Back vibrates while watching a video or listening to music - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

I just got a pixel 3 from a friend and to my surprise when I watch a YouTube video at 50% volume the back of the phone vibrates pretty bad, is this a flaw or something like that? This never happened to me with any other phone... Is there a way to fix this issue?

So everybody has the exact same issue with the speakers here but nobody is gonna say something about it... Ok I'm sending this phone back and getting a refund oh and thanks for the participation.

I've never had any issue with the back vibrating. My guess is it's a flaw or something. If anybody else knew, I'm sure they would have said something. Thank you for thanking me for my participation.

Really? Well that's weird because I found way too many people complaining about the same thing on Reddit, here and many other places... There's even an article about it, wanna take a look? Here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/bgr.com/2018/10/16/pixel-3-xl-review-supplement-design-flaw/amp/
Consider yourself very lucky if you don't have that issue, as for me I just got my money back, I showed the rep and he tried 3 more different pixel 3 and they all vibrated in the back like an earthquake.

Odd, not many posts "here" about it. I also do not notice this. I am confused, you showed the rep? What rep, carrier rep? Maybe your carrier bought a batch of defective devices?

Yes, carrier rep, just google "pixel 3 back vibration" and you'll see the results, my dream would be to find one that doesn't vibrate that much

I mean how much are you talking about? Sound is vibration so naturally sound coming from your device creates vibration. Have you measured it in comparison to these non vibrating devices. I am just confused, if your phone has no vibration is it not then on mute? I tried my wife's phone and an old device, seems fairly normal that with speakers turned on they vibrate.

Did you read the article i posted? It vibrates pretty bad, at 35%-40% the back rumbles like if it has a third speaker pointing at the back from the inside, it is that bad, i used many phones and never experienced something like that...
Here is a reddit post, have a look, read the comments: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/ak23vk/my_pixel_3_vibrates_when_playing_any_audio/
And here another one from xda: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/help/vibration-speakers-t3855051
I got a refund and bought the pixel 4 and there's no vibration at all even at full volume...
What i think is that you guys don't want to acknowledge or just ignore the fact.... anyway it's a pity.

It is not an issue of not wanting to acknowledge it or something. I think many people have just never run across the issue. Personally, I do not use my phone for watching videos and such, so I never even thought about it. When I went to play sound out of the speakers after reading your post I noticed some vibration, but the only thing I could do is compare it with other devices. It simply does not seem to be a huge amount of vibration to me. Again, though, I do not rely on the phone speakers for audio stuff. I could see how it could be annoying, but to me using a phone's speakers for audio would be annoying in general.

If you would use your phone to watch videos and listen to music it would bother you to the point of considering getting rid of it, I could just leave the phone on the table and won't feel any vibration but I generally hold the phone with both hands... Would you do something for me? Please watch this video clip of Queen at 40% or 50% of the volume holding your pixel 3 with both hands rotating it to watch full screen and let me how long you watch without the vibration bothering you to the point of just stopping the video.
Thanks

Asus Tranny Speakers

Hey guys...just got my Asus Tranny today.
I'm noticing sound only comes out of the right side of the tablet. It looks like there are speakers on both sides. Is everyone's like this, or is mine F'ed?
they're stereo speakers so you should hear sounds on both speakers.
on a separate note, i believe the common nickname for it is "TF"...let's not call them asus trannies (not that there's anything wrong with that)
TF...fair enough. I'm a car guy...its common to call the transmission "tranny"
So is anyone else here having this problem? Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing?
did you perform any updates yet. I could be an firmware/software issue. Give that a shot maybe it'll be fixed.
I searched for a software update but it says no update available. Is there a different way to update?

To be more specific and not make you search the numerous threads about this... the TF had a black screen of death that came with the OTA update. I know I had mine pushed that way and had no problems. You can dl it directly from the asus website, and hopefully you dont have problems. As long as you are not hooked on screen locking, it seems like this update works like a charm.

That in no way addresses the ops question though lol.
OP, that isn't normal. My sound plays out of both speakers. Tried plugging in wired headsets and then disconnecting? Software update may take care of it as well, though honestly it sounds more hardware.
I noticed my right side is louder than my left. When I noticed it I brought it up on #asus-transformer and a bunch of the guys tested their's and reported the same thing. I posted something on the Transformer FB page and someone said it's a known issue and it's not the hardware but something about the SRS config or something like that. I was told it would be fixed in a future update. But headphones sound fine. If it was software wouldnt it also affect the headphone sound?
I also have the same issue. Although the left speaker is working, the right speaker is so much louder that it appears to be the only one. I am hoping this is something that can be fixed by FOTA, but if not, then I will wait for supply to improve then swap it.

