Hi all,
The last couple of weeks I am having issues charging my phone (HTC U12+), at first I thought it was the charge or the wire, today I got the Mrs phone, which is the same as mine, brought on the same day directly from HTC, running the same firmware, then I got a few different charges, some Quick Charge 2.0 Samsung Genuine, and some Quick Charge 3.0, HTC genuine, and a variaty of good quality wires, and they all work as expected on her phone, Quick Charge 3.0 charged fine up to about 3000mA, I plugged in my phone, at first it shows about 2500mA, that's with the Quick Charge 3.0 chargers, then withing less then a minute I goes down to about 1000mA, and it shows high mV and high temp, please see attached screenshot, the app I have used and always use to test it all is AccuBattery Pro, and by the way do do know that tge battery charges slow for the last 20% or so, but as you can see in the screenshot the battery is bellow that, and when I started the test the battery was at about 25%...
Is the battery on the way out or what?
Thanks

Anyone?
Well, charge speed depends on several parameters.
If your battery is pretty full it's going to slow down charging.
The fastest charge I seem to get is when it's really low on juice.

I have decided to move this post from the issues thread to a dedicated one to give it better visibility. If no one else is getting this problem then I will probably return the device.
I have the excellent "devstate" today plugin application installed which gives the battery charge level in 1% steps. When I say slow, it takes around 3 mins to increase by 1% which means it will take 4 hours for 80% charge (too long) when this is the case, the back doesn't heat up.
I have seen it charge much faster on one occasion i.e. around 1% a minute and the back was warming up (this is logical if more current is flowing) I was wondering the cause of the slow charge is that the device thinks it is connected to a pc and the charging current is limited. Also when you plug the cable sometimes the menu pops up asking whether you want to enter activesync/disk drive mode but doesn't on other occasions. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.
Another observation is that a soft reeboot occasionaly gives wildly varying battery levels for example before reboot the charge might be 100% and straight after the reboot 90%, or 83% before and 100% after. Interestingly before turning on the device for the first time I fully charged the battery, but up on boot up it was reporting 60%! (maybe it didn't charge at all when it was switched off and 60% was the initial amount of charge the battery came with) Have I got a duff battery or some issue with the device itself?
I seems like the battery charges fast up to 75% at around 1% a minute but then slows down to 1% every 3 to 4 minutes. Maybe this is the charging profile for this battery. Has anyone else noticed this?
Here are a couple of threads from the diamond section regarding the sort of issues I am experiencing but there doesn't seem to be a conclusive fix.

Could people please answer the following questions to help me decide whether I have a faulty device/battery or some ROM issue which all of us have. I have the stock UK touch pro ROM 1.90.405.1 WWE.
1) If you fully charged the battery before powering on for the first time, what was you battery charge level immediately after power on?
2) Have you noticed fluctuating charging rates?
3) Soft reboot gives different battery charge levels.
Just a quick Q, which charger are you using? Can you just post the amp / volt data printed onto it for us?
I am using the one that came with the touch pro, model no TC P300, its output rating is 5V at 1A. Input rating 100-240V
I have also tried the mda vario III charger and I get similar results i.e. fast charge up to 75% then slow afterwards.
As i stated in the other tread with the "Raphael issues" i have the same problem.
When i use the shiny new charger with the "usb-mini usb" cable i takes 7-8 hours to completely charge the device. (output is 5V-1A)
However, when i use my good old Hermes charger, or any other 5V-1A charger, it goes to 100% in about 3 hours.
Mine charges up to 90% from 10% in less than 3 hours after which it stays @ 90% (According to the built in battery meter of the device) forever. Is it a faulty battery or its supposed to be like that?

And do you get varying battery levels on soft reboot?
3 hours is probably what I would get i.e. "75% at 1% a minute = 75 mins" PLUS "25% at 1% every 4 mins = 100 mins" giving a total of 175 mins.
question is that is this behaviour normal for touch pro or only present on
some device/battery/chargers.
I also have another issue, this time regarding interference on speaker, see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419761
If only my touch pro has these faults then I want to replace it asap, especially when having paid £500 for it.

