Root - May 2020 Security Patch - Samsung Galaxy S10e Questions & Answers

Hello, everyone, I have the Samsung Galaxy S10e - model no. SM-G970F running the latest May 2020 security patch on Android 10. Would anyone know the best way to root and TWRP recovery it? I am looking for a 100% full-proof way if it is available. Thank you

Доброго времени суток! Посмотрите на 4pda.

Don't update to this ROM if you want to possibly mod your S10e any time because once you go to May 2020 you cannot regress to an earlier ROM.
Mine is a work device so I have updated but there was a warning in the notes that this is a feature.
I guess this is the point where Samsung start locking you out of modding it. Just don't go there if you care about that.

I was already updated to the May 2020 psych before I posted here - so, I can't go backwards anyways. Is there a way to root it, though?

i updated to may 2020 and was rooted with magisk and twrp but am now back to stock as i think samsung has put something in their latest update? !! - had nothing but problems, screen flashing totally unresponsive not sure whether rom was at fault or magisk needs updating ? or maybe twrp dont know but might try and go back to ct9 as that was stable, definitely something not right. update- once your updated no going back! nice samsung! take my freedom while your at it!!

all good now, was a little rusty! rooted once more, I flashed may update with April twrp! didn't realise it(twrp) had to be updated each time, thanks to the xda member who put me right

[Firmware] G935UUEU4API3 Odin Files & Modded Odin

I know there's another thread for this but it's an absolute cluster F*** to make heads or tails of. I wanted to simplify things.
Simply download files, download modded Odin and put files in proper slots in Odin.
This is will give you stock U firmware with the latest PK1 modem. Root isn't what it used to be so I don't bother with it, please don't ask me for root files and instructions of this firmware.

Here's the modded Odin that I used. This is from the root thread and never once failed to flash anything on any device I've thrown at it: http://d-h.st/gsDA
Thank you for simplifying this process.
You're welcome. I'm here to help.... The other thread was too much of a mess!
Thanks joe3681, for all of your efforts.
Where online can I find a list of updates or a version history for the Samsung S7 Edge (T-mobile)?
so this will work with the latest update from November? and also what are the benefits of U firmware? I haven't been able to find any good info anywhere. i have rooted and flashed before lol i just haven't been in the game for a while
U firmware seems smoother, it's bloat free. Only real downside is no advanced messaging.

No, the U firmware is still the September security patch level. It's so much smoother/faster though. Especially rooted.
Thank you so much, this was obviously 100x easier to follow than the other thread.

Not so sure about that.. Seems laggy still compared to stock and gets hot easier even after cpu fixes

I followed the O.P. in the post root issues thread, doing nothing more and nothing less than what they said to do. No lag, normal temperature.
Thank you
OP thank you for the easy to follow instructions. I just bought my SM-G935T from ebay. I noticed some lag with the S7 Edge and of course all the Samsung and T-Mobile bloatware.
I flashed all of the files then did a system cache wipe. I have not noticed lag so far and now have 20 GB of the 32 GB free.
One question though. Where will the phone check for updates? Will it get updates from Samsung or T-Mobile?
TWRP help
.
I just got my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge and have been doing a lot of reading here on XDA about this device. I have had all the galaxy's since Galaxy II.
I have rooted / custom recovery / custom ROM all of them. I know there basically is not much out yet as far as ROMS go for the S7e, but I would like to instal
TWRP and root the phone. I can not seem to get a straight answer as to how to do this exactly. Each "How-To" that I run into are a little bit different and scares
me a bit. If you could help me with any answers or links to my question(s) I would sure appreciate it.
1) I would like to odin into the phone the latest TWRP but I am not 100% sure which file to flash.
2) I would like to ROOT the phone if it is fairly safe at this point in development, but again I have heard of at least 2 different methods to do this.
3) Please advise on which file to use and/or method. My phone DOES connect up with my PC just fine via USB and I have ADB working also.

Spend more time reading around the forums before you try anything, but to answer your questions:
1) TWRP not possible on TMobile S7/S7E
2) Root is possible, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/how-to-root-s7-edge-t3410470
make sure to read the entire thread and note the issues you may run into

@fl_gator_dad, it will check with Samsung. Mind you they dont update this as often as carrier versions release their incremental updates

Hello,
thank you for replying. I have been using TWRP on my past 6 phones. Is there some reason why
it wont work on this one ? I did a little more reading and found this

Also ... if TWRP isn't working then what custom recovery are you and all using ? Clockwork ...?

Well if you continue searching and reading some more, you will see that twrp only works on non locked bootloaders. Any carrier driven Samsung device has a locked bootloader and twrp will not work. We have the snapdragon and not the exynos. If you need to have twrp then you need to get an S7 edge Exynos version. There is no working custom recovery for the snapdragon version phones as of yet.

