1) How to install? If you have stock zenui go to 1C, if you have a custom ROM go to 1A
If you don't backup all your data you lost all.
1A) First do a TWRP backup on sdcard (if you don't have sdcard just do in internal storage and save the backup on pc. Select system, data, recovery and boot. Then go to wipe - advanced wipe, select dalvik, system, data, cache and Swype.

Now your phone don't have any OS installed so don't boot. We are going to install the stock and unmodified firmware and recovery on the phone.
1B) Download Asus flashtool:

2) Flash recovery
I know there are another method to flash a recovery but this method is simply:
2A) Download twrp from this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-ze520kl-ze552kl-t3742765
Download Zenfone 3 toolkit from this thread:

2B) Unpack and go to zenfone3_clictool/twrp folder. Delete both recoveries and put the 3.2.1 twrp in folder. If you have ZE552KL rename with " twrp-3.0.2-Z012D ", if you have ZE520KL rename with " twrp-3.0.2-Z017D ". Now boot your phone in fastboot, connect to pc and open the Zenfone 3 click tool, follow the instructions and select flash twrp for your device. Reboot your phone in recovery and see if can read internal storage. If read 0B try another time.
3) Rooting is so simple. Just download Magisk
boot in twrp and flash
Xposed work well, I tested only gravitybox
Substratum works... Meh

Great job!
However, I have a question. TWRP you mention to in 2A's version is 3.0.2 or 3.2.1?
I'm sorry that my English is bad.
So, just to be sure, I'm currently on ViperOS, I need to follow from 1A step, right? Or anything before that I have to do first?

No, it doesn't work on the ZE520KL.
As oreo is finally available on this phone I'll also build a new twrp version for it
(If anyone is wondering: I posted OP's twrp some time ago in the oreo beta leak thread here)
Stay tuned...

The ZE552KL TWRP works fine for flashing the Magisk at my ZE520KL but not much else
I can't wait to get a proper TWRP for my ZE520KL
Will this also work for Z012DC (Canadian 5.5" Zenfone3)? I'm running WW_14.2020.1709.68 with TWRP and rooted, would I start from 1A or 1C?

@Kevinxdfun29
Flash magisk, supersu binary or the no verify file if you don't want root. Then wipe cache and dalvik .

My phone is now WW-15.0410.1712.31
I cant sure that my phone will boot or not after flashed twrp. So I go to fastboot mode, and boot into twrp by command:
fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-0-Z012-20171220-oreotest.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.786s]
booting...
But nothing happens, my phone still in fastboot mode.
I can boot into twrp with beta oreo previously released.
I think that twrp is not compatible with official oreo now.

Try install recovery following the instructions in first post. Worked for me
If the "zenfone3 clicktool" method not work try
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-Z012-20171220-oreotest.img
So reboot in recovery and give me a feedback

ROM Flashing Sequence

I've successfully unlocked bootloader, rooted (Magisk) and installed TWRP Blu Spark on my Oneplus 6.
The next step is to flash a custom ROM, but I keep running into the instruction "Flash Rom and TWRP Installer (blu_spark)", no matter what custom ROM I'm looking at.
Is it really necessary to reflash TWRP right after the ROM, or can I skip that step since Blu Spark TWRP is already on my phone?

You need to reflash TWRP everytime you flash a rom becuase recovery partition does not more exist and recovery is integrated in boot.img
1. Wipe everything except internal storage in TWRP.
2. Flash OOS 9.0.X in twrp and flash twrp zip
3. Now reboot to twrp and repeat step 2.
4. Now flash your rom + twrp zip and reboot to twrp.
5. Flash Gapps, magisk or any other zip you want.
You should be good now.

AH! Now that's the secret sauce--flashing 2x. The guides just indicate once, which is probably why when I restart, there's no OS and I get kicked back to TWRP. Thank you sir!! :good:
Can someone explain why I have to format internal data? My guess is the encryption key is changing. And I have no pin or password when I flash.

Your guess is correct. Encryption. It has nothing to do with FP, or code. It's Googles securety patches basically. If you don't want to format look in the decrypt guide and run in decrypted.

How to fresh start in Android 10?

I am on 9.5.11 at the moment. I am rooted with magisk but don't have twrp at the moment. What are the correct steps to go to full stock android 10 and then root the phone again (either with twrp or not. Doesn't matter)?
I am downloading android 10 full rom as I am writing this post.

You can't flash twrp on Android 10. You have to have twrp while in P and then carry it over to Q.
Or flash a patched magisk boot.img then flash twrp installer in magisk manager.
Easiest is to do a local upgrade and flash twrp rentension zip and then install magisk to other slot and reboot system
After that, you can reboot into twrp and do a factory reset to have a fresh install of Q.

Please make sure to take a back up of EVERYTHING ( be it any preferred method you use) . Once you have a backup of your complete phone please proceed to the next step by download the latest OOS 11 Full version( Not the OTA update).
Try updating your phone through Settings -> System Update.
Once the update is complete , Please make sure to reboot your phone to recovery mode once. Which should now be installed with Stock Recovery.
In some cases the stock recovery wipes everything on your phone and reboots.
If not you can wipe using the option Erase Everything including photos in memory.
Once the phone reboots and setup is complete. Reboot your phone once or twice.
The above step may sound weird but it helps you to identify any issue before next step.
MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THE STEPS AS I HAVE STATED ELSE YOUR PHONE WILL END UP WITH CRASH DUMP MODE.
1.Make sure you have necessary ADB drivers installed on your PC.
2.Reboot your phone to Bootloader mode either by using command prompt or by pressing Volume + and Power key. (CMD : adb reboot bootloader )
3.Use Fastboot command to install the attached recovery file. Please do not use other TWRP files. ( CMD : Fastboot boot boot.img) ( boot.img is the file name attached).
4. The phone should reboot to TWRP recovery mode.
5. Under TWRP menu Navigate to Advanced -> Select Install Current TWRP.
6. The step should install your phone with TWRP on both slots.
7. Once install reboot your phone and check if OOS11 is still intact.
8. To verify if TWRP is installed as your recovery . Reboot your phone to recovery mode.
9. Once in recovery mode you can install the attached Magisk V23 apk using menu Install -> choose Magisk apk.
10. Reboot your phone and install Magisk using the same APK.
Viola you are all good to go if you have installed everything as mentioned.
Hope it helps now.

android 11 - twrp bootloop

hey coming from android 10 going to 11 something went wrong during the process. Now i dont have magisk and everytime i try to get in recovery twrp just flashes, screen turn off and then turns on over and over again. I am able to get the phone started if i hold down power and up arrow it boots all the way.
I want to install twrp again and magisk. What is the best way to do this as i dont have access to twrp. I tried TWRP-3.5.1-guacamole-Nebrassy-3.img and i am able to boot in to recovery but i cannot flash current twrp "failed to mount /data" error.
Use the official TWRP. It works fine out of the box.

Thanks got it to work yesterday. I had to change my file system to ex2 then back to ex4 that reformated my phone. I lost all my datA but was able to get TWRP and root.
Question now, which version of TWRP works 100% for a11 on 7pro? And what is the best way to get pixel experience on stock oos on a11?
