Is there a way to remove these now that we have root... well remove the sound and install a customer bootloader??
At the very least, remove the sound lol

Yeah, it's quite easy with any of the various root file manager apps. Just navigate to /system/customize/resource/ and rename (or delete) "ATT_bootanimation.zip" and "ATTSonicLogoNoSnap_Retail.mp3" to get rid of either/both the AT&T boot animation and the sound.
First thing I looked for with Root Explorer after gaining root access
Perfect
Works like a charm. Gives me a small silver android animation.

Can someone make an app to do this. It would be nice to have some kind of repository where developers can upload their boot animations and we could install. It would be good if it could detect the current rom I'm using. If gladly pay for the app. I'm using CM6 and can't change my boot animation. I'm trying to install through recovery and it succeeds but never applies.

You can flash them through ROM Manager. Just put them in their own folder and name them appropriately.
Just a thought...you might not be able to flash them cuz they're not flashable zips.
Either way.
Im running Cm6 and just to start off--audio doesn't work on this rom.
I currently use root explorer to load my boot animations. Its in the market for £2.50 but worth it if you want to change things on the fly.
When using root explorer just download the zip rename it to bootanimation.zip then move it to system/media(mount r/w) and rename the curent one there to bootanimation.bak(mount r/o) then just reboot and viola

Yeah, it's an easy enough process. But, I'm sure it would be a popular app for newbs. Especially if it's run like Rom Manager where devs can put up their stuff..
I'd gladly pay for it. It has nothing to do with being a noob but more for the convenience. If that was the case then you might as well say ROM Manager is for noobs. I think it would be nice and a good way for a dev to make some money.

I can positively say everything about this post is incorrect about root explorer. It's nothing like rom manager
Just my two cents but there are a few flashable boot animations out there but what I would also really like to see is a way to easily install new splash screens. I've only been able to find one that was signed and flashable and it the reverse white on black which calkulin has in his rom thread. I would gladly pay 5$ for an app that could do both splash and boot animations.
XDA should open a special paypal account for bounties. I'd give $20 if someone can pull it off and pay $5 for the app. It could be based on the 1 click root app concept.
You choose ROM, software version, app validates, choose splash screen or animation. The preview could open youtube and show you a vid.
Any dev wiling to take on task?

So how exactly do I flash a boot animation if I don't use the root explorer from the market?...
Absolute system root tools and boot animation changer pro may help u both are in market but honestly it is so easy to do it manually using root explorer I don't see a need for an app

i have a huawei ascend (metropcs) and i accidentally deleted youtube off my phone (currently using z4root, titanium backup and thinkfree office lite). i tried restoring to the factory settings and it didnt work. is there anyway i can reinstall it back on my phone?
Download it from the market...?

tried that, downloaded from the appstore, applanet and 4shared and it doesnt work. it was preloaded onto the phone and i had to use z4root to take it off, did it by mistake though.
Will it not install or just not run? Take the downloaded file and using Root Explorer (if you don't want to pay I think Super Manager allows for root changes) place it in /system/app. Set the permissions (in Root Explorer this is done by long-pressing the apk and choosing permissions from the list) to rw-r--r-- and reboot. You have to mount as r/w first. After a reboot the app should be there.

thanks it worked like a charm. maybe now my kids will stop bugging. you are a life saver.
Heh, no problem :]
EVO 4G
Installed z4root and I am rooted
Installed titanium backup pro.
remove app with titanium and it confirms and shows a line through them
app remains on main app folder and wont delete.
Also used root explorer and removed the APK file but app remains on main app folder and wont delete.
any ideas??
Thanks!
To my knowledge z4root only does a temporary root on HTC devices(unless there's been an update I haven't seen). To remove an app permanently with titanium you need to long press and select force remove by recovery exploit (something along those lines). Just make ABSOLUTELY SURE it is safe to remove and you don't want it back. Once its gone its gone. But I could be wrong with this, just my experience using z4root on the Droid Inc. I believe other HTC devices are the same.

it says its deleting the file and it even has a line through it but it remains
If you do it the way I said above, your phone will reboot to remove the app. After that it will be completely gone, it won't even be in the list anymore. That's why I said to make sure you want it gone and that it is safe to remove.
Edit: the reason the app remains I believe, is that the HTC phones are a nand locked device. I'm not sure what all that means exactly but without a nand unlock this is the only way I have been able to remove apps from HTC's.
Read up on unrevoked, that will unlock the nand on your phone allowing you to write to /system mount. With nand locked you cannot write superuser to system/bin. I think the link is www.unrevoked.com <-- not sure if that's correct but you can google for it if its not. Hope this helps

Hi guys two quick noobish questions
I'm on super aosp but I like the original boot animation better. How can I change that?
Also everytime i restart the phone,in cpu settings, the governor is reset to ondemand. how do I make it stay on smartass. I'm using netarchy 's kernel btw
Thanks in advance

The bootanimation can be replaced simply by pushing your desired bootanimation to system/media folder. If you're using root explorer, you can simply navigate there and you should see a bootanimation.zip. Replace that with your desired one.
As for the cpu settings, I believe you just have to check the box that says "set cpu on boot". That should do it.
Thanks for the CPU setting, somehow it didn't work last time. Oh well.
Regarding the boot animation, can I do it without root explorer? But it probably involve adb right? Or use the terminal

Root Explorer, ASTRO, Whatever you like. There are 10+ ways of doing this.
Easiest is to use a file manager such as Root Explorer, ASTRO, etc.
how can i have no sound for boot animation. really annoys me.
my phones is samsung galaxy s captivate i897 rooted running cyanogen mod and miui.
i read if i go to system>media
i can delete the file or change its extension.
but i cant seem to find a media option anywhere.
the only way i can access boot sound is if i go to change ringtone and select it, but no where else can i seem to access it in order to delete it.
