Battery charges very quickly!! - Honor View 10 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I've a strange phenomenon regarding my Honor V10 (European model). I'm using my original charger and I know from experience that it takes approximately 1h:25 min to charge my phone to 100%. Recently, I found out that my phone charges very quickly to 100% in like 50 min only or so. After disconnecting the charger, I notice that it stays at 100% for a bit long time, then it depletes very quickly an amount of like 10%-15% in a very short time and I'm not really doing anything on my phone (and I'm sure I don't have any misbehaving apps in the background), then battery depletes in a normal pace thereafter. Any idea about what's going on and how can i fix this siutation without fully resetting my phone?
P.S. I'm waiting for EMUI 10 in the next few days/weeks. Can the update fix that issue?

Probably the battery has gone kaput. Try clearing cache and finally a full factory reset, if the issue continues contact service center.

Try fix above from anu3682.... Otherwise change the battery

Slow charging

I have decided to move this post from the issues thread to a dedicated one to give it better visibility. If no one else is getting this problem then I will probably return the device.
I have the excellent "devstate" today plugin application installed which gives the battery charge level in 1% steps. When I say slow, it takes around 3 mins to increase by 1% which means it will take 4 hours for 80% charge (too long) when this is the case, the back doesn't heat up.
I have seen it charge much faster on one occasion i.e. around 1% a minute and the back was warming up (this is logical if more current is flowing) I was wondering the cause of the slow charge is that the device thinks it is connected to a pc and the charging current is limited. Also when you plug the cable sometimes the menu pops up asking whether you want to enter activesync/disk drive mode but doesn't on other occasions. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.
Another observation is that a soft reeboot occasionaly gives wildly varying battery levels for example before reboot the charge might be 100% and straight after the reboot 90%, or 83% before and 100% after. Interestingly before turning on the device for the first time I fully charged the battery, but up on boot up it was reporting 60%! (maybe it didn't charge at all when it was switched off and 60% was the initial amount of charge the battery came with) Have I got a duff battery or some issue with the device itself?
I seems like the battery charges fast up to 75% at around 1% a minute but then slows down to 1% every 3 to 4 minutes. Maybe this is the charging profile for this battery. Has anyone else noticed this?
Here are a couple of threads from the diamond section regarding the sort of issues I am experiencing but there doesn't seem to be a conclusive fix.

Could people please answer the following questions to help me decide whether I have a faulty device/battery or some ROM issue which all of us have. I have the stock UK touch pro ROM 1.90.405.1 WWE.
1) If you fully charged the battery before powering on for the first time, what was you battery charge level immediately after power on?
2) Have you noticed fluctuating charging rates?
3) Soft reboot gives different battery charge levels.
Just a quick Q, which charger are you using? Can you just post the amp / volt data printed onto it for us?
I am using the one that came with the touch pro, model no TC P300, its output rating is 5V at 1A. Input rating 100-240V
I have also tried the mda vario III charger and I get similar results i.e. fast charge up to 75% then slow afterwards.
As i stated in the other tread with the "Raphael issues" i have the same problem.
When i use the shiny new charger with the "usb-mini usb" cable i takes 7-8 hours to completely charge the device. (output is 5V-1A)
However, when i use my good old Hermes charger, or any other 5V-1A charger, it goes to 100% in about 3 hours.
Mine charges up to 90% from 10% in less than 3 hours after which it stays @ 90% (According to the built in battery meter of the device) forever. Is it a faulty battery or its supposed to be like that?

And do you get varying battery levels on soft reboot?
3 hours is probably what I would get i.e. "75% at 1% a minute = 75 mins" PLUS "25% at 1% every 4 mins = 100 mins" giving a total of 175 mins.
question is that is this behaviour normal for touch pro or only present on
some device/battery/chargers.
I also have another issue, this time regarding interference on speaker, see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419761
If only my touch pro has these faults then I want to replace it asap, especially when having paid £500 for it.

Yes i do get varying levels on reboot, but i got that with my Hermes and Magician too. So i wouldn't worry about it. Usually when you softreset while it's charging you get a higher battery reading then you should have, but it wil drop after some time to it's real level.