Yes i do get varying levels on reboot, but i got that with my Hermes and Magician too. So i wouldn't worry about it. Usually when you softreset while it's charging you get a higher battery reading then you should have, but it wil drop after some time to it's real level.

This happens when its not charging. I don't get this with the vario III. Maybe it is ROM dependant. The other concern was after having charged the device fully when switched off, it reported 60% on power up. I might let the battery drain to a low level then charge when switched off to see whether it charges at all. Some diamond owners were also reporting this.
Hmm, got the same thing tonight with my Hermes charger, has been charging for 6 hours and still not fully charged, now at about 80%. Very strange. Are there more people experiencing this?

This didn't appear to happen to me on the first charge, but I turned it on immediately after putting the battery and SIM in place, and then I charged (I don't remember what the initial battery charge was). I've not noticed such wildly inaccurate readings after reboot either. I haven't specifically checked for inaccuracy in the battery meter, but I would (probably) have noticed such a big difference.
Have you tried to do a full discharge and charge cycle? This is necessary after around every 30th charge to recalibrate the gauge so that it is as accurate as possible. I know yours probably haven't gone through 30 charges yet, but it may be worth trying.

This is normal for lithium-ion batteries. The last 20% or so can take as long as the first 80% to charge.

When charging I usually leave mine overnight, so I think I've only charged it once during the day, and then I think this was through USB while connected to the PC so it may have been a bit longer than 'normal' (3-4 hours) for that reason. I'll keep an eye at it next time I do it during the day.
Six hours plus sounds far too long though, do you have a chance of trying the battery in another device, or another battery in your device?

Nope, don't have a second Touch Pro around here, but this is really annoying, I need a fully charged battery in the morning. If this is hardware related i'd return it to get a replacement.
hmm, this is interesting.....so just to clarify we are seeing slower charging with the bundled adapter: which is essentially an AC to USB power transformer?? If the USB port on that (yes i know its power only) is capable of supplying only a standard ammount of juice then your battery may charge to 100% as slowly as from a pc or car charger..
..id like to perhaps see if i can meter the current and voltage coming from it but would need me to cobble together a breadboard with the relevent power points.
Is the hermes / kaiser charger charging it fully in less time?? (to clarify)

Yes I drained the battery till the phone switched off by itself but still have this problem. I suspect there is a problem either with the phone itself or the battery as supposed to a ROM issue. I thought all the clever charging circuit is in the battery these days and it's the battery which reports it's charge level to the device too. If this is true then probably the battery is faulty but I am not going to buy another one just to find out. I'll try to get a replacement for the touch pro tomorrow when the shops open.

It is, but even so the gauge (in the battery) needs recalibration once in a while, hence the full discharge/charge cycle every 30th charge or so (other than that it is recommended to charge li-ion batteries often, and not deplete them fully).
Your next port of call is probably to see if another battery makes a difference.

Today I charged my phone from empty to full while connected to the PC, which took around 3 hours 30 minutes (phone not used except to check charge levels towards the end).
the charging cycle on mine has been a little erratic too.
I put it on charge at 9pm last night, at 6.30 this morning it was at 88%. 9 hours and not fully charged!!...still, 3 hours later and it's on 87%. so I think its more a case of requiring a few charge/discharge cycels to settle the guage down a bit.
This night it fully charged in 5 hours. While yesterday it wasn't completely charged in over 8 hours. There doesn't seem to be a pattern in this.
Yesterday it was showing 48% battery level at one time, a soft reset later 28%, another soft reset and it was 24%. Today I have sent it back for a replacement. Can those people affected by this issue please state where they bought it from, in order to figure out whether it might be a faulty batch. I bought mine from clove technology in the UK.

Mine came from Expansys.be, please let us know your new unit has the same behaviour.
Will do if I get a replacement one, they have satisfy themselves that there is fault first. Will probably take around 3 days. I miss my touch pro already.....
Oh well back to the vario III for the time being, seems cumbersome already in comparison.

