OnePlus 7Pro battery capacity wrong - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I was testing some wakelocks and I have realized that my 7pro has wrong, or I think so, battery capacity information...
First I saw it in Cpu-z.. which is know to have wrong readings.. it says 2915mah(it is not current capacity)
Then I got curious and checked in
Sys/class/power_supply/battery/charge_full
There my capacity is 3177000 or 3177mah...
Respectively battery is not lasting as it should... I had a feeling that 1/3 is missing..
So my question/request is
How to change that parameter, I have no programing experience.. I have tried through adb shell but it always reverts, even with permissions.
If someone can help ... I would be more than grateful.

Anyone?

mine says 3794

That is where the capacity is reported, not set. You can't program out battery decay, lol. How long have you had the phone? Is it a carrier device?

Well I know, but on some earlier models s7e for example there was a xml that you could modify..
It is sim free device 6 months old... There is no acctual way for battery with normal.usage and charge cycles... which I did... to degrade so much...

Mine is reporting 2342 I've had the phone less than 8 months I think... And I barely get above 1 day standby/4hrs SOT now.

Well yeah that is why u think somehow it is getting wrong information... I can change Roms now because of work... But I did flash Smurf kernel... And tried "battery Calibration," there must be the way for rom to recognize battery capacity.. I mean to input it... How to change it I don't know.. I have tried numerous ours of Googling.. but still blind shoots... I know what should be done.. but not how.. that is why I am asking for help.

Try battery current info

Here is it with that one, but I think it only does the simple math... Reading design capacity, and calculating according to the bat %...

Also there is this...
HW info with root

adb shell dumpsys batterystats > batterystats.txt with cmd.
or on the device with terminal: su ,grant root than: dumpsys batterystats, Although it will be harder to read
Search for "Capacity"

There is nothing to do other than submit a return ticket for a battery replacement the battery is degraded exactly what I'll be doing with mine as it's showing just a little over 2000mah that's unheard of degradation in under a years worth of usage something is off with these batteries.

Well that would be nice if I could... This degradation is equal to 2 years or more of havy usage.... Thanks... I thought it is maybe missread info I am pretty pissed since I changed my brand new s10+ for this phone with my friend who bought it...
Thanks everyone.. if someone has an idea let me know

Unfortunately it's $60 including postage to the UK so I've not bought. If anyone takes the plunge please report back!
EDIT: If anyone knows of a reliable capacity tester please post.
Cheers
AFAIK this is the only real battery delivering more power in standard size, I'm also thinking of buying it, it's not cheap but there's a lot cheap solution here promising more mAh and delivering less in real
I got this one:

If you run the battery app from the HTC debug tools, does it really appear as 1000mAh there?
Thanx for pointing me to a good tool. Unfortunately HTC debug tool reports
FULL (mAH) - 900. Also notices that main battery ID field is 0.0

I don't think the software reports the correct mAh size of the battery, I tried it with my 2000mAh battery and it still reports it as 900mAh, so I don't think it can be trusted. And don't say that my battery has a fake label too, it lasts me 4-6 days...

hmm interesting, we need to find a reliable battery tester
I wonder if anyone got anything else other than 900 mAh when testing any Diamond battery, maybe someone with a 1340mAh battery might want to give it a try? I have four batteries, I will give them all a try, 1 is the original 900mAh, 2 is a 1000mAh, 3 is a 1800mAh and 4 is a 2000mAh battery. I'll try them all, see if any of them displays a different result.
Edit: tested all 4 batteries, with the same result: 900mAh!!! Which is simply impossible.

Hmmm that's interesting... do you have by any chance a multimeter to measure the current of the battery in the old school way?
Any news on this? Mine is performing horribly. Thanks for all the studying!

A word of caution here, you can not measure the capacity of the battery by plugging it directly to the multimeter, that would cause a short circuit and probably damage it. You need to have some device in between the circuit that puts a constant load on it over time. Is not trivial I'm afraid... anyway a simple search in Google (ie. "how to measure mAh") should provide more detailed instructions.

Anker battery 'ageing'. What does it mean?

I am using the Anker 1900mAh battery for last 3 weeks and I am satisfied with the battery life it provides. I did 4-5 charge-discharge cycles and now I regularly get 24hrs - 27hrs life out of it. Today I noticed that BMW Pro is showing battery '14% aging'! What does this mean? Is my battery dying? To confirm I installed the HTC battery widget and it shows nothing abnormal. Please check the screenshots. Is something wrong with my battery?
More than 100 views. Nobody?
My aging says 0%, on stock battery... 5 month old.
I gave up using BMW after getting my sensation, the battery driver by HTC is useless and the statistics the driver gives to BMW can't be trusted.
If you're that concerned then charge to 100%, delete your your battery stats and history and hence start again - but I don't think anything has changed for you, it still guesses your battery as around 1900.

Absolutly right about BMW and Sensation. BMW Useless and confusing only. Don't worry about ageing - continue to use as before.
My phone is not rooted. So I cant delete battery stats. And I get excellent battery life. But the 'aging' thing was worrying me. But after reading your comments not so much worried now. What does 'aging' mean anyway? i.e. in the context of the battery.
Over time and use batteries age... They lose their capacity.... Aging 10% Means that the battery has 10% less capacity than it had when it was new....