This happens when its not charging. I don't get this with the vario III. Maybe it is ROM dependant. The other concern was after having charged the device fully when switched off, it reported 60% on power up. I might let the battery drain to a low level then charge when switched off to see whether it charges at all. Some diamond owners were also reporting this.
Hmm, got the same thing tonight with my Hermes charger, has been charging for 6 hours and still not fully charged, now at about 80%. Very strange. Are there more people experiencing this?

This didn't appear to happen to me on the first charge, but I turned it on immediately after putting the battery and SIM in place, and then I charged (I don't remember what the initial battery charge was). I've not noticed such wildly inaccurate readings after reboot either. I haven't specifically checked for inaccuracy in the battery meter, but I would (probably) have noticed such a big difference.
Have you tried to do a full discharge and charge cycle? This is necessary after around every 30th charge to recalibrate the gauge so that it is as accurate as possible. I know yours probably haven't gone through 30 charges yet, but it may be worth trying.

This is normal for lithium-ion batteries. The last 20% or so can take as long as the first 80% to charge.

When charging I usually leave mine overnight, so I think I've only charged it once during the day, and then I think this was through USB while connected to the PC so it may have been a bit longer than 'normal' (3-4 hours) for that reason. I'll keep an eye at it next time I do it during the day.
Six hours plus sounds far too long though, do you have a chance of trying the battery in another device, or another battery in your device?

Nope, don't have a second Touch Pro around here, but this is really annoying, I need a fully charged battery in the morning. If this is hardware related i'd return it to get a replacement.
hmm, this is interesting.....so just to clarify we are seeing slower charging with the bundled adapter: which is essentially an AC to USB power transformer?? If the USB port on that (yes i know its power only) is capable of supplying only a standard ammount of juice then your battery may charge to 100% as slowly as from a pc or car charger..
..id like to perhaps see if i can meter the current and voltage coming from it but would need me to cobble together a breadboard with the relevent power points.
Is the hermes / kaiser charger charging it fully in less time?? (to clarify)

Yes I drained the battery till the phone switched off by itself but still have this problem. I suspect there is a problem either with the phone itself or the battery as supposed to a ROM issue. I thought all the clever charging circuit is in the battery these days and it's the battery which reports it's charge level to the device too. If this is true then probably the battery is faulty but I am not going to buy another one just to find out. I'll try to get a replacement for the touch pro tomorrow when the shops open.

It is, but even so the gauge (in the battery) needs recalibration once in a while, hence the full discharge/charge cycle every 30th charge or so (other than that it is recommended to charge li-ion batteries often, and not deplete them fully).
Your next port of call is probably to see if another battery makes a difference.

Today I charged my phone from empty to full while connected to the PC, which took around 3 hours 30 minutes (phone not used except to check charge levels towards the end).
the charging cycle on mine has been a little erratic too.
I put it on charge at 9pm last night, at 6.30 this morning it was at 88%. 9 hours and not fully charged!!...still, 3 hours later and it's on 87%. so I think its more a case of requiring a few charge/discharge cycels to settle the guage down a bit.
This night it fully charged in 5 hours. While yesterday it wasn't completely charged in over 8 hours. There doesn't seem to be a pattern in this.
Yesterday it was showing 48% battery level at one time, a soft reset later 28%, another soft reset and it was 24%. Today I have sent it back for a replacement. Can those people affected by this issue please state where they bought it from, in order to figure out whether it might be a faulty batch. I bought mine from clove technology in the UK.

Mine came from Expansys.be, please let us know your new unit has the same behaviour.
Will do if I get a replacement one, they have satisfy themselves that there is fault first. Will probably take around 3 days. I miss my touch pro already.....
Oh well back to the vario III for the time being, seems cumbersome already in comparison.

Whilst I don't have any exact figures to hand, my hermes charger took about 45 mins (Give or take a little.)
I've been using the standard Raphael charger today and charged from 50% and it's still going after 1 hour 20 mins and only at 90%
I know the final 80% takes a lot longer, but even so.....

Charging times, why so long?

Has anyone worked out why it takes so long to charge. I ran mine flat twice and both times it has taken about 10 hours to charge. To me this is not acceptable. Is it becasue of the charger or the hardware on the phone? Both times the device has been switched off so nothing has been draining whilst charging.

