Short version:
Recently updated to the latest Hal9k 9.0 from stock 8.0. also updated the MCU. I had a couple USB drives I always used and never had an issue with them. Now I do.
After restarting the car, the USB drive (same with SDcards) says "there is a problem with the drive. Click here to fix" which to fix it, it wants me to format the drive. I did exactly that on one USB drive and still had the same problem.
Long version:
My only real complaint with the stock rom (and reason to update) was a lack of customization. Mainly the music app. I was using Musicolet rather than stock because the stock app is basic at best. But every time I started the car I had to manually click play and it would restart the last song rather automatically continue where it left off. Same with a few other local music apps I tried. Luckily, the upgrade to Hal9k's ROM fixed that problem...
The problem I'm having now is... Everything works fine until I park, turn the car off, etc... I get back in, start the car, and the song comes back on and plays like it should until the buffer is empty. Then tries to skip to the next song. But can't because of the storage error. It says "there is a problem with the drive. Click here to fix" which to fix it, it wants me to format the drive.
If I hold power to completely restart the stereo, it works perfectly fine until the next time I turn the car off and on again.
Tried various different things. Including using the stock app. All had the same result. Same with or without the "Reset USB devices when booting or waking up" enabled in the Mod settings.
At a loss for this. Hopefully someone has an idea.
First I tried a 128GB USB stick that was overheating causing it to drop out while I was driving. (Never had that issue before updating with the stereo but do have that issue on a PC when mass copying data to/from it. Figured it would be fine for the short burst of access required for MP3 playback)
The I tried a 32GB and 16GB USB had the storage error issues described above. And a 64GB and 8GB SDcard also having errors on wakeup.

Little surprised to have had zero comments. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Found if I pause the music before turning off the car it has the storage issue less. But, that kills the smooth no touch playback I'm hoping to obtain.
Really wanting to turn off the car, have music pause, get back in, start the car, and music picks up where it left off 100% without touching the stereo.
I do doordash, ubereats, etc for side cash and as a result can be in and out of my car a lot in short periods.
Don't be surprised everybody's in isolation watching Netflix instead of at work passing time on XDA Anyway, you should ask your question on the appropriate Hal9K thread. It would seem USB doesn't get properly re-initialized on wake up. I remember a thread where someone removed a resistor to fix a similar issue with USB that caused WiFi to drop but that would only be advisable if the software can't be fixed. This solution might help you until Hal9K fixes it.

Hey all - tried to search for this but didn't find anything... I have a Kenwood car stereo that plays iphone via usb port, but I wasn't able to see how to get it to work by seeing the SR as a media device. On my captivate, you could choose 'media player' as a usb mode, but that wouldn't work either. Any ideas? I like the idea of playing music while being able to charge the phone at the same time. It does charge off of the deck via usb, but just can't get it to find the music on the SR.
That is such a coincidence, I just put in probably the same (or similar) Kenwood stereo into my car (KDC-248U). I was looking around on the website and under the KDC-252U they list an Android app "Kenwood Music Control" it's in the Market. I am going to give that a try later today.
*** EDIT
Apparently the app analyzes your music or something and then puts a file on your device to make it readable, worth looking into.
Also check here http://androidforums.com/android-media/167502-kewood-car-deck-problem-solving.html
Nice call! You have to have the music on the external SD though, in case anyone else has a problem getting it running Then choose 'auto output' in preferences. Also appears that the program stays active all the time... which I'm not crazy about, but it does work!

That's great news! I gave it the ol college try but came up empty. Maybe you can help me out.
First what model stereo do you have and second, how do you store your media on your external SD , in a folder "music" or under a second level folder? Lastly, how did you get it to recognize did you plug it in and quickly choose USB storage or did you plug it in, choose USB storage and then cycle sources till you landed back on USB?

So I've been playing around with it and now I can get it to play all the time. First plug USB into phone then into Head unit. When head switches to "Reading" change source to something else (Radio, Portable, etc.). Now enable USB storage and open Kenwood App, while doing this switch to "USB" on the source and it will play.
Now I am having lots of issues getting new music to read, I have tried manually analyzing to no such luck. What options do you have on? I noticed that at one time on reboot it re-did the scan.
It's not very elegant but it works. I wish I didn't have to use an app running all the time.

I first scanned the music so it was all recognized by the app. Plug it in, and while the stereo is showing 'reading's then turn on the PC storage (and assuming you have auto output enabled). Then it worked. Clunky, but better than nothing for linger car trips. My stereo is the x695 excelon deck.

