OxygenOS (10) without GApps ? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, I tried custom ROMs to get rid of Google service (and use MicroG) but I miss OxygenOS and every ROMs have bugs (or drain battery super fast).
Is there a OxygenOS version without GApps ?
I've heard of "GSI" images, I don't know how to deal with that, thx for helping.

It's called HydrogenOS, it's official and can be downloaded here:

Rooting Pie?

I have a question. I want to root my phone (upgraded from oreo to pie, stock), but i'm not sure what should i do. Should i use oreo rooting instructions? I can't find any tutorial for rooting on pie. I don't want to change my rom, i just want to have a root and be able do use the magick and modules that's all. It would be nice to have step by step instruction.
I know i have to unlock my bootloader first at htcdev, then install twrp (not sure which twrp and if the installation is same as on oreo?)
In the past i rooted one phone but it was completely different and i almost bricked my device, because some idiot posted wrong link on the forum... There is so many versions of everything and i'm feeling lost in it.
I hope this helps, but Pie is still very new for the HTC U11. Some even are saying that clean flashes of the Pie RUU have flash, camera, and wifi issues. I am currently running the amazing RR-P rom (which is based on pie), but it runs on the latest Oreo RUU. I have no issues with the ROM and I get insane SoT even without battery savings. I am excited for the future of this phone, since I love the hardware navbar (never liked the on-screen one / though my HTC m8 is still a boss, and even the forums there have a very solid Lineage 17.0 (android 10) working on it).
https://dl.twrp.me/ocn/
Above is the official link to the US HTC u11 TWRP recoveries. I don't think (to be safer than sorry) these are 100% compatible over the PIE firmware though.
I checked HTCdev, and it doesn't seem to have any difference in the instructions in unlocking the bootloader. No mention of Nougat or Oreo, so I would assume there's no difference in doing the same with Pie.
I flashed my U11 after Pie update, working fine, no problems with flash, wifi or anything else (CID: HTC__034)
1. Unlock bootloader via htcdev
2. Flash latest TWRP from the official site. Instructions here for example: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-twrp/
3. Flash Magisk (also from official Magisk site)… that was a little trickier, since TWRP can't mount the encrypted partitions. The workaround is to copy the Magisk ZIP onto an SD Card and flash it from there while in TWRP.
4. Enjoy.
I decided to root this U11 for the first time, since I don't expect any futur software updates coming form HTC.
Thank you for all your help, i'll try this out today. :good:
So i did everything and it's working but i have one problem. After installing magisk i tried to install some modules, and one of them caused bootloop and i was unable to delete it, and also i was unable to install module uninstaller (fail). So i had to do factory reset - any solution to avoid this kind of problems in future?
Also i installed xposed successfully, but none of modules was working..

I have no answers, but as u can see a rooted pie is problematic, hence the many people reverting back to oreo and or nougat, but some people somehow make it work. Not me I could not downgrade quick enough after rooting, unrooted pie worked great, but my many 'need for root apps' did not , so back to oreo for me . Just my 2 cents!! Good luck.

I found many working apps. The biggest problem is "substratum", especially when it comes to changing navbar buttons. But gravitybox is working, and I'm happy with it. Thanks for your help
My rooted Pie works fine, but I didn't install Substratum or Xposed.

[SOLVED] OK Google won't activate on any Android 10 ROM [perseus]

Ever since I upgraded to android 10, I haven't been able to get OK Google to enable on any ROM (tried ArrowOS, AOSiP, Evolution X, AICP); in every ROM, switching on OK Google in Assistant settings just has it turn right back off after a few seconds, with a driving warning and "Something went wrong. Try again." at the bottom of the screen. I grabbed a logcat while running Evolution X, but I took a peek at logcat on other ROMs and the error is identical:
https://pastebin.com/Ryqz1iww
For the record, this is a Perseus global model on 11.0.3.0.QEEMIXM firmware that's had MIUI 11 then Xiaomi.EU's latest MIUI 11 stable on it prior to going to custom android 10 roms.
If any more info would be helpful toward solving this, let me know and I'll grab it.
EDIT: OK Google IS WORKING under Xiaomi.EU's latest MIUI 11 build, but still no dice on any custom ROM.
EDIT 2: If a ROM has gapps included, it works. If I have to flash opengapps, it doesn't.
EDIT 3: Solved! Just flash the latest firmware again after you flash everything else - you can get the firmware here.
I'm on the latest Xiaomi.EU weekly ROM and OK Google works just fine.
Official ROMs are the only things I CAN get it to work on. Vanilla MIUI 11 and Xiaomi.EU both work for this, so it's not just an issue with my Google account or something - but something is preventing OK Google from working on any of the custom ROMs, including the latest versions of the ROMs mentioned in my OP, even those that include GApps, so it's not like I'm using a bad GApps package. Literally all I do is wipe everything (incl. formatting data), flash the ROM, flash Magisk (which I also did on the MIUI ROMs it works with), reboot, connect to wifi, log in to google (I've tried declining to restore a backup), go straight to Assistant settings and it fails, same error as in that logcat in OP on every ROM it happens on.
Hey, I have the same issue on Evo X. Have you managed to work it out? Thanks
Same issue here on AOSIP. Interestingly, I have two identical devices (Mi Mix 3), running the same version of AOSIP, and on one it works fine, and the other does not!
In case it makes any difference, I am using a gsuite account.
Solved! Thanks to a tip from @Caccu, I now have it working. The secret was to flash the latest firmware over the ROM, even if you're already on the latest firmware. I'm not clear on why, but it works. If you need the latest firmware, you can get it from here. For reference I'm using V12.0.1.0.QEEMIXM on my global Perseus model.
if you flash the latest firmware over a ROM. then you'll be using the latest firmware, and not the ROM you wanted. is that right?

