I charged my Urbane 2 for the first time in a while and I see I have Wear 2.34 meaning I must have done that Root method the last time I used it. What else can I do with a rooted watch? Any special apps? Can I use any wear ROM and are there recommendations?

Hello! I know this is only my second post here, but I've been lurking around since the original Motorola Droid came out. I'm not a newbie by any means lol.
Anyway, onto my problem... First and foremost, I am using a Google Nexus 7 rooted with DarkKat 4.4.4 and a brand new Gear 2 rooted with TizenMod 3.0.
I purchased a Gear 2 with the intention that I could pair it up with any non-Samsung Android device, with the assistance of a number of tutorials (one being backups for one another if the previous didn't work). I've tried every tutorial I could squeeze out of the Internet, but to no avail. I can get the latest version of Samsung Gear to install and run just fine, but no matter what I get stuck into a, "Connecting to Gear...," loop. I also have a Samsung account tied to my Nexus and was able to, at one point, get GALAXY Apps running. Yes, I went into the build.prop file and changed my brand and manufacturer to Samsung and model to GS-I9500 (also tried GS-I9195) and changed the app's permissions respectively. Also, just as an FYI, I am able to successfully pair my Gear 2 with the Samsung Gear app.
I've been diligently working at this, and only this, for 12-15 hours at a time for 4 days straight... I'm at my wits end with this thing. What really irks me is I can't set the date and time (on a friggin watch of all things), but good news is I found out how to at least sideload my custom widgets on it.
Anyone have some insight on this?
Bump.
Hi all,
Recently my unrooted Verizon S3 4.1.2 phone updated seemingly on it's own to 4.3 after I had been deferring the updates for over well over a year. Needless to say I was extremely pissed and ended up rooting my phone with Towelroot in order to regain some of the features I had lost in the update (auto toggling Airplane mode). One issue that I noticed right away and apparently can't be fixed even with root in 4.3 is that when the phone is set to vibrate (silent mode) EVERY notification will trigger a vibration. App level settings are ignored. Google added new ****ty notification code that ignored app level settings and forced global settings no matter what, only in silent mode though. This is pretty much the only thing I can't stand about 4.3. So naturally I looked into 4.4's notification system and sure enough this seems to have been fixed in 4.4.2 as I've tested it on my g/fs phone and I've reviewed the Android NotificationManagerService source code. So I was planning to unroot my phone and upgrade to 4.4.2 but I keep hearing people say how they wish they stayed with 4.3 or how much of a task it is to unroot. I'm a noob to rooting so I'm a little worried.
So my questions are.
1) Why is it not a good idea to upgrade to 4.4.2? I'm on Verizon so my bootloader is already locked forever .
2) If I was going to upgrade how would I go about unrooting my phone? I used Towelroot. Is there a simple one press unroot app ha ha?
3) If upgrading is a bad idea then does anyone know of any app that allows me to mess with notification vibrations. I want to go back to the old notification system were I can set the phone to vibrate but only have phone calls and text messages. Emails and everything else should just trigger the LED notification.
4) Will I even be able to root 4.4.2? I keep reading mixed answers on the forums.
Thanks in advanced!

Are you using supersu for your superuser app? If so it has a built in unroot option
As far as taking the OTA to 4.4.2 it's best to read around the forums for information on that. I personally am on an unlocked bootloader so I really can't comment on this too much
Some people have been successful on rooting the 4.4.2 update and some have not, I would say your results may vary
Unsure about the notification part

Yes, I used towelroot and then installed superSU. I did notice the unroot feature in superSU but wasn't sure if it would work since I rooted my phone using towelroot. Not sure if the process is different or not.
I've been reading a lot about 4.4.2 and it does seem like it's a 50/50 chance towelroot will work on it...which is why I made this thread. Some people are saying that it doesn't work if the update has a date after July 2013 and others are saying it still works. I was hoping someone could chime in with a backup process for rooting just in case Towelroot didn't work. I don't really like the odds right now so it looks like I'm sticking with 4.3 and the annoying notifications until a full proof method shows up.

I truly can't say I blame you. I wouldn't either unless it was full proof also

I’m looking at the galaxy s6 leaks and the phone sounds amazing. Take into account that I still have a droid charge and you see how excited I am to get this phone. Before I plunk down money I have to wait for it to be released. Between now and then, I need a few answers to some questions:
1. Root access – Will it be hard to root Android 5.0? I’m asking because I have all my apps and data backed up with titanium backup and want to be able to restore them to the new phone.
2. Flash – Ever since flash was officially dropped from the android realm, people have been supplying hacked versions that work with 4.X. Will this continue? I’m asking because the site I use to watch out of market football games still uses flash.
3. Keeping unlimited data – I have the unlimited data plan with Verizon and do not want to lose it. I was told by someone to buy the phone at full retail and I’d be able to keep it. I then read online about buying the phone through Best Buy and being able to backdoor keep my UDP. Someone then told me that Verizon could at any time switch me to tiered data if I do the BB backdoor thing. I’ve heard rumors that the phone will cost nearly a grand and I’m not to keen on paying that much, if I don’t have to.
What do y'all think?
Mike

There's root for android 5 but you can never know what Samsung will actually do to the S6, what my head says that it will probably be a way to root but that will trigger Knox....
Enjoy, Good Luck!
Btw I hate Verizon because they don't allow to unlock HTC bootloader.

