Hello.
I've gotten pretty frustrated with using my 3a for a while now regarding this specific issue, the call volume is just always super low and makes using the default phone app unbearable because I can hardly hear the other person, it is ALWAYS at max volume btw.
I just genuinely do not understand why the call volume is so low whilst the other volumes (media, alarms, etc) don't seem to have this issue and I can even get additional apps to boost the volume for those- but not the call volume.
It seems to have gotten worse just several days ago when some liquid hit the grill , so now instead of it sounding like someone is 3 feet away from the phone, it just sounds like 6 feet away. But even with this situation, it did NOTHING to my other volume settings.
Is there anything I can do to improve the loudness at all without depending on headphones? I would prefer having the phone on my ear , especially since calls on headphones literally echo whatever gets picked up on my microphone back to me I just honestly hate it.
Get a replacement phone. That's not normal. My call volume gets loud.

Is that really the only possible solution here...?
Everything else is fine...I just cannot find a way to make the call volume louder, just seems like Im stuck putting it on speakers or using headphones at the moment.

Anyone else experiencing this in Qik? Tried over wifi and 3G, downloaded all updates. The volume is very low. Does this happen to anyone else?
OMG yes! I thought I was the only one? It's too damn hard to hear who I'm talking to. The person even asked me why I would bring the phone up to my ear every time he spoke. I hope an update can fix this.
I experienced the same thing using Tango. Tried doing a test chat with my friend on his iphone. He kept asking me to repeat myself and said the volume was low. I could hear him fine.
So, just to see, I tried it with the headphones and mic... MUCH better, he could hear me fine.
At first I thought it was the case maybe getting in the way, but taking it off didn't help at all.
Not sure what to make of it... hopefully, it is just some software problem and nothing major.
This is my first post BTW... After leaving the iphone a couple of months ago I have tried 3 Samsung Captivates (Galaxy S), 2 G2's, and 2 MT4G's... I think I finally got a keeper. This thing is redonkulous!

same - tried over data and wifi. However... girlfriend used headphones and no headphones, and iphone head phones... could barely hear here. it would cut in and out sometimes too... she couldn't hear me half the time either... helllppppp this is why we bought this stupid phone!
i had the same problem today, i hope it's just a matter of an update, other than that this phone is awesome! i can't believe i got a MyTouch after having a g1, i thought i'd be a loyal vanilla user but this phone was too sweet to pass up
lol @2071. Yea I'm about to get it Tomorrow coming from a g1. I wish this was vanilla, or i can at least root
Double check that your call is going through the speakerphone. Is it possible that the video call audio is defaulting to the earpiece? I wonder because if it sounds normal using headphones then there's probably nothing wrong. Just a guess.
The other side they can hear me perfectly. Its just my ability to hear them. During the call, if I push the volume keys, the volume meter comes up on the phone as "media volume." Also, if I make a regular non-video call and put it on speaker, the speaker is LOUD. So its just confined to video calls..... Also, other media (music) is LOUD.
Ya I have also tried Tango and its the same low volume on The network or my wifi. I haven't tried headphones yet though.
from Snugs hTc ViSiON
I can confirm low volume as well. Seems to work way better with headphones in for both sides.

Alright, well make sure you all call in to tmo tech support so this becomes a known issue quickly!
im not experiencing low volume... what i am experiencing is when talking to my friend, I had to switch the mic on and off each time I wanted to talk and hear him.. kinda like a 2 way radio
Hi!
I just got my nexus s. When Im talking to someone else on the phone, the person I'm calling sounds very crackly. The crackling appears while having the volume > 50%. If its at 50% and lower the speaker sounds just fine. Another thing I noticed is that holding my thumb onto the speaker eliminates the crackling.
I think that I'm going to return the phone. Just wanted to know if I'm the only one having that kind of trouble.
The exact description of the phone is GT-I9023FSAC NX in case some one asks.
Thanks a lot!
Tacoden
are you on stock? no volume config apps?
if you havent done anything to your phone yet besides calling and texting, then yeah, i think you should get your phone replaced.
Does anyone have some information about the earpiece quality?
On the Nexus 4 the quality was very low as on lower volumes interferences from the wireless signal could be heard. Also i don't like phone on which the lowest volume is still much too loud.
Any experience would be very appreciated.
No we dont have any information. The phone isn't even in peoples hands with the exception of media sites.
Just wait until you receive the device and conclude for yourself (or wait for others for a full-review)
Mine's in my hand. The earpiece quality is excellent, it's very loud and clear, the best I've ever encountered!

