[APP][2.1+] Zing YouTube Player an alternative YouTube app for Android

Hi All,
NEW RELEASE: Zing YouTube Player version 0.9.5 has had a major update to improve the look and feel.
The Zing Player is an Android alternative YouTube app that aims to be one of the the best YouTube apps on Android.
The Zing YouTube Player has advanced features compared to the stock Google Player. The ZingPlayer keeps the current playing video window always visible so you can keep watching when searching for something to watch next. (Unlike the original Google YouTube app which stops playing a soon as you search for more videos!)

Tried it, has some really nice features over the official app. Here's some thoughts on it.
- need to be able to login to your account
- continue playback even when screen is off would be nice
- no exit button to kill the app
- design could be better?

This would be a very useful addition but unfortunately:
It is against the Google YouTube developers terms and conditions.
The new Google YouTube Android Player that I am using automatically stops if it put in the background or covered up by anything.
There are lots of apps that do work in the background and it is a very useful feature so I don't know why they prevent this.

Just press the home button to exit, I put the app totally to sleep when you press the home button.

Please let us rearrange/reorder/sort favorited videos and subscriptions.
What's Google's policies on not allowing alternative YouTube clients to have a login feature? Google bans TubeMate from Play store because the third-party app logins users to their YouTube accounts and stays login, (but I got TubeMate from Amazon AppSore.). On the other hand, Google permits PVSTAR+, which logs in to user accounts to fetch existing playlists but then does not stay log in, (i.e., it logs out immediately after getting the playlists.) Maybe your app can do the same and login to accounts to just fetch existing favorites, playlists, and subscriptions.
Better yet, just have two versions of your app: (1) the Google Play version, which does not have the login feature, and another version that has the login feature. (2) another version that will be on Amazon or elsewhere but NOT Google Play. This version will let users stay login to their YouTube accounts. The Play version will let users know that, if they want to login to YouTube, they should get the Plus/Premium/Pro version from outside Play store at Amazon or elsewhere. That's a way to circumvent Goggle's unfair self-serving terms and conditions.

I am preparing a new version with improved designs and use of colour. The colours are used to indicate what info you are looking at, green for search results, red for the currently playing video and blue for a video which is not currently playing. I hope you find the colours useful when you get use to them.

Sorry there is no login to your account available, but it very quick to add your favourite videos and channels.

There is a way to change the order (but it is not ideal). Choose and press a favourite video and then unfavorite and then favourite the same video again. That video has now moved to the top of the list.

can you post your upnp/dlna receiver type, i need this so i can put it in description devices that's been tested on.
for casting chooser server, it's opening only to show the ads
and the idea of the app is, you set up once the streaming servers, and then everything will be casted there.
maybe i'll make a version for beta testers where activity screen will immediately be closed (you'll not even see the screen and the track will be casted)

I'm working on a new version, that will support casting media from your phone to upnp devices. probably some receivers cant stream media outside the local network.

After a few hours of streaming YouTube, vimeo and mycloud I have to say it runs flawlessly. Zero stream issues to Windows Media Player, My PS3 and the Sony Bluray Player. Thank you for this app.
Aldo no crashes or graphical glitches to report as of yet. I'll keep playing with it how ever.

You can send feedback directly in the left menu of the App.

I suggest that on the search result, not only show the name of the video / music, but also the length of time, how long for the video / music.
And also, it would be great if the search result can show the playlist of other people, like on the official YouTube app.

This app is absolutely genius!! Thank you so much for creating this!
Suggestions:
- Settings to choose default quality to download
- Removal of default youtube account, or implementation of option to use our own account (app is really early version, I understand)
- Option to exit the app from the notification on lockscreen (for now pause and swipe it away)
Bugs:
- Alot of urls cannot be fetched for some reason (lukas graham feat Brandon Beal golden for example), but I encountered 6-10 songs in 25 tries (once a song reports error, retrying never helps though the message suggests it)
Last note - what about the legal aspect of this app, especially in regards to the download feature? Have you considered a reaction from Google?

The application's purpose is just bringing the comfortable to user by provide some "limited features" of youtube app such as listening sound from video to save bandwidth and saving offline contents. It has a bit of trouble about video's copyright but I think it can be ignore because there are many website and browser/plugin does the same.
The app is Non-profit 100%. I neither intend to publish it on Play store nor compete with youtube app.

About servers and availability - is the conversion of songs and fetching from YouTube happen on your server infrastructure? If yes, you might want to change that to happen on the user's phone, at least any part of the process requirering bandwidth, as that is the pricy part. Also to avoid local restrictions on content.. The conversion of songs, I don't know if that is possible locally on Android, it requires you to add much more code to the app.
About copyright, I think you are right, but moving workload to the individual device also helps here :good:

All streaming data come from googlevideo host, it means my app does the same with youtube app except while you download video as mp3 type.

