unauthorized reboot installs root certificates - Moto G4 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all,
I was siting at my PC when my Lineage cell Moto G4 Plus suddenly rebooted while sitting on desk.
I had Not touched it.
It is locked and needs a password to start or open after 30 seconds.
I have absolutely no idea why this happened, battery was at 80% charge.
When digging I found an unknown number of ROOT Certificates had been installed, from all over the world.
I disabled them all for now.
I tried to password my sim card but am not allowed it has already been password protected but not by me.
I am thinking changing my sim might secure it, not sure.
I have made backups stored offline and off the cell.
Any information will be greatly accepted.
Thank you.
LP
EDIT: Data, Bluetooth and Wifi are always off

Root Access is also always Disabled

[Q] HELP PLEASE! Too many incorrect attempts

I recently bought myself a transformer prime tf201 and i have had a pattern on it for a little while. A few friends attempted without me noticing to unlock it and eventually got to the stage where it asks for my google account username and password.
However even when i put those in its says invalid username or password, i have read this is a bug to do with multiple accounts.
I really dont want to factory reset the tablet. Ive seen apps that i can remote install to temporary bypass the lockscreen, however the tablet has wifi completely turned off so i cant do anything like that. Is there anyway over the usb connection to turn wifi on, install an app, or some how bypass the lock screen. Also if there is no way of doing that can i root the device and somehow get all my stuff back. I have had no luck so far, please help as i have no idea how i can get all my stuff back without resetting it. It would be greatly appreciated for an answer to my problem and if i have to root it a link to something helping me to do that.
Thanks heaps Brent.
ps. when the device is locked the usb connection is useless as nothing comes up on the computer
I have the same problem! my password is refused!

[Q] Remote enabling GPS - Stolen device

Hello guys,
The unthinkable has happened, I forgot my phone in a public place...
*Running 5.1.1
*It's rooted
*Its not encrypted so theoretically someone could wipe the device bypassing the lock screen
*I know that no one has wiped it yet because I can remotely install apps via playstore and verify that they have been installed, meaning LTE is still enabled, and it has battery life.
*I have Android Device Manager installed
Here is the kicker, I habitually leave GPS disabled to lengthen battery life. I've remotely installed Cerberus to the phone but I'm not sure if there is any use trying with cerbus if I haven't launched or signed into cerberus on the device itself. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can remotely activate my GPS? I'm running out of time before the battery dies or someone wipes the device. I have to either locate it or remotely clear the internal memory.
Thanks for any help guys.
I have just tried my Cyanogen account online and as soon as i hit locate it turns my GPS to high accuracy. Not sure if this is only on COS12 or if it works on any CM rom (if you are using CM)

[Q] locked out with android device manager

so a while back I misplaced my shield at work and to avoid leaving my account vulnerable I sent a lock request via android device manager (device wasn't connected to wifi)
A couple days later the device was found and returned to me and i continued using it offline for a while to keep my battery from draining too fast.
then a few weeks later I went online to download new Fpse plugins and the device locked as it should've...but i forgot what password i used. "No problem" I thought, and went onto ADM and set a new password.
I got this message and the new password was not recognized. I've tried all my usual passwords with no luck and would rather not do a factory reset as I'm pretty sure my ocarina of time save is on the internal memory and I really don't want to do the water temple again
I've called some branch of google (they make it very difficult to find someone to talk to) as well as nvidia with each party telling me to contact the other.
Is there anything I can do?

Help! S7 Now Asking for Startup Password

Hi All,
Apologies for in advance for what may be a long post but I want to give as much information as possible in case anyone might be able to help.
So about 3 years ago I purchased a Samsung S7 (GM-G930f) from a phone shop. The device was rooted. This hadn't really caused any issues until today. The phone was overheating and losing it's charge very quickly. I downloaded Malwarebytes & AVG separately and did a scan with both.
One of them suggested turning off developer mode and a setting in it due to a security issue. (An OEM setting I think)
So I turned this off. A short while later the battery died. When I went to charge and turn the phone back on I got a message saying 'Custom binary locked by FAP Lock'.
After a bit of researching it seemed I had to reflash the firmware to the device. I got the most recent version from Sammobile and installed it using Odin. I used the "Home CSC" file in an effort to retain the data on the phone.
So that all seemed to work but the phone is now asking for a password- "Your phone is encrypted for security. To start up your device enter your password"
We have no clue what this password is- have tried the google account password and the samsung account password but no luck. I also logged on to the Find My Phone section on Samsung which was suggested on a couple of websites, however the device needs to be connected to a network before this service is of any use.
Is there any way at all I can retrieve the data from the phone without having to perform a factory reset? I am by no means a developer but am tech savvy and can follow clear instructions. There are recent photographs of immense sentimental value on the phone.
Also I am not some thief trying to hack into a phone. It is my partners phone and she has had it for 3 years.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated

Type (default_password) without brackets obviously, if it doesn't work root the phone with Odin and see if it's starts normally.
Also do you know if you changed photo storage to sd card? If so you can remove it and see what's pics are stored there under folder DCIM. A firmware restore does nothing to the sd card.

hey- thanks for getting back to me. Yeah I've checked the sd card already- unfortunately it was saving to the phone it seems! Just tried that password and no luck.
Will rooting the phone with Odin wipe the data? I'll have to look up how to do it so I don't mess it up!
Thanks again

No rooting won't wipe. Use cf auto root

Data recovery from encrypted Nokia 6.1

TL;DR - Phone will not accept correct encrypt password. Need to dump data partition to computer and decrypt from there, or something like that.
So I have a Nokia 6.1 from 2018 that I used for just about a year. I upgraded to a nicer phone during summer 2019, at which point I transferred all the data I thought I needed, turned the power off, put the phone on a shelf and forgot about it for many months. I remember when I last powered it down, the battery was fully charged. Quite some time later I realized I needed to retrieve some important data written down in an old OneNote account that was synced with that phone and nothing else. Upon logging in, I discovered Microsoft had wiped the account clean due to an extended period of inactivity, meaning the only copy of that data now exists on that phone and nowhere else.
When I dug out the phone and tried to power it up, the battery was completely flat. I plugged it in and it booted up okay, but it would not accept the passphrase to unlock. I can only assume this is due to some sort of bug in Android (I believe it is running 9 Pie, but I don't remember for certain), as I know for a fact the password is correct. I've been putting off trying to unlock this thing for over a year now, but it needs to be done. I've noticed over my several attempts to enter the password that the phone has been behaving somewhat erratically. For example, it doesn't always respond to the power button right away. I'll try to press it again, and the screen will blink on and off several times. Also, when I first tried to unlock the phone, I could enter the passphrase as many times as I wanted, but now when I try, it locks me out for 30 seconds after each attempt, and also notifies me of the total number of failed attempts. When I reboot the phone, the failed attempt counter resets to zero.
Do I have any recourse here? Since I know the passphrase, is it possible to dump the encrypted data partition to my computer and decrypt it from there? The phone is not rooted, nor does it have any custom ROMs or anything like that. I appreciate any help anyone can give.
Quick addendum, I attempted to sideload the final OTA update sourced from the Nokia OTA Repository on Telegram onto the phone via recovery mode. It is running Android 10 now but still no luck unlocking. Interestingly, however, the failed attempt counter now appears to be working correctly, indicating I have entered the incorrect passphrase 31 times now. I'm not sure how many more times I can do that before it wipes everything.