Thank you. That is a shame. I would think, incorrectly, that the unlocked GS7 firmware would be the baseline to build the carrier firmware.

Yeah, you'd think! The international is the one that gets everything first.
The unlocked firmware favors T-Mobile though offering T-Mobile customers features that other users don't get.

Oreo final release might be close.

Spotted this on the Samsung fota cloud test server. It's version CQLJ which means it's not a beta version.
new fw is BRA+0-9/A-F (when build in 2018)

Yes, for sure, I forgot about 7.1
Major OS 7.0 for S8 - A, 7.1 - B (skip for S8), 8.0 - C
R - 2018 year
A - January
0-9/A-F - build number
Knowing samsung if its released to some european country today it'll hit america in around a month, and canada in 2 months, then a month later the s9 is released... thanks samsung.
I wish Samsung would fix their update scheme. There is Android Fragmentation, then there is Android Samsung Fragmentation. Why is the Galaxy Tab A 2016 getting the January security update and my unlocked S8 is on November...
Also the latest Oreo Beta is on December, I know security updates are only small but as has been seen on the January update with the Pixels they can cause issues, so I would be sceptical to an Oreo release even being up to date.
Samsung needs to stop carriers turning their phones into bloated messes. My phone, before I debranded, came with 17 applications installed by the carrier, none of which I have any use for or have used!
It really isn't that hard to get this right, and it's what we are all asking for! Simplification and transparency, not waiting and waiting and waiting! Some customers with Note 8's in the UK are still on August Security Patch. That's what £800 gets you, negligence.

Do you know if the version.xml (not version.test.XML) update in real-time? Thats mean, would I be able to see a new firmware when Samsung pushes a new update to my device?
I see they have jumped back to CRAB version from CRAL in the test server. Wonder if that is in prep for the release to beta testers.

Rooting

Hi everyone!
I recently got my hands on a s8+ (G955f) and i'm trying to root it buy i'm really lost.
I did try to root it one time, twrp+no verity+magisk while on Oreo, then i installed magisk manager and both things seemed ok (at least to my knowledge) but the second i take my eyes off the phone, "only official released binaries...".
After that i installed Pie stock firmware since i couldn't use Oreo.
I'd like to try again but theres a lot of info (new and out of date) and i don't even know whats good and what isn't.
TL;DR: Want to root the phone but i don't know what to do, can someone kindly point me out on what to do/share me a link?
Thank you.

Sorry about posting here but there isn't any place for 2018 versions, I've found a version for the 2018 version but it doesn't work now that I'm on android 9 pie. If anybody could help me I'd appreciate it very much. That version never worked for me. Just a blank screen is all I get. So I am in the process of finishing up TWRP build for it now.

Galaxy Note 8 Update Question

Hey everyone, I'm relatively new here, so I'm hoping this is the proper section to post my question regarding my Note 8's inability to find an update. It's model number is SM-N950U, and baseband version N950USQS3BRB2 (AT&T). It has the stock 7.1.1 firmware, and it absolutely will not find any firmware updates when I search. It's driving me crazy because my other note 8 is updated to 9, however its screen is cracked to ****. And my old Note 8 is in perfect condition. Any info or tips would be great help. And again, I've tried looking through the forums at firmware links and lists, but I can't find any update files for my specific baseband version. I don't know if that matters or not. Anyways, thanks for anyone's time that helps.

You cannot update from the N950USQS3BRB2 firmware version that's why it's not finding anything. You need to manually update it yourself to the next update version which I think is N950USQU3CRC2 using Odin and then it'll be able to do it on it's own.
Hey Mike whats up bro. My Note 9 does this same thing. Seems that a lot of people with At&t have this issue. My 8 is still on BRK2 rooted, and will stay that way..lol.

Hey what's up brother!! I noticed that too and I think they're messing something up and then when they push the update out it's supposed to see a certain version to update from and if they mess up the version it's supposed to see by typos or something then it just doesn't update and then keeps saying you're on the latest firmware version even though you know you're not lol.. Usually when I run into that problem if you update it yourself to the next version it seems to clear the problem. Personally I don't like updating either because we all know that they're just putting a bunch of junk on the phone in order to make it get slower and slower to make us get annoyed with it and buy a new phone..

Thank you so much for your response. I manually updated it to CRC2 yesterday using ADB. Now it's at version 8. The whole reason I was wanting to update it was because of the PIP feature in 8. Now i just have to get it updated to 9. But it's still not finding an update when I search. So I may have to manually do it again.

Try downloading this version N950USQU4CRD7 and then see if it'll update on it's own.
You are right Mike, sometimes you have to get device on right path before it will process an OTA. Now me I am a little OCD and I would rather use Odin or firmware Science method to update. It's just something about OTA vs connection when updating that gets my OCD...lol
