Playing old Mattel LED games under Windows Mobile

Back in the late seventies or early eighties, you may have had a Light-emitting diode (LED)-based handheld game console. They were manufactured by Mattel and a complete list of them is available HERE. They were pretty simplistic but still great fun and are, today, very hard to find (they’re typically a collector’s item offered accordingly at high prices).
Should you want to play some of these games under Windows Mobile (or, for that matter, Palm OS or the desktop Windows (even Vista)), you will want to turn to Peter Hirschberg’s LEDhead, the faithful reimplementation of some of these games. While only part of the original LED games have been re-implemented (compare the list of the originally available games HERE and the implemented games HERE), you may still find the currently available games fun or, at least, nice to bring up memories of those ages.
Fortunately, the games run flawlessly on all Windows Mobile devices – even WM5 / WM6 ones. Some example screenshots of them running on VGA devices:

As in the desktop version, the main menu allows for selecting the game you’d like to play. You can also redefine the hardware buttons (unfortunately, the app doesn’t read all the buttons dynamically – that is, if your handheld has more than 4 buttons, it’ll still list only four)
Getting, using
Get the emulator HERE (alternate download HERE) . Unzip the file and transfer LEDhead.exe and LEDhead.dll to your handheld. Start the former; select the game to run in the left list and click Start Game in the upper right corner. You can also disable sounds (using the Mute checkbox) and assign controls to hardware buttons.
Note that it also has an SH3 and a MIPS version, should you have an old PPC2k handheld.

MAME4droid Reloaded emulates arcade games supported by original MAME 0.134u4.
This MAME4droid version is targeted to Dual-Core devices (1GHz and 512MB RAM minimum), because it is based on a high specs 2009 PC MAME build.
Anyway don't expect arcade games of the 90 to work at full speed. With some games that are really bad optimized (like outrun or mk series) you will
need at least a 1.5 ghz dual-core device. This is related to MAME build used, since it is targeted to high specs PC's as i said before.
This version doesn't have an uml back end ARM dynamic recompiler, which means drivers based on high specs arcade CPUs won't be playable
(it has not sense since this games will be slow in any case).
Said that, with a low end device, use at your own risk. I suggest you use MAME4droid (0.37b5) instead.
Remember that games that can be emulated on both MAME4droid versions will run much faster on MAME4droid (0.37b5) than on MAME4droid Reloaded (0.134),
and will drain less battery.
This version emulates over 8000 different romsets.
Please, don't email me asking for a specific game to run.
Tips to help performance: use lower quality sound or switch it off. Disable stick and buttons animations and disable smooth scaling also.
After installing, place your MAME-titled zipped roms in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4droid/roms folder.
MAME4droid Reloaded uses only '0.134u4' romset.

Nox App Player 3.1 – The latest free Android Emulator with rich features

Nox App Player is an Android emulator first released in August 2015, and within half years’ time, it has updated several versions and advanced a lot compared to the original beta version. Some of its basic core features include:

Overall, 3.1 version has some superb new features and improved UI. Although the in-built Play Store sometimes give mis-judgement of app/game compatibility, but luckily we could still download the apk and drag it into Nox to install.

That said, it should not get excited too because the hardware of Chromebooks and Android tablets are certainly not at the height of the most intense games from a technical standpoint. Another important limitation of CrossOver is that it can only be used on Android devices that use an Intel processor, a big nut to crack since the Android tablet with this type of processors are not that common at the time.

[TOOL]Install & Run M.A.M.E on MEmu App Player

At time of this writing with more than 2.5 billion active users per month, Google's Android is the most widely used smartphone operating system in the world. So if you're a fan of retro style games then M.A.M.E ( an acromym for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator ) will be the right choice to play them on MEmu App Player, a well known Android emulator for Windows machines, too.
FYI: M.A.M.E is a free and open-source emulator designed to recreate the hardware of arcade game systems in software on modern personal computers and other platforms. The intention is to preserve gaming history by preventing vintage games from being lost or forgotten.
Today, because a stable Android port of M.A.M.E exists, I offer here a tool that programmatically installs M.A.M.E on a MEmu instance and allows you to run a pre-installed game.
M.A.M.E takes off 58 MB disk space of Android's partition /data - partition /system isn't affected - plus size of each ROM.
Pre-requisites:
A MEmu instance with
2 CPUs
4 GB RAM
OpenGL
set.
The low performance of some games is because M.A.M.E. is compatible with more than 8,000 different 'romsets'. In other words, there are still thousands of different games that will work perfectly on any MEmu instance.
Preparation:
1. Download the MEmu-Mame-1.13-43-universal-Installer.ZIP from here ( ~76MB ).
2. Unzip the archive to any location of your Windows machine

Adding ROMs:
In general, you will only get good results with a full set of ROMs. Incomplete ROM sets (i.e. smaller collections of individual ROMs) are unlikely to work well. This is because certain roms (known as child roms) are dependent on files in other ROMs (known as parent ROMs) for example Pacman is actually an American clone (child) of the original Japanese game Puckman (Parent). Without both files, most games will immediately exit.
There are a number of different rom set versions. Different versions contain different games (although there's plenty of overlap). A huge repository of M.A.M.E compatible ROMs here
Important:
The ROMs ( ZIP-files ) you intend to add to M.A.M.E always have to get stored in MEmu instance's Android folder
/storage/emulated/0/MAME4droid/roms.
