I'm just curious on why people choose the 8 over the 8 pro, I have ordered the 8 and my reasoning was the size, I currently have the OnePlus 6 which already feels big to me and anything bigger would be impossible for me to use with one hand.
I chose it because of the price difference (£200 for slighly faster memory and better cameras) and the fact that, from a OnePlus 5, the enhancements would be so good, I wouldn't need the small extras that the OP8Pro would give me. So far, I haven't been disappointed. I didn't think about the size.
Alan
The reason on my side was the height and especially the weight. I already had in the past an oneplus 7 pro and I sold it because it was too heavy (206gr).
Since then I own a galaxy note 10 and the size and weight is totally in line with me, hence my choice for the standard oneplus 8.
I'm debating between the 8 and the pro and I was wondering if the screen issues being reported on the pro are also found on the regular 8. Is anyone with an 8 experiencing screen issues?

The ones being discussed on the pro side of the house:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8-pro/how-to/terrible-screen-tint-uniformity-t4084539
For me it was the size, especially the width. 72mm + case is comfortable to hold and use with one hand but 75 with a case i can't handle.
If you don't care about the width i recommend the 7t. I think is the better option for the price.
I have no issues with my screen btw.
no issue on my oneplus 8 screen too
Cost
No issues on my screen when I put the display brightness right down.
Thanks all, I appreciate the feedback!
Am in the same boat. Really concerned about the size of the pro so considering the 8. However the screen technology on the pro is better so really torn!
Just got my 8 today was torn as well but prefer the smaller form factor and a extra £200 just for wireless charging that's not important for me don't use anyway and IP rating is not a issue and with all the issues with displays in the pro glad I did the difference from 90hz to 120hz is minimal yet from 60hz to 90hz is a lot more noticeable
Camera again ok might be bit better but only take odd snap so not issue even £100 for extra 4gb ram isn't essential really and that green is yuck if was nice amber gold or red (sure to be some point in future ) might have forked up another £100 so far no issues with display so all good and good choice for me personally [emoji16]

The main thing for me is price with the same performance. I don't use wireless charging. And No issues with the display too.
For me it's :
Price difference
Size
No screen factory installed protector for the pro amazon UK.
Having had both phones in my hands, the regular is definitely more comfortable and haven't seen any performance drops between the 2. Definitely the 200 extra for the pro isn't worth it.
Because it's all I could get on a Jump upgrade from T-Mobile
Was my only option In a sense as my carrier (red) only sells the 8. Is nice to see peeps choosing da reg OP8 over the Pro as I almost just went with a LG instead. For the fact there's nothing extra I see that justifies that 100$ hike n price outside of mm mave capable. My understanding was vzw's version was to be the 12gb/256 but it is not
I got the 8 Pro for myself, but I ordered the 8 for my wife for the Interstellar Glow.

Put all specs bs aside, buttom line:
Less screen .

No headphone jack.
No dedicated second stereo speaker (earpiece).
Price-LOL...
Your opinion?
Having just purchased the Mate 20 X 5G I can honestly say it's a stunning device, and that I really do love the 7.2" Display.
As you will be aware the 5G variant doesn't have a headphone jack (this doesn't concern me as all my headphones are Bluetooth).
I have also Pre-ordered the Note 10+ 5G I don't think it's inferior, intact it's the only device that incorporates the pen and it's actually a fully functional tool (yes we have the M-Pen) but it's not quite the same.
I never dismiss a product but I do agree that for the Note line it ought to have been better and for me personally that would have just taken two things (on top of what was announced) those are a 90hz Display & 5000mah battery. This didn't happen and was a disappointment to which I think Samsung will regret.
However as I don't own a Samsung currently to have both the Mate 20 X 5G & The note 10+ 5G I'm in a very happy position. Two powerhouses that perform very differently but each has their own strengths and weaknesses.
I own a EVR-L29 (Mate 20 regular version)
I was an avid user of the Note line (as shown in my signature), and i always had issues with battery life not lasting long enough. I use it a lot during my daily commute & work (Spotify, 3D Gaming, Google Maps, BT headphones & Smartwatch, Note-Taking, Youtube & a lot of photo/video taking). I always had to charge intermittently whenever i could.
After switching to the Mate 20 X, I never had to charge at any point throughout the day/carry a power bank. It just lasted me until night despite my power use. The big screen was a joy to look at and game with.
The only thing i missed from the Note was the S-Pen. Sure the Mate 20 X has the Mpen but it feels hard & slippery and counterintuitive to use. I also wish the Note 10+ had a bigger battery but understand the space constraints when factoring the space needed for the SPen.
Having said that, like @Duncan1982 I have pre-ordered the Note 10+ (non-5G) and will use both devices. Lets see how the new Note fares.
Wouldn't trade mine M20X(4G) for any sammy device.
5000mah 7.2 inch amazing cameras and performance and awesome speakers
Wait for mate30.