Kenwood Music Editor Light
After playing around a bit it seems really clunky and I don't like the idea of the app running all the time. However I did find a solution, the Kenwood Music Editor (Light Edition).
http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/music_editor_light/english/download.html
You are still limited to music on your external SD card but it does not require the Kenwood app to be running or present to work. It was meant to make music playable on any USB device so it can be used for flash cards as well if you are having issues reading them. You plug your device into a computer (Windows only) and then run a scan and you should be good to go.
After doing this it's the same situation to play for me, plug in and turn on USB storage (it takes long for my phone to get into USB storage so that is why I have to cycle the Sources after it's connected to get the stereo to play). It remembers track position and everything.

newer car-stereos usualy suport any file when you put the phone in "storage-device"-mode.
im looking to get controll over the phone from my stereo, yther use the player in the phone or spotify. works great whit an iphone, but cant find any solution to get the same controll from my htc desire hd...
im guessing its not the stereo itself but the phones software thats the problem, not allowing audio out or controlls in from the microUSB
id love a solution to this though
Check out the other apps like kenwood music control for android:

Hi all,
Been reasonably happy with the z3 so far but I'm having problems with Bluetooth connectivity, specifically in my car. I'm used to an iphone, which works flawlessly, but the z3 only seems to be able retain a connection for 10 mins before slowly reconnecting. It's become frustrating as it restarts some of my tasker profiles(?).
Has anyone else had similar issues? Are there any known fixes for this?
I've tried turning off stamina, wifi, bluetooth timeout, display timeout, re-pairing my device - nothing has helped!
Cheers,
Russ

The normal Stamina mode (not ultra) won't disconnect any connection just limit background process.
This can be bug in firmware So try to repair it by PC companion
+ and a question; is this happen with another bluetooth devices or just with car?
cause if it happen with car it can be software compatibility & ...
Thanks for the reply. I thought I would update.
I did try checking for firmware updates but I found a different solution shortly after. I downloaded the 'Xperia Z1 Bluetooth Fix' from the google play store, installed it and selected the Tune2Air device (when it was in range). Since then I've had no reconnecting problems! I have no idea what the app has done but it has completely solved the issues I was having. I suggest giving it a go if you are having similar symptoms. :good:

I get this all the time, constant every couple of seconds when connected to my Mercedes Comand unit..
I will download this app and test it out, hopefully it sorts it.
I have Volvo V40 and when I step in my car with my bluetooth on, I see on my Z3 Bluetooth connect and then disconnect. This repeats all the time. When I then disable bluetooth and enable, the problem is gone. I don't know for sure, but what I have see on my car's phone menu, although I get these disconnects on my phone , the disconnects are not noticed by my car. But again, I didn't look into that yet. Do you have similar problems?
Hi all,
Great to know im not crazy bcuz im having the same issues in my toyota as the volvo. My phone automatically tries to pair & sometimes this works flawlessly, yet other times it connects, stalls, then spends an age tring to reconnect & all the while the cars head unit still perceives a connection. What i hav noticed is that i get great connections (fast & from where i left off) when i pause before switching off my car. If i dont pause then i need to manually connect even if the phone says its pairing with my car. Iv come from a nokia n8 which worked flawlessly however i could not control the volume from the phone which i can do from the z3 & i was wondering if the problem could be with either the phone or stereo having conflicting memory of what was last played, volume level , etc. As there must be data stored somewhere on either or both devices.
Look at this page for an explanation of Sony, seems to be a problem from the bluetooth version of the car:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...s-connecting-disconnecting/td-p/853609/page/2
I dont think its necessarily the car as the problem i outlined is resolved if i pause the playing music before cutting power. I should correct an earlier comment. My problem is with playing music from my phones harddrive via a player such as the native music player, vlc music player, music visualiser, etc rather than streaming music so im not sure what peolpe using cloud services or internet radio can do.
Does anyone know why pausing the music before leaving the car is necessary when in my experience using bluetooth 3.0 didnt require this?
Hi, I've been having some fairly big issues with my in-car Bluetooth and phones. I have a 2013 Subaru WRX with the stock stereo which is made by Clarion.
I first started experiencing problems with it about 2 years ago: I would be driving along when all of a sudden my phone would randomly disconnect from my car while I'm talking, listening to music or just had the GPS running (or a combination of these). Oftentimes my car stereo will spaz out once it disconnects and will actually freeze (all buttons are non functioning, including steering wheel controls, power button, am/fm buttons, volume, etc) and take many minutes to reset the connection or it won't do anything at all (the stereo says, "please wait" or "paused" or will get hung on the song title that was playing when the phone disconnected) and my phone won't reconnect to it - I'll have to restart my car. Sometimes the stereo will reset and simply won't reconnect to my phone.
The kicker is that it's an intermittent problem, but still happens semi-frequently for periods at a time then it seems to get better. I've tried deleting my paired phone list in the car and on the phone, I've tried formatting my phone and nothing worked. I even brought my car into Subaru to diagnose the problem because I feel it's a car issue and they claimed it worked with their own phone which I feel is BS because they didn't want to fix it while the car was still on warranty, but that's another story! They said they couldn't fix it because they saw no problem (couldn't reproduce it) even though I provided them with video and pictures of it occurring.
This first started happening with my unlocked, stock, HTC One, m7 (currently running lollipop) . I thought there was a chance it could be related to an app or the OS but was not able to diagnose or isolate the issue. I just recently bought a Nexus 5x (marshmallow), unlocked, stock, thinking if it was the phone then this would fix the problem. It actually seems to have gotten worse with the frequency, however I've noticed that the phone is better at pairing with my car after the connection is lost. I still can't reproduce this on a consistent basis.
Can anyone suggest some possible causes and fixes? I'm hoping someone here is a Bluetooth Guru!
Sometime ago I copied few video files to my dock's sdcard, but than when i wanted to watch them, there was no sound (through speaker, jack headphones and bt headphones = totally no sound).
I tried other files from internal memory or tab's sdcard and there was no sound either.
However later i undocked the device and the sound returned. I forget about it for some time
Few days ago I got my MiKey fakes (I know that it's not original, but I got them for free) and it apps works that it asks You what was connected when You plug The Key (coz they have more than one similar things, but one app).
So when I connect the dock it ask to choose what is connected.
Coz of that I'm 100% sure doc is seen as something with "jack plug" and Android is using it as audio output.
Anyone knows what app or other thing can be cause of this problem?
Any app which has full control over dock, so I could try to clean it's data?
I'm on 4.4.4 PAC-man. Was thinking about clean flash, but there has to be a bug with latest version (have no other, links down) that since the beginning You got SystemUI FC (I was dirty flashing it over older version than, so everything was set up before and works fine till today)..
Hi,
since I got Android 11 on my Pixel 3a, Spotify tends to interrupt the streaming. As long as the screen is on, it works smoothly. If it is off, it goes on smoothly as long as the buffer is still full (I guess), but then the dropouts come quickly, sometimes several seconds long. It's not the Internet, energy saving mode is not on as well. I installed Spotify again, that didn't help. What could I do?

