Long story short, My Cappy won't get satellite lock AT all. I called ATT tech support. They had the gall to blame Google Maps. I said I want a new phone please. They said go to a retail store and get the phone tested and we'll see what we can do. I then called Amazon's support.
My new Cappy will be here Wed.
And now your probably going to get another cappy with no gps again! Lol jk dude, good luck. I'm starting to wonder about mine. The only timer my gps worked somewhat, was on jh3, I'm on jh7 now and can't even get accuracy past 100 meters in maps. Weird.... Starting to piss me off a little

Amazon has always provided great service for me. I order through them without hesitation.
My GPS won't get closer than 1600 meters. The lady at amazon said she's fully aware of the problem, suspected a bad shipment. She also said if this one has the same problem I could port my number back to Sprint. I hope it doesn't come to that.
why would you be glad to order through amazon??? Buy in store, pay a little more yes, but you get a new phone basically no questions asked immediately. I exchanged 3 times and didnt have to wait 3 days and the guys never doubted my reasons for a second. That is worth the extra money to me
I got the run around from ATT tech support. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with them. They wouldn't own up to the possibility the GPS was bad in my phone. Time on the phone with Amazon, about 5 minutes.
that is your own fault for trying to call tech! We all know they are terrible. Calling them is much different than walking in the store and talking to someone and getting the phone immediately. at least you are getting a new phone though

Tech support denies the problem, so does the corporate store, they claim they haven't heard about a gps issue, lol, seriously! They will replace it on the spot at the store without question, they don't even look at it, I doubt the know what SU is or root. I swapped out 2 and I am on 3rd. I have the new one for a week now, gps is ok, dosen't lock at all or see satellites inside, who cares, I know where the bathroom is. I have used it while driving and it worked. Anyhow, I have 3 weeks left to swap this one out if I run into any problems. I am sticking with this phone, it's the best one AT&T has and I am stuck with them. Good luck man, I hope your next one works.
Your first phone was probably just like all Galaxy S phones they all have a non working GPS. It's not just a batch of phones. I think the problem is software related. They need to hurry up with a fix because people are getting irritated that a ton of apps rely on GPS and this phone does not have a working GPS like it's supposed to. I'll bet you get another non working GPS phone.

Agreed. Not sure why anyone is allowing returns for GPS related issues.

Yeah calling Tech is about the slowest way to get a new handset, or a good answer. I took mine back to the store because the 1.2oc would crash the handset. Told em it wasn't working right and I wanted an exchange, walked out 10 minutes later with a new one. Faster than Amazon.
Regardless, you bought the phone from Amazon. AT&T does not cover the warranty. After the 30 days, you will have to deal directly with Samsung (unless you get lucky and an AT&T rep sets up a replacement regardless of you buying elsewhere).
In terms of warranty/replacement, AT&T support is usually great. However, if you didn't purchase through them, they will probably give you the run around.
Just out of curiosity can your amazon phone boot into recovery?
I´m about to purchase one from amazon and wondered if they still have the "old"captivates.
Can you do this please:
go to the phone keypad, dial *#*#197328640#*#* from there it will pull the service menu, go to Version Info, SW Version, READ ALL SW VERSION, and post the info.

Every single Galaxy S including the new one Amazon is sending you will have the GPS problem. Every Captivate, Every Vibrant, Every Galaxy S on Every Continant has the problem. Just pray your new phone doesn't have a different problem, because the GPS issue is on ALL Galaxy S phones
But I bet you are going to prove us wrong and tell us your new replacement has a perfectly working GPS
I want to order a phone on Amazon, but I'm worried about the shut down issue.
This is good news that they were so accommodating. Makes me want to go place my order as we speak honestly.
I read on Android Forum the problem with our GPS is an almanac and driver issue. After reading that and not getting a lock I figured if I clean out the phone's cache and do a hard reboot I might get a lock. I did just that and I now get a lock in five secs or less. That GPS almanac has to be cleaned each time before a new trip or it reverts to some type of loop of old info and won't process new input. In other words it won't clean out. That is a faulty driver. The fix should be easy to implement. Anways, my GPS works with this action and keeps the lock throughout the trip now. It never did before.
EDIT I get three meter accuracy too.

