Here you go to other topics that will be useful;

It would be appreciated if someone could do such a thing for Oneplus devices.

That wasn't his question, sure Netflix works with an unlocked bootloader... But with reduced video quality. The OP wonders if there's a way to play Netflix videos on HD quality with an unlocked bootloader. But the answer on that is probably no.

L1 DRM with unlocked bootloader

Currently I am on stock OOS with a locked bootloader and I heard that when you unlock the bootloader the DRM gets downgraded to L3.
Is this correct and does it go back to L1 if you relock the bootloader?
Also, is there a hack of some sort that allows the device to continue using L1 DRM with an unlocked bootloader?
L1 not working
I unlocked bootloader and then relocked it again but it is still showing L3 what should i do
Hey check this -> https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/closed-widevine-drm-on-op6.815683/page-2#post-18476836
You can try to flash magisk to pass the saftynet and hide netflix/amazon prime video to try HD content
edit:
My OnePlus 6 with unlocked bootloader and I have DRM lvl 3

I'll probably stay with official OOS for the moment anyway, but thanks for the info
So, has anyone tried OOS 5.1.6 and the fastboot locked bootloader bug to backup and restore the DRM keys while locked or to use Magisk root while on 5.1.6 locked bootloader and see if L1 keys are retained?

There's another thread in this forum that poses that exact question. No one to date has succeeded and I'm not sure it's even possible using the 5.6 boot exploit because Widevine calls home every time it proxies protected content.
I suggested chipping in on a bounty that would go to whomever can find a way to get L1 on a OP6 with its' bootloader unlocked using a method that would be successful with ROMs based on OOS, LOS and AOSP. I figured a little financial incentive could provide some motivation, but nobody else seemed willing to contribute. ?

Since I need L1 on an unlocked bootloader, I ended up getting a Moto Z3 Play despite it being slower since Widevine L1 stays regardless of bootloader state or Magisk being installed.

OnePlus 6 is NOT rooted but can't use Google Pay or install Netflix

When I got my OP6, I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my OnePlus 6 when it was running 5.1.9. However, SafetyNet Check would randomly sometimes pass and sometimes fail for a while, after settling on failing. I was and still am unable to use google pay or install netflix. Other apps could also detect I was rooted and would not run despite me hiding root from them using magisk hide.
I recently upgraded my phone to 5.1.11 using the OTA update. This removed root, so I assumed these would start working again after the update, but they still do not. Various apps still think I am rooted and do not run.
Does anybody have any insight about what can be the cause of this, or how I can get SafetyNet Check to pass? I don't even care about root, I just want to be able to use google pay
Have you tried locking the bootloader again? Often times, an unlocked bootloader will simply cause a fail for Safetynet. Again, not 100% sure this'll work, but it's worth a shot.
Your bootloader is unlocked check your bootloader if bootloader is locked then you need to wipe your data most of devices need to be wiped after you unroot your device.
easy fix and all you need to do is clear the playstore data so that it gets a fresh start and then reboot and check the google play store settings and see if its ceritfied again.

Google pay will work if you re-lock your bootloader. Not sure about Netflix as I don't use it on my mobile.
Edit: as for insight into why, it's a security thing. When you unlock your bootloader you compromise the security of your device so certain things won't work by design.
People need to stop suggesting to lock the bootloader. It's not needed! I have an unlocked bootloader and everything works fine. You need to install magisk and clear play store data like I told you in the second thread you created.

While you do not need to lock the bootloader to use Netflix, you do need to lock it for HD playback. Netflix uses Widevine DRM and you need Widevine L1 for HD playback. If your bootloader is unlocked you only have Widevine L3. L3 will still allow you to view Netflix content, but you won't get 720p and up without L1. You can use the "DRM Info" app from the Play Store to confirm your Widevine level and use the "Test Patterns" videos inside Netflix to confirm what your max resolution and framerate are.

As said there are only two solutions, either go entirely locked and stock(ed) or do what yldlj said. It actually quite simple people.
If you unlock your bootloader, you HAVE root with Magisk and make sure you hide root for all mobile payment apps. Just having an unlocked bootloader WILL FAIL SAFETYNET CHECKS. So you either lock your bottle or unlock it and root.
The Netflix thing is if you unlock you won't be certified in the play store so you won't see Netflix to install it. If you download the apk you can install it and is it without root but your widevine security is L3 and can only playback a Mac resolution of 480p. You will have to have a locked bootloader to to playback anything 720p, 1080p and 1440p

My bootloader is unlocked and I am not using magisk to hide anything yes I am still certified in Google Play and Netflix is showing up to download. Make sure you are in a country that supports Netflix. Netflix is not available in every country. Also my Magisk is passing safety net checks with the unlocked bootloader

Maybe something changed because it was that way but it's still the same deal for the widevine security that you cant be unlocked and be level 1 (L1) that you can't change with root or hiding anything.

