Anyone know what is this 'fh_gpt_header_0' error in QFIL? - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone,
I have a bricked Nokia 8 device and have been trying to attempt to connect it with QFIL via. EDL mode so I can get into Partition Manager (and hopefully do other things).
I believe I have been doing it correctly, however no matter how many times I try, some of the suspicious lines returned to me is this:
Code:
WARNING: Couldn't find the file 'fh_gpt_header_0', returning NULL
At the moment this is the only thing stopping me. I have even checked the file location of this "file" and it's 0 bytes!
I don't quite understand what this is, does anyone have any knowledge of this perhaps? And also if there is anything that can be done about it too??
Hope all is well and sincerely look forward to your posts!

Anyone at all may I ask?
I've located the working folder for this file and the file is there...but contains nothing, it's like a dummy file with only 0 bytes!

Do some research on how to solve "firehose" error in Qfil. The "fh" in your error represents firehose.

Hello @Droidriven!
So sorry for my late reply, I am very glad that someone (and it being yourself) has given me some sort of info behind this!
I've been looking into it, and it could be related to this "firehose error".
This video (from this current playback time) demonstrate a solution: https://youtu.be/COyKzkY2UBg?t=129
But I don't understand it. He does the normal routine of using QFIL by loading up the firmware and necessary xml files, and thus gives the usual firehose error. Then he proceeds to open another firmware file with a slightly different filename...out of nowhere...and boom, it magically works!
The video isn't that long but might you (or anyone else here) know what is exactly happening perhaps??

Hello @Droidriven (or anyone here...)?
Did you manage to check the video on the firehose error solution I linked? I am still incredibly baffled how he proceeds to open another firmware file with a slightly different filename and it works. Does anyone know what this is?
Or anyone know of a "better" firehose solution?

Hi everyone!
It's been exactly 7 weeks and a day since my last post, and it's been really hard a day after that as the pandemic was announced, here in the UK we are on lockdown too and I still can't access my phone for contacts and messages...I can't talk to anyone! :'(
I'm still figuring out how to get this to work, and I still don't understand how (at least in the youtube video) that person managed to resolve his problem. Because he proceeds to open another firmware file with a slightly different filename and it works.
Does anyone know what this is?
Also this is of course going on the assumption of @Droidriven stating "firehose" and that this could be the problem I'm having accessing my partitions. Anyone know or have experienced this by any chance?

I am at a loss, I wish I knew more about Nokia devices. I've been helping you with a generalized understanding of other devices that use similar processes. None of it is specific to a certain device. I can only help with little things I have learned in passing when dealing with users of other devices that required unbrickingbinna similar manner to yours. I'm certain that there are some fine detail specifics and differences that are important to your process that I just don't have in order to give you. I wish I did, you've been banging your head against a wall with this one, I know how frustrating it is to know that your device can almost certainly be fixed with the correct method but at the same time have no luck in finding exactly what the solution is. You know it can be done, but HOW?

Yeah I know what you mean ,I completely understand and I very much appreciate what information you've given me too. It's just a shame that these devices are all quite niche even though they are incredibly similar.
Still frustrated and banging my head against a wall, I just need to find a way to make communication between computer and my phone. I feel like my only option is to go JTAG with a box device, however I would need the exact points on the board to make contact. Anyone know where I can get this information?
Also, anyone might know why I am getting this error in the first place?? :crying:

