Daydream VR in V50 - LG V50 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Has anyone figured out how to get daydream to run properly on a Verizon v50? It seems so dumb that Google does not support this, given how powerful the phone is and what a nice screen it has. I found instructions for how to override it if you have root, but of course we do not have root with Verizon.

Google Wallet on Verizon S3

I've just spent the past couple of hours trying most of the available apks for Google Wallet. I did manage to get the 1.1r67-v12 version installed and running, however when I go to activate it tells me my hardware is not supported. Supposedly this was a known issue for G3 users on other carriers and Google released a fix for Sprint users. I have yet to find this update available in the form of an APK.
If anybody has access to a Sprint S3, could you please get me the APK?
For those interested, Google for a download link to the 1.1r67-v12 and using root explorer, copy it to both system/app and data/app and then reboot. Make sure the perms are correct (google it, rw--r--r or something similar.
My next steps are to try the build.prop trick in combination with the above apk.
If anybody else has any progress on this, please post below.
Thanks

Wait where did you get this idea? Wasn't NFC one of the key features of the Galaxy s 3? it would seem pretty silly for them to take it out. Then again they locked the boot loader =/

The Verizon page for the GS3 has S-Beam as listed. It wouldn't be listed if it didn't have NFC.
Verizon probably won't allow Google Wallet because they have a competing product, called ISIS. Bummer.
**Warning....wild speculation follows....
From what I can tell there is something missing (might be a bug) in the current version of our OS that isn't letting Google Wallet recognize the NFC device. Sprint had the same issue and apparently there was an update released OTA that fixed the issue for most everybody. If we could somehow get ahold of the before and after image and figure out exactly what was changed, we should be able to emulate they fix on the Verizon phone and get Google Wallet working.
I'm going to keep banging away at it, but there are plenty here way more experienced than I.....so here's hoping somebody else is looking at this.
ok...so the Market Enabler trick doesn't work either.
Obviously Google Wallet recognizes our NFC chip as if I turn it off Wallet will complain that it is off until I turn it on.
I've pulled down the two OTA's that Sprint has pushed out. One of which is supposed to fix the issue on Spring S3's.
Anybody know if its possible to extract the files within the updated boot.img files and apply them somehow post boot since we can't modify the current boot.img on the phone?
If anybody is a dev or knows a dev and they wouldn't mind taking a look at this thread, please let me know.

I fully agree.....however I'm sure there are plenty of people out there with the skills required to do this who aren't working on the boot loader problem.
If I knew more than I do now i'd be working on the bootloader problem myself...however my current lack of skills would only serve to impede progress so instead I'm trying to work on stuff wanted by many others.
+1 on this issue.
I just talked to Verizon who said it was Samsung's fault and I talked to Samsung who said it was Verizon's fault, regarding Google wallet not working. So sick of the nonsense.
Christ our backwoods local little country food store has NFC payments. I'm so sick of this crap this should have been our phone and working. I will not be using any Verizon payment systems, screw them.

Its definetly verizons fault. It works on all other carriers yet only verizons phone has the most problems and also their public support behind ISIS only adds fuel to the fire. I wish Verizon listened to their customers for once and stopped trying to control everything.

On a stock, rooted/modified or a cyanogenmod rom?
How did you get it to work. one of the only reason's why I miss my galaxy nexus
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083
Do I have to be on a rom or can I be stock rooted??
I am on stock rooted on Verizon. Followed the method in that thread a few days ago and google wallet activated and gave me my 10 bucks no problem. Plus, I used $9 bucks under my account on my gnex and still got a new $10.

[solved] how to tell which anti-rollback version I have?

Hi all!
So I've been tempted to downgrade to MM to try out the dirtysanta ADB root. I heard there are some issues with internal and external storage, but I figured I'd at least give it a shot.
To get the anti-rollback version, I tried calling the number everyone has been throwing around (*#546368#*987#) but it doesn't seem to work (I have VS987 BTW). Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Yeah, I hope they did too. I've been wanting a solution to this for some time.
The fact that this code doesn't work should indicate to you that it isn't version 0. I have the same phone, but it's junk. Bootloader is encrypted with 256bit or similar, meaning it's impossible to modify without the key. Verizon will never unlock it because then you wouldn't have to go through them for hotspot. Trash the phone and get one that actually has root. Sorry.

