Question, is there anyway to have a Samsung Dex-like experience with a Oneplus phone - OnePlus 7 Questions & Answers

Greetings!
and sorry if I'm doing anything wrong here I'm just wondering, I was amazed with the samsung dex app you download from their site
connect your phone to pc via a usb-c cable and that's it you get a desktop
the desktop/window mode thing I guess is already existing to be used when you connect your phone to a monitor via type-c to HDMI
but is there anyway I could copy that mechanism to my windows pc ?
I've been searching for a while and really didn't get any results
Thanks so much in advance to anyone who would try to help !

Get a usb c to hub adaptor from the interwebs. Download taskbar and second screen from playstore. feels like crap, throw everything to trash.

Dex app
I use the OnePlus 7pro and the sentio app for my nexdock 2

Controlling remote PC using Teamviewer

I have a Nexus 5 and i'm willing to connect via Teamviewer to a PC.
From where I am connecting I can use a screen and WiFi, USB keyboard and mouse and Aukey 7-Port USB 3.0 (powered usb hub found here)
What is the best way to setup this for a confortable environment?
I have to stay few hours using the phones teamviewer and do stuff in the remote PC.
Few ideas I have:
- Using Samsung EDD-S20E (samsung dock with HDMI output, but might not work due to incompatibility) or similar dock
- Chromecast 2 (miracast or any other)
- DeLock 65468, slimport micro usb to HDMI.
The problem is that I need phone to be charging during teamviewer since it drains a lot of battery, and also few usb ports for keyboard + mouse + storage, I've been thinking of the next:
-usb hub + OTG in the phone.
-chromecast 2
-wireless charging the phone while use, since I cant charge it while OTG I think.
Is there a better alternative to this?
I'm not sure I even understand your question. You install Teamviewer on your PC. You install it on your phone. You have a unique id to identify the Teamviewer PC session. You can set a password on the PC Teamviewer session so that you don't need to see the temporary password on the PC screen - so you have true remote access. You start Teamviewer on the phone, put in the unique id and password and connect.
What's all the stuff about Samsung docks, HDMI, Chromecast...? It sounds as if you'd find it simpler just to buy a second laptop.

Oh maybe i wasnt clear enough, its not about the Teamviewer itself.
Its more about:
What would you do if you had to stay connected to your pc from another place a few hours a day? using your phone of course...
Thats why I asked for a "confortable setup", so I could achieve this.
Well, in that position I wouldn't use my phone - I'd get a cheap second-hand laptop. The things you mention may be possible, but look like a great deal of unnecessary hassle.
As your question has nothing to do with the google Nexus 5, you would be best served by asking here TeamViewer Forum

Can NOT access Folders from PC

I've contacted Support from Essential but with no luck.
My problem is when I connect the Essential to the PC it automatically opens up
Windows Explorer and show NO FILES in FOLDER.
Any help would be most appreciated. I would love to transfer some pictures and music
from my PC.
Thanks
You are pulling down the notification bar and changing the connection from charging to transfer files, correct?

Had same issue, Windows 10 x64. Windows Explorer would take forever to load the folders, then when they finally did, there were random blank folder icons and just a whole lot of weird going on... Yes, USB Transfer was selected from pull-down. Reboot of phone made no difference. Factory Reset, no change.
In the end, it started working normally after switching USB cables (Anker). I don't have USB-C port on my laptop, and was using another type of USB-A to C cable at the time, so I'm wondering if that was my issue. The Anker USB-A to C cable worked just fine, and haven't had the issue since.

Windows is notorious for phone connectivity not working if the USB drivers aren't correct or you have a bad cable.
I'll order Anker cables today...Thanks
I'll try anything. I just ordered the braided cables from Amazon and they show the phone is connected and charging but no files or folders.
I will order them today. I really appreciated your responses.
By the way, I just received the 360 Camera this morning.

Anker makes quality cables. I use them on my devices. That very well could have been the issue.

I didn't know I had to go to notifications in order to see the files and folders
in Windows Explorer. Evidently, either does the Zendesk Support they are using.