[Q][SOLVED]Possible Brick, can still see files with adb

Hello all,
I was trying to install CWM on my transformer, and I was successful. The issue is that now I cannot start my transformer. When I press the power button, it turns on and comes to the screen with "Eee Pad" in the middle with Asus at the bottom and the Tegra logo below that. It sits at this screen with the speakers making a popping sound.
I followed the tutorial at this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk_JREpqFkk
I had already done the one click root in the dev section, and I followed the tutorial in the description of the link above, I didn't know it was going through rooting before getting to install CWM, so I followed all the steps. I finally got to the end and tested to see if CWM was installed and it is. but I am having the issue I described above.
I want to flash a new ROM, but there are files I need to get off the internal storage, the CWM backup didn't get the files I wanted.
I decided to run ADB to try and get the files, it is able to list everything on the device, but when I issue the "pull" command, it says "error: device not found."
Is there any hope of getting my files off of this before I just flash a ROM since CWM is working? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I guess my next question is if I were to go ahead and flash a new ROM, will it touch the internal "SDCARD" folder? As I mentioned before I have a nandroid backup of all my apps, so that isn't an issue right now.
Flashing a rom won't touch your SDCARD folder. Now that you have CWM on there, I would do a wipe and reflash whatever ROM you're using. If your device is showing a boot screen at all, its not bricked.
Well I went ahead and did a wipe and flash of Krakd. Turns out I did lose the files on the internal storage. This will be a lesson learned for me, get a better backup system in place. I lost half of my semesters notes due to my impatience to get to a new ROM. *Note to self: Don't flash ROMs just before college finals week.*
I had most of my files backing up to dropbox with SugarSync, but a small chunk which happens to be the chunk I need for my final exams is lost. Unless flashing the ROM hid my files in some other directory it seems they are gone.
I do thank you for trying to help me out, and I am typing this from my Transformer, so it is back up and running, restoring all my apps. And I do have to say that Krakd is one hell of a fast ROM compared to stock, theres barely a hiccup even while it is restoring 150+ apps from my google account.
EDIT:
Actually I just realized that even though SugarSync was turned off on my PC, it was still backing up online automatically so I have recovered most of my notes. So as a message to everyone else, get sugarsync set up, it automatically syncs your files in the background, and it turned out to be a big life saver for me.
Possible Brick....
Can still see files with adb....
FYI
In the strictest sense of the term, bricking must imply that software error has rendered the device completely unrecoverable without some hardware replacement.
It was never a brick, the only bricks around are the ones that dropped from your arse when you couldnt boot the tablet.

Haha, I like that line, definitely true.
I did realize that the term 'brick' meant that the device was just as useful as a brick when that actually occurred, I just wanted to get some attention to the thread to possibly get it fixed sooner. If anything it was a soft brick.

Don't take it personally. You have more knowledge about Android software and hardware than I do, if you were at my level of knowledge I'm sure you'd want as many brains as you could looking at the issue to help out. I wasn't doing it to be a 'chump.'
I rarely ask questions on here because after enough searching around, I usually find a solution has already been found to my problem. This case was one of those times where I could not find a similar issue to solve my problem, and to me it was a time-sensitive problem.

[APP][3.0+] Flexible Unit Converter (FUC)

There are literally hundreds of unit converter apps on Google Play.
I believe FUC is the only one that uses dimensional analysis in the conversion engine to let the user build, combine, and convert an endless number of complex units.
This is my first app and I would appreciate all comments and suggestions. Thanks!

Re: [APP][3.0+] Flexible Unit Conversion Tool (FUCT)
I just downloaded. Very good app. Well done! Sadly, while I have an Engineering degree, I mostly do only IT work these days But it looks like you have most conversions covered.
My suggestions:
1- the number pad/keyboard to add values for the conversion takes up ~75% of my tablet's screen. Not a big deal, but could be a bit smaller.
2- on the favorites page, I think it would be more intuitive to click on the row itself instead of the number on the left side.
3- It took me a while to figure out that I could click on the conversion result value and change the display options (like scientific notation threshold). Maybe have some help or indicator that keys the user know how to change these settings.
Good luck with the app!
Hey, thanks. I never tested it on a tablet, so I'm glad to hear it at least works, even if the keypad is way too big.
I'll fix the favorites as you suggest, and make the conversion result display options access more obvious.
Much appreciated.
Updated to 0.3: easier to use favorites, search function, and bug fixes.
Lots more things I could add or change, but it doesn't seem worth it since it's only getting about 1 download / day. Hopefully just needs more time.

I know this is a very old thread but the author was responding so I'll ask here anyway. This is an awesome tool that I've used for years very happily. However, as of today v0.54 force closes on my A10e running Android 11 stock. I've reset cache and date with no success. I wasn't notified of an update but there you go.
I'm guessing I may be alone in using the app, but I don't know of any real alternative. I'm hoping rhe author sees this but if anyone else has any thoughts or alternative unit converters to suggest I'm open to suggestions.
I don't know what's out there. Just converting units seems a bit limited.
I've had a private app on Windows that is a calculator and knows about units.
I keep on thinking about porting it to Android
1 inch/((1 ampere/-electron charge/avogadro's number)/(18awg/atomic volume(cu)))
This tells you that an Ampere of DC current through an 18AWG cable will take 4 minutes 43 seconds to move the electrons one inch.
There are lots of calculators but there are no other flexible converters ive located. I would consider a combined cLculator/unit converter if it utilized custom units like FUC. That is the only feature i really have a use for since everything else has been done.
I found ConvertAll for Linux/Windows that may work. It's certainly not as slick as FUC, but it might be a fall back option.
Convertall - Screenshots
It's only Windows so not what I want though...

