There's a thread going on over in the OP Community where they reckon that O2, even though that has 5G, won't support 5G on the OP8.
This is weird to me because the OP8 is advertised as being '5G ready'. One reason I bought this is that I live in the UK which is rolling out 5G. I have a vodafone contract (SIM only) which includes 5G and I now have a 5G compatible SIM. So, I would expect that, when this lockdown is over, I can go into Manchester (near me and which has 5G) and my phone would start to use it.
But am I wrong in this assumption? If so, what is reality? What do I need to look for and who do I ask? If this is not going to work, I need to send it back before my 30 days are up.
Cheers
Alan
So u buy 5G to go to a 5G area to use 5G?
Vodafone use 5G NR n78 (3500MHz), like o2, EE and Three.
OnePlus 8 Pro (EU version) support only N78 for now and will get N1, N3, N7 and N28 with next updates.
The chinese version of the OnePlus 8 Pro support NR N41, N78 and N79, will also get N1 and N3 with next updates.
The US version (from oneplus dot com) N2, N5, N41, N66 and N71.

Ah, so if I've had the update which supports Three (which I have), then it will also support Vodafone. True?

I am thinking of buying it unlocked in the UK. Is it going to be the 5G version or 4G? Because as far as I read it is exclusive to EE and will be available later.
Hi everyone,
From my understanding, the 5G version (EE) is more expensive and has 5G, but: a) does not support dual sim, and b) receives updates much slower than both OP7Pro (4G) and OP7 (the 5G version seems to lack the camera improvements in the 4G versiom)
It seems the other 5G versions don't support dual sim as well (because of the 5G modem) but given the poor firmware update support, is it worth it to get the 5G version (esp if it will be your phone for next two years) or to just wait for 7T pro 5G (hopefully with dual sim) or for other phone manufacturers to release 5G phones with dual sim?
Thank you

No.
Not worth the money. Current 5G phones use 4G to establish network connectivity and only upload at 4G speeds.
Waste of money to get a 5G phone before 2021.
yeah waste of time. My mate has a 5g one plus 7 and hes still back on .4
Still too early for 5G...
Coming from a 5G owner, it's definitely not worth it because development is non-existent...

When we will have 5g network, yes. Now, NO !
Here some testing 5G networks in Elisa Finland network with OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: https://mt-tech.fi/elisa-5g-verkon-nopeustesteja-oneplus-7-pro-5glla/ (Finnish).
Download and Upload speed transmited over 5G network, signaling data on 4G when using Huawei equiqment.
Has dual SIM.
I'm tempted to buy and import to UK. However, not sure:
1) If Wifi calling works (I've seen online some short-codes to input into dialler). Anyone know if these work (specifically 3 UK)
2) Situation re. network. Obviously I'm pretty sure 4g will be OK but not sure on 5g (Currently 3 UK and Virgin UK/EE/Vodafone)
Any suggestions?

I'm using on Vodafone not the best network, LTE would be more of a problem with no band 20, 5g would be fine, I haven't been to 5g area to test other people in Europe have no problems with 5g
Xioami explained that the china modem and bands are quite different from Europe. With 4G you won't have B20 band and 5G antenna works differently (that's why in europe it's not dual sim).

I have had china version to test before the global.
5G in Italy didn't work very good in the china Mi 10 pro. I mean that the global version has a 25% more speed.

Is that even possible, or lockdown and heavy usage at the time of testing, side by side?
My Chinese version works fine on 5G in UK. Not sure about Italy but in UK we only use N78 5G band and the mi 10 Chinese version has that and several other bands so I'm not sure what you mean by a 25% difference in speed?
Hello everyone,
Guys, I need help to find out witch 5g bands are supported in my device (OnePlus 8 IN2013) Does anyone know ?
My software version is: 11.0.9.9.IN21AA
If my phone is the NA version, I think that I am in a very bad situation, because my country started the implementation of the EU bands (n1, n3, n5, n7, n28, n40, n77, n78).
If my phone dont have these bands, the 5g will not work. So I really want to know if my version (IN2013) is supported. I really appreciate any help. Thanks
Thinking of importing the Pixel 7 Pro from the US to India since India doesn't have a 256GB or 512GB version.
Will I be able to use dual sim in India with VoLTE?
And will I get 5G to work in India?
Please help!

So VoLTE and 5G won't work and neither will dual sim?
Will installing the Indian ROM work?
According to youtube link, it may work but u need to buy unlock phone only and it should be bought with full payment with no emis
And regarding warranty only Google support would answer best.
5g update will be included in December with feature update
The model sold in India is GP4BC, and the one in the US is GE2AE. The main difference is the radio bands, but I believe it should work fine.
For example, the GP4BC model supports LTE band 32, but GE2AE does not. However, from what I see, LTE band 32 isn't used in India. In any case, carriers support multiple LTE bands, so you should be fine for LTE coverage with the US model GE2AE.
For 5G, GP4BC supports two additional sub-6 bands (75 & 76). From what I see online, these 5G sub-6 bands aren't used by any carriers in India as well, so 5G sub-6 should also work fine if you buy the US GE2AE model.