Always start with the easy stuff.
Just received my device yesterday. Attempted to connect my device to my Windows 10 PC directly to my USB-C 3.1 port and it read the phone fine. I got the same issue as the earlier post, the phone shows PH-1 in Windows explorer. When I click on the phone to view the files it acts like it is loading the info, shows weird random folders, locks up then disconnects from showing up on the PC. I also attempted to use a USB-C to A plugging into one of my USB 3.0 ports and still the same thing. Has anyone gotten this to work yet? I am on Windows Creator Update. Thanks.
Me Too
Yep, got my Essential Phone a couple days ago. They're shipping these with just a Type-C USB cable. While I appreciate them future proofing things and all, my computer doesn't have a type C port. I ordered a Type-C to USB 3.1 adapter and also ordered a USB 3.1 to Type-C cable (cuz who doesn't need a spare cable, right?) Sooo .... I got both cable and adapter today. Same problem as described above. It detects the phone just fine, but all you get is "No Files" or "This Folder is Empty." Just "punting" and trying to copy to that big blank nothing errors out.
Yes, going to "Notifications," finding the connection and changing it from charging to file transfer works ... kind of. You can copy files in, but you can't do jack squat with them once they're there. And Essential Phone ships without any File Management app installed. (Or maybe they hid it far too well for me to find it??) And frequently, I'll get halfway done copying crap and then it craps out and stops copying half way through.
Essential is in serious danger of becoming a pure android enthusiast niche phone only. I don't think Andy Rubin wants to limit his phone's appeal like that. Clearly copying and managing files between the phone and PC and file management on the phone itself should be pretty basic stuff. For pretty much every other phone in existence, you plug into the computer and you are at least prompted on your phone whether you want to give your PC permission to access files on your phone. I've never seen another phone where you couldn't move/delete/copy/manage files already on the phone from your PC. Simply put, it shouldn't be this complicated and it should just work.

Samsung Dex on all Samsung Phones that support Dex with no dock or HDMI

Hi i will show you all on how to use Dex on your Samsung phones that support Dex without any accessories.
All you need to do is make sure your rooted and use Es File Manager or FX File Manager to navigate to system(root)/system then edit the build.prop
ro.build.characteristics=phone change the phone to tablet
once you have changed that save it and reboot then go to settings and disable your lock screen has there is a bug where it just reboots your phone so you have to use a custom lock screen like Hi Locker that's the best one i have used.
once that is done scroll down your notifications and click the 3 dots then button order there you will have Samsung Dex just put it in your notifications and then click on it and then there you have it Samsung Dex working on your phone
You will notice some apps will act like there on a tablet here is the list of apps

This makes for inefficient use of the screen/phone. Just spend the $30 and get yourself a USB-C hub with video out and use Dex as it's meant to be used. When I am on the road, I patch it into the hotel tv. I carry a mini wireless keyboard and mouse. Boom. Laptop replacement w/o the bulk. No root required.
After Android 10, we can use DeX mode with USB type C only. Cheers
Thanks for the nice tip!
I Love dex mode.
This tip is good for TV Samsung with mirror screen.
It Is my case :fingers-crossed:
But, if anyone needs to use dex wireless with any TV Brand

Hello Leon. My Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro is about getting upgraded to Android 10 on September. Do you mean with that Android version you just need to plugin the USBC to USB standard and it will work? At the moment I connect it to my MacBook using Samsung Dex and it doesn’t recognise my tablet... [emoji20]

Huawei Desktop mode on Samsung Dex

Hi, has anyone tried to make Huawei Desktop mode to work with Samsung DeX station? I needed a USB hub to hock up my keyboard and mouse along with my TV via HDMI.
And I happen to have the DeX station for my work phone, Samsung S8+.
BTW, does anyone know how to make Huawei Desktop mode to work with Windows laptop like the way Samsung DeX for pc works?
Huawei Desktop Mode works fine from the P40 Pro via from USB-C hub (with HDMI, ethernet, USB ports) to my monitor 2560x1440
Unfortunately there are no resolution settings with the Huawei Desktop .. but there are resolution settings with Dex
I do not have a Dex Station to test.
I am not sure about Huawei Desktop on a laptop.