Got my phone right here.. Already have it for like 6 hours (has been shipped today)... Did not test the headphone output yet...
Sound quality is excellent through earphones..Plenty loud..Im pretty impressed with the speakers to..More bass and clarity than the N4.. Turn the volume up on Dead Trigger 2 or listen to some dance music and you will see what i mean.
Ok, thank you very much for your answers :good:
I'm only interested in the earpiece volume. It's nice if the speaker is loud enough but i don't want the earpiece on low volumes too loud. Even more i like it if it's very quiet for on the lowest levels as i'm not all the time in a noisy environment.
If the earphone output is also quite low on the lowest level i'd appreciate that a lot. I had troubles with every Android phone so far, except the HTC One X+, beeing too loud. (And don't start a flamewar. Some people can't get it loud enough and some like phones who are able to adapt to the ambient).
Hi,
Can you tell me if you can control the volume with a wired headset ? (much like the iPhone... and unlike my Nexus 4)
Thanks !
Mine has stopped working...still makes a sound when maximising the volume but I cant hear anything in a call.
Is the Nexus 5 compatible with HD Voice on T-Mobile USA?

not as bad as N4
When on a call on the call volume is low you can hear a faint distorted signal. It kind of sounds like the phone is working on other tasks in the background more than a distorted signal to me. It's faint but kind of annoying when you realize it. The N4 was worse though.
Has anyone else noticed this is or is it just me?
My Skyrocket has always had low earpiece volume. It sounds normal until I get in a noisy environment, then I have to press my ear totally against the phone which barely helps. My wife's Galaxy s2 i777 has louder volume and doesn't have this problem. I have tried all the available roms for my device to no avail. Is this normal for this phone, and if so, is there anything I can do to fix this problem? Any app that will work? I love this phone as it meets all my needs except for the volume. Thanks for your help!
edit: i bought this phones 2 months ago from Ebay. I researched it before i bought it, but the main issues others had with the skyrocket was the battery life with LTE. Well, the battery life has been great after custom rom, But the volume is terrible. I first thought i was sold a defective phone but then i found out that others had the same problem, but no solutions. Even all the volume boosts apps that work on other phones (for reasons WAY above my pay grade) do not work on our skyrocket.
...Anybody?... I know this problem of low earpiece volume is common with the skyrocket and has been brought up on many different forums, but I have not found anyone who has found a way to resolve the problem. Any help or direction would be appreciated. This trouble exist with both stock and custom roms.
still no answers?...sigh...
Well, I have replaced the earspeaker and the problem still persists. To clarify, the speaker is not as low as it was when Beanstalk 4.4 was going thru its growing pains and the volume level dropped after one of the builds a month or so ago. It is just that standing outside with normal outdoor sounds (occasional traffic, birds tweeting, outdoor noises) ihave to hold my ear directly against the speaker. I dont have that problem with my wife's s2 i777
Well, a month has passed with no replies. I have found that the volume level is good when using a headset to answer calls, so I have resorted to trying to be sure to carry earbuds with me. On the rare occasion that I dont have earbuds are the days I dread having this phone. As I us my phone for work, I need it to work as a phone first, and a smartphone secondary. As I stated before, I love the features of this phone, but there has to be a workaround for the volume levels. Maybe I'm just getting old and you young folks dont use the phone to actually speak to each other. Woah! Who let my dad in the room?!!? Anyway, Still looking for help. I am not asking which rom is better than another, but are there any roms that have louder volume levels? I have tried many here including Beanstalk, Dirty Unicorns, Liquid Smooth, Sultans CM 11...

Bean Stalk comes with am app called DSP manager which helps control volumes for bluetooth headsets. Give that a shot. It may just be your headset

The headset isn't the problem. The phone sounds great thru all the headsets that I have tried and thru the loudspeaker. The low volume level is when I am not using the headset and actually have to place my ear up to the phone(earpiece speaker). Its usable in normal areas, such as inside a room, but standing outside with normal background sounds like nature and light road traffic, I can barely hear the caller. I have to press my ear against the phone pretty hard, which usually ends up with accidental button presses and hangups.

Oh i understand, yes I have had that same issue which is why i bought a blue tooth headset.... Not sure if programming can do anything about the internal speaker.

Yeah, I was kinda hoping that maybe somebody discovered something that solve this. I don't know anything about programming, but I was thinking that back when beanstalk had those troubles with extra low volume, it was eventually fixed. And since he was able to boost the volume back to correct levels maybe it could be boosted just a little bit more. Or Since DSP works with bluetooth speakers and headphones and external speakers it seems like it would be easy to make it boost the earpiece volume. But I know that it is NOT easy...it may be impossible. If it was easy then there would have been a fix long ago. But a man can hope, can't he?
The problem in question goes way back to early moto devices like the nexus 6 and back. The issue is where the speaker doesn't play at full volume for the first second or so before going at full volume.
Is that still an issue here? I know it was on the moto x4.
I made a couple speaker phone calls on my Moto G7 Power and the volume is consistent. I hit the
speaker phone icon just after dialing and it doesn't fluctuate.

The use case it usually occurs under is if the the phone hasn't been used for a while and then a Sound plays. Like receiving a text notification. What I've understood in the past is that however moto sets up their hardware, the software has to "wake up" the speaker to play at full volume resulting in a lag. If the speaker is awake, no problems. So your particular use case may not affect it.
Do you mean that the notification appears on the screen and the sound lags behind it or the sound fluctuates
when a notification comes in. I'll try to replicate the problem if I know what your talking about.

Sort of the second part. You will notice a fluctuation as if the tone starts off very quiet, regardless of playback volume, before quickly elevating to the correct volume. It's as if it suppresses the first second of the sound.
Yeah, this is why my alarms sound quieter the first second. My G7 Power suffers this issue.
Even though, this hasn't been any problem besides that the beggining of each alarm is gentler. If this is repeated in any other circumstances, I never realized. So it's not much of an issue anyway, at least for me.
Went to a best buy to test one out. Still Doss it. I don't know why moto has to do this to every phi e.