I noticed the slight bulge in my regular front pocket initially, but after awhile it felt normal
I'm interested in what the screen size difference is side by side. 6.8 vs 7.2, but the note plus has a larger screen to body ratio. Has anyone held both yet? One in each hand. Interested in how big of a difference the screen size actually is.
Let's face it, the note 10 For day to day usage it will never be as good as mate 20 x in the area that matters the most, BATTERY LIFE. Galaxy Note series always had it's own magic that called the Spen but to be honest, better camera and longer battery life is all that matters these days since even the 300$ phones have the speed and good displays nowadays
The longer I have this phone, the more valuable it is to me. You see the new phones coming out, with mediocre upgrades and a hefty price tag.
Note 10 Plus is a great phone, no denying that but in the UK it will cost £1000 for the 4g version. In the UK you can buy the Mate 20X and get a Huawei Watch GT for £499.
Stellat battery life, fantastic screen, the Dolby Atmos stereo audio is amazing, HDR display... And fantastic camera for me just keeps me with the Mate 20 X. If course you have the Pen with the Note 10 Plus which is no gimmick.
Also I prefer a flat screen, the curved screen doesn't do it for me... Horses for courses
I answered my own question today, I held the 10 plus and my mate 20x. I was surprised how small the note plus felt at 6.8 compared to 7.2. I had pre-ordered one just in case, but I think I'm going to cancel it. The screen is lovely no question. But I don't want to go backwards in size. I hope a Mate 30x is in the future and the rumors aren't true that they're going to kill the line.

Yup that's what I saw in person when I compared them. Really no comparison screen wise, now to see if we get lucky and a Mate30x is in our future, I'd love to have wireless charging.
Tested the N10 today in the store, the plus version.
It's SMALL compared to the 20 X, awesome screen, ok speakers but the rest is same as s10.
M20 X FTW
I'm very tempted by the 20 X since it's day one (finally a phablet close to my old Xperia Z Ultra), however I'm not sure whether EMUI would be to my liking. It seems that the MPen isn't really as useful as an S-PEN... Additionally Samsung DeX and Linux on Dex are really good. I guess Easy projection is close to DeX, albeit less polished. But there's nothing like Linux on Dex on Huawei's side.
Still can't decide (of course there is the 500 euro price difference).

EMUI 10 inspire by OneUI, I think. It optimized for one hand operation plus M20X battery life is the beast so likely I want to keep M20X over jump Note10+. For me Note10+ advantages are smaller footprint ( still big screen ) and SPen. Cons: M20X much better in term off P/P.

