SM-S205DL (Straight Talk Model) - Samsung Galaxy A20 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all,
I have a Straight Talk Galaxy A20, model SM-S205DL. Will root instructions work for this model? I don't notice an OEM unlock option in the Developer Mode menu, but I can boot in download mode. Thoughts? It's been a while since I tried to install custom firmware.

Okay. Is there a way to do that other than the developer options menu? If the OEM unlock option isn't there, is there some other method?

There is a trick where you change the date to some weeks in the future.

yea the dev options to show OEM Unlock seems to be gone from Straighttalk/tracfone versions, its even Gone from Download Mode (you dont even SEE the option for long-press vol+ to unlock bootloader)

is there a way to root

Some places claim to be able to change the CID of the phone. Would that help? I imagine once able to load different non-TFN BS firmware on the phone that magic developer option may appear. Or is it a hardware thing and the exynos chip has something to do with it? Not sure how it all works yet. Anyone know what the unlocked us retail model contains?
I'm not smart enough to find out so hopefully someone is and reads this and can chime in regarding all the points...

How to root Cricket Wireless Alcatel Idol 4?

Hello! I've been searching the net far and wide for a way to root my Alcatel idol 4. Its the cricket model. I was able to unlock the boot loader and turn on USB debugging but besides that I haven't had any luck rooting my device.
Has anyone tried and has success or know any methods that could work?
Thank you!

How did you unlock the bootloader? I'm not able to do it. Fastboot doesn't see the phone when I boot to bootloader.

That's been done since I got the phone. Still doesn't make a difference, fast boot commands have been stripped from this phone.

try this SETTINGS>BACKUP AND RESET>DEVICE RESET. this will restore all settings to default state while keeping dev-ops and all apps and data
Sorry if I'm speaking out of turn, as I'm not highly experienced...>BUT, I went thru what your referring to with my OnePlus phone. The option in the developer options that says "OEM Unlocking" for bootloader is nothing more than an option in the Android system that allows the bootloader to be unlocked should the mfg allow it. Whether this is on/off makes no difference for this being unlocked. It just has to be turned on for the unlocking to work. I had this Idol 4 for a short time but returned it due to the fastboot commands being removed.

Question Is the SM-A125U different?

Is my A12 (a125u) different and unable to be bl unlocked/rooted, etc? It has OEM unlock in dev options....?
Did you figure this out? Looking to do the same... Also can't find a firmware for it, please share what you did if you had success. Thanks!

Yes, the A125U has OEM UNLOCK in the developer options......you can turn that ON by going into : settings > about phone > software information ...and then tap BUILD NUMBER several times until you see that you have enabled "developer options". Then you go into developer options and turn on OEM UNLOCKING.
Before updating firmware recently OEM UNLOCKING was greyed out. But now I can switch it on. Now the question is, can this variant be properly bootloader unlocked and rooted. The known repository for downloadable firmwares for Samsung phones DOES NOT seem to have this variant firmware for download. And I wonder if that is required for this to be properly rooted.
Galaxy firmware has the firmware for this variant. I have the att version and I can't seem to unlock the bootloader. Holding volume up in the download screen does nothing. Any luck?
Bump, I have all same questions.... Anyone figure anything out?
Before I had tmo Sim unlock my phone the I set the oen unlock to unlock now its not there at all
Anybody rooted this yet ?
anyone know the interchangeability of the firmware between the a125u and other versions
I wish to know as well

I'd like to know this too. I believe the internal are all the same for the MediaTek devices. I got a SM-A125F for free and want to use it in the US. It looks like I could if I can convert it to SM-A125U or MS-A125M. I already bricked it once trying to flash U firmware and has to flash back to F

I have a similar issue but vice versa. I bought a US version (SM-A125U1) only to find out months after that the dual sim option is locked and i think the only way to unlock it is changing the firmware. Now I need help to know what I can do to, please.

Question How to unlock bootloader?

I just received my Flip3 (SM-F711U1) and would like to unlock my bootloader. However developer options is missing the OEM Unlock option. It's completely missing not just grayed out. I read a few articles about needed to change the system date but none of those guides changed anything. Can someone help?
Also, I attempted to call *#*#7378423*#*# to double checked that it wasn't already unlocked and I got a popup saying "Unabled to process the request."
Thank you.

Have you tried through fastboot? (fastboot oem unlock)
Oh, got you. Sorry!
As far as I'm aware samsung devices don't support fastboot. I did attempt to connect it in case I was wrong but was not able to get fastboot to recognize the device.

You can try directly unlock without ticking the oem unlock. By boot into download mode. The other thing is your device or carrier or country wont allow your flip 3 to be unlock. There last step you can try is clean flash via odin with your latest firmware.

if you're in North America, Canada etc Qualcomm chips there do not support bootloader unlocking, at least the Samsung one's don't, not sure about other OEMs.

They used to, so there was always a possibility it returned.
I recently read this article on XDA about unlocking the boot loader on the Fold 3 which results in Samsung disabling the camera (WTH?), Is this a thing on the Flip3 too?
My device is rooted. I have always been able to find the OEM unlock option under developer options without any constraints.
My camera is NOT affected. I can still use it without any issues.
I have an European device (SM-F711B).
Hope this helps some of you to track down whether this is a location or carrier based problem.
Hey Redhatter,
Out of topic question, but are you getting Tmobile 5G just fine?

To root a phone's Android unlocking its bootloader is NOT required.
You simply have to add SU binary to Android's filesystem and make this binary executable.
I want to oem unlock bootloader for trwp and roms but I can't find oem unlock in dev settings and tried the video above and a couple of other things I found
You need the Samsung flash tool and the version of android for the phone and su +twep+magisk is optional good luck
Ps. Allways back up everything!

I am not trying to flash custom ROM, just to tweak the system kernal settings.
I seen someone mentioned to root w/o the OEM unlocking switch available, all that is needed is to flash the SU binary with Odin.. I haven't tried this yet but I am almost positive Odin for windows doesn't even read the Samsung devices without the bootloader being unlocked.
Anyone care to chime in here? i'd be very appreciative!
Mainly WTF is the OEM unlock switch not available on my device. I actually have 2 of the same devices and both are without the switch.
Also would flashing SU work and do the trick?

General re-locking bootloader problem

I tried for my first time to unlock my phone's bootloader and thought it was something really easy to customize the
phone firmware on the other hand was not what I thought and I don't know much about computer science or customizing a firmware;
and then without being able to install a root or any modification I decided to re-lock the bootloader (because i dont want it anymore) only that I did not succeed with various tutorials and I did not find any for the samsung galaxy a12. I just unlocked the bootloader from developer options settings and ran what the tutorial said on how to activate it without installing a root or customization of anything.
can someone please help me.

It's not hard to relock as its not hard to unlock it.
If you've followed any unlocking bootloader tutorial, after enabling OEM unlock option, you have to enter downlod mode and long press the volume up to enter unlock mode and then procedd to actually unlocking it.
For relocking it, just go to the download mode again, then long press the volume up and you'll have the option to re-lock it.