Thanks for your feedback, I may get myself a USB-C Hub to try it out then. Any recommendation?
BTW, I did try out my P40 Pro on the DeX, and it worked albeit not 100% perfect. The sound output to TV was muffed to a tiny volume by default. By toggling it between Auto and Mobile phone to Display device mode managed to bring back the volume to normal.
Here's a few screen shots while testing it:

I would research on amazon and find a USB-C hub that supports Dex .. then you should be ok for it to work with Huawei Desktop Mode.
I bought x3 and luckily x1 was successful.
is their any way that we can extract the dex mode apk from huawei?? i am sure it will also work on my phone if it one out so can y guys see for any apps which u may think is responsible for dex mode experience on huawei phone, u can use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.olalab.appbackup this app to take backup of that app and share...

Trouble using my Samsung Galaxy S9 with a USB-C Hub

My Samsung S9 has had some screen damage and the touchscreen mostly does not work.
In order to navigate it I must use a mouse that I connect to the phone using the supplied USB C- A adapter.
I wish to get my phone repaired but I wish to backup all the data upon it first.
If I plug my phone directly into my PC, it asks for my permission to allow the PC access. However, since the touchscreen does not work properly, I cannot press the button to accept.
I could not plug both the mouse and PC simultaneously.
So I bought a USB-C hub. (Actually I've bought several, none of them have worked, this latest one is the most expensive and I had hoped it would work - (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07ZVKTP53/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
It has a separate port for USB-C Power Delivery and a separate one for data.
I plug the attached USB-C cable from the hub into my phone, and then I plug my mouse into a regular USB port, my charger into the USB-C PD port, and another USB-C to A cable from the USB-C Data port on the hub into a USB port at the back of my (new) PC.
Now my computer does not recognise my phone at all, nor does my phone seem to acknowledge it is connected to a PC. The mouse still works upon the phone and it charges fine through the PD port. If I plug the phone straight into the PC, it is recognised, so I do not think the problem lies there. The hub seems to block communication between the phone and PC.
I would like to backup my data and get my phone repaired. If anyone can solve the USB-C Hub issue or propose another solution to my problem then I would be grateful.
A mouse and keyboard will take priority over anything else in a hub.
I'm betting the hub's power is 2000mA or 2.0 Amps.
What does your fone charger state its power is? Add the mouse, keyboard, and fone's milliamps together. If it's more than the hub's power pack supplies....
In this situation, I would use Vysor, this will defo solve your problem, it allows you work with your fone on your pc/lappy by providing a lovely window that is a duplicate of your fone screen, you'll be glad you found this!!!
I can provide an old cracked version I used for my emergencies, if there is no objections?
Then you'll only need the mouse to use as your finger
Google Vysor. case closed lol.

Hi
Thanks for your reply
It's not a battery hub, but just a USB-C hub (check the link). Power comes from the PD USB-C port which is hooked up to my phone's original USB-C charger.
It also fails to work even when a mouse isn't attached to it.
I will look into Vysor. Also thought about the possibility of using a standalone bluetooth mouse which would free up the cable.
Your fone will suck the life out of a poorly powered hub, by using vysor, your pc/lappy mouse will work your fone using vysor, best app I've ever seen for working with broken screens, just plug phone direct into lappy, vysor works if you've no screen at all!!!!!
Use
Vysor
www.vysor.io
...Njoi
Dont pay for mouses/hubs in this scenario. Just pay for a top quality tool. I would place this as my number one android tool for ANY fone.
Again, if all your doing is data recovery (saving your stuff) I have a patch for an earlier version to unlock full version I swear by, you could use this once if only to try before you buy
The hub supports 85W fast charging directly from mains, which is what it is getting.
How do I enable USB debugging specifically for the app?
I have enabled it in developer options but when I connect my phone via USB to my computer as per the Vysor app, another window pops up on my phone asking to allow USB debugging. Ask there is no mouse attached to the phone at this point, I am unable to allow it.