Sounds like something that should go under its own topic. I don't think trouble connecting to the mobile network has to do with the anti-rollback version.

Google call screening

Just got the Galaxy s10+ on Verizon which is pretty nice but I'm missing the Google call screening feature. I had it on my OG pixel Xl and Verizons call screening just isn't the same. Anyone know if we could get that to work on our phones or does that require the whole unlock and root method and modify everything?

How to root the G970U?

What's the best guide to root the G970U? I'm finding guides for the Exynos variant but not so much for this one. Have even read that it can't be rooted or it isn't supported so far :crying:
As far as I know, the Snapdragon variant is not rootable. From what I understand, there is no way to unlock the bootloader. Samsung has this one completely locked down.

I see. Thanks for replying. I wasn't keen on coming back to Samsung but the form factor of this phone is almost irresistible to me. However, seeing as how development is almost nonexistent I think I'm gonna pass on this phone.

I would not recommend it. The form factor and specs are all great, although the battery is a bit on the small side. It has automated power savings features, except you can't control those easily with Tasker (you can with Bixby, but most of its profile triggers are pretty limited). And the power savings features appear to mute Google navigation when the screen shuts off.
But after being on custom roms since basically the beginning, One UI has been a gigantic pain to learn where all the settings are (and getting around not being rooted to do things I like/need). I could go on and on.
I put off upgrading for years for a smaller phone with decent specs. This was about the only option for me. I'd definitely recommend the Exynos version, but that's a no-go if you're in the US.
Too bad. I was just thinking about upgrading from my XZ1 Compact and this phone otherwise seems perfect:
1. NORMAL size
2. Fingerprint sensor on the side
3. SD card
4. 3.5mm plug
I can't root Samsung Galaxy S10e Snapdragon.
I already unlocked oem lock, kg lock.
But I can't find the right twrp for beyond0q. (no lte)
The office twrp is only beyond0qlte. It is no usable.
I flash TWRP_G9700_3.3.1-9.tar success.
but I don't know why I install magisk failed.

Actually, G9700 (snapdraon) variant of s10e is unlockable, but it is ture that few custom roms are available...
I would like to root just so I can have control over my phone, but I guess those Android days are over here in the US. ?
And it's sad because this phone is almost perfect. Having the fingerprint reader on the back and giving it a normal power button would make it so. Every company out there is a churning out overpriced phablets with a load of junk we don't need nor care for.
I also currently use a Sony, an X Compact. It's getting rather long in the tooth, but still works well. I have gone ahead and ordered a Snapdragon s10e, as there is really no other current phone in that size category. Hopefully between Nova Launcher, Tasker and Automate I'll be able to set it up to my liking. To be honest, I'm most concerned about the unusual placement of the hardware buttons: try to adjust volume without activating the fp sensor, etc. But I imagine I can get used to handling it differently. @andTab

I have a terrible problem hitting the Bixby and Volume keys when I try to press the power button. I had to use a re-mapping function to disable single & long press on Bixby.
Maybe I'll start a thread. I've managed to figure out almost everything I like to do, finally, with Tasker. A few things I need AutoInput for (which is far from ideal, unless it's a task you can do late at night when you aren't using your phone).
The single task I couldn't do satisfactorily was custom charging limits to try to save battery since I charge my phone overnight. That can only be done with root! Although this could maybe be accomplished by toggling the USB connection from charging to file transfer. But obviously that's not an option with wireless charging.

