I know there are some topics like this but they were not clear for me.
Sinds already a really long time i have serious draining problems.
when i look at my battery usage, i see android OS just as high as the consumption of my screen.
I changed to every (ICS) ROM you can imagine, but the problem always comes back.
Is it normall that android OS is using between 20-50% ?
Does everyone have this problem?
Better battery stats says: audio out_3 and alarm manager is causing it.
But i can't really remove them can I?
I noticed the back of my phone is always warm, it just doesn't cool down.
I think one of my apps is causing this drain, but I really don't know how to find it.
Do you have any suggestions?

You could try a slimmed down version if something like AOSP then see without installing any apps if the problem still occurs.
As for heat mine is always warn too even undervolted and underclockdd to 972mhz it can get warm.

when I still had my MT4G, someone found out that if you delete "Google Backup Transport" that the Android OS would go back to normal along with battery life. Im not sure about the Sensation, but make a backup of the file and try deleting it to see if it helps
AOSP had the same problem, but it could be slightly better.

i have the same problem with AOSP based roms, i normally get around 7-9 hours from a AOSP rom (even tho i have an extended battery) but im currently using rdejager's miui sense rom (undervolted by -100) and im can normally get around 24-30hours from one charge
I flashed Cyanogenmod (opensensation) and i'm really happy with it. I also formatted sd card. Android OS is working normall for now, but it might come back (usualy does :S)
Also i'm buying an anker battery, so i hope the problem is solved!
Otherwise JB must solve it right?
audio out_3 ? you can uncheck Key tone,or download One Power Guard or It will give you some optimization tips.

Try Installing soju factory image from google. I did a clean install wiping dalvic chache as well and my battery is awsome since then and I never disable google now. See in the attached screenshot how flat battery consumption curve when I am not using it.

I did the samething after getting terrible battery life due to an AudioOut_2 wakelock that never let my phone idle, and the same thing still happens. I'm wondering if a hardware malfunction could cause screwy behavior like this.
Just do "proper clean install", it should help.
Agree with clean install. ROM and kernel choice have a lot to do with battery drain also.
Was this a one time thing or the norm for your phone? If a one time thing wouldn't worry too much but would still shop for ROMs and do a clean install.
I have started using Juice Defender and LUX and my battery life has increased exponentially its features should help any ROM kernel combo.

i had a problem with android os sucking the life out of my battery, all was ok for about a week after i installed jb but then my battery life sucked. rather than do a clean instal i turned off auto sync for a couple of days then switched it back on again, since then my battery life has been good and android os has hardly used up any battery. might be worth while trying this first
Yeah. Full wipe is a last resort. At least if you figure out what actually caused it, you can prevent it from happening. I remember my Nexus S had this weird bug where if I put the phone in air plan mode and didn't disable auto sync, the phone would never properly sleep. Never had that issue on any other phone.
Its sometimes ROM related....codename ROM I get high android is but not with androxide

You have network disabled... Off course it does not drain!
I cannot tell much about your device setup since not all the details were given, But even my Sprint Nexus S 4G had horrible battery issues. The stock gingerbread was a joke, then the stock ICS did improve to do a couple more hours. Now running an rooted JB and it seems to do 1day and 3 hours at this time.

i am using international nexus s superamoled version and my model number is i9010T so i cannot install soju i have to install sojua and i m on jelly bean right now

Turning off Google now is what fixed the battery drain for me. Tried other things but only this worked.
I don't know if this is common but no matter what rom I flash I get horrible battery life. I always do a clean wipe, full wipe whatever you want to call it, phone lasts maybe 6 hours of usage. Also device sometimes gets very hot, rooted use twrp 2.8.5.0 and am on the latest firmware any ideas? When I use the stock rom battery seems fine. Thanks.

Something is likely holding your phone awake for long periods of time. Impossible to know with the lack of information you've provided. Check out this thread here (It's in the Nexus 5 forums, but it's relevant for all phones) on how and what to post to analyze your battery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/battery-life-help-troubleshoot-battery-t2785128
Impossible help without knowing what your running, ROM, apps, settings , etc. Start off by installing wakeloc detector and go from there.

I've been on the Android P Beta for a while.
However, starting with the final beta that was released (and now on the final version of pie) I've been experiencing really quick battery drain.
Tried a total wipe and restore, and the same thing. My wife (also the pixel) isn't having those issues at all.
Thoughts?

Yes, I had great battery life. Then once Android Pie was released, jumped on the beta to get 9 sooner. Then got the upgrade from beta to final and battery life is horrible. I did not factory reset, I have battery saver on and it doesn'tseem to matter. If I leave on standby, no issues. If I use the phone, it can bleed as much as 10% per hour! Unacceptable. I may try factory resetting, but idk...

I also have a pixel, Android 9.0/Pie (bought it brand new three days ago) and think battery is draining very (!) quick.
Yesterday I had roughly 2.5 SOT (with battery saver enabled) and this seems consistent with what I can expect typically. I did factory reset and have tried restricting "background activity" for my frequent apps - seems to make no difference. Obviously it had not time to do full battery optimization yet I guess, but I doubt it would mean a that big difference?
Saw a thread where someone mentioned it seems CPU-freq is high/inc. very rapidly when just tapping the screen (GPU-0%), and I can agree with that although I have not the prev. experience of what to expect.
My previous experience is with Xiaomi mi6/mi5 (lineage 15.1), similar usage would give 2x or 3x SOT (however with some other hw-issues.. ).

I don't think it would make a difference. The user data is on a different partition.
You could try flashing the image again, without Magisk or any other additions.