Software bug with the charging and battery management. Try doing a soft reset after 4 hours and it will say 100% You may also have noticed that the battery appears to drain sprarodically - ie can stay at a level for some time and then drop by 3 or 4% or more. Again i beleive a software battery management issue.
I agree...shouldn't be taking any longer than an hour (in the car, 40ish minutes in the house). I'd hard reset to see if it would fix the issue. Unfortunately, that is a very big issue to have!
i have the same problem... 6 hours of charging time takes it to only around 89%. can someone confirm that theirs take the normal hour or so? thanks!
try soft reset after an hour, it should work..
the problem is (maybe) with the battery management, where it thinks, it's still charging, but the battery is full charged..

so u mean it is a software glitch?
i really don't want to have to get up every night and soft reset after an hour or so charging!
well..if you charge during night, it's OK, you can sleep..;-)
but you're right..SW glitch..
I think this need to be reported to HTC, cause power management is a really very important part of the system...
Cheers
thanks Druby...i tried what u suggested.... TP was charging for 6~7 hours but still at 89% batt....soft reset, then charge again... reached 100% in 20 minutes!
am very surprised this problem is not faced by more ppl....!

I still hope, it'll be fixed in any future ROM..
..btw. did anyone write to HTC 'bout this..??

That's insane, I only checked once when someone asked me how long it took to charge, and 2 1/2 hours after it had died on me, it was fully charged again. From absolute zero, wouldn't even turn back on, to 100% full battery in that amount of time (probably much faster, but I didn't bother to check it until they asked). To have your device take 4x as long, there must be some sort of malfunction, that can't be right. I assume you mean charging from a wall outlet and not sync'd with a computer.
Like i said in a previous post, i believe its a software bug. In 6 weeks of use, this has only happened to me once, and was after a deep discharge. Also many people have noticed an erratic battery level indication - ie it can be stuck on 96% for a while and then jump down to 92%. Also many have noticed that doing a soft reset can give a different battery level. If it was a hardware fault, resetting the device and hence rebooting the software would not result in suddenly getting 100% charge.
Indeed... I have the pitchforks, someone grab the torches, we're forming an angry mob and marching up on HTC with it.

I have noticed this also, battery indicator works erratic way, and most probably is a driver fault more than a hardware malfunction...
Sometimes level increase 2-4% when softreset, sometimes increases 5-10% if chrging and softreset... but i beleave is a driver problem...
i sent an email to HTC about....
Cheers
My first TP set had problem where it could not fully charge. I notice that it gets really hot when using it even for a while. The vendor change another TP for me and the current one charge properly. After using it for 3 weeks, the battery performance also improved.
My Touch Pro need about 4-5 hours to bee fully charged
I use original charger from the box.
I still have this problem but the soft reset trick fixes it. Not good though. I have also sent a message to HTC.

Battery dead or bug in the battery display ?

For two weeks my phone (Mate 8 L29) is discharging quickly. Initially I thought it should be because of some applications and so I uninstall the main applications running in the background like facebook.
But that did not change anything. Yesterday I formatted my phone and switched from a B180 Ephemeral rom to the stock B560 (Ephemeral B180 -> Stock B180 -> Stock B560).
The battery was behaving rather well until it reached about 60%, at which time the charge literally collapsed. The battery has gone from 60% to 27% in a few minutes. Around the 30% I saw him lose 1% every 15 seconds! So I plugged in the phone and the ascent of the load was as fast as the fall between 30 to 60%. After 60% the battery seemed to recharge at a more normal rate.
Do you think it is the battery that is physically dead and I need to replace it or can it come from a bug in the battery display?
The phone is less than a year old, but I could not use the warranty since I installed a rom.
On the screenshot you can see the battery go from 60% to 30% then go up to 60%, all in just about 30mins and without using a greedy application like a video game.