There is no Mate 30x coming due to Mate x (folding phone) and Mate 20x 5g.
Note 10+ is easier to see in sunlight compared to Mate 20x.
Note 10+ has better camera quality (not by much however)
Mate 20x is louder and clearer sound.
Note 10+ pen is simply far superior & incredible.
I still own a Mate 20 x. No intentions of leaving. It is my daily.
My problem with Samsung is that they use punch holes and curved screens. I really don't like/want that.

i feel your pain lol, am an architect and i hate those very useless curved displays , i have no idea why they do it. the size of that mate 20x is just what the note line should be , i dont know of the screen quality currently on the mate 20x but 2k would be much better for sure and add an spen to it and thats the most perfect phone, and tbh even without the spen i think its the most perfect phone size wise, speakers wise etc
Hello everyone, I want to buy a OnePlus phone & have to choose between OnePlus 7 Pro vs OnePlus 7T which should I pick? Please help me decide.
It all comes down to your personal preference.
Do you prefer a curved display or a flat one.
You want more battery capacity or you think the new warp 30t charging tech can make up for having a smaller battery..
Do you prefer a notch or you want to wow people with a pop up selfie camera.
Do you feel the slight improvement that the 855+ has is better for you..
Other than those things. Battery capacity, display, notch/pop up.. and charging tech the phones are almost the same and yeah that macro lens..
I'm on the fence on which to buy myself..

7 pro's display is hands down one of the best display in the market right now.
If you want 256GB of storage you have to get a Pro. 7T maxes out at 128GB. Also the 7 Pro can be had with 12GB of RAM.
I would also add aesthetics...for me anyway...that back camera circle thing is just plain-ol-UGLY! The 855+ is a non-issue as I highly doubt you will ever see, or experience anything that shows one over the other. All the other arguments previously mentioned may be valid.
P.S. I have the 7 Pro and despite many who disagree with me online...I have tried both screen resolutions, as well as 90 vs 60 refresh rate....and there is just NO difference to me at all! (Let me get my flame suit zipped up here...) I am running all the latest software updates, I have had the phone for several weeks now, I have swapped the various screen settings many times with different apps....and...NO discernible difference!
I have wondered if by some chance the settings do nothing??? Maybe the screen is set to its highest available DPI and refresh rate and switching to the lower settings is not doing anything???
Or, maybe it is the other way around??? That the screen is set on the lowest settings and switching it to the higher settings does not really change anything??? YMMV
But I am telling you that the 7 Pro flies through anything and everything I throw at it. (I do not play games though) So, it is up to you! Boy it sure is getting warm in here.
Also, according to jerryrigeverything, the 7T suffers structural weakness for that ugly camera circle, the 7t he was testing cracked on the first stress test. While i am in no way a fan of the curved screen, i do appreciate a notchless QHD display.
One more thing which may, or may not be an issue for some...the notification slider button is smaller on the 7T than on the 7 Pro.
I would say for now the OnePlus 7 Pro for the win!
I have both. Right now I'm using the 7T as my daily driver. I like the flat edges but the notch is a little annoying since the apps cant use that space.
I would get the 7 pro. The curved edges and bezel less screen is amazing. 7t has an ugly back.
7 Pro also has a better display in terms of resolution.
I bought the 7 Pro about a month ago coming from a pixel 2 XL. The phone is great in every respect. The only thing that bothers me is the weight. This thing weighs a lot. ?

So I see and read all the videos how disappointing the Pixel 4 series is. I'm thinking of getting a One Plus. I see that there are different varieties of the 7 series . On your suggestion please keep in mind thdt I do like My pixel 2xl size. For a big phone it's comfortable to hold and now too tall. I see that the 7 pro is very tall.
So I'm open to hear what you owners think. Also to stay with Verizon , is the One Plus website the only deal ? Lastly would you know what Google features I'd miss or not get
Thanks!

Hey man, I also used Pixel 2 XL since it was released. I was disappointed in leaks of 4 XL so I picked up 7 pro about 2 months ago. Size they are fairly similar in size, weight you definitely feel the weight difference with 7 pro bring heavier. Dimensions they are fairly close if you check. I definitely missed all the Google pixel features but a lot of roms have same experience plus more such as omnirom tresk mod. For the display alone is worth moving from Pixel 2 XL to 7 pro I think. Good luck man.
I've had pixels before, then I tried the OnePlus 7 Pro and have never looked back...
You will miss the Pixel quality camera. Works on Verizon really well. Best Android skin ever. Screen is great, speakers good. I have a 2XL and the 7pro. Android user for a long time. First time I can say in 15 yrs I have been looking at an iPhone. Google can't seem to get out of their own way. Pixel 4/4xl is just the latest example. Good luck.

