Huawei device without Google Services: Do I need a Huawei account? - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I am interested in a Huawei device without Google Services.
But I not wish to register for a Huawei account.
Can I use this phone without any cloud account and install only apps from F-Droid and receive Android updates and fixes?

Yes, you can use it without a Huawei account if you will not take advantage of the Huawei cloud as well as its app market.

Do I receive security fixes and new Android releases without any account (Huawai nor Google)?

Sure, you will receive any security fixes and new Android releases as soon as they are available.

Sorry I don't understand your big grin.
I am newbie.
Then Huawai phone is the only mainstream Android based system where you not need to register? Is this correct?
Is there any bloatware and other crap preinstalled?

Big grin? Just a polite smile.
My current phone is a Huawei device. So, I am sure about that. But I am not clear about other devices.
I think it's fine as there is not any bloatware on my device.

They might find a way like making a new app store or using their appgallery.

dont you think that google might block them from connecting to their servers etc so it might not be that possible after all
That's what I read, this phone will now able to connect to google calendar or google drive which rely on google service.
Of course, Huawei has Chinese apps alternative as what China people using in China.

I was planing to do the same since its quite easy to install both gplay services and gplay store , but the problem is the phone is not going to get any future android updates. whats going to happen when android 11 comes out.
Andoid is open source so i guess we will get updates, i am going to wait on Huawei to clarify a bit first
Android Open Source Project, AOSP is free to use for anybody. Huawei pay Google about 5$ per device and preinstall Google Apps and Services.
You will get a Huawei Mate 30 with Android 10, EMUI but without Google Play, Gmail, Youtube, etc.
It is Android, so you can install it and use it, like any other Android device. On Xiaomi Mi Store (chinese version) there is a Google Installer.
I understand Google Mobile Services is easy but how about Google Pay and over-riding thaty SafetyNet thing?
I remember there was this work around using MAGISK?? But do u have to root in order for it to work?
confirm can install

Mate 30 fingerprint is safety net compliant
Its fairly easy to install gapps on it
Most of New released models where already pre certified, as this happened before the ban..
Wanda Mobile, a reputable UK retailer, is now selling this phone "with Google Play Store installed".

It will work like any other Android phone except it does not have the licensed Google Mobile Service (GMS) built-in; there is an app that one can download to install the google framework that will install Google assistance which will allow Google Play Store to be installed in the phone. Because the phone does not have GMS so many apps in Google Play Store will not work. One will have to get from alternative source like APKmirror
Ok Guys. I have a M30 and it has not been easy to install GMS on it. As you know LZPlay app is dead. And installing framework, services and play Store is not working. I get force close after the install.
Any thoughts on this? (bootloader locked and unrooted)

Hey, Boas Super Dragão!
Unfortunately it´s not been easy to install gapps since the LZPLay backdoor wich was using undocumentede APIS has been closed. I have a Mate 30 Pro with Bootloader unlocked and no root. I tried a bunch of suspicious GMS installers, and tried to intsall the services and framework manually with all the available permissions and the result is always the same. App force closes. Just presumed you are living in China. Shouldn't be hard, they can live without Google, FB, IG, whatsapp. So can you.

P40 PRO with GMS notifications issues

Hi everyone.
I'm writing this for everyone having problems with notification from some apps.
Right now I not receive notification from:
1. Twitter - not at all. And I can't go into setting for Push notifications
2. Gmail - that's funny. I receive one notification a day around 8-9PM.
3. Youtube - no notifications
4. LinkedIn - no notfications
And some specific apps for my country like: Inpost and OLX.
Share what's your experience with that. Maybe we will find solution.

I am the same. Only WhatsApp gets notifications. All others don't work
I installed GMS just out of curiosity and had the same issue. It seems like one of the Core functionalities of GMS is still incompatible/not working (Firebase). You'd expect WhatsApp to always work as it uses a separate Push service protocol.
Yeah, Gmail definitely does not work. =/
I have a hunch this is all tied to using such an old version of google account manager. (v4 is only version that still works)
This problem is because you are not registered in push notification by gms. Youbhave to choose GMS or push notification for this moment.
Seems like some have got it working, see here: https://mightygadget.co.uk/how-to-install-google-play-storeon-the-huawei-p40-pro-without-notification-errors/

I wrote that. It was to disable the notification nags you get when you get GMS working - it is not in relation to receiving notifications from apps. I will look into this today though.

Nice work it was a good guide so thanks . GMS currently running on my P40 pro at the moment no major issues. I did get an error this morning regarding google account services but its gone away and not come back. I also got the autocomplete working on apps just by changing the autofill settings to google and all seems to be working fine (most probably already know this but it may be helpful to some). Only issue i have run into is Netflix is not working with the latest Software update (incompatible device) but I'm sure they will update it soon.

I have only done it via USB, but it shouldn't make any difference at all, as long as you get LZ Play and the APKs on the phone it should work fine.

Play store didn't have Netflix for me, I had to install that via APK Pure, but it works fine for me from there, it will only work in SD though.
I have had the occasional random notification that google can't log in my account, but then it carries on working as normal.