There's nothing wrong with the app, it worked perfectly on my HD2, it's just the battery driver that's the issue for the sensation.

I know that is Senasation's driver reporting not correct discharge current, only correct charge current. I meant BMW is useless with Sensation.
And i guess it is not problem of HTC's driver but hardware chipset used in sensation and evo 3d - driver can't read proper values from measurment circuit of chipset. If i would be driver itself, HTC could fix it easely.
---------- Post added at 08:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:38 AM ----------
Don't expect from Anker same quantity of charge-discharge cycles as original battery. It may not work as long as original one(cycles i mean). Nothing can be done with it and nothing can help. They are cheap, so just buy new one when capacity will badly decrease.
Now BMW is showing aging to be 0%. How and why it showed 14% previously I dont know! The battery is hardly 3 weeks old. It cant begin to age so soon, can it? Maybe the earlier value was some wrong reporting. There seems to be a definite problem with the phone's battery driver.
As countless people told you by now - those stats don't mean ****. Stop relying on them. It's useless, confusing information with absolutely no value.

^ What he said. If the developer set the app to say it's 99% aged while your battery still lasted about 25 hours or so.. would you believe that? I'm banking on the assumption that you're not a complete moron and WOULDNT believe that. This is almost the same thing, accrding to all the other users, the app and the battery drivers don't work well together. As everyone else has stated, stop using it? There really is only one way to test your battery properly, and that is to use it. If one day you only got like 15 hours out of your normal 27.. then you know there's a problem. screw the bmw app

Thats what I am going to do!
You may see what are aged battery here :http://78michel.unblog.fr/htc-desire-battery-shutdown-analysis/ and here :http://78michel.unblog.fr/?p=164
The SoC curve ( state of charge) shows a step during the charging cycle before reaching 100% and a shutdown while discharging. This is very typical.
The aging is in fact the amplitude of the step.....
A precise battery analysis requires a full charging cycle from 0% to 100% with a AC charger.
Your battery is clearly not aged at all..... don't worry

How am I being rude? You should change the tone of how you read it. I didn't call you the moron, I was assuming you weren't and trying to give some kind of crappy analogy to make sense of it lol
Folks, wiping battery stats is to no use. It only contains the data of what have used the battery since last charge. When you unplug your phone from the charger, the stats are reset. You can't extend or damage the battery life by deleting/altering the battery stats file.

[answered] should i claim warranty, because of lower battery capacity?

Hello,
I got my OP6 about a month ago and installed a app wich shows how much capacity the battery really has. Surprisingly it has 9% less than promised, wich means i miss 300 mah. Is it worth to claim warranty because of this? I mean in real scanarios its about 1.5 hrs i miss daily because of this.

Likely wrong reading from app, tried a few system info apps,aida64 and devcheck show accurate battery stats for me anyway
I don't fully believe the app, personally. My pixel 2 xl was 109% for the longest time and my op6 goes between 87% and 91% every few days

Yes you are right
No OEM, not only OP ,will accept values from an app. In the end you'll have to pull out your battery and look on the sticker for the values. And then you still have to believe these because I see no chance on how you can measure the real capacity (without spending a lot of money).

Replacing Battery and Camera of S7 Edge

I just replaced mine after 3 years of usage with 823 recharge cycles on original battery and %63 health. Camera was scratched after lens on it broken so replaced it too.
Here is the video of the process.

P.S. had to manually reset battery charge cycle after. Now getting over 40 hours with Oreo, just flashed pie rom, I'll see its performance this week.
You make it look so easy.

yes, you need rooted device.
with root explorer you should edit /sys/class/power_supply/battery/battery_cycle and write 0 as a value.
after reboot you'll have 0 cycles.
p.s. you may need to copy file to your internal storage, edit there and overwrite the current one. permissions must be 0644.

Replaced the battery and now its temperature is stuck on 25C°

i recently replaced my battery. there was a MI logo on it and written BM37 but i don't think it is original. Its not the same as the one that came out of the phone. Battery life is good though. The problem is, ever since the phone temperature seems broken. CPU temp and other stuff is pretty normal but battery temp is stuck on 25(sometimes 24). I have never seen it above this level even though i m sure it did rise. I tried global beta, eu rom and currently using stable miui10. I wonder if it affects the thermal processes of the phone or cause any damage due to overheating since it always says 25C°. And also wonder if it's totally about the new battery or something can be done with software. thanks.
Also also, could you tell me which of the values in the 'thermal' section of CPU z can i consider as device's temp instead?(for some reason i m unable to upload any ss for now, but will do)
just don't screw the bottom screw back to your phone so you have quick removal if sth goes wrong...
all chinese replacement battery got no temp sensors, they only placed 10K ohm resistor in the sensor's place, therefore stuck temp reading...
Mine also like dat but the battery's life is wonderful, brands: Life Future...
Never get the one that looks like original, coz it will never be original battery... actually its worse than my currently broken battery... so I get Life Future (I specifically mention this brand coz I have used their battery & its great)...
My replacement battery stuck at -25, and wont charge because of that, i pay it 25 euros and wont buy another one... Is anyone find solution to bypass battery thermal sensor to actualy chare the phone?