[Q] security: chronologically keep track of all my apk installs

I recently received another scammish text which led me to suspect an app or apk I installed was to blame (possibly). Is there a way to chronologically see things I've installed on my phone. Stock Downloads app won't work because if I deleted the apk or installed it in a different way it won't show. There should be a way to see all of the things you've installed non market, apks, modules, or whatever. To be able to trace back and find a culprit. Kinda like a criminal rap sheet.
Your best bet is TITANIUM BACKUP !!! Sort all apps by date installed it will give you time installed !!!

No. I want something that can chronologically list on my phone all of those things that I've installed or modified or installed then deleted. Like a total history of installs.

Please elaborate....
Haven't heard of such a thing. Sorry.
Titanium can tell you app installs, even play store kinda keeps track. Initial install order anyway.
But to track apps, mods, alterations...anything? Nope. And flashing in recovery would not be trackable inside the O/S anyway.
---------- Post added at 11:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:06 AM ----------
Basically, if there isn't some kind of a thing on the play store....then it doesn't exist.
Scam texts are pretty common in some countries. I don't think it has anything to do with an app you installed unless you gave Snapchat your phone number as they got hacked a while back.

If you made an app to log package installs it would be a waste of time + have to be running on your device all the time. It'll also hardly be of any use, since most people aren't installing like 20 apps a day, every day. Just write it down if you really need to LOL.
For packages you currently have installed via Play or .apk installation you could go into /data/app and look at the dates on the .apk files. If you flashed something in recovery it'll show up as August 1 1970 or August 1 2008 or whatever generic date. As said previously, Titanium Backup uses this if you sort by date lol.
Edit, example (most mine are 25 July since I restored them through Titanium Backup):

Pixel 2 9.0 FRP bypass

I recently bought a pixel 2 XL for cheap on ebay, turns out it is FRP locked. I was looking for a bypass and they all seem to be patched. E.g. Talkback, maps, magnification. While digging I was able to get to the internet in a limited capacity. The google keyboard allows you to search for gifs and I was able open a tenor gif which had the a link to see more gifs which led me to a website. Ill link pictures. I was able to navigate from there to facebook and then to youtube and the rest of the internet by logging into facebook and messaging myself or posting links privately on my wall. What I could not do was launch other apps or download anything. Anyways this is what I've manage so far, hopefully someone can finish what I have started.

That's kinda not helpful at all. The way it works is you post your method and anyone who accidentally locked their own device can unlock it. Naturally, this is not useful for blacklisted IMEIs in the US.

The problem with any discussion about bypassing Google's Factory Reset Protection - even if it were possible - is that it is impossible to determine if we're helping people legitimately access their phone or if we're helping them take over an ill-gotten phone. That's why conversations around this topic always stall out. We don't want to go around accusing people and we also don't want to even inadvertently be party to theft.

I’m not able to find a true working frp bypass. I don’t get a search icons to bypass like all the videos show for android P. And the helo&feedback button doesn’t take you anywhere. So I’m guessing Verizon blocked it in the last patch
The only way to fix this is to send it back to the seller. Ask for a refund.

Factory Reset Protection is Annoying, Get Rid of it!!!
I purchased a Google Pixel 2 Certified Refurbished on Amazon and I have this issue as well. If anyone has a solution I suggest they post it...party to theft or not, **** happens and I hate when device vendors install crap like this claiming it's to prevent theft....it's to boost sales, period. Fortunately I can get a refund or replacement but its a bleeping waist of time having to mail in my phone and wait for another phone be sent to me.
IMO this factory reset protection hurts more legitimate users than it protects. It create brick/useless devices that is a waist of resources just so companies can make more $ . . . If you lose your phone, track it down, get insurance and/or consider it a loss. If I irreversibly lost my phone I would not harbor some BS attachment to it...Ideally I would like it returned but alternatively I'd prefer someone else make use of it than create more waist.