No no, just the firmware, not the whole MIUI package/ROM. The link I provided only has the firmware, with the rest of MIUI stripped out. The ROM is unaffected, the only change I notice after flashing it is that OK Google works now.

Hey Whats up with Magisk?

Has anyone else noticed that magisk has stopped working? The latest addition? There is no longer any access to hide magisk features with the latest features?
For instance for Pokemon Go to work on a custom rom you need magisk hide to hide magisk an hide from app.
I cannot even get it to open after it forces update?

Happy new year. Maybe reinstall Magisk manager? For me it works perfectly, just be sure to install 21.2 magisk and you should be good to go.

I actually listened to another members post an have had success flashing an rooting 3 roms that I could not do either of those with. Apparently there is some kind of conflict bwteeen something in android 10 an android 11. So Ofox 12.0.6 an global firmware for surya 12.0.3.0 are the solutions.
Magish 21.0 worked every time with an android 11. Neither 21.1 or 21.2 worked for me with A11 roms. Only magisk 21 had full functionality

Weird . For me it was the opposite. I had to flash global MIUI 12.0.4.0 to make anything custom work. Until I upgraded to 12.0.7.0, ever since everything works perfectly. Magisk below 21.0 never worked for me on this device.
I have a hypothesis, that all device variants (Indonesian, European, global, Russian) have different vendors and not 100% compatible, Maybe different modem configuration as well. I noticed in mine (European version) that LTE battery consumption is a lot better (by 2hrs SOT!!!) so i'm confused on what to do. Should I stay on MIUI with all it's issues or switch to a custom ROM and lose 1-2 hours of screen on time.

I've sorted everything out. I recommend the firmware you already use for android 11 custom roms. One rom I read other guides for an watched YouTube guides. It's EvolutionX 5.2. It has basically converted my Poco X3 NFC global into a Google pixel 5.
This rom is head an shoulders the best rom for our device. It only needs firmware 12.0.7.0. Which I also found solved all issues an to be flashed from the phones internal memory.
It's beautiful. No bugs. I only use that new twrp ending in 15 an magisk 21. Newer magisks fail to root.
But yes could be to do with different countries.
Edit: Evolution is not the highest benchmarking. An is not the fastest. Its an all round rom for daily driver use. Antutu bench's in the mid 270-280k area.

How to deGoogle OnePlus Nord OxygenOS?

So I would like to degoogle OnePlus Nord as much as possible. However, I don't want to install a custom Rom like lineage OS. I want to keep OxygenOS and just strip it from Google as much as possible. I have seen that there exists something called MicroG where I would be able to install apps from the Play Store without the Play Store itself.
I am basically wondering the following:
What steps can I take to degoogle OnePlus Nord OxygenOS?
And what would be left that can't be degoogled?
Your help would be highly appreciated
Yeah, that's what I've been considering for a while now. Flashing microG suite and disabling Google Services seems to be a natural first step. I don't know if it's possible without root, need to do some more research.
Looking to install unofficial lineage 17.1 and was wondering if I just don't install gaps, can I then proceed to install non google apps as needed? Or would I have to install AOSP without gaps? I want to try this on my OnePlus X. Are there gap alternative packages already for custom roms?
Will you lose DRM keys if you flash lineage? If yes, that'd be a deal-breaker for me on my main phone...

question about ROM - Samsung S9 SM-G960F (PHN)

hi everyone, I am new to this forum.
i've been interested in rooting / mods for my old Samsung s9 to give it a new life.
I did so by rooting it using the TWRP app in combination with the Magisk V23.0
now what happened was that i was downloading some random apps yesterday and for some reason the phone went on bootloop...
i accidentally deleted the system without making a backup lol... a little stupid of me...
now it keeps telling me that i've no OS on my phone. i was thinking that i could easily find the ''un-edited'' or simple version of my original OS. but i've looked through many sites without succes.. either looks 2 good to be true or just fake...
is there anyone who can advise me on what to do? i just want my phone to work with any OS right now... but which one is the cleanest or best to use? i do prefer a newer os like 10
thanks in advance!
If you still have access to recovery mode, your best choice would probably be installing LineageOS. It's the most lightweight ROM and many ROMs are based on Lineage. From what i can see, your phone is no longer officially supported.
I found this one based on Lineage 18.1 (Android 11). Before installing, take a look at the bugs, working, and installing sections.
And don't forget to install the Google Apps after installing the system and before rebooting.
that looks crispy. i appreciate your quick & good advise. can you tell me wether i can still run Magisk on it?
Yes, you can still flash Magisk or any type of root with both the OS and the GApps.
what i'm consider about is, wether a region code CRC matters?