This answer is kinda condescending and not helpful. I get it's a pain to explain the birds and bees all the time, but it's even more of a pain to browse hundreds of non-answers on XDA to find info.
@wseverin he's basically saying that the G970U/1 doesn't have an OEM switch in developer settings because it's not *factory unlockable*. Generally, only the EU, by forcing telecoms and Samsung through legislation, have phones with unlockable bootloaders.
Truth is, there IS a way to root the US version of the 10e. You can find various threads on XDA of people referring to Telegram channels where they'll charge you money to remotely root your phone.
They do this through either various hardware/software dongle bundles, or ENG firmware. The S7 / G930U was rooted with an ENG firmware flash - at the expense of battery life.
In this thread they talk specifically about using ENG firmware to unlock the bootloader of the G970U: https://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f1...sm-g975-sm-g973-sm-g970-2570127/#post13639840
For US devices the only solution is by flashing an eng-boot + script if it exists for your particular device/version.

Whether or not that would work, I don't know. I've ordered a couple of S10e to test on. But I'm surprise that there hasn't been more work done to explore this solution on XDA. There used to be big bounties here to get root and bootloaders unlocked.

Thanks for these infos which haven't been shared on XDA yet.
IMO those with the knowledge to root the G970U think that they can make more profit by selling the rooting service for 100 or 200 $ per phone than to collect the bounty (although I think that they are wrong with this.)
I'm quite annoyed by the posts on XDA which advertise the paid rooting service (like "contact me per PM to get further infos"), although I can't really care as an Exynos user.

Lol i know how you feel but dont because trust me if youre a root fan you arent gonna enjoy it tbh i sold mine like a few weeks after i got it and im just planning to get an Iphone and use it for the forseable future until i change my mind. If you love root dont buy the S or Note devices buy the j or A but if you dont like those i know because they are low end devices sometimes especially for a gamer..... so intead probably get a poco phone one of the newer ones with a snapdragon 860 or a xiaomi with flagship tier performance etc because i know xiaomi and google pixels there bootloaders can be opened and the warranty isnt voided permanently.... meaning once you unroot you get back warranty atleast thats what im sure ive noted.

Man i messed up! I bought a note 20 ultra from the us.

Im coming from a oneplus 6t and i used to have a s8+ and i always root my phones, install custom recoveries and roms, but im just now reading my phone cant be bootloader unlocked?? What type of **** is this? On every android ive had oem unlocking option. And its too late to return is because its literally coming in a few hours. But this news killed my mood for it. How can i survive without root? Im getting a note 20 ultra unlocked snapdragon variant from the us. Will there be anyway to unlock it the bootloader on this device once i get it?

99% sure we wont be able to bootloader unlock. We wont have the option out of the box so someone would have to find an exploit and its extremely difficult to do.
What exactly do you want root for? Most things we used to need root for have non root options that may be sufficient for what you want.
I'm on a OnePlus 7 Pro right now and I'm rooted. The only thing that I could not do unrooted though is a couple of xPosed modules that arent really that big of a deal.
Edit: Also when you root, you break support for 4k and HDR in apps like Netflix in case that is important to you.

I have rooted every phone I've had until the S8+, I really don't see the purpose anymore. You can use Substratum Lite along with Synergy to theme your phone. Also Adaway has a non root version now too.
My main reason to root is to use phenotype patcher to allow more apps in android auto and to be able to use Fermata player with video. Additionally using swift backup and swift installer. Very convenient. There are unrooted ways to somewhat do what these apps do, but with more hassle.

It feels like we're at a point where if you want to root, you just shouldn't get a flagship device.
I actually haven't had an issue recently without root since most features that used to be 'missing' are now stock or easily available via 3rd party apps. Even package disablers and button mappers still work without root, the new "admin" system seems to work fine for those who know how to code for it.

Well Yes apparently from what this article says:
https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra-root-us-unlocked-snapdragon-865/
I was going to buy the Note 20 Ultra Exynos to be able to have call recording by changing the CSC to thailand ... but if I can have the snapdragon would be much better... Can anyone that has used that share their experience with this service? I would pay $150 to have the call recording. Even if don't want the LIMITATIONS of rooting but would prefer to have the better Battery life of the snapdragon... This seems like the only way to get call recording on a snapdragon phone... Can someone help with more info on this?
i am ready to trade my note20 ultra exynos for your snapdragon variant
btw, im from germany
Meh, that's the preferred variant less the locked bootloader. I probably keep it.
Get a package blocker for it and be happy...