I get that, but my problem seems different, to me anyway. In a 4 acre open field on a bright sunny day, the GPS would not lock AT ALL when I turn of wireless and rely on GPS hardware only. When turning on Wireless, the best it would do was 1600 meters.
I was about to return my phone to AT&T until I downloaded the new beta firmware. GPS is dramatically improved. I thought it was hardware, but I stand corrected. I'm getting full GPS lock within seconds now.
i thought u can only do one swap at at&t? after that they wont allow you... is that right? ive been reading and ppl have swapped out 3 already! how is that so? if thats the case i hope when i get my captivate i can do the same
hello,
i just bought my nexus 10 days back

another thing
my friend told me its safer to charge from USB then Charger
is it true? he said its something to do with voltage
he said its best to charge phone when its on its lowest 10% or 20%
which is better ? to use ? and when
i was playing around and i opened the Developers options
and its still there can i Hide it ? it still shows there all the time :/ just worried about warranty issues
and my last question
is there any software which i can use to keep my phone actually safe ?
if its stolen or if i lose it anyway i can recover it ?
some software?
well thats all for now
please help me out thanks
Stop paying attention to RAM as the phone keeps a bunch of stuff in RAM if it thinks you will need it again even if it's not running. Those are cached services.
Your friend is a retard (no offence to handicapped people, some of you are super smart compared)
There is no easy way to turn it back off, there is no warranty issues with it as you'd format your phone anyways before sending it back to Google. In the event you can't, it doesn't matter since Nexus devices ARE developer phones.
Android has that built in to locate a lost phone. Recovering it is a whole nother story. It also means jack if the phone is wiped anyways so doesn't matter. Insurance is the word you are looking for my friend.

HI there-
New to the world of XDA
I have a Sony Xplay R800X phone. For a while it worked great- then one day it would not turn on. I have tried every hard reset under the sun. I got the phone with a Verizon plan... but all i really want to do is play nintendo, game boy, super nintendo, sega genesis, you get the idea. I put "nroms" on my current phone- but the touch controls really dont do justice for these games. All i want is the wireless functions and video games. I am not interested in using it as an actual telephone at this time. Unlee that is easily done. I am currently using a Pay as you go phone that is on the verizon network. Please someone out there help me. I know these phones go for $100 or less... but if someone out there can make this gaming phone work i woould appreciate.
Phone has had the battery replaced recently, but may not be charging. Suspect a bad connection on the plug- I just dont trust phone stores. I want to pay someone here to fix it. I will pay very well for my device operating again
If you cant turn it on how did you hard reset ?
Hi all,
Around 6 months ago I sold a Samsung Galaxy S3 on eBay. Before I sold the phone I did a factory reset and thought that would be fine.
However, I am getting map notifications from the old phone. From Bangkok Thailand! I have removed the phone from my devices in the Play Store and done everything else I could think of but it is still happening and its very annoying
Obviously the new user probably doesnt realise and they dont have access to paid apps in the store as they dont have my password - basically I find it very irritating and would like to know how to stop it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Mark
I have an SM-P905V that is on 5.1.1 and I have recently left Verizon.
Is there any way to update and root yet? From what I have read this has not been possible for a long while.
I am now on Project Fi and the tablet works save for a persistent nag in the notification shade that says it is not a Verizon SIM. The notification can not be turned off as it is a system app.
Plus I want to get rid of the Verizon crap software completely, as well as update the OS.
Verizon is passing the buck on unlocking the bootloader for me. Spent 2hrs on the phone one day when they passed me to Samsung who were no help of course.
Finally went to the local V store and demanded to speak to the district supervisor. Went through the situation and got him working through his technical hierarchy. Well that crapped out.
I paid damn near $800 for this tablet. It was not supplemented. I am not on V any more. And I cannot update it!
My next step is sending a demand letter giving them time to rectify the situation within 10 days or I am going to sue them in small claims for the cost of the tablet.
I am also drafting a letter to EFF.org. This might be a fight they are willing to look into. Maybe not.
This is akin to me buying a PC from Dell with windows 8.1 and then Dell locking it so I can't put Windows 10 on it when it comes out. I couldn't even put Ubuntu on it!!!!
Just curious if there is anything I can do through these boards before to wipe the tablet I go through the effort of suing. And I am not optimistic on that but who knows how things work out sometimes.
I would fully expect V to try to bump it up to Superior court.
All of this crap is absolutely unnecessary and they are causing every bit of it.
Just got a used SM-P905V purchased on eBay and use Package Disabler Pro and PDP Engine V2 to disable many Samsung services, not sure where I should look for the SIM card notification (I still get that on mine).