Yeah I have the same exact issue. Like 5 other guys that checked after I mentioned it on IRC chat and they all said it the right side was louder as well. I was going to return it but god knows when I'll get another one. I'm hoping what I hear is true and it is a software issue, otherwise it's getting sent for a warranty replacement. I already sent an email to asus tech support
so i must be the only guy that though you had cross dressing speakers, lol...
it seems to be a common bug. i noticed it on my first test and saw on modaco forums that others have had the problem. hopefully it's software related.
i also hope we can tweak the sounds. there's just too much treble compared to the xoom, whose audio i really liked.

Same here. I expected a whole different topic... I didn't know plastic surgery could implement speakers as well..
But on topic, my TF (!) also has this problem. In the FOTA thread it was already listed as something that still needs to be fixed in coming updates.

I agree, I think the xoom's sound was better, not as tinny. BUT I have to say... I have a Dell Streak 7 and the sound/speaker placement is much better than on the xoom and the TF
I hadn't really had the speakers before, but now I th them on a BBC video, I notice this same thing... here's going for a software update soon...

^this is my exact experience also. Seems like the pan setting got stuck on 90% right speaker and wasn't caught on the shipping build.

How do you know his doesn't like to dress up as an Ipad every once in a while?
Man, the longer I wait for the TF to be available, the more issues keep popping up. I know that there are many of you with flawless, perfect, beautiful machines, but the number of those with issues, and the diversity of the issues, makes me question whether I should just hold off even longer until they get these quirks tweaked out.
and hey.. OP change the thread title.. haha It does sound like cross dressing speakers. lol

Due to the nature of XDA and similar it encourages people to post if they have problems, no point in filling up the forums with topics/posts just saying "my new < shiny device> isn't broken".
Jump in with both feet, and pray yours is fine... then fix the inevitable issues

Speaker buzzing noise

Does anyone have a problem where the earpiece makes a buzzing or rather high pitch noise when the volume is loud on a call
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I have the same problem on a galaxy s 2.
it is random on calls. not sure if its a signal problem or rather a blown ear speaker. irritating at best, thinking what should I do with it now.

My device NEXUS 9020T has been sent to the assistance for warranty, but when they sent it back the noise was still there .... even replaceing pieces (I don't know which ones...
Is there any the solution?

Didi you take it to the service center for this specific issue or for something else ? What did they say about the issue ?
I'm beginning to become obsessed with this issue, so for the past 2 days I've been listening carefully to that noise and it sounds to me that it's not the speaker that's making the noise, but it's like the noise is coming from the phones housing...It's like something's vibrating when the speaker reaches a high pitch sound...
Also, I've been trying to see if my friends have this issue also on other Nexus S and Galaxy S (since it's the same hardware - with some extras ) phones, but this doesn't happen on their phones, however the volume on their phones is a lot lower than mine.

I spoke today with a guy that fixes phones for a living and he told me that the issue is the filter from the earpiece. The phone might've suffered a bump at the store when the people there handled it and that messed with the filter. He said that I can take it to the Samsung service to get it fixed or I can leave it like this... He said it doesn't get worst in time if the issue doesn't get resolved...
this happens on and off with my Nexus S 4g...it drives me insane!!!
I did notice one thing. If I hold the phone kind of tightly and squeeze the backplate to the phone it doesn't make the noise or it makes it less noticeable.

ok.... I do not remember what they have replaced, but i sent them my nexus s i9020T only for the buzzing noise.
They returned me with the same bug.... I've noticed, that when the buzz is in it, little tap on the back of the NEXUS and the noise go away .... it seems....
it could be that it is due for other components not well fixed to the chassis?
In september I will sent my nexus to them but I hope to read here the fix ... I had to wait "only" 45 days after sent my nexus to have it again on my hands

sorry to hear that.
I actually went to the samsung service centre some time ago, and the technician actually said that its normal to him. >_>
He put in some codes at the dialer and said something in the mic and it played the same words, (I ask him for the codes but he didnt want to give it to me) it did the exact loud buzzing sound from the in-ear speaker. I told him THATs the PROBLEM, but he was like thats normal man, if your speaker's blown, you would hear worse than that. He said he had to order a new speaker to have it "fixed" if I insist.
In the end I didnt leave the phone for the fix, thought to myself if I really can't stand it anymore I'll come back and get the speaker replaced or something.
so far I only had 2 friends that had the same problem. the other 3 friends has no such problem.
are there any news about the issue?