Hey mate, thank you for your work. Just a quick question, do you think Huawei can/will patch these methods in the future? I know they don't allow bootloader unlocking, but they could at least continue to allow people to sideload GMS on their phones. I already ordered a P40 Pro though so it's kinda too late now, but I'm just wondering what people think.

Good question, but there is no way of knowing for sure. I am sure it is possible this method may stop working in the future, but I doubt Huawei would be the ones to prevent it. The general consensus is that neither Huawei or Google wants to be in this situation, Google obviously earns a lot of money from people using their services and Huawei is likely losing a lot of users by not having Google on their phones. The issue will be if Google has political pressure applied to them to stop these workarounds. I don't imagine it is that hard to blacklist devices, or maybe anything running a specific chipset.

Well let's hope they keep it working like this indeed .
Another question @MightyGadget, what do you think of the security implications using this method, considering the modded apps that are being used etc.? Is it safe to use as a daily driver with all kinds of personal stuff on it?

Well, aside from installing some apps that might be stealing your credit card details and username/passwords for other apps there is nothing else really ...
I was too tempted to buy the P40 pro after previously owning the P30 pro, but the lack of google services made me change my mind. It's a brilliant phone, sadly.

if you really thinking about seucirty or privacy you wont be using google at all that just doesnt mix. im sure google knows more about you than your parents at the moment.
2nd are you not using 2fa for your bank or your accounts? im sure even somebody tries to login your account with 2fa enabled they have like 0.1% they can access it and make payments for you.
Well, I'm not refering to google, because yes, they know more about me than myself, but when you install the chinese google play services you really don't know what else you are installing. A keylogger would be a fine alternative to steal all your data ... Just a thought.

I've updated mine to .158 and nothing has been lost. I'm not sure, however, if upgrading to EMUI 11 will have an impact yet.
Ah, that's good news! I thought I read somewhere that contact sync stopped working on .158, but this is not the case for you?
Emui 11 maybe a problem , have to wait on reports about the beta and loss of gms.
its available to some Euro countries and China.
I'm on .154 and contact sync works, but I can't create a new contact on Google from the phone... Google account is not recognized from the contact app. Not sure if it ever worked on previous versions
Hi. I'm on version .158 on ELS-N04 and Google Contacts Sync is working great. I've created a contact from the phone app and from the Google Contacts app, and both have synced great appearing on Google Contacts on the webpage.

Update:
Actually not sure if the issue was due to Emui version, but I did have issues with contact sync on .154, it's now solved!! :cyclops:
But follow this thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p40-pro/help/google-contacts-calendar-syncing-t4148967
Even though I don't have .158 available, I think contact sync and emui version is not directly linked you can go ahead

Pre-May 2019 Huawei and Honor telephones will keep on getting security updates and current gadgets that due to get Android 10 will in any case get it. Huawei workstations will get all the Windows refreshes in the customary way. However, recently delivered Huawei telephones can't utilize Google administrations and this is set to be a drawn out issue

Switch from iOS to 8T - some questions

Hello
I did pick an Oneplus 8T on Prime Day, its still sealed and
last 3 Days i collect some Informations about Android / OxygenOS and about Custom Roms and Debloat Stuff.
I had an Samsung Galaxy S2 as my Daily Driver , at this time Android was really Bad
in the end i Root and used Cynagon with Android 6? idk anymore.
since those Days i used Apple Devices as my Daily Driver, i try some breaks from the Apple ecosystem with an P30 Pro and S10+ ( for an Month ) but switched back to iOS cuz Privacy issues.
And this is the Reason why i start the Thread "Privacy" is important for me.
So how is the Privacy and influence from Google to Track and Spy at you if u:
1. Create a New Account
2. Turn everything OFF u can
3. Dont use Google APP´s / Services ( Not that hard .. if coming from Apple )
4. Debloat with ADB
and using maybe only the Google Playstore.
Thanks for any helpfull comments
Lineage OS is officially supported on the 8t, for privacy i'd flash that and not use gapps. You can get your bootloader unlocked easily and be off the to races
Or just use oos and debloat all of Google apps with xxxnolimits magisk ROM
You can use Android without creating a Google account. You can also disable pretty much every app.
You do need a Google account to use the Play store. So if you want to install apps without an account, just download APKs from the internet.
Just curious, what kind of information do you not want to share with Google? Or Apple for that matter?

Harmony OS update and Google

Hi, I have a P30 (model ELE-AL00) bought from China a few years back. I have Youtube, Google Maps, Chrome browser, Play store, Gboard keyboard, Google, WPS Office, Office, Drive, Google Voice, ... apps installed on my P30 (with EMUI 11.0.0.155(C00E155R1P5)). Now I receive an update for Harmony OS 2.0.0.165. If I update from the current EMUI to Harmony OS, will I lose all the above Google apps and Microsoft apps? Thanks

Thank you so much for the info and the link. I will upgrade my P30 to Harmony OS in the next few days.
My guess is that everything that has to do with Google (apps / services) will no longer be installable / executable, and Huawei can also live well with it: Huawei's main market is China itself and the company holds there a market share of ~40 percent.

As far as I know, both Google apps and Microsoft apps will continue to work well on a Huawei P30 phone after the device upgrades from EMUI to Harmony OS.
Just please make sure that you have disabled the 'Pure Mode' on Harmony OS in order to sideload an apk.
