What to enable or disable to make it less aggressive?

Hi,
I have the same problem and it is f*** annoying! I have the 8GB version of the OP7pro and I don't know why the phone always closes my apps after a certain amount of time. I have disabled all (as far as I know) battery optimization features and also disabled the RAM booster.
In parallel I still run a Galaxy Note 3 with a really old custom rom, which has started to act a bit buggy now, but this phone does not overwrite MY settings and kills apps I want to keep open.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this behavior? Or is the only way to flash a custom rom again? I don't know if it is related to Oxygen OS or Android 9.

This is the problem with Chinese oems. Aggressive ram management, notification problems, not quite there cameras. Having the hardware is one thing. Software r & d is something else.
Can't remember exactly where I read it but...OnePlus is supposedly working on an update to "fix" the problem with aggressive killing of background apps as a result of all the complaints they receive concerning this issue. Something that can possibly help along with shutting off all battery/ram management is to lock your open apps to keep them open. While scrolling through your open apps you will see a three dot menu in the top right corner and one of the options is to "lock" the app which is supposed to lock it in memory/RAM. YMMV

Are we sure this isn't a Pie issue? I just came from a pixel 3xl and had the same issues in the beginning. Everyone blamed the 4gb RAM as the culprit. Google eventually updated a Fix but it wasn't 100% fixed. It was better but apps still closed to early. So maybe we're looking at an Android problem. Who knows

This is totally crap, I switched from my Note 3, which I still like very much (but only with AOSP based custom ROM) to OP because I don't like the way Samsung and Huawei gone to. I'm not rooted right now, so I can not tell what can be done with Magisk Modules or Xposed Modules (or other mods) on a Oxygen based ROM.
Can someone tell if this behavior can be stopped with mods or is the only way to switch to an AOSP based ROM again?
I wanted to give Oxygen OS a try but right now I'm not fully convinced with the current situation, even if OP is one of the fastest supplier for updates. I don't like it, when a manufacturer tells me what I can do with a device and what not. At least OP should give me the choice how strict the RAM management is and when I want to get apps closed.

Due to the fact that there is no notification LED and no AOD (STILL) I tried several third party apps to get a AOD, but the battery drain on this apps is heavy as f*** and they often do not work correctly, because the system prevents them to run correctly.

Not only that. 3rd party apps like notification buddy work but Google Assistant stops working once you install it. I don't know what GA has to do with notification lighting. It's supposed to be a phone first and foremost. OnePlus seems to have forgotten what it is they're making. Something as basic as missed notifications seems not terribly important to them.

I agree. Samsung and Huawei show that AOD can work without heavy battery drain, so why can't OP get this to work or can they but don't want it?
I will root the device and have a look what I can optimize.
What I cannot change (unfortunately I had no chance to hands on the device before I bought it) is the size and the weight. It is to big and way to heavy. Not only while taking a phone call, even if you just hold it in one hand and do some stuff, it gets heavy within a very short time.
Maybe this OP was my first and last one - I will see. But it seems that all devices get bigger and heavier with every iteration, which is totally insane.

It's definitely a pie thing as Android 10 had much better ram management even on pixel 2xl with 4gb ram. I suspect it will resolve most of our problems.

I have a problem with the weight as well, like my previous note 9. I got the s10+ after that, before being enticed by all the YouTube reviews of the 7pro at launch. I'm beginning to regret that decision. Dual speakers are no where near the s10+ and neither is video stabilisation. I'm on the beta 2 now, rooted and the experience is beginning to improve. Sure there are pros like the fast charging, display and the quick implementation of android 10. I can't justify the note 10 and all the year end releases with SD 865 round the corner so I guess I'll just have to put up with it.

You're on Beta software...what do you expect? I'm on stable and all is working fine. I'm on T-Mobile but using an unlocked 7 Pro purchased from OnePlus directly.

Did you actually read what I wrote? The experience has improved on android 10.
i had the s10+ and i couldnt deal with the half bakes software. so oneplus was the natural choice for me.
sure the speakers arent the best but theyre plenty fine - its not like we use our speakers for hidef sound, wireless headphones or a jukebox can take care of the rest (i have these strategically placed around the house so its never an issue when i play music)
failing AOD, dt2w is just as good imo.