guys, I brought back my cell phone for assistance to fix the problem never repaired today! I inform you on his return
I sent my phone in for repair because my camera had a problem and I wanted to see if they could give me a stirdier volume button and fix my buzzing earpiece. The camera was fixed but nothing else. I think I'm calling later today to see if they can take another look at it. My cheaper lg optimus t doesn't have these problems so it's frustrating to see this phone haveso many problems.

ok I got back my phone (SGS2 internaltion version) from Samsung Service Centre, after a second persuasion they changed the front panel (whole LCD including the front speaker, not sure if the back speaker too, I don't know the structure of the phone).
And now, it's solved!! NO MORE BUZZING when making/receiving calls!
Definitely go ask for an exchange or a change of your panel guys! It's a HARDWARE ISSUE.
i still haven't sent mine in but after hearing that there is a REAL solution could you please tell me everything i should tell the person i talk to from samsung. i just hope they don't ignore the problem a second time and give me the phone back without doing anything to fix the problem.

I dialed a toll free line and let the engineer listen to the buzz, he seemed to be able to make out the buzz too. He said that it could be the glue used on the front speaker. I don't really understand how that would affect it.
But when I took back the phone and asked what was the issue, the same engineer informed that he couldn't actually find the problem, but he just changed the front panel with the speaker. I guess I was pretty insistent (the phone was still under warranty) and I even borrowed another dude's SGS2 for comparison (he was in another counter), everyone was staring at us.
Please note that I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S 2, the structure might be a little bit different, but from my search it seems samsung phones has the same buzzing with some the batches of Nexus S and SGS2.

[Q] Dodgy mic when in call.

My gf has been complaining ever since I got this phone that she cant hear me when I'm talking and that I sound all muffled. Been searching around on here and google and found a few others with this issue...Is this with everyone's device?! Or is it only a few that are having this issue?! I dont want to go back to my s4 I was hoping to sell it this week!!
RMA looks like it will take a few weeks too, but if all of them are like this..
I am also having this problem. Friends complain of low/soft voice. Zero problems on speaker, video recordings, and inline mic. Maybe a software issue?

Can you try covering the microphone on the top of the phone (maybe with your finger) while your on the call and see it she hears you any better?
I think the noise cancelling mic may be causing issues for some of us. Let me know.

Right so I left myself loads of voicemails.
Putting some bluetack on the noice cancellation mic does make all the difference in the world!
N/C Covered up:

Test 2: Speak with the phone a little away from my face (not on loudspeaker): Still hear fine

Test 1: Speak normally on the phone Result: Can hear okay
Test 2: Speak with the phone a little away from my face (not on loudspeaker): Cant hear anything very very faint
Test 3: Speak with the phone on loudspeaker Result: Can hear fine.
I made a thread a few days ago with mic concerns too but only when I was taking on speakerphone... I'm assuming it has something to do with noise cancelation
I was driving on the freeway today and talking on the phone with the speaker phone setting on, and the other person kept saying it sounded like I was getting disconnected. However, when I was at a stop or driving slower (without much background noise) it was fine.
Has anyone else ran into this issue? Or any issue using the speaker phone for phone calls?
Talking on the phone through the earpiece worked fine.
I'm trying to figure out if this is a hardware issue so I can get an exchange.

Speaking on the phone headset is fine for me, unless i move a little away from the mic, so if im not holding the phone directly to my cheek it starts to get quiet and cut up! I tried factory reset, removing all mods, kernel still seems the same. Its really annoying bcuase any slight movement away from my face and I get complaints from the other end saying they cant hear me! Spoke to google and they said just send it back, but im willing to pay £350 and wait 3 weeks for a new handset if they dont have stock..Im short on cash right now!

I don't think you'll have any luck with a replacement. In other threads I noted that I had this same issue with the Galaxy S3 and a replacement didn't make any difference. I think it's just the tone/pitch of some voices that get seen as background noise. Anyway, on the S3 someone pointed me to a setting to turn off noise reduction and that fixed my problem. I don't think the N5 has such a setting.