Great info thanks!
1- What about buying?
2-I want to stay with my current line would I better off buying direct from One plus? They have the finance offer.
3- How is their launcher? customization ? At least equal to the Pixel Launcher or close to Nova?
4- What features did you miss from the Pixel?
Thanks
I came from the Pixel 2XL om Verizon network. I've had mine just a few days
1 - Bought mine direct from OnePlus. Guarantee it would work on Verizon network that way. Just make that phone call to switch to CDMA Less.
2 - I pay cash for all my phones. I did see financing on OnePlus site though.
3 - I used Nova Launcher on day one that I bought the Pixel 2, I also used it on the Nexus 6P before that. I'm currently using the Stock launcher on the Oneplus. I can honestly say that the Oneplus launcher feature rich and that I don't miss Nova at all. Probably the only reason I ever really used Nova is because of the stupid Google search bar on the Pixel 2 and 6P. You don't have that problem on Oneplus, You can remove it I would say its closer to Nova to answer your question.
4 - I think the only thing I'll miss is the free original quality uploads to Goggle Photos. The pixel 4 does have the original picture quality upload and no finger print sensor so those 2 things were the deal breaker for me for the price point they are asking for the Pixel 4XL with only 6 GB / 128 GB
I bought the 12 GB / 256 GB version. Gotta love those specs more that anything over the pixel series.
Hope this helps in your decision. Feel free to ask anything else.
Hey Jeff , nice write-up!
I thought that one of the beefs is that the p4 does not upload original photo quality for free.
How would I know if I should get the 7 or 7t?
Plus is it true that it comes with a screen protector out if the box.?
Thanks

1. i have the 7 / 7T & the 7T Pro, if you're into heavy gaming i'd suggest you pick up the the 7T Pro, if not, the 7 Pro performs really well on the 12GB ram version.
2. Yes, all of the OnePlus 7 devices come with a pre-installed screen protector & a silicon case inside.
If you have more questions, feel free to shoot them my way
Jeff,
What about warranty advice?
Also, do you think my pixel sim would work or do I ned to contact Verizon for a new sim?
Plus, the One Plus website doesn't offer the 12GB ram version yet, only Amazon. . I think I may go for the 8. I can't justify the price and as is I''m going from 4 to 8.

I must say... If you rely on a good cam, the OP should be not your choice. Unfortunately.
But if not, everything speaks OP7pro. The screen is amazing, performance great. 90hz ftw!
And i don't think the 7t pro is necessary. Unless you game a lot.

I decided to swap my Pixel 2 xl on Oneplus 7 Pro 5g and it was serious mistake. Advantages of Oneplus 7 pro in compare to old one Pixel 2 xl are;
- ultra wide angle
- phone is a little more responsive but it's not really something which makes noticeable difference for me. I know that most nerds cannot prevent erection while talking about oneplus 7 performance but I don't share their experience at all
- fast charging is huge improvement especially in compare to Pixel 2XL
However the Pixel 2 XL also has a lot advantages in compare to Oppo Oneplus 7 Pro;
- Absolutely everything else is much much better in Pixel 2 XL. I even prefer Pixel screen because of curved display is probably the worst 'improvement' in smartphones history.
Pixel 2x is much better overall device in my opinion than Oppo op7p. I was able to find out three Oppo advantages over Pixel however if compare to g8s and probably any other flagship it's worth nothing. As example I will compare with LG G8s;
- ultra wide angel in LG is wider and overall camera experience are better mainly while recording
- G8s is still very responsive and in daily tasks the same lightning fast like OP7P
- Faster charging in Oppo is worth absolutely nothing because of limited compatibility with my chargers and it will never replace wireless charging
OnePlus is not water resistant. It's not a problem for me at all in normal circumstances but this phone has quite large gaps not only between frame and back which collect a lot of dirt. It's look terrible and I have never seen that in any other flagship. Overall Oneplus is good phone but it's not flagship. This phone is rather very good mid ranger with flagship soc because everything expect soc, ram and storage is in oneplus far worse than in any flagship phone on market. I regret that I bought this phone. Swapping Pixel 2 xl on Oneplus 7 pro was huge downgrade for me.