If you use Magisk, make sure to flash Ainur Sauron. That's an absolute game-changer for audio quality. I can't say the audio will quite compare to the Note 9 (I own it), but it should be fairly comparable to the S10+ (Have two in the family). The Note 9 has the advantage of actual front-facing speakers since it has bezel.
If you want to use Viper or JamesDSP, you'll need to also flash AML in Magisk which allows for multiple audio mods to be integrated. If you want a simple flash and away w/o further customization, then just flash Ainur Sauron.

Idea if flagship killer was very cool to me so I really fall in love with OnePlus. I became part of community and I really want to help OnePlus to became really killer.
Today, after 4 Oneplus phones I am really disappointed, Oneplus became expensive top brand, flagship company. Rolling out Android 10 without serious testing for company's most expensive phone is most selfish and irresponsible move I ever seen. Looks like to me whole company working on Oneplus 7T Pro, and no one cares too much about "old" phone. This morning I was late for my work because alarm did not ring?! I don't know reason, I don't care why, I am user of 800€ phone and I don't expect that.

I'm running official GM21AA on my GM1913 for 2 days, no root, just stock phone.
So far I noticed this problems:
- This morning my alarm did not ring?!
- After that disappointing situation I notices mobile data was off, so I have to turn it on manually
- Choppy audio on Bluetooth in my car ( I have to keep screen on for normal reproduction)
- Horizon Light don't work at all
- During Viber video call, video connection shuts down every few minutes, so I have to turn off then on video call constantly.
- Battery life was very nice first day, but second became terrible. Btw I have no issue with Viber, alarm clock, mobile data and Car Bluetooth during first day of using Android 10.
Any suggestions beside rolling back on Android P or selling and leaving OnePlus and back to Pixel phone
Why not do some research? There are a dozen things you can try to fix your issues. I updated from Stable 9 to 10 using Oxygen Updater and I have none of the issues you have so what is the difference? Maybe you have one or more apps that are not playing well with 10? Maybe you need to uninstall them and reinstall them so that they work better with 10? Maybe you need to do a factory reset (yes it is a pain) and DO NOT let your apps automatically reinstall from Google, to see if that fixes your issues? Or you could just sell the phone and go back to a Pixel! Then when you have the same types of issues with your Pixel you can complain on their forums about bugs and issues that you are not willing to try and fix. Solved!
NO. Still doesn't have wireless charging (which I miss A LOT) and the camera software is still not good.
Just wanted to find some opinions on what to get basically it's been awhile since I was on her and my note ten is having the cold battery can't charge issue so Im looking what to replace it with and need root and loved the functionality of a fully unlocked bootloader but I missed the great speeds of a US phone since I'm in the US so wonder what I shoud do?

I've never seen that warning. Use something like DevChek to view all the sensor temperatures.
May just be a battery failure. They're good for about 2 years on a heavily used phone, my lasted 1.5 years and failed.
I'm looking at getting a second Note. My choices are another 10+ or a new 20U. It will likely be another 10+; it a solid, stable, fast phone with no glaring issues. If still running on Pie, that's a huge plus, Android 10 and especially 11 just suck. I don't have high hopes for 12.
So if it's the battery or C port PCB*, just replace and wait for the 2022 Note release.
From what I've read the Snapdragon has a better chipset architecture and instruction set.
They seem to be notoriously hard to root. Probably not a good choice for rooting.
I know you can optimize a stock 10+/Pie, not sure how well that will go with Android 10 and above. Some of the functionality isn't there for valuable 3rd party apps like Karma Firewall's logging feature. You can still use Package Disabler or ADB edits to kill the bloatware though.
On newer high dollar phones is many ways rooting is a liability especially with warranty/insurance and you lose Knox, Samsung Pass etc if you use that junk. There are those especially on this forum that swear by it but won't acknowledge their cost in time (which can be and typically is huge) and inconvenience.
Stock Androids/roms are easier to troubleshoot and more secure. If there are issues with a stock setup there will be thousands or more with the same issue making solutions more likely and easier to find. With a custom setup you are on your own which can quickly implode into a time sucking blackhole in more ways than there are stars.
If I was going to root it be an older Note... not a brand new one... risk/time vs reward.
*the C port PCB may have a temperature sensor, not sure. It can cause a lot of bizarre issues in seemingly unrelated systems like internet connection, I know that for a fact. Make sure if you do replace it you get the exact PN that on that PCB or it will not function properly! Both the battery and C port PCB are relatively easy to replace with the proper tools and skillset. Both are cheap, under $50. Make sure you replace the back cover OEM seal with the same or equivalent if you open it up. Do not use generic double sided adhesive tape!

i had this same issue of yours ,

notice/issue .....many years back .
Can't remember which device of mine it was , think it was a Samsung Tablet A 2016 .
Anyway ,
Took devices to Samsung Service Centre.
It was the USB charging port .
They did not charge me much for the repairs .
Got it fixed and device charging normally / working fine afterwards.
My point is whatever you do or decide do not "throw/give "device away .
It's a small fix.....!