Whilst I don't have any exact figures to hand, my hermes charger took about 45 mins (Give or take a little.)
I've been using the standard Raphael charger today and charged from 50% and it's still going after 1 hour 20 mins and only at 90%
I know the final 80% takes a lot longer, but even so.....
in the last week my battery no longer "quick charges". i have 'Ampere' installed so i'm used too seeing it charge at around 2800mA. i vaguely understand that phones charge quicker up to around 80% and then at a slower rate for the remaining - it's not this.
when I plug in the, current starts at ~1300mA and climbs to just under 3000mA... and drops to ~440mA in a minute or so.
it doesn't appear to be the cable and/or charging block that came with the phone - using a 1A charger from my last phone gets similar results and i purchased a new cable that's compatible with high speed charging.
i really wanted to love this phone.
I have a Samsung quick Charger from a Note5, and it has never quick charged my PureXL (actually super slow charges it,) but after the last update, I noticed I got an overvoltage error using it....
The reason is that this phone is not quick charge enabled. That's actually something that needs to be built into the SoC + Kernel support. You have a solid 2A charger, it'll go fast, but it can't rapid draw like say, the premium motos or a OnePlus.

sorry, i don't think i explained myself that well. i'm pretty sure that i've noticed a change in performance. when the phone was new i remember the current being high when battery % was lower, and then decreasing as it charged.
in the last week or so it seems to be charging at a slower rate and with the original 2A charger and cable. if the battery is at 20% the current will increase quickly to something above 2800mA and then immediately decrease so that by the time it's at say 22% charged the current is at a steady 440mA.
oh! ****. i didn't realize that 'quick charge' was actually 'Quick Charge™ by Qualcomm®'.. nice and generic sounding.
my pure xl was doing a full charge in less than 3 hours. as of last week all of a sudden it takes 10 hours to fully charge. using original charger and cable. can anyone shed a light on fixing this problem?

My Nexus 6p is now facing the same problem as yours. It charges less than 3 hours before and all of a sudden two days ago, it has taken 10 hours to fully charge. With all cables and charges faults ruled out, my only guess is the fault lies in the phone. I don't think it is the USB port either. I believe it may be something to do with the software I cannot comprehend. But I currently don't have the time to reflash my ROM. This Resurrection remix ROM served well for the past year.
Currently, my amperage averages out to 350 mA. Sad. I wish someone with knowledge about this can reply to this thread. It seems this question has been lingering here for more than two years already. Are we the only ones who face this problem?
So, I own this phone for a few weeks now and I got pretty frustrated about the battery life on this phone as I was getting 3 hrs of SOT a best.
Then I decided not to stress the battery so much by charging it with the included turbopower 25 charger all the time, and use my old (5V 2.1A) charger overnight instead. Then I was surprised to see my SOT going up to about 4.5-5hrs.
I did some research about fast charging techonlogy and found out that when you fast charge you typically don't get as much charge into a battery as with a slow charge.
I still use the turbo charger when I am short on time, but using my regular one definetely does add more juice to the battery, thus, helping it last throughout the day.

Will definitely try that out. Cuz my usage gets me around 4 -4.5 or even 6 if I read a little. So if this happens for me too I'm gonna get some nice battery life.

Please do report
It doesn't really matter, at least not that significantly... something else is the cause.
Using a turbo charger could change the longevity of the battery, over time, due to heat buildup and breakdown of the internal components due to more stress, but it wouldn't just "get better" switching to standard charger... I charge my phone half the week on a standard charger when at home, and when traveling I use a quick charger. If I am on either at home or on the road for a few weeks at a time and my battery life doesn't change. Well, not because of the charger, but at home I am within 30' of a very high quality WiFi router all the time and essentially never on mobile data, on the road it's the complete opposite.
If you did your researching into Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 (and higher) standards you would see that the issue of batteries not getting a full charge from the original QuickCharge/Fast Charge standard has been remedied with high voltage charging automatically downgraded to "standard" voltage charging during about the last 10% of the charge cycle to allow the battery to cool and take a full charge.
Not doubting your getting better SOT, just your analysis of the reason why are...