First of all, it's his own opinion, it should not affect what you decide on buying or not.
To simply put it out for you, if you want an AMAZING camera, don't buy the oneplus, if you want a good camera, then go for it. That's for the camera only.
As far as the reply from the guy/girl above, i have really no idea why the negative bash over the OnePlus, i've been a OPO user since their 1st device, and tbh i've never..EVER.. considered any of thir devices a Flagship or a Flagship killer like they say.
The OnePlus 7 Pro and the 7T and the 7T Pro, i have all three, and all three are performing AMAZINGLY for me in all situations, except for the camera, when it comes to taking pics i user another device, but that does NOT mean the OnePlus camera is bad, no, you just cant expect it to perform like the Pixel phones, that is all.
You want the OnePlus to perform super good camera wise? Get the GCam port APK and unleash the camera powers with that
Again, like i said, go for the 7T Pro, since you're aiming for the 8GB Ram 7 Pro, if the price difference is not huge

1 - I do not have a warranty on mine. You have 30 days after purchase to signup for whatever it is Oneplus is selling. I probably won't get insurance at all.
2 - I just switched my sim from the Pixel 2 to the Oneplus 7 Pro and called Verizon's 800 number and talked to tech support and they did the switch my device to CDMA less over the phone. Took just a few minutes.
3 - I though about going for the 8 myself over the 12. I used my sons student beans discount so I got mine for just a little over $700. If I did have the discount I would have gotten the 8 for sure. Plus buying from Oneplus you can avoid paying tax. That is it or miss on Amazon these days. Far as 7 pro 12 Gig Ram, I see its no longer available on Oneplus web site. They must be out of them.
To answer a few questions from your other posts:
1 - I know can always pay to have your photos upload to original quality to goggle photo/cloud service. But free is free. And it was free on the Pixel 2, lol.
2 - Yes the screen protector comes pre-installed. They also give you a nice clear silicon case as well.
3 - I would of considered the 7T if it came with 256 memory or a Micro SD slot.
4 - Far as that negative review. I would take that with a grain of salt. You show me a new flagship phone and I will show you a negative review, lol.
IMHO, I feel that OP7 Pro is superior to the Pixel 2XL in every way. Even the Camera with its 3 lenses. You won't be disappointed.
To Inpain and JeffBea, Thanks!!!
Now I'm a bit on the fence for the 7T pro or the 7pro.

I'm a performance guy but I'll probably go for the 8 Gig on either model. Can't see spending the extra $200 plus unless you have a serious case to persuade me
Thanks Again,
Rich

Now I'm a bit on the fence for the 7T pro or the 7pro.

If that 200$ is the price difference between the 7 Pro and the 7T Pro, and you're not a gamer like you mentioned, then go for the 7 Pro
Guys I am really confused between buying oneplus 8 or 8 pro. I cant go to stores to checkout both the devices and relying on your reviews for my purchase. I personally like the form factor of op8 and have an appreciation for compact devices overall. I am mainly concerned about the display quality(primarily), 120 vs 90 Hz, camera quality and haptic feedback and does it make a diff in real life. I have watched reviews about the battery life too and op 8 has significantly lesser SOT than 8 pro. If any of you guys have both devices please post some images and your feelings about the devices or feelings about op8 in general.
My usage varies from using social media, video calling, browsing web, lite gaming, and reading a lot of books and watching youtube(not movies).
Please exclude the price factor while giving your valuable opinions.
PS - Asking it here because of software updates improving the devices continuously. No youtuber can factor in those changes.
I dont think you will find many people who have both devices. My experience of the OP8 is that the 90hz refresh is great. No issues at all. Camera quality works OK for me coming from a OP5. There is no doubt that the OP8 Pro will have a better camera but how much better? I would bet most people can't tell the difference in picture quality, so then it comes down to what features do you want. Haptic feedback seems OK to me.
Is the OP8 that much more compact? Look at them side by side, there's not much of a difference. My OP8 is fine to hold. I've bought a flip case so I can let it stand in landscape mode to watch movies.
Both devices are getting regular s/w updates.
I know you didn't want to talk about price, but honestly, I think it's the deciding factor - that and the extra features of the rear cameras. There's not much else that differentiates the two.