I am running the US snapdragon spammy 20 - ultra rooted up with boot loader unlocked thanks to afane and his advanced bros, although due to the lock down on many features such as scoped (controlled) storage preventing apps from being installed outside of the control room (googel store), did I mention notification sound got locked down too?

I am on OOS 10.0.11.GM21BA with Magisk and TWRP and I want to update to Android 11 11.0.3.1.GM21BA.
However, I saw that there are mentions of stuck devices after updating and the need for patched boot.img and what not.
Until now I used following method to update:
Disable Magisk Modules
Download newest TWRP to SD
Download Full OTA from OP servers to SD
Flash OTA via local update in system settings
Flash A/B retention script with Magisk
Install Magisk to inactive slot
Reboot
Is this method still a valid way of updating? Do I need some extra steps for the update to Android 11?
I would wait... major reported issues even on Pixel phones.
If your current OS is fast, stable and fulfilling it's mission, let it be.
You have nothing to gain.
Running on Android 11 the OnePlus ranks second to Samsung in having severe aggressive background app killing issues. The full implementation of scoped storage in R will devour cpu cycles like a kid eats candy.
The endless popups asking permission to do everything will give you a new pastime.
I can likely coexist with Q... but R is for reject.

I was actually hoping that I had waited long enough by now for the initial issues to be gone. I actually want to update because of security patches in the first place, which we can't get on Q anymore, at least with stock OOS.
Also, I have multiple friends that updated (just stock phones) and didn't have any major problems, in regards to background killing of apps too, which I would definitely go crazy over if I had to experience that again.
Do you have any further insight to the update process posted?

I don't think R will ever be fixed. So much so that I bought another N10+ because both Google Android and Samsung have been dropping the ball so badly I'm stepping back for 2-3 years.
The fact that the N10+ is still a good viable choice today shows how poorly Samsung has done particularly in 2021.
I wouldn't even think twice about not getting security updates. Unless you do something stupid*, malware simply isn't an issue on Android 9 and up. Q has all of the worst vulnerabilities patched anyway. Don't buy into the Gookill security hype.
Been running unpatched Pie N10+ for close to 2 years with over a year on the current load. No malware forced reloads ever, and no malware in over a year. Redundantly backup all critical data and be ready to reload if needed. Really a reload be less trouble than trying to implement R.
Watch what you download, keep email in the cloud, watch over the download folder for anomalies and you'll be fine.
*no saving dumb bunnies...

Sorry for the delayed response, it was actually not because I updated haha.
Well I can't really say much about R, since i haven't had personal day to day experience, and that's where the little things play a key role which can ruin your experience.
When it comes to the security part, I must say we have a different view on that topic. Unfortunately, you don't always have to be the reason for getting pwned, as there are vulnerability that are out of your ability to do something against it unless the system itself gets patched. The amount of those grows considerable faster once it's not updated anymore as the researchers know that there won't be any patch comming against it. Many of the vulnerability get searched on those system on purpose, especially if a big part of the users are still on that OS version. It becomes more lucrative for them then searching vulnerabilities on R and seeing it getting patched 4 weeks later.
Take RackTooth (which we currently don't know how it really works and how it can be fixed) for example, you are basically screwed once it gets out in the wild, if your device it not supported by the manufacturer anymore. That's also a reason why customs ROM are still so important and the manufacturer giving us the ability to unlock out bootloaders so we can continue to safely use our devices once they don't want to support it anymore.
I will probably be switching to Samsung too after my current device as I don't like where OnePlus is headed, especially with the Oppo codebase merge and them giving up on devices so fast.
It's been 2 years and they still haven't fixed the f*cking call on speaker mic problem, nor the audio quality when making a call with Galaxy Buds+! It is really ridiculous. Kinda regret making 10 people in my surroundings get OnePlus phones....
It feels like Samsung is the only real option left, which is sad to see.