Light L16 Firmware

Greetings! I recently rolled the dice on an eBay purchase for a Light L16 camera. The device appears to have had some serious OS problems/botched root/adb commands/I am honestly not quite sure what has gone wrong with it, but it is not even showing the OS as LightOS (the camera OS). I was wondering if any of you might have the firmware laying around somewhere, or any experience flashing these devices with AOSP/variants?
I wish I could help. I'm in the same boat with a recent eBay L16 purchase. The one I received appears to be one of the early Beta cameras. It does boot. But the firmware is really old, so the camera won't save any images. I was able to sideload Open Camera, but it just crashes. I'll keep on looking for some updated firmware/ OS. Unfortunately, I believe finding that is highly unlikely once Light stopped all work on the camera and the Nokia Pureview. No one who worked on the project is even associated with Light any longer. Will post anything I possibly locate.
Thanks for the reply! I reached out to Light via the email addresses, but I'll be shocked if anyone replies. I tried reaching out to a couple of employees on LinkedIn as well, same result.
I think I got enough information pulled from adb to maybe attempt a LineageOS port. Is your device missing a ton of system options as well? I'm having to hammer this thing through command line.
Yes, mine is missing many options, based on what I know of the camera software's evolution. I had purchased one of the early production cameras back in 2017; since sold it when Light got out of the business.
My unit has LightOS-1,2,2_1 and firmware 428992. The biggest issue for me is the format of the lri RAW files changed over time and can no longer be read by the current Lumen software (can't find the old versions), basically making the camera useless.
I'm not very technical when it comes to Android, so you'd be doing a great service if you can make any headway. Thanks.
I've also had this problem recently,,, and it looks like that Light have completely abandoned the maintenance and support for L16, but I think since light L16 is an Android based device, then if we can get access to the firmware for the later models we should possibly being able to try and flush it in. I really don't know much about Android though....Anyway, so I hope that someone can find a solution for this as I really have no clue about it.
I have a production, working L16 with latest software -- in addition to what I believe is one of the early beta units from eBay. I'm not experienced enough to attempt to pull the firmware and software from the working one; all the commercial solutions fail. They seem to require an application to be loaded to the camera, which doesn't work.
I'm more than willing to devote more effort, if someone has a reliable solution, and could post the files.
I'm in the same boat as y'all. I just received an L16 I bought off of eBay with LightOS version 1.3.0.3-057 and camera firmware version 0039C80D. When I try to update it in the settings app I just get a "You have the latest software, there is no new update available." message.
If someone had the final V1.3.4.1 update files that we could download that would be amazing.
Hello, I also recently bought one off eBay. Interestingly enough, my error when trying to update is 'failed to query software information'.
LightOS-1.3.2.5-098 and Camera firmware 00624245.
Kernel version 3.18.20-perf-g40a11f1, [email protected] #1, Thu, Jun 21 18:35:48 PDT 2018.

If you have the latest (last) version of the firmware (1.3.4.1) you should be able to 'enable unknown sources' in the settings (see more info here) and then install APKs via the browser. This way you can install any companion app needed to dump the firmware.
It would be awesome to get the latest version.
Edit-spelling and links*
Update:
Reached out to Light on email and Twitter to see if we can get a offline update image/dump/apk.
Reached out to a few users on GitHub that owned L16 related repositorys to see if they still have their cameras and could create a firmware dump.
Had a look at the Android logs and can see that the updater is trying to reach out to this URL for an update: https://www.c2dms.com/api/v1/SWImage/SystemUpgrade
The website has shutdown by Google on July 30th, 2015, but before then the URL was changed to ota.c2dms anyway.

I understand there is a FB group.
I don't have a FB account, but maybe someone there can help.
I just got an L16, but need updates from OS 1306 to get it going.
Any help is really appreciated.
Same here I just my L16 new in the box with LightOS 1.3.0.6-083 and cannot update to the last OS Light pushed out.. Bummer.
It's a real bummer!
I've been calling the phone number for Light Labs for 2 weeks and emailing the CEO/Founder on a daily basis to ask for a link- I've heard nothing.
I'm returning mine.
Hey all, does anyone on this thread happen to have the offline Windows Lumen installer or know where I can find it?? Thanks!
it seems to have gone away in the last 2 weeks. It was here:

I have a Mac copy I downloaded a few weeks back if it helps you.

Better than nothing haha. I can always spin up a Mac VM on one of my servers if I don't find the Windows package.
*edit* And I guess that explains why I can't find it posted anywhere if they took it down so recently.
It appears that though the page linking to them has been taken down, the actual files are hosted on dropbox, and can be found using the wayback machine. Linked here:

These may disappear soon too, so I am including a zip of both of them here as well.
Edit: Adding a link to the most recent Wayback Machine save of the download page

If only the firmware and OS updates were there too.
I wish. I'm still stuck on version 1.3.0.6-083 (Late January 2018). I think others are on lower versions than that, but unfortunately I'm new to all this and don't know how to dump such things, or how useful it would be,

Thanks so much.
I'm receiving brand new ones, no idea the firmware that will be. If I can help get a firmware image off them, I will.

Does this prevent you from doing anything? Does the Lumen software not support the image format used by this firmware version?
