I would like to require the power button to be pressed for something like 2 seconds-- in order to power on from the standby mode. I find it annoying to flick the power button when placing the phone in a pocket or the like, and have it power up.
Does anyone know if there is a registry setting or app that might accomplish this?
Currently I have my Android phone setup to use a numeric pin to lock the device. Unfortunately this means everytime the phone goes to idle (or directly by me pressing the power button) I have to enter the pin to use the phone. There are many instances when I don't want to have to do so, such as while driving when I want to be able to quickly and more safely glance at the phone.
Basically I want to lock the phone on an as needed basis, by simply tapping on an app on the homescreen (or perhaps even a different key combination e.g. volume up + power button). Does such a thing exist?
Power Control Plus works exactly as you described. You can toggle the lockscreen with the press of a widget:

Additionally, I like Unlock w/ WiFi, its automated:

Ummm widget locker
I have been using Tap Tap App to do this.
Screen Off and lock is perfect.
But I think there is still a problem when unlocking ur screen, u still need to press the power button...
No Lock can help on keeping ur screen off but not lock, so that u can press other buttons to trigger ur phone. But it seems that after reboot, the app is not working>.<
thanks for the suggestions! I'll give them all a try.
am looking for an app to go directly to the swipe lock screen without power off so I can switch users without cycling the power button on my tablet. The power button is offset toward the back and annoying to use as well.
Also, do not want to use a proximity sensor app because it drains battery and uses hardware unnecessarily.
If this is something that is already built into android and I haven't found a shortcut, I apologize in advance.
The only way I can turn on my Nexus 5 now is using adb and a computer. Is there a way to possibly turn on my phone on the road? Without the use of a computer?
You can remap with the Volume button.
Just double tap screen to wake
I didn't think the N5 had double-tap. My N6 needs an app, and be rooted, to do it.
Turning on the phone from sleep may be possible (double tap, magnetic screen case, remap button) but if it's been completely switched off...? How do you switch it on without a power button? The power button remap sounds feasible (how do you do that, by the way?) but then how do you change the volume?
I don't know if I post this in the right section. I just wanted to let others know that I've found a way to disable the light from capacitive buttons even if the phone is not in Power Saving Mode, and ofc without any third party software.
You dial *#0*# and you go to the bottom and press "Black". Now, if you hold the power button you can chose to restart the phone and the backlight will stay off.
If you press volume up key after you pressed "Black" it will just exit.
At first I was thinking I broke my phone. Then I realise how it works. Let me know if it helps.
No need for all this. This app can do what you want and more.