There are security vulnerabilities, simply be aware of them and do what you to mitigate them.
After over a year of zero updates though I know the actual threat level is low. Updates are far more likely to cripple the phone than malware.
Most victims pawn themselves, one way or another. The other common inept screw up of those infected is failure to promptly address abnormal behaviors.
Malware needs to be resolved immediately and the phone shutdown until it is. Trojan preloaders count on a person's lack of wherewithal and failure to act promptly. If I got nailed now, at the worst I be reloaded and 99% fully operational in about 2 hours. 6 if I lost the SD card data.
So what? My data, security, everything is redundant, replaceable, resetable.
Right now unless you go with a older Samsung still running on 10 or 9, there aren't many good options. 2022 is looking bleak as well. This is one reason why I got another 10+. In my opinion it's the zenith of Samsung Note flagships and of Android OS. I'm a pragmatist, I go with what works best. The hype rolls right off like water from a duck.

No SD card slot which makes it useless to me.
It also lacks the intense customization stock Samsung's have by way of the Galaxy store.
Samsung's also have builtin workarounds for the lame swipe gesture navigation; Samsung's can easily be set to have screen navigation buttons.
Word of caution, the Samsung interface on Android 11 variant is reportedly a mess.
The spen is a feature I appreciate more the longer I own* the 10+. It's remote bt control and Smart Capture are extremely useful to me. Otherwise when not needed it neatly nests out of sight.
For power users the Note series is still the weapon of choice in many ways.
*lol, I'm still exploring the features in my original 10+ Pie variant. There are many. I play around with it. Even more on the Q variant and new UI features too, I haven't even played with those yet
tl;dr: I flashed to 11.0.7.1 which rendered the camera/torch unusable, only 9.5.11 should I try flashing back to the latest OxygenOS or rather use some custom ROM?
I was using the OnePlus 7 Pro I got a few months back used for ~200 EUR quite happily, except the front camera wasn't working (it pops up but the software freezes, keeps popping back and forth until I quit the camera app), which was probably somehow damaged by the previous user. We didn't discuss it, as he also didn't say anything about quite noticeable AMOLED Burn-in, cause he used the always-on navigational buttons... Something everyone should check when browsing through used deals.
I guess I was using the latest 11.0.6.1.GM21BA without issue, then the security patch and a few people on Reddit said their battery life improved, so I tried it.
All seemed fine, but the camera app has just thrown an error that the camera is damaged and I should go for repairs, torch in the quick menu said "Camera in use" so I did a backup and factory reset, which I recall I had to do in the previous update as well. But that didn't help. So in the angry rush, I said to hell with Oxygen OS and flashed cDroid, but there was the same issue there.
Finally using this great guide I managed to reflash to OxygenOS 10, but the issue still persisted. But with OxygenOS 9.5.11 finally, the camera works again. I didn't even put the phone online and I wanted to try upgrading to the latest OxygenOS 11 again, but I fear the issue will happen again.
Maybe OS9 somehow made the camera unstuck and unless I install the 'corrupting OxygenOS 10/11' and install rather some custom ROM it might be fine?
I will try later, I wasted too many valuable hours on this crap.
Googling in rage and reading other posts I see a similar camera issue happened across multiple OnePluses from 6 to 8. This really disappoints me and I'm sure I won't be looking for a used OnePlus ever again. Good thing I got a spare older OnePlus 5 for now.

I indeed have this issue too. It appeared on June 10th. I tried to factory reset my phone yesterday and nothing changed.
I will also add that my front camera isn't working anymore since April. Can't figure out if this is software or hardware related
I really don't want to downgrade to OOS 9 but until the contrary is proved (by a fix or a comment by OnePlus), I would call it a case of planned obsolescence.
From now on I will keep my distance with this brand. Quite sad to admit because I was fond of their phones, but the management of issues / updates for the more dated ones isn't an example to follow anymore

Has your front camera stopped working after an update or during normal use?
It would make "sense" for OS 10+ to check if there is an issue with the front camera to disable all cameras altogether. Even if only to rush you into a repair shop...
I requested a repair which is in neighboring Poland, but they didn't wait for confirmation and requested UPS shipping from me right away.
I will check with them if the price would be within 50 EUR (from other posts not sure where in the world it was ~ 30 EUR if I recall correctly), then I'll get it repaired.