Maybe you're right, I'm still monitoring my battery life on both chargers, and with the same usage, my battery does last longer when charging with the regular 5V one. I'm mostly on 3G network data and rarely use wifi, as I'm mostly only sleeping or eating at home. Maybe there are other factors making this difference, though i'm pretty sure the charger is the only difference for me. Will report if I notice anything else.
I don't see any big difference, I'm also using standard charger over night and quick when I'm in the hurry. Despite charging methods my sot time is very inconsistant from 2,5h to 4h at best.
As we all know, the charger xiaomi provided in the box does not support fast charging, although it is quite good. For fast charging we have to use different adapters or powerbanks that support it.
Yesterday when I was using my normal charger, it suddenly showed quick charge and two lightning symbols in the top right corner, which indicates fast charging, that I usually get when using my mi powerbank.
First I thought it was a software flaw but sure enough, my phone was charging at a much faster rate and was heating up similar to when I charge using powerbank.
Unfortunately when I removed the charger and reinserted it, the phone charges at it's normal rate, and I've been unsuccessfully trying to repeat it but it's not happening.
My device is completely unmodified, stock unrooted rom and bootloader locked.
I think this means that the normal adapter might be capable of fast charging but xiaomi has disabled it, something worth looking into.
Also I know the phone charges quite fast below 50%, I saw this effect while phone was at 69% and reached 72% in barely 3 minutes or something.
Unfortunately I did not have the presence of mind to take photos as proof.
first of all if you are using charger which comes in box with the phone, its not a fast charger its only 5V2A.
2nd it can't charge at pace compared to fast chargers as it can only provide 2A at max or it may be faulty
3rd it may be software bug just showing quick charge
and in the end you said it charged from 69 to 72 in 3 min. i can say its not fast charging because my charger 5V2A which came in box also charges at same speed you are saying. it normally takes around 1 min for 1% increase but depends on various factors like load being used currently by the phone.
sometimes when data is off or battery saver os on it charges more quickly as consumption is also less so it charges fast.

It was 2% in one minute, I've attached a ss from telegram group of violet where I reported this for proof. My data and wifi were on, and I've enabled always switch on data for faster switching in developer settings.
Even now it's currently happening, but the rate is very slow, I think it's probably a software bug like you say, any idea why this is happening?
Edit 1: That Telegram ss is from the day where I first created this thread, not today.

i know the time is different but why didn't it increased in screenshots you uploaded the time already changed in both of them but battery remains same 69%. its showing fast charging but its not working I guess
plus maybe your battery health is not good.
SO i;d been neglecting to check fast charging because my charger is european and i'm in Canada. Eventually, i got a oneplus 65W charged and tested to see it in action, alas, no fast charging. After doing the rounds of swapping cables and even trying the original charger with a converter and still not successfully fast charging, i recalled having installed accubattery and it flagging 80% charge. On a whim, i uninstalled it and then tried charging again ; lo and behold, fast charging no problem!.
fast forward a day or two, i check to see if the phone still fast charges and nope, blue orb city . I figured if it wasnt a fluke before tehn maybe its a software thing so restarted the phone, plugged it in and bam, orange orb of fast charging goodness.
it;s been a few days and ive had teh chance to se ethis in action consistently (charge, blue orb, reboot phone and orange orb).
Anyone experienced something like this and know what could be causing it ?
I'm on RMX3370_11_A.06 (2022.01.19)
My next steps will be the painful uninstalling apps one by one to see what the culprit may be assuming it is an app
Fast charging speed only for sometime . then it going back to normal charging speed. Accubattery show s that. Charging rate around 3500ma. Not 6500ma
I think Realme is doing this for the health of the battery... It's the same behaviour on other devices from BBK, Xiaomi and so on...

Our phone has two cell battery and they both are are charged simultaneously to increase charging speed, Accubattery can only measure one of the cell, That is the reason it shows Estimated capacity of 2500mAh wheras in reality we have 5000maH (2500+2500)
Also for fast charging,
1) Environment should not be too hot.
2) Close background Apps.
3) Put phone on Airplane Mode.
4) Dont use phone while charging.
Thanks, bro. Okkkk that's why my estimated battery capacity shows ~2480 something like that. My mobile took almost 50 minutes for 0-100 % . Even though I'm very happy with that speed. Is anyone planning to install the beta version of 13ui? Please don't. Many apps not working properly. Camscanner is the worst one affected. I tried almost every latest version of camscanner . but no luck. . Battery life and performance seems fine.
