It should be sim unlocked out of the box. Have you stuck a sim in the phone and tried to add Telus APNs?
The only root exploit available for the VRUDNE1 4.4.2 OTA is to use Towelroot. There is no bootloader unlock available for this OTA which means there is no chance for AOSP nor downgrading the firmware to anything prior to 4.4.2. Safestrap is available but you would only be able to dual boot another VRUDNE1 based rom, nothing else.

Of course it didn't, the sim card would belong to the previous owners phone number etc. You need a sim from your carrier with your info, phone number etc. See my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=58582227
Hello XDA,
If I unlocked the bootloader of a G920V, would it effectively become a G920F?
Would it then be able to be rooted, and be able to flash other software?
Thanks.

There is no way to be able to unlock the bootloader. If you did it would not change the model number. If you are still on Software version OE2 you can root and then flash my ROM or the other few in the forums. But you will not flash ROMS from other carriers.
So even if I unlock from the carrier, and am on BOG5 for the G920V, I am not able to root my phone or flash other ROMs/softwares?

Unlocking from your carrier is not the same as unlocking the bootloader.
If you have the Verizon version of the phone then you will not be unlocking the bootloader anytime soon. Unlocking the phone to use on another carrier may be possible but the bootloader will remain locked.
If rooting or customising is more your thing you may consider buying out the phone from Verizon and simply buying a new one with the new carrier.
Correct after I moved the phone off their network and it was soley owned by me, I spent hours on the phone with multiple Verizon employees. I explained I wanted my bootloader unlocked and they refused to do so. Most of the employees had no idea what I was talking about. The one that did know what I was talking about spent nearly an hour searching for someone who would do it for me only to be told due to policy they do not unlock bootloaders. Most of them exclaimed they cannot because they did not lock it Samsung did, which I knew was a lie because Verizon updates the bootloader. I even went as far as going into the FCC rules. They gave 0.
Thanks for trying !
You bought the phone with the bootloader locked. Verizon and Samsung have no legal obligation to unlock it for you. FCC won't do anything.

Root has been achieved on a lot of phones with locked bootloaders, but what does that have to do with this thread? The S6 had root, when it was on the OE2 build, with a locked bootloader.

This. Whether or not the bootloader has been unlocked does not mean you do or do not have root. Samsung phones are all testament to that.
Hi Friends,
Recently I have bought HTC U12 Plus but unfortunately I have bought a carrier locked phone I didn't realized it while purchasing but I'm really annoyed right now I can't run any other network in this phone I have bought contract phone and some one told me that I can't unlock my contract phone by visiting service center and by doing research I saw there are lots of unlocking service provider I have contacted with one unlocking service provider and they told me they will help me in unlocking my phone so should I trust them...
I'm really confused I'm not sure what to do now should I buy unlocking service or not? Is there any else method Like installing custom rom etc to get my phone unlocked? if yes then please let me I don't want to waste my money. I talked with safeunlockcode.com unlocking service provider but not sure if they are going to help me with it or not.
Is there any one who is experienced in this field or got his phone unlocked then please help me out.
Thanks in advance

Have you passed your 15 days or 30 days return? You can't flash custom rom to unlocked the phone. Have chat with customer support?

There is a temporary S-Off solution I think. You could make changes and use a RUU. Not sure if a RUU exists yet.

hello all
we sale a system , to control the system we are using android phones with our custom app installed.
till now we used the Samsung galaxy.
now we are looking for a phone that we can root and change rom's as we wish, with Samsung it become too difficult this days .
is there any manufacturer that sale his products open for software change without the need to hack it ?
will it be true to say HTC devices are fit to this mission ?

If you like Samsung devices and want an unlocked bootloader, buy an international model of whatever Samsung device you choose and buy it directly from Samsung, do not buy it from a carrier. International devices have unlocked bootloader or at least can be unlocked.

Unlocking bootloader doesn't necessarily have anything to do with being carrier free or not.

When buying a device from Amazon, Swappa, Ebay and the like, when the device is listed as "unlocked", it means it is carrier/SIM unlocked to be used on other networks.
As for whether the bootloader is unlockable to flash TWRP or not, that may depend on the exact model number, whether or not the bootloader can even be unlocked at all may depend on the carrier that the device originally came from.

see my unlocked Motorola x pure edition I was able to get the token from Motorola website except that the phone will never be under warranty again. unlock the bootloader install TWRP etc etc.
and was able to use it on most carriers USA.

Ok, what does that have to do with the difference between the meanings of the terms "unlocked(SIM)" and "unlocked(bootloader)"?
What are you asking?

I do not know, but, as I already told you, that will depend on the specific model number of the device and which carrier the device originally came from. You need to do some researche using the device's model number to determine whether or not it can be unlocked and rooted. If you are looking for someone to do the work for you and spoonfeed you the answers that you are looking for, you are in the wrong place.