It started about two weeks ago.
It happened several times to play with the phone connected. In general I expect it to be under 20% to recharge it, sometimes I charge it before if I know I have a long day without access to a power outlet.
I understand the questions very well, but it sounds quick. That a battery is so worn out in a little less than a year.
Im having the same issue and In going to replace the battery today, I'll tell you the results

Where did you go to change the battery, was it an official change? Did you lose your warranty? How much was it?
Thanks
Also how have you guys been charging your phones? Overnight? Fast charging overnight? Or slow charging overnight?
I changed the battery myself with a youtube tutorial, very easy:
https://youtu.be/b7f8fdYz5ig
I was charging my phone overnight wit fast charging. I know fast charging overnight is useless, but the official charger only do fast charging, so no choice.
I want to change my battery myself, like janrk, but first, just out of curiosity, im going to try the sellers warranty. I try to join Huawei, they just didnt answer.
A lot of chinese website sell "Official Mate 8 battery", but im not sure they are really official. I find 7 to 9€ battery on chinese web site, 12€ on Amazon (chinese seller), 25 to 35€ with european seller. That's only for the battery, i you didnt want to change the battery yourself its between 49 to 80€.
My battery cost me 13€, and is identical to the original battery
Where do you buy it ?
I contacted the after-sales service of Huwaei. They told me that it was necessary to cut the wifi and the mobile data when the phone is in charge. And that in general it was necessary to cut the wifi and the mobile data when one does not have the use of it. I deduce that they have poorly designed these elements of the phones, and that they cause it to overheat. This should reduce the battery life.
I asked them if it was possible to have a warranty. It is possible, but for this i must accept to send the phone to them for several weeks. Since I do not wish to have no phone for several weeks I will order a battery. Their after-sales service is really useless: /

stupid thingy ...
almost same thing happend on me and i had to replace battery to solve it.
it took only 10 month to kill damn built-in battery.
i can't belive it. its just 10 month.
i never see like this.
most cheapest battery (made in china) was worked over 24 month.
I just change the battery, is actually that fixes the problem. Now I'm not sure that the battery is necessarily bad at the base. I wonder if the design of the phone does not cause an overheating of the phone that is damaging the battery prematurely.

Change Mate 9 battery to a new one - 2 months later charging battery inconsistent?

I did a thread earlier whereby I installed a replacement battery in my Mate-9 as the original had started to swell. I did it myself.
Today I notice that the recharging of the battery has become inconsistent, although I have managed for 2 months or more already with replacement battery. Sometimes it charges normally from 3-100% in 90 minutes, other times it won't charge at all. Sometimes it charges faster when turned off, other times it won't charge turned off. A full charge runs as normal for me up to 2 days usage. I cannot determine any pattern as to when it will charge or not charge. It seemed to happen after a recent Huawei system update. I'm using build 9.1.0.252 on model MHA-L29.
** Would a factory reset help at all, or is changing the battery the cause of this does anyone think - or maybe something else I could do?
Thanks.
This seems to have been Huawei system related for me. The poor battery recharging happened after a Huawei system update. Now Huawei has updated my system again to 9.1.0.252 (C636E7R1P8patch04) and the recharging procedure is normal again.

Phone charging at 100% for around 15-30 minutes

Hello. I just noticed something weird on my TCL 10L phone. When the phone reaches 100%, it displays fully charged on my lockscreen. Though, unlocking the phone I see the phone is still charging. I see the battery bar being green with a charging bolt. It takes around 15-30 minutes until it says charged (and the bolt removed). Is this normal? I do not remember the phone doing this when I bought it around 5 months ago.
Changes in charging and especially sudden loss of capacity can indicate a battery failure.
Check for cover swelling/bulging, battery swelling is a failure, replace asap if so.
A failure this early is rare but Li's can fail at any time in their life.
Inspect jack and port for contamination. Use a known good charger and cable. Try cycling the battery until the phone shutdown then charge to 100%, repeat... to calibrate battery indicator.
Minimum start charging temp is 72F
Best start temperature is 82-90F
Never attempt to charge a Li below 40F
Keep battery temperature below about 101F when charging.
Do not use phone while charging as it will skew the charging curve.
Thanks for the reply. There is no battery loss. I can play games on this device, browse, and check apps and drain the battery in the same period I did since I got it. I actually charged it to 100% since went to sleep. 9 hours later the device was still at 100%. 1.5 hour of playing a game after that and the battery was down to 84%. The issue is really weird. I am thinking a battery calibration may help. I do not know.
P.S. I am currently using Android 10 and I do not want to switch to Android 11.
I wouldn't worry about it.
It's best not to charge to 100%.or below 30%.
Lu's like frequent midrange power cycling (40-65%).
As for 11, no way that crapware is getting on my phones....

Did you personally experience this on any device? This is the first time I saw something like this. According to some articles the phone may display wrong battery stats. So I was thinking calibration would be a solution to this issue.