I never had it with the S4 either. I had one of the first international S3s. I flashed alot of ROMs and at some point I stopped having to change the setting, so it must have been fixed in an updated ROM.

Well, I just increased my overdraft to cover the cost of the replacement while I sell my s4, I really cant go back to it...this phone is t fast to leave. Im on the phone to google now for a replacement just to test it..make me feel better that it may just be software
I've also been getting complaints from my wife about barely hearing me sometimes. I then called for an RMA and ironically, I was talking to Google Support using the N5 and the conversation went without a hitch. I still followed through with the RMA purchase but will continue to test my N5 and see if this problem persists. I can cancel the order within the next couple of days if I find that my N5 is fine, or if it is shipped before I can cancel, then I will just return the new one, or keep it for my wife, or sell it for a small profit. I hope that it's just my wife's hearing cuz I really love this phone.

I fixed it for myself by editing build.prop.
I changed persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=true to false.
That disabled the noise cancellation for normal calls.
The fix for those without root would be to cover the secondary mic on the top of the phone I guess.

Wish I could explain to Google that by turning noice cancellation off it fixes it kinda... But then id have to confess on rooting :/
Noticed it's pretty hard to talk outside.. Walking along a road.. Left myself a voice mail after my Gf complained about the noise (God she moans) sounds of cars going past really load... My replacement unit should be here tomorrow.. I hope it's not equally ****ed

I've been using the phone for a couple of days and all calls have sounded perfect, but today I finally talked to my wife with her new N5 and my N5 and I have to tell you it sounds horrible. The mic on these on the other side sounds dull and low. I hope this gets fixed with a software update. How is the fix with the build props working for you guys. I'm tempted on trying it out. I could hardly hear my wife, (maybe that's a good thing).

Audio Issue Questions?

I'm having a few Issues with audio on my pixel that I'm having a hard time finding answers to.
1. The biggest issue that I'm having the hardest time finding info about is this; when listening to music through my headphones after about 5 seconds there will be a pop, the all the audio on my phone will stop working completely. no, mic, no assistant, no headset, bluetooth, speakerphone, or speaker in general.
2. Often, my pixel will just not detect headphones at all. or detect them, then play no sound.
3 Sometime only the mic stops working. I know this one is common in android in general.
A reboot fixes all these things, but the headphone pop happens every single time. I'm talking with support now and they want me to factory reset the phone, so we'll see what happens after that. My questions are if any of you have found fixes, and if the problems happen on custom ROMs. And Does ROMing void the warranty on this phone?
Did you buy your phone from Verizon or Google? The pop and audio dying compare results of a poorly made headphone plug. Check with another pair of headphones and see if you get the same results unless you already have. If the alignment is slightly off it could be shorting across contacts although I don't understand why would work for a short period of time and then stop.
I had the issue with several pairs of headphones and auxillary cables. I talked with Google support and they had me factory reset the phone, and that seems to have fixed the headphone jack issue. The other issues still persist with the mic and call problems though.
The guy from Google support doesn't seem to be getting it. I told him that I'm still having issues the other stuff, but he keeps asking if I tried other headphones. This is the 5th time he's asked.
Yeah, the mic only works about %20 of the time. I've had to restart my phone just to make phone calls for about a week now. I'm going to try and get a replacement.
I'm having an issue from time to time where the phone speaker at the top stops working when taking a call. Only happened twice in 3-4 months. reboot fixed it... ugh..
That's how mine started. Now, o times out of ten I have to restart my phone and pray that my phone likes me that day to make a phone call.
Figured I would pop in here guys. Had a Pixel since launch and have had myriad problems, mic stopped working and couldn't make calls, headphones not being recognized. Factory reset didnt help, safe mode no help, etc. Scoured the net and found on google product forums a possible solution, tried it and so far it has worked.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/phone-by-google/4kyIdArEve8
basically go to clock app, find alarms and delete them, then delete data and cache from clock app and reboot. worked a charm for me, try it out.
I'll give this a shot. How long has this been working for you?

Occasionally. Typically a reboot fixes it for me.

also fyi, my verizon new/possibly refurb phone was received today running 7.1 , not 7.1.1 , i thought some had questions about that.