You might not be hiding those specific apps but the magisk hide toggle will be enabled which is enough. So yes you are using magisk hide. anyway the OP hasn't even been replying so yes either fixed the issue it doesn't care anymore.

Unlocking T mobile boot loader

So im switching to tmobile from ATT and I was able to order a One Plus 7, However I just found out that the phone is locked down to tmobile which is fine, however I see tmobile version is always behind in updates. I saw that I can pay off the phone and unlock the bootloader, which I can then install the updates from One Plus website, However will unlocking my boot loader via Tmobile will that break the security which causes Netflix and such to be 480P?

Unlocking the bootloader on any newer OnePlus phone takes Widevine from L1 to L3. Meaning no hd on Netflix. Doesn't matter if it's the TMobile 7 pro, or the one directly from OnePlus.

All OnePlus phones sold are with locked bootloader. By unlocking any version you lose the HD compatibility with Netflix etc.

The difference with the bootloader unlock between the TMobile version, and the version from OnePlus is you don't have to Sim unlock the device directly from OnePlus. You can unlock the bootloader immediately after unboxing it.
With the TMobile version you have to get a sim unlock, and then apply for a bootloader unlock token from OnePlus which takes 7 days. After 7 days they send you an email with an unlock.bin.

Thanks for the info. My biggest thing is I am just hoping to get updates faster. From my understanding tmobile is always much slower with updates? Someone said OnePlus is already on the 2nd or 3rd update and tmobile only has the day one update?

Widevine Security Level after unlocking bootloader/root

UPDATE 2020-11-12:
With the latest 11.0.3.4 update, Widevine stays at L1 even if you unlock the bootloader or root!
Hi all,
I have seen one comment that someone rooted the 8T and widevine becomes L3 instead of L1, unlike the 8/8 Pro.
Can anyone with rooted 8T or bootloader unlocked 8T comment below what is your widevine security level? You can use the app here to check: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidfung.drminfo&hl=en
Please include your 8T model (e.g. KB2005), whether bootloader is unlocked and/or your phone is rooted. Thanks in advance!

Phones with Widevine L3 cannot stream HD content from many DRM protected services such as Netflix. You can stream max 480p.

When I got my phone and set it up, I had updates from the play store. Netflix was one of those it updated.
I unlocked my bootloader and later on when I tried to use netflix, it promoted me I needed to update the app. When I said ok. It took me to the play store where it said Netflix isn't compatible with my device.
Installing an apk for netflix found on the web gets me netflix, but it still doesn't show in the play store. Plus maximum playback is SD only.
Unlocking the bootloader changed my L1 to L3.

Enabling MagiskHide, then clearing cache and data for play store allows netflix to show up in the play store. However still has the SD issue in the netflix app.

I had this problem before being rooted, so never had magisk to do that. But will give that a try now.
Also. Just doing a quick Google search, there are a few things I've found out. The persist.img apparently holds the DRM keys. If this was changed or damaged it sets Widevine to L3.
I don't think by unlocking the bootloader or rooting that it touches the persist.img, so not sure if that has anything to do with it?
Also, by reading some xda threads and threads on the OnePlus forum, it seems like a system update can fix the issue and you still be unlocked\rooted. Seems to be the case for op8 and some older ones

I don't think it has anything to do with persist.img (that one is more related to the fingerprint). On OP8, OnePlus released a fix and solve the issue, but for older phones like OP6, as long as you unlocked the bootloader, it's permanently Widevine L3 even if you relock it. This is what I am worried about.

Once unlocked, you can't go back to L1. Qualcomm has a "feature" called QFuse, a microscopic fuse on the SOC. It blows if the device is unlocked. That breaks the chain of trust.
Is this something that will affect warranty? Like Knox on Samsung?
Hello! I did what you wanted me to do. I'm rooted with Magisk, Magisk Hide turned on for the DRM checker, and I'm on the latest 11.0.1.2.KB05BA (EU) Widevine is L3.

Nah. Xiaomi and Pixel devices retain L1 on bootloader unlock, even though those devices use Qualcomm chipsets too. So it's definitely not that.
After unlocking the bootloader I was unable lo load Netflix.

Any issues with Google pay for unlocked bootloader?

I have Tmobile Oneplus 8. I haven't unlocked the bootloader yet. Will I have any issues with Google pay with unlocked bootloader if I'm going to unlock it?
I'm using company secure email app on my phone as well. If I have any issues, will I be able to lock the bootloader?