I experienced the same issue on Android 10, when I connected my Pixel to my VW car with bluetooth. In Spotify settings there's a checkbox called 'spotify connect in the background' (or something like this). I selected this and my issues were gone. Maybe this can help you too?

It does not happen when my Bluetooth Headphone is connected. Only when using the internal speakers. Any idea?
I've been experiencing this same issue with my 3a XL too. Ever since the Android 11 update it's skipping audio streaming over bluetooth but I've noticed it with podcasts mainly. It happened while listening using Pocket Cast and Youtube. I also noticed it stopped happening when the screen was active but when the screen went out it happened every 5 or 10 seconds or so. It's really annoying and makes bluetooth playback practically unusable. I hope I can fix this and not have to buy a new phone.

Yeah, I found some more people with this issue. It's definitely not a user mistake or device-specific. I also did not find a fix so far.
I've been having this issue with all audio. I really only listen via bluetooth but has been experienced on spotify, stitcher (podcast app) and audible. Super frustrating
The same is happening on my wife's Android 11 Pixel 3a, only with Amazon Music instead. When she plays music via bluetooth to a speaker, it will be okay for a minute or two, then start skipping. I made to download the playlist offline, so it's not a network connectivity issue. I also placed the phone right next to the speaker, so it's not a bluetooth signal issue.
My guess is that it's something to do with the screen and power-saving or something. IT SUCKS
Similar. Pixel 3a Android 11.
Bluetooth connected to 2 different Bluetooth systems skips terribly, more noticeable with Spotify podcasts, sounds fine in headphones and phone speaker but over Bluetooth listening to podcasts or audiobooks is just intolerable happened with Android 10 as well though to be fair.

Hey everyone, I found a fix that worked for me on some subreddit (credit to /u/Langduscher). If you haven't come across it yet, here it is:
1. Settings
2. Go to apps
3. See all apps
4. Click the 3 dots and show system apps
5. Find Bluetooth
6. Storage & cache
7. Clear storage
That did it for me. Spotify has been working over Bluetooth for half a day now without problems
Edit: as for internal speakers, if you have problems, I don't have a solution for that sadly. Internal speakers working fine for me

Thanks, that sounds like a reasonable solution. We ended up doing a factory reset on my wife's phone, and that solved the issues too. She noticed that after the wipe, the previous bluetooth devices (3 different audio things, plus her Garmin GPS watch) were organized differently. Wiping the bluetooth settings makes perfect sense.

I had the similar problem on my pixel 4a. You just need to sign out and sign in again to fix the problem. If you do not have premium I would recommend you to download modded spotify app for the best results.