I've had both. If I had it to do it all over again I would have kept the 8 pro. Don't get me wrong the 8 is a good phone but the pro is so much better imo

Really and truly the size isn't that much different to be concerned with. As for battery I was running qhd at 120 and was still getting around 4 to 5 hours on screen time which imo isn't bad considering the resolution and refresh rate. If you went down to fhd at 120Hz I'd get like 5 to 6 and if I ran it at 60Hz I'd get 6+ depending on which resolution.

I used both, its safe for me to say in terms of performance, battery life and screen refresh, I didn't notice any difference. What did it for me though is the size, the 8 regular is definitely more comfortable to hold and I have big hands. Also the £200 difference couldn't be justified!

Did u get to test the camera? Also what do you think about the display quality of both the devices in real life.
Is the 8 pro the only with wireless charging? I like that feature because its less wear and tear on the USB plug, every wireless charging phone I had always kept a tighter USB connection , berter when using for data transfer. all phones I have had without wireless charging eventually end up getting less stable / lose USB connections. Motorola use to have a lot of wireless charging phones then they stopped adding them.
The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking about buying one, I didn't notice a finger print scanner or expandable micro SD card slot when I skimmed over the specs. Are these missing?
Thanks
I really wanted the 8 Pro when it came out but did NOT want to spend $900+ for a phone.
The only thing i really didnt like on the 8 pro is the slopped display but im gonna be running a case regardless so i dont think that will be that much of a problem with a case.
Then the 8T came out and i like everything about it except that it has a 1080p+ display instead of a 2k.
Now the 8 Pro is only $50 more then the T so which would you get?
FYI im comming from a pixel 2xl (and no i dont want the 4a or 5 they suck)

Most would probably go with 8 pro because of how premium it looks+high res screen+wireless charge+early roms and don't care for 65w charge. 8t users are probably people who hate curved edge screens that's my main reason and the 65w charge is fun to use since this is the first time it's been brought out in the US and the fastest ever so far. People are scared of battery damage but it doesn't really get as hot as I thought just a bit warm and looks similar to 33w warp charge temps on the 8 pro when I checked some tests on YouTube. Plus I don't use wireless charge and I'm not sure how noticeable the resolution difference is because I've been using 1080p forever and don't mind it. 120 hz from 60 hz is very noticeable though but that's on both of these phones anyway
For only 50 bucks more and if you don't plan to pay monthly for either, the 8 pro is looking like a pretty good deal though
I would go with the 8 Pro as well. It's got a larger, higher resolution display, wireless charging, and because it's updates are a lot more solid currently.

Go with 8t or wait for op9. It is rumoured to be launched in April.
Coming from someone who has had both, they are both very nice. I think they are pretty much on par with each other, I liked the pro but there really isnt anything im missing by getting an 8t. The photochrome was removed. I may be biased, i had the in2020 in America so i could not get 5g.

Mostly people are going to use the main camera and ultrawide only. And with gcam, they both work great.
I ordered the 8 pro 12 GB ram 256 gb
I never owned a pro myself but recently I read about it having some screen problems that the 8t doesn't. Is that true?
go with pro
I also was in this decision and after trying 3 8 pros in the shop all of them had display issues so I went with 12/256 8T and it's amazing

Exactly!
Same. Curved glass is a big no from me. I was excited when they said it was a flat screen.

Compared to literally anything else other then Pixel (or apple) they are leaps better
I would of loved to go pixel. But the pixel 5 literally checks 0 boxes for me
I hate curved screens so that's why I went with 8t upgrading from 7pro
The downgrade on display really isn't even noticable
