It should be sim unlocked out of the box. Have you stuck a sim in the phone and tried to add Telus APNs?
The only root exploit available for the VRUDNE1 4.4.2 OTA is to use Towelroot. There is no bootloader unlock available for this OTA which means there is no chance for AOSP nor downgrading the firmware to anything prior to 4.4.2. Safestrap is available but you would only be able to dual boot another VRUDNE1 based rom, nothing else.

Of course it didn't, the sim card would belong to the previous owners phone number etc. You need a sim from your carrier with your info, phone number etc. See my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=58582227

If it's an unlocked GSM phone, it will work with any GSM carrier. I don't know if your phone is carrier locked or not, though. Also, custom roms don't control which carrier you can use.

You don't need root or ANYTHING to unlock your phone.
1) get SIM that is not the network the phone was originally on
2) buy unlock code from local dealer or trusted ebay seller. You have to give them your IMEI I believe
3) put that SIM in and when prompted, enter unlock code. Phone is now unlocked for any SIM card for eternity

is it possible to downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.4.1?

Hey guys i got a galaxy s5 from sprint, there's a domestic unlock on ebay, but it requires the phone to be on 4.4.1, i was wondering if there was a way to downgrade to 4.4.1 so i can unlock it?
thanks
I wouldn't trust a domestic unlock from eBay. If it were possible, it'd be here if anywhere... But all you'd need to do is install the stock tar. I'm not sure where it'd be, I like the newest version possible
Here's 4.4.2 I don't think there is/was a 4.4.1 for the gs5

I dont think there was either. Mine came Out of the Box 4.4.2 then updated to 4.4.4 then 5.0 now
April is Autism Awareness Month. Sent from my Sprint Galaxy S5
Were you able to domestic unlock your Sprint S5? Please advise me. Thanks.

SIM Unlock
If you have your phone paid off and/or have had service for a few months, you should be able to get the unlock code and instructions from TMo. They provided me with the aforementioned info without any pushback. Just call their support number or hop on chat and they will help you out. Also it's free

Remove simlock

Hi xda, it's been a while since I've been here and looking around has me scratching my head a little.
Anyway I have just purchased a galaxy s6 from eBay foolishly thinking it would be easy to remove the simlock but after a little reading I'm beginning to think I may have made a mistake. I'm not sure what network the phone is locked to as I have not yet received it and the listing states in the title O2 but the description says Vodafone, all I know is the model begins G920F. I thought maybe rooting and flashing a stock firmware would remove the simlock but after reading it looks like this is not the case. I then read also about "tripping knox" which sounds like something I don't want to be doing.
Root is probably something I will be looking to do in the future but not essential right now but I would be very grateful if somebody could tell me the best way to go about putting my virgin sim in this phone.
Please help
Thanks Peter.
I thought the 920F is the facotry unlocked international version so any sim would work.
When are you receiving this? Where are you trying to make this work.

Most European providers don't simlock, so you will most likely just have a provider rom, they are easy to replace with a generic stock rom
He is sending the phone out first class tomorrow so I'll report back after I have received it. I'll be using it in the UK, hopefully I'll get lucky and just be able to use it as soon as I get it. Thanks for the replies people.
Try buying an unlock code from one of the many reputable online unlockers.

Unfortunately I can't. I think the true owner of the phone is required for unlocking it. I need different ways to unlock it. Can I just install another samsung s8+ firmware to this phone?

No. There's no firmware or ROM that will SIM unlock it.
You'll need to have the original owner unlock the phone for you OR purchase the phone already unlocked - no software can unlock it for you.
Docomo and Softbank are extremely strict when it comes to unlocking a phone, you need to have an account with them for a few months, pay off the phone, and you'll be able to unlock the phone. If you don't then having it unlocked *remotely* is out of the question unless you sent it to someone who can unlock it for you.
Sorry to revive the thread after so long.
I have similar situation. I have a NTT Docomo s8+. I have unlocked it as well, it now works with my ATT sim in USA.
problem is the annoying Docomo apps in Japanese.
I am not able to rid of it completely.
Can I flash a US-Unlocked stock ROM or any custom ROM ?
pls let me know how.
Pls note my phone is Snapdragon based, (unfortunately most ROMs are for Exynos version).
