is there some way to customize the bootlogo whithout twrp?
There are boot animation change apps that only need root. I have not used any recently, like in 2 or 3 years so I can't recommend any or know of any reliable working ones.
Changing the bootanimation is incredibly hit or miss these days as Magisk removed it's simple_mount function and it's impossible to directly modify files in the system partitions on logical partitioned devices.

hi i have ICS RC7.4 installed with a VKL1 modem flash to be used on tmobile.
my problem is that the google voice recognition keeps showing me the tutorial/welcome screen instead of going directly to the voice input screen which means i have to press the microphone button before i can talk ..ohh how frustrating. i checked the settings but there is no option do disable the welcome screen. interestingly enough this behavior seems random sometimes the tutorial screen comes up sometimes it just works like it should.
Is anyone else experiences this or knows how to fix ?
thx - phil
If you are running a ROM then you should ask your dev to include GV as sys apk
Or drag the Google voice apk to the system folder before you flash it and not bother the dev with something you can do yourself.

thx for the replies.
is there a way todo this without flashing? or can i just "re flash" my ICS over the current one with the apk in the system folder without loosing any settings/data.
litte noobish here sorry....i made the swap from iphone to droid like 4 days ago. so far i have a custom rom, flashed modem, rooted and unlocked.... its a steep learning curve and im loving it!
There's a way to do it without wiping but it's complicated and youbhave to fix permission and stuff. I think if your custom rom has a no wipe update you could put it in that one and flash that way. Always backup before modifying.

or you could just copy and past the file from your /data/app folder to /system/app fix permissions and reboot. (you might get fcs as you do this if so reboot then fix permissions and reboot again)
Is there a way to remove these now that we have root... well remove the sound and install a customer bootloader??
At the very least, remove the sound lol
Bump

Yeah, it's quite easy with any of the various root file manager apps. Just navigate to /system/customize/resource/ and rename (or delete) "ATT_bootanimation.zip" and "ATTSonicLogoNoSnap_Retail.mp3" to get rid of either/both the AT&T boot animation and the sound.
First thing I looked for with Root Explorer after gaining root access
Perfect
Works like a charm. Gives me a small silver android animation.
I got Cyanogen Mod 10 but Chainfire3D doesn't support it. How can i boot multiple roms on my device?(Bootmanager isn't supported but i haven't tried it yet)
Tab: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0(GT-P3100)
Regarding chainfire3d all i read in this forum use device spoofer app or manually change buildprop file using root file manager as root explorer app but make a nandroid backup first !!!
by this way they change screen dpi setting to allow for games not intended for our device dpi to work
As i know chainfire said in Twitter that he will not update chainfire 3d anymore
Regarding multiple boot i did not read anything in forums about this may be in the future by app like lolliboot from hellcat or kernel as sayih kernel that allow multiple boot do not try these at tab not supported yet for s2 only may brick tab

You could make a nandroid backup of your existing ROM, then flash a new one. Not the best method for it i agree , but its a workaround for testing out new a ROM. Simply boot into recovery and "restore" the original ROM when needed.
I have tried it and it works but as i said its not the best way to do things. Id love to dual boot on my Tab
I hope that xda community can help people like me, who prefer to stay with stock ROM for any reason, but was able to root the device. There are only a few things that I can think of right now is:
- [SAFE] Change gps.conf to improve GPS
- [SAFE] Change hosts to block ads
- [WARN] Delete bloatware
What else can I do to make this device better without having to unlock bootloader?
TIA
You can use Browser2RAM if I'm not mistaken

In short, you should be able to alter any file on the system that doesn't require a bootloader flash, like recovery or kernel I think.

Titanium Backup. How about scripts to maintain your application? The xda app cache can grow quite large just as any app's cache can. Does it impact the app? Depending on the device it can be invisible or it can lag your device. Rooted, I have scripts running nightly that delete the cache files so I don't have to. And yes - the difference is readily apparent.

Doubtful on that because altering the wrong files while its running could render it unresponsive. I was thinking more like changing default props files for tweaking, hosts for ad removal, and adding busy box files. I guess my first answer was too broad, sorry.

- [Safe] Read full logcat and /proc/last_kmsg (useful for developers, or users who wants to help developer know what went wrong or why a particular app crashed)
- [Safe] Cheat on games
- [RISKY] Change boot animation
- [RISKY] Disable apps that autostarts on boot.
- [RISKY] Tweak CPU Governor, I/O scheduler, SD card read cache, sysfs, Android internal memory manager & task killer, Dalvik heap size, WiFi and Tegra 3 parameters. I would recommend using Android Tuner app for tweaking.
Don't know about other people, but, I had bad experiences with Pimp My Rom (Beta).
Using motochopper method, I got mine Root but Unlock stock JB.
I just used System Tuner (free version of Android Tuner) to disable some apps at boot time and it works.
When I am abroad without Wifi, I use GPS Time to set the clock.
Titanium Backup Root to backup apps and system because for some reason the ASUS stock App Backup doesn't work right anymore
(for around 90 apps, always having 3,4 apps failed).
DE maxx here with root and system rw access.
No matter how many times i delete/uninstall these two apps, they always come back. freezing works just fine. Any reason why I would be able to make any other system mod and have it stick, but i would be unable to completely remove these two?
They're in read only memory and aren't really deleted? Did you boot into r/w mode when you deleted them?
I had a hard time changing the extension on the boot sound file and it kept coming back as you described.

Yes i was in R/W mode. I thought the same thing and tried it several times when booting to recovery & r/w mode. Its strange cause other system apps/files could be modified/uninstalled and it would stick... it was only these two
That weird I had no problems removing them from my non Dev ed

I found them eventually... somehow they got copied elsewhere, which was causing issues removing... once i killed them from the secondary spot TB uninstalled flawlessly