I'm just waiting until I get another screen ordered for my MXPE to swap my pixel. If that one has issues too I'll probably just try to get my money back. I love this phone, but that's not an issue I can handle.

If it's not, then it has to be a really deep seated software issue. I flashed pure Nexus to see if it still did it and had no luck at all. Lol

Question Static

So, WHats up guys?
Finally jumped back on the Pixel train and got my 7 Pro last night. After all the fun updates i noticed that when i make a call now, there is a strange opening of a call with a tiny bit of static and then it goes to normal. Anyone else experience this? It doesn't hinder the call in any way, i just found it strange.
PSA
Absolutely loving the phone. Near 24hr after a charge with 24% left but i forgot to check SOT but im sure it was close to 6hrs which is good for me.
I did see one other post that was similar to this. I've never had that issue, and iirc nobody who replied to that post did either.

Hi Avid_droid.
Yes, you are not alone in this regard.
I don't know if it's a coincidence, but my wife threw my cell phone from the table (half a meter more or less), and since then the following happens to me:
I make a call and I hear some interferences, something like "Clack clack", sometimes there are many, sometimes only 1 ... sometimes none ... it's very strange.
However, I think it has nothing to do with the drop... maybe it used to happen to me before and I didn't notice.
Sometimes I can go days without hearing that interference, and I think that everything is fine, but I hear it again. I have restored the phone several times and that does not solve anything.
Fortunately, it's not something that prevents me from making calls or using the phone normally, but when you spend a lot of money on a phone you get screwed by these things.
The bad thing about this is that I have read that if you talk to Google they will send you a refurbished phone, plus you will be 1 week or more with nothing.... I think I'll live with this problem (if it doesn't get worse).

Yeah it doesn't interfere with call or quality it's just odd right? It wasn't there yesterday and today it returned. I think maybe software issue cause I didn't experience it prior to updating.

Yes, it's not the end of the world, but I have to say I'm very disappointed with the overall call quality.
I have an old Huawei mate 20 that has much better call quality than the Pixel, .. and it's a 2018 phone!
Resignation.
Finally, and after a few days in which the problem was more frequent, I have decided to use the google warranty and return it for repair. I've upgraded to an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I guess I'll sell the Pixel 7 Pro if it comes back repaired correctly.

From what I have read, it is ultimately a hardware failure and the only option is replacement.

I replaced my device the other day and best thing I did. No issues as of late.
I have to wait for my cell phone to arrive in POLAND (from Spain) and wait for it to come back... ****ing disgusting.

Yes, mine does this as well. I've noticed it but not paid attention to it til i read this yesterday. I thought it was my Pixel Buds Pro (Which take FOREVER to connect when I take one out of the case to answer a call) - but today I'll try to use the phone itself to answer calls and see if it's still there

Sorry.. I think you are right about this.
I actually think the Pixel 7 Pro looks like a better phone to me than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but I bought one for a bit of a change of scenery.
I really regret it, I will surely return the iPhone 14 Pro Max if the Pixel 7 arrives repaired. I hope so.
After several days in RMA, Google has sent me an email telling me that the phone had an AUDIO problem and that it will be repaired.
Which seems strange to me because the audio in multimedia applications was perfect.... But well, when I have the phone in my hands I will tell you.
Well, the phone has arrived home. So far so good, although I have not tested it too much.
I will keep you informed.
EDIT :
After several calls, the problem continues. I'm throwing in the towel, I'm not going to go another week without a phone. As a bonus, I also have some dirt on the lenses, which I didn't have before.
I'll put up with this interference and strange noises on every call until I send the phone to hell in a few years.

May be a hardware issue. That's what it seemed like with mine. There is no static any more but the small pop is still there. Pop on my Buds Pro and issue is resolved. Now the watch is another piece of bad judgement. I'm on my second one and thank the creator they gave it to me for free. $349 for a watch that sounds like it has a badly blown speaker is hardly worth it. It does what I need it to do though, time and messages.

Latest news, Google is sending me a new terminal.
The truth is that I'm starting to be unconvinced about the purchase, and it is likely that I will end up buying an s23 ultra or similar.

For me now, there is nothing to complain of about the phone. I like mine. My wife has the 23U and I don't like it. It's slows way down and feels like a 60hz phone. Also with the load speeds, I don't like Sammy. I walk around all day withy Pixel 7 Pro and my 13 Pro Max everyday. Didnt like the esim thing either.