What is Knox?
If I'm not initially able to root, how do I back up my apps and data to transfer them to the new phone?

Knox is a security measure that Samsung has put into their devices, it will also show up that your device was rooted (even if you'll reflash your stock rom)
You can back up your apps with google accounts but unfortunately you will lose your app data (like levels...)
data like pictures etc.. can be saved on a sd card, pc or there's some apps that will do that without root...
-It's almost midnight I might be slow!
So how do I get around Knox saying the phone is rooted. I'm asking because I once had to unroot my current phone to take it in for warranty replacement due to screen burn in. The joys of watching online video on an unlimited data plan
Also how do I transfer app data to my new phone without a program like titanium backup that requires root?

You can use Helium to backup your old phone. It does not require root, and you can backup all your apps and data.

Does knox mean that the phone can't be rooted? I have been using open garden tether with unlimited data plan and want to continue once I get S6.

No, you can root just fine.
In order to root Lollipop you must be able to unlock the bootloader. I don't think any of us know whether the S6 will have an unlockable bootloader or not. It may vary by carrier (here in the U.S.).
Assuming you can root the S6, be sure to make a nandroid backup before restore your apps and app data. The internals of 5.0 are VERY different than earlier versions, and restoring apps and data might (or might not) cause issues. In any case, be prepared to start over.
Reinstalling your apps from the Play Store is probably a safer approach.
hey
Any leakd photo of this phone yet?
How long will it be after the phone comes out till we know if it can be rooted?

How long will it be after you're born until you can learn xda etiquette and not to ask unknowable questions?
(unless you're a vocational philosopher in which case I retract any snark in the above q)
You can root a phone without tripping knox, you just cant install a Custom recovery

That's all only related with one thing - exploits. So, it all depends on how many and how good(bad) of exploits on S6 firmware. No one could tell you now because the product doesn't exist yet. Since the security on Android become stronger, you can imagine that the time required to root the phone without tap knox will just take a longer time(Sony Z3/Z3c took them almost 4 months last time to root without void warranty) and it also depends by the sales of S6 and the community size on XDA, famous phone will get support first because of more developers.
You can use Dolphin broswer, it runs with owned ver of flash player, it built-in flash support so you don't need flash installed on system level.
Here's how. You'll need to pull the apk's for gear manager, gear plugin, and Samsung accessory service. Install all 3.
When I initially did this, the app would launch but couldn't connect to the phone. This morning Samsung pushed an update to gear manager (somehow even though it still shows as not compatible with the 5x), and suddenly it all works.
Enjoy.
Where to get all those ? From G-play ?

I think now you can get all three from g play. I used an apk downloader to get them.
Just a note, you'll need another compatible phone that isn't encrypted to use to update the firmware of your gear s2. Without the firmware update, you regularly have to reset and repair the watch to the phone regularly. So first connect the watch to a different phone, update the firmware, then reset it and connect it to the 5x. Kind of a pain, but I do have it working 100% on my 5x now.

Can you see the paid apps in the gear apps store?

To make a long story short:
I'm a diabetic and used to use my old phones (Note 3, Galaxy s6) to read my glucose level with an app called LibreLink. This made being a diabetic so much easier - no need to carry an extra reader with me all the time.
Appearently Samsung S8 and S8+ (and S7) worked fine with the Libre sensors at first - but an OTA update changed *something* and suddenly S7/S8/S8+ no longer worked. And they still don't. Some users have reverted back to an older official firmware to get the sensor readings back, but I'd rather stay on a newer fw because of.. well, deodex, debloat, tweaks... (Currently using Batman rom 1.0 and loving it).
Do we have any developers here that could check if it would be possible to replace/revert the new NFC-files/settings with the ones from the oldest 955F firmware? I really wouldn't know where to start with this...

I noticed that you used your LibreLink. My son is a T1 Diabetic, and we REALLY would like to use the LibreLink, however here in the USA it will not allow me to download the program. Do you or anyone else know how to get this program? PLEASE help.

I'm not sure if it's the current version, as my phone isn't officially supported.. But it works great
Thank you! So I downloaded it and it installed fine. However, when I tried to open it it tells me to download it from Google Play. Must be some sort of security. So anyhow something is blocking it... Any thoughts?
