angle camera in the market gives decent results. 7 Pro's results are very undersaturated, very soft and sometimes seem like out of focus.
I know about the S10+. If it was a Snapdragon version I would have already bought it.

Great! Post some samples when you can. I'm not that worried about the lens correction, I don't mind the distortion. My problem is mainly the saturation and softness of detail. If you can, post original results + "corrected" versions using Snapseed/Photoshop to check if some post-processing saves the day at least. Thank you in advance!

Beauty of OnePlus and this wonderful community is the fact that there'll be GCam for it very soon, and we'll undoubtedly be able to take amazing shots through GCam using the wide angle lens.

It really depends. It might not be fixable with gcam.
The main camera uses a pretty good sensor. But it is a different sensor for the wide angle lens. So the quality of the wide angle shots will heavily depend on the quality of the sensor they use for their wide angle lens. It might be a weak sensor, we don't know right now. Huawei uses 4 Sony sensors for example, their wide angle pictures are pretty good. And yes, the best hardware is useless without a good software. But the best software also can't fix a bad sensor.
Not saying that it is a bad sensor, it's just that we don't know by now. We might have to wait for a teardown and some talented devs to see what is inside and if it is fixable.
I can only link you the specs from dxomark:
Primary: 48Mp Sony IMX586 sensor (12Mp output size), 26mm-equivalent lens with f/1.6 aperture and OIS
Ultra-wide: 16Mp sensor, 17mm-equivalent lens with f/2.2 aperture
Telephoto: 8Mp sensor, 78mm-equivalent lens with f/2.4 aperture and OIS

Question Something moving inside my pixel 7 pro

Hi everybody,
i noticed something inside is not in place when i shake my pixel 7 pro.
Do you notice the same thing when you shake your pixel 7 pro ?
I suppose it's camera related. Maybe the lens.
I don't know if it's an issue to everybody. My photo module is well fixed and nothing move, i don't know if it's the lens. It seems to be inside. All i can say is that my pixel 7 pro is new ( less than 5 days) and he never fell down
Likely the OIS sensor from the telephoto zoom lens.

Nah, don't worry about it.
This is why your Pixel 6/6 Pro makes noise when you shake it
Is your Pixel 6 or 6 Pro making a weird clicking sound when you shake it? You're not alone. Here's what it is.
9to5google.com
It's the telephoto. Had the same issue with the S21 Ultra, and likely the S22 Ultra but never had one so can't confirm. If rooted there was a fix for the S21 Ultra if I recall, not sure the same would apply to the 7 Pro.
"issue" has been around in some phones since the S20 Ultra
it's the telephoto lense
Thank you everybody for you answers ! So no need to worry about that

this is how mine rattles, it sounds worse in the video though. I think it's normal.
Every phone with a telephoto I've used has the same rattle. Not a problem.
Just noticed I have the same issue and was admittedly pissed until I read this thread. What's weird is it wasn't doing this out of the box it somehow eased into doing this... I went through all the Sounds files for ringtones last night ... Wonder if the vibrations loosen something up. Glad you posted though
I directly checked mine and it also has this "issue". But I also checked my Huawei P30 Pro which also has tele, but there is nothing.

I'm pretty confident it was, you simply didn't notice it.
You can try and trigger the OIS on the telephoto and hear if the sound is as alarming as before, and just to make sure, go to 30x zoom and not 5x, Google doesn't always trigger the telephoto lens.
It's either the Telephoto lens or the Image stabilization. It's not an "issue". Completely normal.
Even if I shake my 1200$ DSLR lens I'll hear similar rattling inside (mechanical parts moving, image stabilization is mechanical)
Google (well whoever makes the periscope lens) have done a good job with the Pixel 7 Pro i reckon, the noise is quite subdued, the Pixel 6 Pro however sounded like a rattle and Bez could have used it at a Happy Mondays gig.

For those who get this reference, will certainly get the reference
Now Jerryrigeverything has ripped a P7P to bits you can see why the periscope lens rattles.

I have fallen down my Pixel, and I noticed the noise, and I found this post.
Maybe some noise is not by the OIS? I have made some tests.
1. Use 5x camera. Shake from left to right.
2. Use 5x camera. Shake from front to back.
3. Use 1x camera. Shake from left to right.
4. Use 1x camera. Shake from front to back.
As in the video.
Your browser is not able to display this video.
I noticed that only "1" has no noise, maybe the reason is the OIS is being used?
All the other "2 3 4" has noise, the "4" 's noise in the video is not so clear, but actually it's the same with "2".
The noise between "Shake from left to right" and "Shake from front to back" is different. Maybe the noise of "Shake from front to back" is caused by my fallen down's breaks, not by the OIS? I am so disturbing...

Question Too much reflection on camera;

Hi guys... I realised that p7pro have more reflection vs p6pro...
Fotos are almost unusable ...
Is there any chance Google can fix this as Vivo x80 pro does;
Even Samsung has an extra future at Samsung's gallery where you can delete reflections
No reflections here? Night photos with lights in them as well and I don't have any reflections. An issue with your lens?

It's not an "issue" it's a light flare on the lens.

My man is too too much compare 14 pro max and Vivo x80 pro
So, just looked at photos with an 13 pro and a 14 pro to compare. There were no flares or reflections.
I'd suggest starting with cleaning your lens.

I'll post something after I've eaten
This is one thing I've noticed on the camera, and the only thing I'm disappointed in. Bright lights often result in a purple flare. A few reviews have picked up on it too.