I noticed the app Device Health Services, was constantly active in the background.
I had the same like the OP: everything was fine until the last beta came, and battery is draining faster, phone gets hot from even the smallest usage even in the prod release of android pie.
I was thinking it has something to do with being about 36 degrees (summer time....), but it is the same even in cooler temperature rooms. It's like if the phone is constantly doing something in the background, but only if I use it.
It has been a few days since I upgraded my Pixel 2. Battery life is noticably worse, maybe 20-30% more battery drain in a day than what I saw in Oreo.
I notice the issue as well. I did factory reset after update it's been a week. I was on beta and started noticing battery issues in the first beta and throughout. I decided to install Accubattery to track my battery usage and ended up with a result.
My phone states the battery is in good condition but this app says otherwise. I guess it's time to change the battery along with cracked screen!
i'm curious if my battery is shot as well... Seems like after I purchased my used Pixel.. the battery is not as lasting as I hoped for the smaller pixel phone... I may try one of those battery testing apps to see if it will tell me its current health..
I normally welcome up updates, but this update screwed up my battery life so bad. I mean everything was perfect until the update. Now the battery drains so fast I can watch the percentage count down like a timer and now when the battery gets anywhere from 15-40% the phone will just shut down.
I would like to go back to oreo, but it's such a pain in the ass having to back everything up and flash a ROM considering I haven't done that since before I bought the pixel

Wow, that is not normal. Stock android 9 with root and elemental kernel.... I go back to android 8.1.0 and wait for feature releases
I think I found an Draining App/Setting
I disable the RCS Service on my Phone. It can be found under Messages >> 3 dot Menu >> Settings >> broadcast News. Disable it.
And then Bluetooth and WiFi scan disable.
Same here, crazy idle drain after pie, only 50% deep sleep, tried factory reset and no luck
Try BetterBatteryStats. People in that thread spend their free time analyzing logs to tell you what's eating up all your battery life.

In last few days I noticed battery drain. And as well I think it started same time I noticed screen flickering when in battery settings. Video explaining attached. As you can see its fine until I get deeper into settings then "system operacyjny Android" starts flashing slightly and screen flickers and it's laggy. It stops and then starts again Anyone else has similar problem?
XDA allows 200+MB attachments?
It'd be easier to describe (in English?) the settings path you took.

Hi mate, I do have the same problem with the battery settings view. But no solution so far.
Looks like a small glitch then. What app can you suggest to have a proper look into battery usage? Like idle etc with details. Something is draining my battery. I have accu battery now but I don't see any details there

I've rooted all android phone since I bought my pixel 7 pro a few days ago. Don't want to root again because of magisk hide etc. But there a a few things, like the battery section or the missing nfc quick tile, that makes me to want to flash a custom Rom. But so far I stay strong and keep the stock Rom.

Perhaps a full device wipe is needed.
If I continually update and re-root my phone each month without the "wipe' parameter, I eventually run into some not-super-noticeable OS issues. But, of course, once that occurs I just make a Google Drive backup and re-image my phone with the same factory image. However, I just leave the wipe parameter in the flash-all batch file when I do this and any OS or root problems seem to be resolved after doing so.

You don't need to re-root with every release. Just use Pixel Flasher.

If I remember correctly, Pixel Flasher is re-rooting after full system images are flashed. Or perhaps it updates over the OTA method? Regardless, I have never used it as I have never needed to, haha =P. Re-rooting only takes me a a few seconds =)

So, it is re-rooting after the updated system image is flashed, haha =D.
Just for clarification, rooting a Pixel is done in the act of patching the stock init_boot.img and then flashing it. When the system is updated, the entire factory image is flashed, and thus, the previously patched init_boot.img is replaced with a stock, unpatched init_boot.img. At this point in time, the phone is no longer rooted. But that is why users like us re-root our phones afterwards =). The Pixel Flasher is just incorporating that re-rooting process into its convenient, ease-of-use application experience - which is a very good thing to provide an option for.

Nope, it patches and flashes the image automatically itself.
battery drain on a smartphone can be caused by various factors, including:

The thing is that that drain started on Friday I think. Didn't install any new apps etc. I have around 30% phone iddle - is that normal?

Ehhh when idle apps are still running in the background checking for stuff etc... It'd be better if you used some other battery analyzer like GSAM for more details.
Ok so looks it's back to previous battery performance after yesterday's update. Definitely flickering problem is fixed and that's my today's battery result. And the phone idle seems gone down from 25-30 to 15%

Since then my battery drains a lot faster then before. I have a loss of 30% during a night without doing anything within these 7 hours. Before the update it had around 6-8% less in the morning. And it drains a lot fast during the day too. I have 100% after charge in the morning, go to work and when I come back it is down to ~30%. Last week it was on ~60% or more when I came home.
No new apps, nothing changed except the update.
This is really annoying me!
Don't want to wipe the hole phone as I don't use any Cloud on my ohones and would have to backup via MyPhoneExplorer and set up all by hand again.
Or is there any backup solution to backup everything on a phone all at once without root?
Oh and my Idle has around 30% battery usage, before the update it was on maybe 10% during a day.

I've been through this. For no reason, it's an insane battery drain. I ended up wiping and reflashing the newest firmware, staying on Stock Kernel and restoring my Swift backup - user apps/data only - and only logged into the apps I actually use and it got better. Not perfect, but better. After I week I reflashed the Kira Kernel and it's been back to pretty stellar again, like you said, only dropping a few percentage points at night