Question, is it planned to implement the suggest feature youtube have? Eg, when I play a song, similar or related songs are shown.. It's tricky I know, I was just wondering?

Just noticed the following errors when downloading songs.. I guess the timestamps and titles will allow you to investigate if necessary.

Current version also fetches related songs, after current playback (online) ended, the next one related with it will auto play.
I planning to design screen "Player" which help you to control playback (seek, next, pause,...) and see the related songs.

You're a genius. Best online music app ever, I really liked it. Could you add predictive search just like in youtube or it isn't possible?

Love the app idea.
Here are suggestions:
1). Playlists - It would be nice to search/play music playlists.
2). Seek Bar - There are some long music mixes or playlists converted into one large file, the ability to fast forward the long track is not possible.
These two features makes YouTube a great app for music.

With Amazon Fire TV arm64 libs start to download but then the app crashed and won't start up again. Deleted cache and data and the app will start again and trying to download the libs again but it is again crashing.

Works in CM14.1, Moto G 2014. It would be nice to have an option to store to the external SD card with DocumentProvider storage.
I am able to store to the external SD card if I create an app folder like "/storage/SD_CARD_FOLDER/Android/data/com.randomapp.blah", however, I would prefer to just store to a custom folder.
Anyways, thanks for this. I have been looking for a youtube-dl gui for Android for a while. :good:

I am able to store to the external SD card if I create an app folder like "/storage/SD_CARD_FOLDER/Android/data/com.randomapp.blah", however, I would prefer to just store to a custom folder.

I was panning this feature but since the app hasn't become much popular, I'm not sure if I can afford to work on it.
BTW, you can download audio by selecting the m4a format in YouTube. Some other sites should work too, like SoundCloud.

OHMYGOD! You Sir royale1223, are a gentleman and a scholar! Thank you so much for making this. While there are so many youtube downloaders out there, youtube-dl is the best because of how many hundreds of sites it supports.
I would love to see this app developed further and would gladly donate for this purpose.
Some suggestions for the Avidd app:
1. Keep the last search stored in cache in case someone wants to download multiple formats (so it doesn't have to search for formats for each attempt). Even better, allow selection of multiple formats when downloading.
2. If I understand correctly, this app runs youtube-dl in the background and theoretically should support all the command line switches that youtube-dl supports. In that case, please also allow the option for advanced users to enter the command line code the way they would enter it on a computer. This way we can customize playlist downloads, automatic numbering, naming format etc.
3. One amazing feature in the youtube-dl program on PC is how it can automatically use ffmpeg to mix the best audio and best video files. I don't know if ffmpeg runs on android (or even if it is needed) but the ability to download bestaudio+bestvideo combination and automatically mixing it would be amazing.

You can stream any music available on youtube for free.
The app is completely free open source, features no IAP, no ads. Just download app, search your song, and stream!
At core it uses NewPipeExtractor to get streams from YouTube hence can play almost any YouTube stream.
Features an inbuilt search to search YouTube, an adjustable playing queue, custom playlists and more. No song is stored in device it's directly streamed from google server hence saving space.
It does not streams video and only fetches audio files thus eliminating heavy data usage of videos,
It's full featured music player so you can enjoy background playback with notification controls, and you don't need to keep screen on and focused like YouTube to listen to your music.
It does not track you, there is no tracking system at all, you don't even need Google APIs to use app.
It's a work in progress app, so use at your own risk.

Is it possible to reduce the size of the "top artist" and "artist" icons ? The resolution of the pics are so small that the viewing is ugly.

It's surely possible, and resolution can be improved too, I'm planning to reduce top artist icons size and increasing artists icons resolution, will publish an update soon,
that cut in artist name is not something i encountered earlier thanks for letting me know, I'll fix it soon

App Updated, Artist tab should now display 3 artist per row, and artist name distortion should be fixed,
Resolution is not yet changed, will change it in next version.

tested your app yesterday. Works very well. Love it for live performances only available on youtube.
I'm just missing an option to share the content to to a wifi speaker. That would make the app awesome.
If I click on settings nothing happens. Is this a bug or are there no settings right now?

Hi, thank you for testing it out,
Sharing content to a WiFi speaker isn't something I'd thought of, I'll look if I can implement it.
And yeah, there r no settings currently. The app is work in progress. There r some features which aren't implemented yet, like settings and shuffle.
You'll see them working soon

I installed the app and should say that it's really awesome. The most interesting thing about it is that it doesn't stream the video and saves the internet.

That's not something planned, but if importing youtube playlist is concerned, I can add an import feature which will require you to download your playlist as xml using http://youtube.com/subscription_manager?action_takeout=1 link, and import it in the app,
I'll implement it in coming versions

And one feature request - adding someone else's already-created playlists.
I already see that you can add an URL of a playlist. For some reason, the app crashes right after adding it. And the playlist contains no songs at all after restart.

You can already do that, go to playlists and instead of add click import button, paste playlist URL and it'll import
